All the cakes are prebaked and packaged, but one can come in to have it decorated with custom lettering while you wait. While we waited, we also ordered two other things that we all love from here: their shanghai style egg rolls (25 pieces for $21) and their miki bihon pancit (medium, enough to feed a family, for $21). We've tried a lot of different version from different places all over, and have come to the conclusion that we like the version at Gemmae's, the best (as long as for my wife, they skip adding patis to the pancit). They also have a turo turo steam table here. The yellow curry chicken caught my eye, so got a small container of that. We also grabbed a frozen pack of Shanghai, fried it up at home, and wow, it was so good. I highly recommend picking up a pack if you visit! I love that this shop offers both savory food and sweets, so definitely come hungry. The service was quick and friendly, and the interior made me feel like I was transported straight to the Philippines. Pro tip: stop by around 1 pm-3 pm for a great experience.

Their bread and pastries are always good quality and very nostalgic. Even though I'm not a Filipino, the flavor of their goodies are very similar to where I'm from. I think I might have tried (almost) all stuff they have in store. Some of my favorites are bibingkas (never go wrong with this), any weekend special donuts (ube or cream "cheese" filled donuts), ube cheez pandesal and cakes. I also like their pop tarts but they usually get sold out pretty fast. Their staff are always nice and personable. Check their instagram for any special items or any other updates (such as if they're sold out fast, or if there's any discount or if there's a long line). I'd suggest to eat their bread items on the day of. The other non-bread stuff are still good even after a few days. Typically weekends are busier, especially due to their weekend specials that are hard to miss!

When it was my turn to order , they were already out of Spanish bread. I was left with the bibingka , and coconut , black sesame and pandas swisher buns. Overall they're just MEH!! I don't understand what's the hype about? The goodies were al dry and not fluffy. I have had better baked goods that were home made and more flavorful. I don't think I will be back. Other Filipino bakeries are way better and home made stuff are even better. TRUST.

In my heart, I initially wanted to gate-keep this spot but I truly want everyone to experience this gem, hidden in the Zaferia neighborhood of good ole Long Beach! If Manuela (in Hauser + Wirth DTLA) had a baby, Union would be its down-to earth first born. Excited to try some of the art classes and wellness offerings also located in the Compound and check out new exhibits over the coming months.

San Honoré Panderia at Island Pacific Supermarket…read more This is a review for San Honoré Panderia which is a bakery specializing in Filipino desserts located in Island Pacific Supermarket. My favorite items are their BIBINGKA and TAHO. Bibingka is a thick coconut rice cake with a cream cheese center. Their bibingka is baked and flavored to perfection! It has the right amount of sweetness and texture when you bite into it! So delicious! I typically eat it warm and pair it with my morning coffee. Taho is a sweet dessert made from soft tofu, brown sugar, and sago (tapioca pearls). You can have it warm or cold. Very simple and tasty. The bakery also has other options for desserts and serve fresh pandesal (sweet bread) daily. If you have a craving for Filipino dessert I highly recommend San Honoré Panderia!

This second visit, we also stocked up on a bunch of mangoes and ube ingredients, planning to make something different next time. The store itself is small but well-stocked. There's even a small deli inside. I noticed quite a few products and canned goods here that I've never seen at Vietnamese supermarkets like SF. The seafood and meat section seems to be one of their main strengths because it takes up a large area and everything looked pretty fresh. For dry goods and pantry items, prices are worth comparing with other Asian markets. Some Asian instant noodles and rice I saw were slightly more expensive than H Mart. Overall, even though the store isn't big, it carries most of the essential items you'd be looking for. Island Pacific Supermarket and Seafood 3300 Atlantic Ave, Long Beach, CA 90807

Solid choice for turo-turo food in Long Beach, Edna's Filipino Cuisine serves up a large variety of…read moreFilipino dishes, 7 days a week during lunch hours (10:00 - 15:00). My wife, her mom, and I stopped in for lunch and we really enjoyed it. My wife and I had stopped into Edna's a long time ago when we first moved to Long Beach, so it was time for a refresher. My wife and her mom shop at the nearby Tambuli for Asian groceries, so knew the parking wouldn't be too difficult in this part of town. The steam tables were jam packed with food, freshly prepared that morning, and there were some things I had not tried before. Thus, was nice to come with other folks. It took me a while to decide. The first steam table had 9 entrees: - Mom wanted Pinakbet which she later stated was good. - large strips of Lechon were chopped for you when ordered, and was a good addition to share. - other dishes included Kambing (available everyday), Pinapaitan, and Kaldereta (made with goat so we skipped it). The second steam table had 10 entrees: - Adobong Pusit - baby squid with adobo and squid ink sauce. I've come to realize that most Filipino restaurants don't have the time to remove the innards (guts and cartilage, which I've found to be inedible) while keeping the ink sacs, as they cook it. So I did it manually while eating, making this a finger food dish (very messy). Went great with the white rice, though. Mom made a good point that some folks consider it edible, similar to the shell of shrimps. - also chose the sinigang with pompano, since bangus was only available deep fried. Every entree with come with a cup of the soup, but if ordered as a choice, will come with a choice of fish piece (head, middle, or tail). The soup was good, very sour (which is how I like it) and not oily. -- final choice was Chicharon Bulaklak, deep fried pork intestines using the fatty mesentery tissues, to produce a flowery looking finger food. It came in a paper bag. It was the first time I tried it, and I liked it, though too greasy to have more than one piece. -- other choices were deep fried bangus, deep fried smelt, boiled peanuts, and a decent selection of sweet rice flour desserts. The ladies manning the steam tables were very friendly, and were receptive when I asked for a sample of the fried smelt dish. Servings were generous, and often came in separate soup containers to make eating easier. There is a large dining room with simple seating, and self bussing. It's a tried-and-true set-up that works well at other point-point places (so many in the area). Ended up getting two 2-combo plates ($14 each), served with white rice. Added 1/3 pound of Lechon Kawali for $6.48, which we all shared. In general the food was good, in large quantities, and presented with pride. Canned refrigerated sodas are only $1, so got cans of Sprite, Sunkist, and Squirt (maybe my favorite mass produced soda of all time).

Did not like their rice there at all, so I ended up mixing it in with the ulam. The texture was just not good. The chicharon bulaklak didn't look old, but it didn't taste fresh.
