Since I've been seeing all my fellow Yelpers posting this establishment let's give it a try . A solids 5 stars my favorite of course was their fried chicken it still tastes the same as Maple Garden . We also ordered their fried fish with sauce on the side that was a close 2nd . Shrimp Canton was ok along with their beef chow fun . Their seafood cake noodle was probably the least favorite although I ordered cake noodle separate from the seafood sauce it just lacked taste or something. Parking entrance is along Liona St. behind the restaurant very small parking luckily when I got there I missed their dinner rush . Cars were starting to come in while I was leaving. Service was very friendly and fast while I got there they were just putting the sauces in the box . Support local and I'll be coming back in the near future. read more

Recently discovered Chopstix so went to see if was any good as I find it harder to locate any good Chinese restaurants as they are all disappearing these days ... So when I got there at 500pm ..(they reopened at 430pm) Not much parking in the back and it was almost full except for one space and it's very tight .. I was so surprised to learn that it was the former Maple Garden owner that now runs this place .. I think his name is Richard .. very nice guy and a very hard worker. I loved the food at Maple garden Pre-Covid ... when Covid hit .. things began to change. Anyways so I picked up my order of Minute Chicken Cake Noodle and their well known Honey spareribs... I looked around and it's not a real big area and there was a big family already dining and also couple of tables occupied. It could get crowded real fast . Luckily I had take out orders so I waited a little while for my order as I only saw Richard working . (I know it's hard to find good workers ) When I got home .... I opened it and found that they made a mistake and gave me crispy noodles instead of cake noodles . It was still good but I was looking forward to cake noodles .. Honey spareribs was delicious but I wanted more .. If I plan to eat there next time ... best to go before 500pm for the parking otherwise need to look for street parking . But I'm glad I can still find Maple Garden food at Chopstix ! read more

After seeing the cool Yelp kids (Jo Y., Nadine C., Li Y., Donna O., Angel H. and Irene M.) and post reviews and food pics, I had bookmarked this place and suggested to celebrate my BIL's birthday here. We saved the date and waited 3 weeks to finally dine here. Near the corner of Keeaumoku and S King Street, Chopstix is one of Oahu's newest Chinese restaurant that opened its doors for business in May 2025. For those who are familiar with Maple Garden, you'll probably notice the hospitable Richard, who I immediately recognized and he was going back and forth from kitchen to tables delivering food, glasses of water and tea pots. I had made reservations prior for my family of 7 and requested the round table as I like to order an array of dishes and to have everyone eat conveniently without passing dishes up and down the table as you experience with a long table. I had perused the menu prior to arrival and had in mind what to get. I asked my family for suggestions and came up with 8 dishes. Hot & Sour Soup (4/5) Classic hot and sour soup with generous ingredients used (bamboo shoots, soft tofu, ear fungus, and pork) in a tasty broth that could have used more spice. Solid dish to start our meal. Steamed European Sea Bass (5/5) Informed by Richard as we sat down, family was game so I got one. It was steamed until perfection and served with green onions, ginger and soy sauce. Richard removed the head and main bone with such precision and professionalism. We were impressed with this dish. Highly recommended. Salt & Pepper Pork Chops (5/5) Another family favorite and staple item with Cantonese cuisine. Freshly made, seasoned well and tender. Beef Chow Funn, dry style (3.5/5) Dish was impressive with a nice wok hei aroma but flavors didn't deliver. Needs more seasoning and charring from the wok. Fried Chicken Wings (5/5) Another family favorite and memorable dish from Maple Garden memories. Plump, served hot and crispy. Glad we did a double order. Honey Spare Ribs (2/5) Dish looked promising in photos but not enjoyed by family. Pork ribs were refried and wasn't heated thoroughly and had an aftertaste. House Cake Noodles (2/5) Visually disappointing and flavors were not impressive. Slightly larger than bay shrimp and extremely small diced chicken with lethargic Chinese greens were used on a bed of crispy noodles, not cake noodles. Blessing I only had one order of this. Sweet & Sour Fish Fillet (5/5) Per request the sauce was served separately. Family approved but the portion was small. Crispy fish fillets complimented the tangy sauce with assorted vegetables and pineapple chunks. Service was above average. Richard provided stellar service and followed up on us. Interior decor was confusing with Chinese and Japanese theme(?). Was nice to see many people walk in and chat with Richard from his previous ties. Overall, mixed results on our first visit to Chopstix where we walked out confused. We all agreed that this is a one and done dine in experience for us but I see myself ordering a party tray of the fried chicken wings to take to a party. It was that good. read more

Got my chopsticks ready... For this new place on Ke'eaumoku that many are taking about and I do love Chinese Cuisine especially when they have parking which is in the back is very limited but knowing that it's there is appreciated. Walking in it's a cute cozy spot though is quite small made it work with various sized tables and there is a one guy doing it all which they said is from another biz that had closed is nice to know that he still has the passion to start another biz so that we're able to enjoy it all with the new generations. I just wanted a take out and as I glanced at the menu noticed to simple it is and assumed since they're still new to make it more smoother process for everyone decided on the Mini Chicken with Cake Noodle and was happy to see that they made the gravy separated with the dish so that it doesn't spill was impressive but when I got home was surprised to see that it was crispy not cake noodle and that the chicken was cut in very small and tiny pieces though was nice and flavorful wished the kept the veggies with the chicken instead of the gravy as it was overcooked. There was no chili or hot mustard I didn't even have chopsticks the guy was rushing as guests started to pour in even sitting on a table that was reserved without a sign. I'm aware that they are very new but not sure if they have enough staff to handle it all and hope that they do find more so that this cute spot will work with us all. Thank you! read more

We were excited to hear that the former owner of Maple Garden had opened a new restaurant, Chopstix, on Keeaumoku. On our way home on a Sunday afternoon, we picked up a couple of dishes to-go to test it out. We ordered four dishes: fried rice, Mongolian beef, steamed fish fillet, and green beans with minced pork. The Mongolian Beef packed a serious kick of spice -- much spicier than expected! If you enjoy heat, you'll appreciate this one. Our favorites were the fried rice, steamed fish fillet, and green beans with minced pork. Each dish was well-seasoned and flavorful. Our four dishes came to about $70, which felt a bit steep for takeout. Then again, that's becoming the reality for dining out these days. Overall, our first experience with Chopstix was a positive one. The real test, however, will be when my mom gives it a try. She's always been the toughest Chinese food critic, so I'm looking forward to hearing her verdict. read more

Lunch in Honolulu, Hawaii... We saw that this new Chinese restaurant - Chopstix - opened up on Keeaumoku Street and found out that it's run by Richard, the guy from Maple Garden! We parked in the free parking lot behind of Chopstix. There are about eight stalls. The entrance is in Liona Street. The cozy interior has been totally renovated with some Asian-style umbrellas and a big screen television for a modern fusion type of ambiance. Service by Richard was outstanding. He's charming, efficient, and attentive with a great sense of humor! We ordered: 1. Beef chow funn - okay. Wish that the bean sprouts were sautéed. 2. Lettuce wraps with chicken, water chestnut, and black fungus filling - surprisingly good! 3. Honey walnut shrimp - the walnuts could be crunchier, but the shrimp were great! 4. Fried chicken wings - excellent! Light, crisp batter. Sweet sour sauce elevated the flavor! We look forward to returning! read more

Seeing a Chinese restaurant reopen in the old Canton Seafood Restaurant spot, located at the corner of Keeaumoku and Liona St., was a pleasant sight, because I have no idea what kind of place it turned to before this new (or reintroduction?) of Chopstix. I just happened to read the description of the business on this page describing the owner was the former owner of Yen King/Maple Garden.... but it threw me off when it noted it specialized in "Szechuan Style" lol. Local/American Chinese feels more accurate - Egg Foo Young? Chinaman's Hat? CAKE noodle?? Free parking in the back. Inside is about the same as before with the vaulted ceiling allowing natural light to come in. It's a bit smaller than before with not too many tables. Clean and comfortable. The menu is more simple and straightforward with not too many choices compared to other places. Prices are on-par with most places. Started with the Beef Chow Funn. It was all right. Weird uneven cooking. Some onions and bean sprouts had a nice scotch and cooked through to almost translucent while others were still white and near raw. The beef was on the dry and tough side. Taste was acceptable, but it just lacked the punch in flavor, the fragrance, and wok heat. Chinese broccoli with garlic was very good. Tasty and garlicky sauce. Nicely cooked broccoli. Overall, a decent meal. Good food. Good service. Nice, chill atmosphere. I'll come back to try other items. This place is still relatively new and probably need more time to acclimate to the new environment. read more

A brand new Chinese eatery has opened on Keeaumoku across the street from Midtown Eats. It's from the same guy, Richard, from the old Maple Garden. Richard speaks Cantonese, so you know the food is authentic Chinese. We parked in the back of the building where there's a small lot. We got the fried chicken wings $16.95, honey walnut shrimp $18.95, beef chow fun $15.95 and chicken lettuce wraps $13.95. Everything was very good. The fried chicken wings were my fave. The batter was light and crispy. It was juicy on the inside. The beef chow fun had great wok hei. The shrimp in the honey walnut shrimp was fresh and plump. It had just the right amount of mayonnaise. They were skimpy on the shrimp though. I'm looking forward to returning and trying some other items on the menu. read more

Richard Lam started working for Yen King Restaurant at Kahala Mall when it opened in 1975 as a Sichuan-style Chinese restaurant. As he worked up the ranks from dishwasher to cook to manager for more than 20 years, the original owner, Robert Hsu suddenly died in 2007. Hsu's wife had no interest in continuing the restaurant, as she tried to find someone to continue the restaurant as is. There was also a management decision to close Yen King to make way for the new Whole Foods. As its new owner, Richard Lam purchased the business in 2008 and renamed it Maple Garden Restaurant and moved it to McCully, offering the same type of cuisine. As with all other restaurants, the COVID pandemic set limitations as to high financial requirements for public health and safety. Many restaurants eventually closed after they could not recover what they lost, including Maple Garden. It's May 2025, and Richard Lam is still here! His Maple Garden concept is still here, but under a new restaurant name of Chopstix on Keeaumoku St. A start-up menu includes: * Daily plates. Chicken, beef, pork veggies, shrimp with rice or chow mein. * Appetizers. Green onion pancake, spring rolls, gau gee, pot stickers, chicken salad, lettuce wraps, sesame balls. * Soups. Hot sour soup, corn, won ton, egg drop, dry scallop. * Beef. Broccoli, Mongolian, tomato, black pepper. * Pork. Salt & pepper, ma po tofu, eggplant, honey spareribs, mu shu, spareribs. * Chicken. Orange, kung pao, wings, cashew, duck. * Seafood. Shrimp, clams, oyster, sweet sour, salt & pepper. * Veggies. Eggplant, tofu, egg fu young. * Noodles/Rice. Beef chow fun, e-mein, Singapore mai fun, cake noodle, chow mein. We were so excited to hear of Chopstix, as we loved the old "Maple Garden" cuisine that we enjoyed in previous years and couldn't wait to bring our memories back! Having opened in just a month, we ordered the following on our first visit: * Honey Walnut Shrimp. Large prawns with an egg-white batter and sauteed in a mayonnaise sauce that made the shrimps delicious, crisp, and light served with sweet walnuts. Excellent dish! * House Cake Noodle. Was a little disappointed with this dish, as it was certainly not cake noodles. It was sauteed Hong Kong noodles turned soft with toppings of choy sum, carrots, shrimps, and chicken bits. Wished the chicken bits were cooked as minute chicken to give it some color and crispyness. This noodle dish could be improved to give it more texture and flavor, like having it as crispy noodles instead. When asked if Richard was cooking in the kitchen, we were told that he was not there, but a former chef was cooking in the kitchen. Hope there are recipe reminders for the cooks to follow in reproducing their popular dishes. Working out the opening kinks will bring back what they were known for. Giving the restaurant the benefit of the doubt, as bring back the dishes that they're known for. The lone staff member brought out water glasses, hot tea, took orders and served the dishes to two tables of customers that were dining. She noted that she was a staff member at the former Maple Garden Restaurant. She was efficient, quick, smiling, and friendly. No signage yet, but the staff member noted that there is a 3 per cent credit card surcharge. The cozy restaurant was clean and bright. It has four booths, two round tables of 8 seats each, and at least two 2-seater tables. Interesting décor of colorful umbrellas, a Route 66 logo signage, green planters, and a single maneki neko as you enter. I'm sure much will be added later. Hours of operation are Tues to Sun 10:30a to 4:30p lunch and 3:00p to 9:00p dinner. Private parking of about 10 spaces dedicated to the building. We look forward to having some of this restaurant's popular dishes of the past, e.g., hot sour soup, honey-glazed spare ribs, fried chicken wings, and more. Nice to see Richard from the former Maple garden still is in the restaurant business and reopened under the name of Chopstix closer to Ala Moana /Keeaumoku area. They do have a small parking lot with about 9-10 parking stalls and is in a former location of many previous businesses. Hope they do well on Keeaumoku and Liona streets. Liona St is one street away from King St. When placing the order near the end of lunch, it was better since they were not as busy since the crowd left and the last ones were just leaving as my coworker and I picked up lunch from here. I spoke to Richard when I placed my order and the same sweet lady from the former Maple Garden, helped me when I picked up my order. We paid in cash since they were a credit card service fee on credit card. What a surprise, she said remembered me from ordering from Maple Garden. Right now I heard Richard helps with the front and he has a young cook that was with him from Maple Garden. I guess the retired part time chefs are not there anymore. I'm always craving for minute chicken cake noodles but got crispy noodles. It's okay although it was a little over cooked and too crunchy. The dish was okay to me but not the best, although my friend liked her Singapore Mei fun. It was not too spicy but it had good taste per my coworker. I look forward to try other dishes from their single two-sided menu. I did love the fried chicken from Maple Garden and I'm glad it still look the same here. I'll try that next time! Heard the women bathroom was big and good for handicap customers. The restaurant isn't as big but has some tables inside and a private room that wasn't set up yet. It can be a karaoke room. The lady said that this location was good and they are busy, since there are a lot customers from the near by businesses who order from them and many Maple Garden loyal customers have been coming. The restaurant is closed on Mondays and open for business from Tuesday thru Sunday from 10:30 am to 9:00 pm, but close after lunch at 3pm and re-open for dinner at 4:30 pm. Home of the former Canton Seafood Restaurant. Cute little space with two circular tables and four smaller. Even tho the address is on Keeamoku, the entrance to both the restaurant and free parking lot is on Liona St. Where ten- eleven parking spaces are dedicated for restaurant only. Today joined a few of my galfriends for a nice lunch. They were wanting crispy noodles so were recommended to the house special cake noodle. I was craving vegetables so an order of spicy eggplant went on the table. New restaurant with slightly limited menu. Still what they do, they do nicely. Menu and food is Cantonese cuisine. The owner/chef has opened this restaurant after closing the beloved Maple Garden on Isenberg Street. Wishing Richard well in this new venture. Hope they introduce some Northern cuisine into the menu (actually, I did see scallion pancakes). Will return to sample more deliciousness! I've been seeing this place pop up on Social Media and I just had to try it! The owner was very nice and friendly ! Service was nice and attentive ! I ordered the Minute Chicken Cake Noodle and Mongolian beef lunch plate! Quick tip, upgrade white rice to fried rice! Both dishes were SO ONO!!! So glad we tried this new restaurant. Finally a really good restaurant serving authentic Chinese food! Interior is cozy and comfortable with several booths and tables. We had the Sizzling Rice Soup, Minute Chicken Cake Noodle (Crispy Noodle) and Salt & Pepper Pork Chop. We loved everything, but the best dish was their Salt & Pepper Pork Chop. It is a very nice new Chinese restaurant. It has about a dozen or so parking stalls on the side. The interior is clean and simple but tasteful decorated. The food is excellent, with good portions; we especially enjoyed the sizzling rice soup, so delicious and unique. I remember having it at the now closed Maple Garden, which was owned by the same gentleman. The service was very friendly and attentive. We were here about a month ago during the soft opening. We ordered a lot of food including minute chicken cake noodle, green beans, fried rice, chow fun, salt and pepper pork, hot pepper chicken and honey spareribs. It was a lot of food but it was so tasty we ate almost all of it! It was fresh, fast, well priced and delicious. My favorites were the salt & pepper pork and the honey spareribs.
