    Popcorn Chicken ($11)
    Rachel L.

Such vibrant dishes with flavors reminiscent of a mix of indian & chinese food. My favorites were the imperial tofu, popcorn chicken, singaporean laksa and the passionfruit jasmine tea. The imperial tofu was in the expensive side because it comes with abalone, but the flavor of the dish was savory & delicious. The tofu was so silky too. The popcorn chicken and singaporean laksa were packed with flavor and spice which I loved, and the housemade passionfruit jasmine tea was strong and refreshing. There wasn't necessarily any "bad" dishes, but I personally was underwhelmed by the popular smashed fried chicken. It was lacking a lot of flavor and a bit dry. Char Kway Teow & Licious Fried Rice tasted very similar & smoky. Family owned spot with such a supportive son helping out! The food came out pretty fast even though we ordered a ton. Staff was super friendly. Place is pretty spacious. There is a station for free sauce/toppings, as well as a free chicken broth dispenser.

Came here on a weekday night. The whole area was very quiet. We ordered the roti, char kway teow, nasi lemak, kangkung belacan. We really liked the roti and nasi lemak. Some of the char kway teow was a bit too burnt and kangkung belacan was way too greasy and salty (they should go lighter on their shrimp paste). The food was freshly made with decent ingredients, which I always appreciate. The staff were very friendly and gave us red packets containing chocolate for lunar new year. Price was very reasonable. Overall I'd return to this place if I'm ever in the vicinity again.

If you're craving Malaysian cuisine, this family-owned restaurant is a fantastic place to visit. Located in the same shopping center as Lee's Supermarket. It brings back memories of my frequent visits to their former restaurant in San Mateo, known as Langkawi, many years ago. Although the restaurant isn't very large, it offers ample seating and boasts a clean and decent interior. The establishment is run by two brothers: one handles the cooking, while the other manages the front and customer service. The dining experience is reminiscent of a food court or hawker center, where you order and pay first. The menu features a wide variety of authentic Malaysian dishes, making it difficult for me to choose what to order. We decided on Char Kway Teow, Asam Laksa, Ayam Penyet, Prawn Mee, and Kangkung Belacan (morning glory with shrimp paste). Almost everything is self-serve, except for the food serving. They offer complimentary chicken soup, which is self-serve and perfect for cold weather. Additionally, they provide a variety of sauces for you to help yourself. For me, the highlight dish was the Char Kway Teow, closely followed by the delicious Kangkung Belacan. I was expecting the Ayam Penyet to be similar to the smashed chicken we get in Indonesia where the chicken is smashed with mortar and chili paste on the bottom, but it was still enjoyable. As for the Asam Laksa, it was my least favorite, not because of the dish itself, but because I don't particularly like sour flavors.

Chicken Licious appears to be a family-run restaurant focused on malaysian/singaporean cuisine. We came here for lunch on a weekend, and the restaurant filled up fairly quickly. For the Bay Area, Chicken Licious is quite authentic for what you can get. The quality of food was good, we ordered chili crab, laksa, asam curry and char kway teow. Although the price is not cheap, the portions are large. The flavour profile is mostly consistent to the roots, except the singaporean laska which was unusually overly sweet. The chili crab is on the pricier side, and i wouldnt say it's worth the 85$. Char Kway Toew is a classic, and its in this dish that Chicken Licious truly shines, its flavour matching what you could find in Kuala Lumpur. Overall, this restaurant is a place i would return to if i ever find myself near the neighbourhood during meal time. Expect to spend around 30$ per person for the average meal.

Chicken Licious is located super close to my work but didn't get to try it until now. Before they only offered chicken bentos, so I wasn't really drawn in but their menu expanded! It's located in the same shopping center as Lee's Supermarket. Parking can be very limited and extremely tight..combined with terrible drivers during busier hours. We went on a Sunday for lunch around 12:15pm and the restaurant was half full. I ordered with the cashier and she provided me with a number. It's open seating. Water, plastic utensils, sauces and complimentary chicken soup are self serve. The chicken soup was good, slightly sweet and a nice starter / palate cleanser in between dishes. We ordered.. ROTI CANAI (2) $11 -hot, flaky and crispy. Came with a curry dipping sauce which tasted kinda herbally to me. When it cooled down, it was kinda dry and got hard. 3/5* CRISPY PRAWN AND TARO ROLL (6)$12 -mini net style eggrolls filled with prawn and taro on a bed of fried noodles with a side of sweet chili sauce. Solid, nothing special but satisfies your eggroll / fried cravings. 4/5* SCRAMBLED EGG CHOW FUN $19 -pan fried flat wide rice noodles covered with gravy made with egg, soy sauce, oyster sauce and seafood broth. It came with bok choy, fried tofu and shell-on shrimp, which was super fresh. Delish! 5/5* CHAR KWAY TEOW $19 -wide rice noodles, shell-on shrimp, egg, bean sprouts, garlic and chinese sausage. The shrimp was super fresh. The dish had a nice char taste, but slightly light on flavor. It came with a side of their chili sauce which had a fermented shrimp taste. 4/5* By the time we left, the restaurant was packed. Service was friendly, they checked up on the tables and bus them when you're done. Would come again!

I had seen this place on my Instagram and bookmarked it previously; luckily this past weekend we were in the are and decided to give it a try. First of all, after purchasing something from them they offer you a chicken soup, which you can go to the sauce bar and customize it as you like. I ended up putting the ginger scallion sauce for hianese chicken and some sesame seed oil and it was delicious. When the food came out it was super hot temperature wise and we'd soon realize how spicy it actually was. The Singaporean laksa was quite flavorful and decent in portion size, the meat was a chicken leg which they'd broken in half and had good coconut and umami flavor 4/5 Next we tried the Penang Laksa, again very flavorful and you could taste the tamirand and see a good amount of fish pieces. We loved the sour and saltiness of the broth, which the owner proceeded to tell us it was his childhood breakfast. I thought it was delicious, but my fiance was crying and panting because of how spicy the dish was for her and she can tolerate medium spice, but loved the flavor in this dish as well. I want to say it's a step above medium if that's any inclination for anyone reading this, but I enjoyed it. 4.5/5* Lastly, we had the popcorn chicken, unfortunately this wasn't my favorite, the breading wasn't crunchy like we thought it'd be and the batter was a bit soft. Not sure quite sure why they threw a hand full of fried breading, not chicken pieces, in our tray with the popcorn chicken. 2/5* I'd also like to add their Thai tea is pretty good! Strong tea flavor and very creamy. When we stop by thanh son tofu we'll be back again! Customer service: 5/5* Cleanliness: 5/5* Food: 4/5* My review is of the food and nothing else though.

3 Malaysians walked into Chickenlicious in San Jose, CA. They liked the asam laksa and curry puffs. They'll be back for those dishes. Asam laksa is from Penang and one in our party is from there. She said it was authentic and delicious. They also said the Singaporean laksa, smashed chicken and hainanese chicken rice wasn't authentic enough in their opinion. They could not recommend those dishes. The smashed chicken could use more flavor, and it was not really smashed. The parents even told this to the owner who was still nice and friendly. Family run business. They clean the tables, they cook, etc. Lots of tables for you to spread out and eat at. They opened around 2022.

The Bay Area FINALLY has a decent Malaysian/Singaporean spot! After trying so many different places and being disappointed, I finally have tried a place that tastes like home. The start here has to be their Hainanese chicken. Its cooked the right way, where the meat is fully cooked but just barely so - ensuring that tender mouth feel but still bouncy skin. We also got the other classics including: nasi lemak, curry laksa, roti canai, and the char kway teow. The nasi lemak even had the ikan bilis (anchovies) and tasted quite authentic. They got the spice blend right in all their curries! The only weak dish here was the char kway teow - it could definitely use more "wok hei" or Maillard browning on the noodles. Highly recommend if you're a fan of Malaysian or Singaporean cuisine!

We decided to take a drive to San Jose for the day. Stopped to grab a bite to eat at Chicken Licious for some Malaysian food. You can order through the kiosk, scan a QR code or by cashier. It's a no frills, fast food type of restaurant. People working here are friendly and helpful. ***OUR PICKS*** NASI LEMAK ~ Malaysian coconut milk rice, served with rendang chicken, sambal, fried crispy anchovies, hard-boiled egg, toasted peanuts, and cucumber. We found the rice texture was hard and it had tons of lemongrass. The chicken was hacked up, so shards of bones were in the sauce. You couldn't tell if you were eating lemongrass fiber or small fragments of chicken bones, which made it difficult to eat. If they had kept the chicken in bigger pieces, it would have been easier to eat and less troublesome. Lots of flavor, generous portions, and you get a variety of things in this dish. 3.5/5 HAINAN CHICKEN ~ Traditional steamed boneless thigh meat with skin, over chicken-flavored rice, garnished with nyonya acar (pickled). Served with homemade fresh dipping chili, ginger, garlic and soy sauce. I enjoyed the soft, tender, melt-in-your-mouth chicken. Very authentic in the way they prepared the chicken. Like the Nasi Lemak, the rice was hard. If the rice was softer, it would have been a 5-star dish! 4/5 SAUTEED GARLIC KANGKUNG BELACAN ~ Kangkung belacan is a popular Malaysian vegetable dish made with water spinach (kangkung), stir-fried with fermented shrimp paste (belacan), garlic, and chilies. It is often served as a side dish with steamed rice. This dish wasn't spicy, but flavorful from the shrimp paste and it was a good, healthy side dish. 4/5 They give you a cup for complimentary chicken herbal soup, which was very nice and comforting! So good when it's cold outside! I enjoyed their food and would come back again for the Hainan chicken or try something new on their menu, if we were in the area. I've been to Malaysia 4x and I found the food here is pretty authentic.

A great Asian go to! We had the Char Kway Teow and Singapore Curry Laksa and it totally satisfied our south east Asia cravings! The noodles on the CKT could have been a little more thin, like in Penang, but the flavor was spot on! The curry laksa is a bit spicy... (not for me, but maybe for others) and can be ordered with deboned chicken. It's a small venue but perfect for lunch and the staff were super friendly and very helpful in selecting what to order. Take out is also a great option if you can't dine in, just be sure to take some with you!

We saw high ratings for this family owned restaurant and we had to check it out for ourselves. There were so many things on the menu that we wanted to try. We ordered the Curry Puffs, Hainan Chicken, Laksa, and the Longan Soymilk Pudding. Our food came out in a timely manner. The Curry Puffs were crispy on the outside and fillings were tasty. The Hainan Chicken was one of the best we ever had. The chicken was very tender and juicy, which we really liked. The Laksa was very flavorful and the chicken was tender. The Longan Soymilk Pudding was light and it wasn't too sweet. The waiter ( Owner) stopped by couple times to check up on us. We chatted with him briefly. He was friendly and kind. They serve authentic Malaysian food for reasonable prices and they were generous with the portions. We'll be back to try their Longan Wintermelon Tea, Bak Kut Teh, and Char Kway Teow.

This restaurant is located in a lively Asian plaza with lots of different shops and eateries, plus a dedicated parking lot -- definitely a convenient spot to explore. Walking in can feel a bit overwhelming. You order at the counter, and the menu is huge -- almost too many options to choose from! Thankfully there are plenty of pictures to help guide your decision. Once you order, you get a number, find a seat, and wait for your food to be brought out. Water, utensils, and even chicken herbal soup are self-serve. I came here for the first time after hearing a ton of rave reviews, but I walked away a bit disappointed. The food itself was good, but noticeably on the salty side. I was also surprised by the inconsistency in service. The owner or manager seemed very attentive to certain tables they knew, but ignored others -- including ours. It took multiple attempts to flag someone down for basic things like questions, take-out boxes, and even the check. The restaurant isn't very large and seems adequately staffed, so the lack of attention felt unnecessary. Another thing to note -- there's only one bathroom. If someone's using it, prepare to wait. I visited with friends who come here often, and even they mentioned the food quality varies from day to day. For example, on the day we went, the food was very salty and the crab seemed like it was defrosted vs fresh, with the meat just crumbling apart rather than holding shape. On a good day, I can see why regulars keep coming back. But based on this experience, I'm not sure it fully lived up to the hype. I might give it another try down the line, hoping to catch it on one of its better days.

Ask the Community - Chicken Licious

Is the Hainan Chicken any good?

The chicken is good, the flavor is different than what you get in Singapore.

    Is this halal?

Esther C.'s review of July 26, 2025, mentions pork lard. If correct, that would say to me that the restaurant is not halal.

YUM! Must Be Thai was great and lived up to the ratings and reviews. I must have been feeling…read moreadventurous as I took both my picky child/teen and my picky Asian parents at the same time. Well the risk paid off as all my picky family members enjoyed EVERY dish. Admittedly I am pretty shocked. We ordered: Crispy Fried Calamari: deep fried, chunky tender pieces of calamari that was perfectly portioned for our smaller group Tom Yum Fried Rice: fragrantly fried with a good lemongrass flavor Hat Yai Fried Chicken: light crisp outside and oh so tender and not dry on the inside. Southern Pad Thai: ok Must Be Thai. You get us. This is the first place to live up to my family's level of spice. There is a reason it is marked "SS" on the menu representing "Seriously Spicy". Kiddo and I loved it. NSFCP (Not Safe for Canto Parents) however lol. Overall, we really loved the variety of the regional Thai dishes, flavors, and textures. Can't wait to go back. Hoag Me:

The panaeng curry was flavorful and heavy. It looked small but made me full quite fast. I had to take leftovers. The pork itself was okay it was a bit overcooked :o The thai tea was alright i've had better and it was a bit warm. The vegetable pad thai was perfect. Noodles were chewy and very saucy. I would definitely come back to get this and add a bit more spice as well.

I always come here whenever i am craving meat jajangmyeon and it never disappoints! I also order…read morethe tangsuyuk and stir fried noodles and it's so good and filling. I have put all my friends on this place and they love it every time i mention coming here. The meat jajangmyeon and the stir fried noodles is so flavorful and the tangsuyuk is so crunchy! For the price and the portion is heavenly sent too, so perfect. The only unfortunate thing is the parking lot outside is pretty small and limited, so keep that in mind. Sometimes i park across the street from the other plaza since the parking lot is bigger. Tungtungtungsahur rates 5/5

FOOD: 4 SERVICE: 4…read moreAMBIANCE: 3 VALUE: 4 We were looking for something different for lunch and we came across Paik's. A no thrills Korean restaurant specializing in their black bean sauce rice/noodles. We ordered: Fried Dumplings - minced pork and vegetables dumplings deep fried to perfection. Crunchy, meaty and just need a dousing of vinegar. Jajang Rice - rice covered in shrimp egg omelette with the black bean jajang sauce on the side. The omelette was done right, not dry, but the black bean jajang sauce was really what made the dish. Beef Jjamppong - noodle soup with beef slices and mixed vegetables. Comforting bowel of needles with thinly sliced beef and cabbage. Jajangmyeon - their signature noodles with black bean sauce. Very umami and the noodles were done just right. Cheap (for nowadays) and good food, what else can you ask for?
