My family dropped by since we had seen there was a Singapore national day pop up. We queued to order via kiosk and then had to wait ~50 mins for our food. Perhaps it's because of the rush of orders and addition of items I assume are not usually on their menu, things were a bit chaotic. Multiple people ordered multiple dishes and the kitchen was getting some orders confused (eg calling out an order # multiple times even though that customer had been served already). I will only review the 3 dishes my family got. Perhaps the Nasi Padang combos are better here (I see this is most commonly reviewed and popular), but sadly, they had already ran out of the Ikan Masak Lemak thirty mins after opening. Nyonya Laksa (2/5) @ $18 -- The soup was too watery and there wasn't enough of a coconut taste to it. The chili helped a little once mixed in, but there was still something missing from the soup. Mee Rebus (3/5) @ $18 -- The sauce was flavorful and slightly sweet. However, the sauce was poured on top of the tempura shrimp so I had soggy tempura. A little nit: I had to stir the noodles to make sure all noodles were coated. Hainan Chicken Rice @ $17 -- I didn't try much of this but the rice was fragrant as expected and had that chicken essence taste. Ah, the ginger scallion sauce also tasted sour like it had gone bad. Also ordered a milk tea (strong and standard) and a milo (which came in a can, I thought this would be made in house but I was wrong). This store is a stall inside a larger food court, so seating is limited. There is a public bathroom. Service was nice -- they asked if we were eating there and served us. All plates/cutlery is disposable so it's easy to pack up if you don't finish there. read more

Tried the Nasi Lemak and it really hit the spot. The rice was fragrant, the sambal had a nice balance of sweet and spicy, and the anchovies with peanuts added great crunch. The chicken was tender and flavorful, and the egg + cucumbers balanced everything out. Solid portion and very satisfying and would come back! It is not at the San Pedro Square market, rather it is 0.5 miles away. I got the Nasi Lemak and the Laksa. It is one of the only halal Malaysian restaurants I know so I recommend this place. read more

I'm liking it so far. Inside the food hall building, you will find a delicious and authentic tiny spot, MYSelera Bistro. Not fancy here, but great for casual comfort foods and small eats. It's general southeast Asian Malaysian style. Order at kiosk and pick up at the counter. You can choose from small chicken snacks, noodles, rice plates, etc. Simple menu. Not a long menu. General market prices. Food portions aren't huge either, but delicious and satisfying for a quick stop inside. Staffs are honest and good people. I had the $18 Penang Char Koay Teo and it had good spicy prawns in it. Tasted authentic and looks authentic. It didn't take long to get ready. I wish the portions were much bigger though. Curry and naan or chicken wings also look tempting. You can always go with the rice plate options or chicken drumstick meal. Good. This tiny place is worth checking out for simple foods. read more

The best Malaysian food in San Jose. You can't get more real than this unless you buy a plane ticket and fly there. One taste of their Nasi Ulam and I am back in my hometown of Penang. You can taste the care that goes into the preparation of the food. When you drink the laksa broth, you will know what I mean. The Chef/Owners Jai and Vicky Kandayah use authentic ingredients like fresh daun kadok for their otak-otak even though that's hard to source here. So far I've tried their Assam Laksa, Crab Laksa, Nasi Ulam, Seafood Yong Tau Foo, Otak-otak, Hainanese Chicken Chop with black pepper sauce, Char Koay Teow, Hokkien Mee, Popiah and Ayam Gepuk. All delicious! The Ayam Gepuk is super spicy if you like the heat. Not all the items are on their regular menu so you have to check their Facebook page to see what special dishes they feature on occasions like Malaysia's Independence Day or Singapore's National Day. I usually buy back to eat at home as the San Jose Downtown Food Hall where they are located inside, is pretty noisy. Other than that, this is THE place for epic Malaysian food in the Bay Area. Run here! Don't miss it. If only my wallet was as big as my stomach, I'd be here every week. read more

Heard about MySelera cos of their famous Curry Leaves Bistro location in Pleasanton. Nice to have the same great option in the South Bay. It's in a foodhall right downtown. Parking might seem a little tricky depending on the time but I found street meter parking right out front with no issue. The setting is casual and pretty nice, with other foodhall options also available (but I didn't try). A few large tables and also easy to grab and go. Love love love the nasi lemak with sambal! Really brings me home to Malaysian breakfast! Great flavors and large portions. Also love the many vegetarian-friendly options! I found this Malaysian restaurant from Yelp and thought to give it a try. It's located inside SJ downtown food hall. The owner/chef looked familiar because I've seen him before. He was the owner/chef of Curry Leaves Bistro in Pleasanton previously. That restaurant has closed and he moved here now. He told me to order directly from their kiosk machine next time since the general kiosk overcharged $2-$3 per items because it's owned by DoorDash. I wished I knew it before. I ordered chicken sambal nasi lemak with extra sambal bilis (anchovies) sauce and mamak mie goreng. Nasi lemak was good (8/10) and paid $16.95 (overcharged $3 by using front kiosk), $3 for extra sambal which the picture in the kiosk was deceiving. It came in a tiny little sauce container not as advertised and pictured. Paid $17.95 for stir fry mie goreng (4/10) - the noodles were too soggy and wet. It was not "goreng". Goreng means stir fry and should be dry. Not really impressed with the quality of the food. Well, I tried and for sure won't get the mie goreng again. read more

My wife says the nasi lemak spiced fried chicken is just as good as "back home". I don't know about that as I don't recall her being Malaysian. She did live in Singapore so that's close enough I suppose. Her opinion (I only had a taste): + Nasi lemak fried chicken is seasoned nicely with a light crisp. The sambal is a great dipping sauce for the chicken. It's served with coconut rice and side of fried anchovies. Only problem with meal is the missing half egg. (4 stars) + Nasi lemak chili chicken is boneless pieces of chicken covered in chili sauce. Rest is the same as above. (3.5 stars) - Restaurant is a kiosk in a food hall which can get a little dirty around the tables (2 stars) - Come to think of it the missing egg may be an add-on but the photo of the rice items make it look like it's part of the meal. Food is adequate and everything here is self served. Wifey says she'll be back. I don't mind tagging along but not sure if I'd come here on my own. read more

We were here for the Hawker fest on 9/14, which included special menu items not usually on MYSelera's daily menu. My family is from Petaling Jaya so we were very excited to see that there is a place for casual Malaysian eats in downtown SJ, as other makan spots in the bay tend to be very dinner formal. MYSelera reminded us of the casual food court vibes we grew up going to with our grandparents, specifically the food court at Midvalley mall and Amcorp. My partner recently went to Malaysia for the first time and fell in love with char kueh teow. He said the CKT offered at MYSelera brought him back. I agree that the flavor profile and wok hay is similar to what you would find in Malaysia, even comparative to those famous stalls in Penang. The portion was very generous. Between the two of us we shared a CKT, one Nasi Kerabu, one Mamak style fried chicken quarter, and one roti Canai, as well as a teh ais. Roti Canai is a staple for me, but in the US it's hard to find places that get the curry dipping sauce right. Dal is the only way to go for me, and this place nailed it. It was exactly like the one you can find at the morning wet market in PJ Old Town. I write this with gratitude and emotion as it reminds me of the good old days with my grandparents. The staff was so kind. We came in as a huge party of 7 with multiple orders and not a beat was skipped. Everything was perfection and came out piping hot. I am so happy to have MYSelera so easily accessible. I am so looking forward to the next hawker festival :) thank you so much. read more

I'm Indonesian so always looking for similar cuisines in the area. Was excited to try MYSelera. MYSelera is located in a food hall grouped with many other restaurants. Parking is typical downtown San Jose: street parking or structure nearby. When you enter (at least on a Saturday) you are greeted by... nothing? The food hall was practically empty: only one employee at a different restaurant. No music, TV showing the Google docs app behind it. The counter for MYSelera was empty. Wasn't even sure it was open. Walked up to the kiosk and ordered the mie goreng and belacan chicken wings, waited 20 minutes (surprisingly long for no other customers), took a bite and... The mie goreng tastes almost like pad thai - very peanut-forward, not like any mie goreng I've ever had in Malaysia. The belacan chicken wings were freshly fried and very crispy -- but no taste of belacan at all; you could have told me these were just unseasoned fried wings and I would agree. 5/10 - unfortunately my search for Indonesian cuisine continues. read more

As a Malaysian American, I am SO excited that some Malaysian goodness opened up right in Downtown San Jose. My parents and I visited their soft opening- when you walk in, make sure to order directly from the kiosk in the back! We were able to talk to the owners, who were very friendly and in known the Malaysian food scene in the Bay Area. We got the Nasi Lemak Fried Chicken, and the Malaysian style chasiu rice. We also tried three drink from their menu, ranging from Palm Sugar Milk drink, Grass Jelly Soymilk, and a Grass Jelly Longan. All were so good and aromatic! Eating in the DT Foodhall felt like eating in a Hawker Center, very lively, fighting for a place to sit :) will definitely be coming back tomorrow!! Place is owned by Jai (for those that remember Curry Leaves Bistro from Pleasanton). Most authentic Char Kueh Teow in the Bay Area. We had sweet rice dumplings which were tasty with the right savory flavors and slightly chewy yet had a deliciously tender texture. We also had the mee goreng and laksa soup. Both were flavorful and the hearty fish broth laksa was a great comfort food on a cool cloudy day. We found the location of mySelera very easy for parking, being close to the San Jose Courthouse and San Pedro Square. The Nasi Lemak here is legit. Probably the best I've had outside of Malaysia. Mamak spiced fried chicken was juicy and flavorful. The portion size was pretty good for the price as well. We also got an order of the boneless chicken with chicken rice, it was also pretty good but id stick to nasi lemak on future visits. Looking forward to the next trip to try the Chili chicken sambal! Only issue was they forgot the eggs on our Nasi Lemak and the water that was supposed to come with the chicken rice, probably need to check your bag while this place is still new. read more
