So glad to have Vietnamese halal food in the Bay Area! My Muslim friend was able to try pho for the very first time and he enjoyed it! I was able to learn more about Cham culture and the history behind the cuisine. It was super wholesome to be able to share a meal from my culture with my Muslim friends. The pho was comforting and flavorful. The Bun Bo Hue had a similar broth (no pork here ofc!) with a nice chili oil kick -- the vermicelli noodles were thinner than the traditional thicker ones. Apps: Paratha which was a great choice to kick things off. Eggrolls also a great option. Popcorn chicken and walnut shrimp next in rank and then wings. My absolute favorite was the crab fried rice! that smoky wok hei flavor really came through and made it stand out. Lamb fried also had similar flavor but the groups fav was crab. Overall, such a welcoming spot with friendly staff and a beautiful cultural experience behind it.

The service was super good and fast! The broth tasted AMAZING and suuuper flavorful! we got some extra chili to spice it up and it was amazing. The restaurant was really big and had a lot of room for big parties too!

We just went to Vietnam and learned about the Champa culture. Thus, the restaurant caught our eyes. It turned out pretty good, and we will be back to try other food. Here is the rating for the food: - rendang beef 5/5 - champa chicken 5/5 - partha - 4/5 - papaya salad 2/5 very fishy, too many tomatoes Service is just ok. About 10 tables and very clean

We've frequented Champa over the years at their previous location and are happy that they reopened. There is no other location of halal pho in the Bay Area. We were able to get there before the rush on a weekday evening but once we were seated the restaurant got pretty filled, with only a few open tables leftover. We like to order the spicy bun bo, beef banh mi, and roti, on a regular basis and like to try other dishes when we have more room. They offer a prayer section in the corner of the restaurant and the restaurant more of a casual setting. There is a parking lot but it does it filled and the spots are quite small.

I stopped in for a quick lunch and tried their... Spicy Beef Soup: deep rich soup with eye round beef served with vermicelli noodles (3.5/5). The soup came out piping hot! My own fault for not fully reading the description as it didn't have all the other proteins I am used to seeing in a spicy beef soup. It was flavorful.

Chili paste/Satay available as one of the condiments on the table.

This restaurant is Halal and HFSAA Certified!!!! I've been wanting to try this place out since the previous restaurant of this specific location closed down (They also had pho which I loved) and so glad that I finally came back and I can't wait to try their other dishes! From older reviews I read that Champa Kitchen originally was located in another part of San Jose and I'm so glad they found another spot because I would have never known about this yummy hole in the wall restaurant! ----LOCATION---- It's a small plaza with a parking lot. Shares the same plaza a Claw Shack, B Cafe (X Tea), other small businesses and a Martial Arts School. Parking is fairly easy since many of the businesses has different hours. In the evening there is martial art classes so a lot of parents wait in their cars which is nice because there is foot traffic and a lively parking lot which makes it feel safe. ---HOW TO ORDER/PAY---- There are plenty of tables and seats. You will be seated by a server and you order at your table from a server and the food and drinks are brought out to you. You pay at the register after you have finished eating and if you need to go containers, you can ask them at the register. ----BEEF PHO--- - This was hot (temperature wise) which is so perfect because I hate when places serve their soups lukewarm. - Noodles were perfectly cook, bouncy and a nice chew. - Generous portions of meats - Broth was flavorful and perfect. - It was served will veggies, lime etc. on the side (see my pic for reference) - I love adding all of the basil in my pho and sipping my meats on the side in satay (chili paste oil - located on the table side). ----MELONADE---- I was honestly surprised with this drink. I didn't even look at any pictures beforehand nor asked about it when I ordered it. All i saw was "Melon" and was like that sounds good! (I love melon drinks in general) When it came out, it was so pretty and had real cut up fruits and fresh mint! It was a little bit tarty with a perfect sweetness for me. It was refreshing and totally would get it again. ---SERVICE---- Service was excellent. I was welcome warmly into the restaurant and everyone is kind and attentive. ---RESTROOMS/INTERIOR--- Restaurant is clean and there is a restroom available for customers ----REASONS FOR MY 5 STARS---- Food and drinks were so good, service was warm and welcoming, clean establishment I WOULD HAVE ORDERED MORE BUT I DINED HERE SOLO THIS DAY... I'LL BE BACK FOR THE ROTI PARATHA AND THE CHAMPA RENDANG!!!! STAY TUNED.

Muslim Vietnamese, what a niche. I spoke with the owner who explained a bit of Champa history. They are an indigenous minority group of Indian culture. Later was defeated by the Vietnamese and also shifted to islamic religion. It was a great meal of traditional Vietnamese as well as Malaysian dishes. Spring roll with peanut sauce = pretty standard Roti Paratha Bread with curry sauce = it was good Bun Rieu crab soup = tomato based soup with crab and shrimp paste meatballs, i enjoyed it. Champa Rendang rice plate = coconut based beef curry has rich flavors, very good.

Came by for early dinner on a Wednesday evening. Since it was really early, we were the only people in the restaurant but we saw a few people pick up takeout orders. They are a Muslim establishment so all food is Halal certified. The restaurant is located in a small plaza with its own dedicated parking lot, although it's not very big and there are other stores located there. We got the popcorn chicken and the beef pho. The popcorn chicken was nicely fried and very crunchy with a good taste. The pho was good, and they gave the usual accompaniments with it. The staff were very friendly and talked to us a bit about their background. The restaurant is spacious and clean. Would recommend!

Came by on a Friday to try the food. It was 1/3 full. They have table service and they were responsive. Very casual family atmosphere with kids. Pho: 4 stars. Not like most pho places but enough. We ordered eye round rare beef on the side and they provided our food as ordered. The bun rieu: 3 stars. The tofu and crab/chicken ball was good since there was real crab but the broth was not flavorful and was spicy. I like to add the chili paste for flavor but I don't like having my bun rieu already spicy so I didn't care for this and prob would not order again. If we come back, would probably try a different dish.

    Shaking Beef "Bo Luc Lac"

Champa Kitchen is a beloved halal Vietnamese restaurant that recently reopened in the Berryessa neighborhood of San Jose. Although I'm not the biggest Vietnamese fan, I can confirm the food still holds up after the relocation. In terms of quality, I enjoyed the Shaking Beef "Bo Luc Lac" the most. I was also happy with the Fried Egg Noodle (with chicken), Champa Lamb, & Champa Rendang. I was surprised to see an Indonesian dish, but the restaurant takes inspiration across Southeast Asian. My friends enjoyed the pho & noodle soups. Despite quality being overall high, quantity (and thus value) is a bit mixed. Sometimes the portions tend to be on the small side, especially the rice plates which may not even fill up one person. However, the soups provide more bang for buck. The restaurant aesthetic is simple but fairly clean. There is a small prayer area if you need it. The service was fine, too. Since halal Vietnamese food is so rare in the US, I would encourage anyone (especially Muslims) to give Champa Kitchen a shot. These small businesses are worth patronizing.

6 Piece Shrimp Rolls, Thai Tea

Just had to leave a review for Champa Kitchen. Wallah, this is hands-down the BEST halal restaurant in the Bay Area -- no question. Everything from the food, to the service, to the ambience is absolutely amazing. The beef fried egg noodles are packed with flavor, the paratha is perfect, the shrimp rolls are crispy and fresh, and the Thai tea is honestly one of the best I've had. Every single thing we ordered was amazing. What really makes this place stand out too is the atmosphere and hospitality. The staff are super welcoming, and they even have a place for you to pray, which I really appreciated. If you're looking for amazing halal food in the Bay Area, this is the spot. Highly recommend.

Vegetarian Pho, 2 Piece Spring Rolls

Ive been meaning to try this place for a while! Decided to give it a visit since they were having a Palestine fundraiser, which I love that they did that, and was truly not disappointed. There aren't any halal viet spots in San Jose so my family was happy to come check it out as well. I ordered the veggie pho since I'm vegetarian and they were also able to make the spring rolls vegetarian as well, which I really appreciated. The pho was so flavorful for being veggie and I was happy with it. Everyone at the table truly enjoyed their food as well. All the workers were so friendly and accommodating, and there was plenty of seating inside. I would definitely come check this spot out if you're looking for some yummy pho or other viet dishes.

The location of the store seems a little far away because it's in the corner by Safeway's gas station off to the side, so I imagine some people miss it. It's nice to see owners work at times and treat their customers so genuinely! So thank you, Chris! The store is honestly decorated so well. There's details everywhere on the wall, and it's all dedicated to San Jose culture and first responders. The ambiance felt local and cool. Now for the food, my husband ordered the Build Your Own Sub with Pastrami and it was delicious! I ordered their new and off the menu French Dip sub with aus ju and IT WAS SO GOOD. Highly recommend to get it now while they have it! Special notes: - All subs are served hot! - They have a hot sauce bar with unique sauces all leveled off from (1-10). 1 = mild and 10 = spiciest! Affordability: both of our subs came out to be around $20 for two large subs. Some people may view the prices as pricey, but if you get a large sub it's definitely worth it. Check out the photos for reference (I don't think the photos do the large size justice though because they are HUGE) and give Firehouse Sub a try for yourself!

Smoked Turkey breast, Honey Ham, and melted Monterey Jack cheese, served with lettuce, tomato, onion, no mayo for me, and deli mustard with a pickle spear on the side. The sub were just okay for me, nothing amazing. ~ Firehouse Steak & Cheese (Large) - 3/5 Looks much better in the brochure. It's fine, tasted OK. Nothing to brag about, don't let the sando sit around. Make sure you finish it all at once or it will get soggy... may be its because of the oil and vinegar dressing I opted for? Not sure... The wheat bread is a tad too sweet for my liking and the white bread is just plain and flavorless. I do wish they provided options like Sourdough or Dutch Crunch, which also happen to be healthier for you. I wanted to complain that they were expensive but then realized that's how it is everywhere now. That food inflation is no joke... I'd stop by if nothing was around. Not so sure I need to try other items on the menu.
