Super legit Malaysian food and super friendly people…read more Came here a couple times now and every time has been fire. The restaurant is located in a pretty busy plaza. There is plenty of parking, but it can get pretty full, especially on weekends. The shop is family owned and the owners are amazing people who just love to cook Malaysian food. Tastes: Char Kway Teow: Iconic noodle dish. Great amount of wok hay. Lots of flavor and tons of meat and noodles. This is really my go to when I go. Roti Canai: Super hot and flaky roti with a delicious curry to boot. Great as an appetizer. Hainan Chicken: Perfectly cooked chicken with chicken rice and some sauces. A solid staple and I really enjoyed the ginger scallion sauce with this. They have quite the extensive menu and I will definitely be coming back in the future for more. I have my eyes on the Fresh Dungeness Crab which looks to be the Singaporean Chili Crab! Overall, an amazing place for some legit and delicious Malaysian food.

Upon arrival, the staff was rolling around in an office chair behind the counter?!? The tablet for ordering wasn't operational. The entire transaction took place while the staff was sitting on his chair...weird. Was looking for a drink, like a Teh Tarik and noticed that the vast majority of the drinks were canned drinks from a factory somewhere...odd. Opted for the runny egg hor fun and it wasn't as good as my prior visit, definitely not as good as the versions I've had in Singapore. The runny egg hor fun came out in a bowl, which was different. It was mainly hor fun with a few shrimps and a few pieces of fried tofu. ...I guess this is also quite different from the seafood versions I've had in Singapore. The hor fun did have a nice charring which was the highlight. I was looking for some chili sauce but the versions that they had next ot the register seemed quite Americanized...bummer ~$21 for a runny egg hor fun.

My family dropped by since we had seen there was a Singapore national day pop up. We queued to…read moreorder via kiosk and then had to wait ~50 mins for our food. Perhaps it's because of the rush of orders and addition of items I assume are not usually on their menu, things were a bit chaotic. Multiple people ordered multiple dishes and the kitchen was getting some orders confused (eg calling out an order # multiple times even though that customer had been served already). I will only review the 3 dishes my family got. Perhaps the Nasi Padang combos are better here (I see this is most commonly reviewed and popular), but sadly, they had already ran out of the Ikan Masak Lemak thirty mins after opening. Nyonya Laksa (2/5) @ $18 -- The soup was too watery and there wasn't enough of a coconut taste to it. The chili helped a little once mixed in, but there was still something missing from the soup. Mee Rebus (3/5) @ $18 -- The sauce was flavorful and slightly sweet. However, the sauce was poured on top of the tempura shrimp so I had soggy tempura. A little nit: I had to stir the noodles to make sure all noodles were coated. Hainan Chicken Rice @ $17 -- I didn't try much of this but the rice was fragrant as expected and had that chicken essence taste. Ah, the ginger scallion sauce also tasted sour like it had gone bad. Also ordered a milk tea (strong and standard) and a milo (which came in a can, I thought this would be made in house but I was wrong). This store is a stall inside a larger food court, so seating is limited. There is a public bathroom. Service was nice -- they asked if we were eating there and served us. All plates/cutlery is disposable so it's easy to pack up if you don't finish there.

Tried the Nasi Lemak and it really hit the spot. The rice was fragrant, the sambal had a nice…read morebalance of sweet and spicy, and the anchovies with peanuts added great crunch. The chicken was tender and flavorful, and the egg + cucumbers balanced everything out. Solid portion and very satisfying and would come back! The place was inside the food hall and easy to spot.

They have Malaysian, Indian,…read moreIndonesian, and Burmese food items on menu and it makes me nostalgic for the 4 months I lived in Singapore as an intern. Mohinga fish soup: the national dish of Myanmar. The base is fish and there are big chunks of soft onions and small chunks of fish inside. It tastes like crab soup with a subtle spice aftertaste and a very, small fermented taste. Tea leaf salad: The small green Thai chilis are SO hot and made me cough instantly. A decent tea leaf salad with nice crunchy bits through you can find it better at other places. Indian mee goreng: Too sweet for our taste and less soy sauce than we like. It tasted like the primary sauce ingredient was ketchup. Plenty of large shrimps and nice pieces of potato and bell peppers. Hainam chicken combo: yellow color chicken and rice. The sauces this came with were great. The bones were a bit sloppily cut but it still tasted good. Roti pratha: This used to be my lunch often in Singapore, so nostalgic! Roti with coconut curry for dipping. Came super super hot and fresh.

Overall-- pretty good Malaysian restaurant in the U.S.! 7.5-8/10. Staff were from Malaysia…read more Our orders: Char Kuey Teow (16.99) pretty decent / authentic, sambal sauce could have been more fragrant (from a Malaysian standpoint), otherwise really good for U.S. standards Curry Laksa with shrimp (15.99) the flavor of the curry was really good. The chicken could have been more flavorful (e.g. marinated in curry longer or different cut of chicken to soak up the soup better). Chicken Satay (11.99) the flavor is there but not traditional, over the charcoal taste but that's hard to find in the U.S. It's a very large portion of chicken so makes up for the price. The peanut sauce is good-- one of the better ones we've tasted in the U.S.

The food was good, but portions were small unfortunately.... Flavors were a bit more muted than expected. Duck garlic noodles were the yummiest. We also got nasi lemak (not pictured) which had really good sambal on the side. Chicken satay was solid, but nothing special. Overall, I'm happy to see a Malaysian place on the Peninsula but it's definitely catering to the MP population (which is fine)! Just won't be my go-to when I'm craving Malaysian food flavors.

Somewhat experienced with Singaporean food because of family, so I do have higher/different…read moreexpectations. Generally good but it's different than what I expected. New location is much larger! Menu has gotten a bit easier to read. Decor and styling is a bit more modern, trendy, and bright. Nice to see that they have brunch sets that come at a slightly discounted price -- drink + main + appetizer. Did wish the portions were a bit larger however, but Menlo Park rent is expensive so maybe that's why? Quite busy on a Sunday morning, we had to join a waitlist and waited for ~10 mins. Seats are nice and cushioned. Convenient parking lot across the street. Char Kway Teow (4/5) -- revising my prior review, this was much better! I tasted a bit of the wok-he smokiness and it was sweet as well. My friend says he wished it was more smoky. Eggs + Kaya toast (3.5/5) -- pretty standard. I actually wanted to crack my own eggs, but that's just a me thing! Eggs were a little over cooked, but still delicious. Kaya toast could be a little crispier but the Kaya jam was very good. Hard to get this dish wrong! Nasi Lemak (3.5/5) -- Egg looked fried, but didn't really taste it. Wasn't bad but nothing really stood out as well. Coconut rice could have been maybe a little bit more fragrant but still good. Wished there was more beef rendang. Hokkien Mee (2/5) -- this one made me a little sad because this is one of my favorite dishes! Egg noodles didn't look the same, was much paler than expected. Didn't come with any sambal chili sauce at the side, so it didn't have much flavor as is. Came with shrimp and octopus. Calamari Juice (4/5) -- Not bad! Pretty good, but don't think I'll be craving this

I asked while pointing to my Pixel Wings, "Are these wings double-fried?"…read more My waiter gave an emphatic, "Yes!" The Pixel Wings were deeply golden, with crunchy ridges that were audibly crisp. The chicken wings were adorably small, but every wing was crunch-worthy, with tender, juicy meat inside. Paired with the bright, chili-flecked house sauce, this small plate left a big impression! This was the second time my husband and I visited Must Be Thai. The other times we attempted to come here, the restaurant was packed, and we had to go somewhere else. This time, we found a nice window of opportunity for a Monday lunch. I enjoy this restaurant because it has a unique way of organizing its menu, emphasizing the regions of Thailand from which the dishes originate. It encouraged my husband and me to explore something new on the menu, as though we were traveling to that region ourselves. Besides the Pixel Wings, we traveled to Southeast Thailand to try The Ex Rockfish. The presentation was wonderfully dramatic. The whole rockfish arrived opened and deep-fried, curving around the bowl while a colorful tumble of buttery pieces of fish and peppers filled the center. A zesty green dipping sauce was also provided to cut through the richness of the dish. Pair that with a bowl of jasmine rice and some Thai iced tea and *chef's kiss*. This was a dish we had never tried before, and I'm glad our waitress recommended it! Another thing I enjoy about this restaurant is the youthful cheekiness of its ambiance. The dining room has a playful, urban-industrial aesthetic softened by warm wood and light colors. It feels both relaxing and energetic. The mural boasts a chaotic depiction of what appears to be a tuk-tuk and Godzilla fighting off some durian. The menu has a similar vibe. Despite all this playfulness, they don't mess around when it comes to food quality. Friendly service, great food, and a fun ambiance - we'll be coming back for more!

Fresh spring rolls with shrimp we're served instantly which is always a sign they've been prepared and sitting in the fridge therefore clear wrap is hard and not soft as it should be. Patay with chicken okay but lacked in flavor. Tom yum fried rice extremely salty. In fact I couldn't eat it. The shrimp and calamari in it were okay and not salty like the rice. I ate here 2 years ago and wasn't impressed then, but my friend wanted to go here so I thought I'd give it another try. Never again. I will stick to the Thai restaurants I know.
