High quality boba shop that really stands out from the usual spots. The tea tastes fresh and well brewed, and you can tell they pay attention to the details with texture and flavor. Drinks feel more refined than your typical milk tea place. Only wish the cup sizes were a bit bigger because I finish them way too fast. Definitely worth stopping by if you are in the area.

I was surprised to see Chicha San Chen in Boston! I used to buy Taiwanese milk tea there all the time in Hong Kong. Bubble Volcano熔岩波霸黑糖鮮奶: It didn't taste as good as the Hong Kong version. The milk flavor was very weak, the brown sugar didn't cling to the cup and tasted artificially sweet, the texture was very watery, and the boba was just regular. Even though I ordered less ice, there was still a lot of ice. I have absolutely no idea why it's so popular...

Solid spot for bubble tea for those of you who are big fans of tea. The tea is good and they have a large amount of variety. They also host tea tasting events if youre interested in that! If you're looking to get work done, there's also some spots for seating on the side as well as one large main table. The main drawback for me is that this place is pricier than some other alternative spots. Overall, would recommend!

I loved this! The perfect amount of sweetness and a fresh mango flavor in the mango oolong tea. You place your order on tablets in front and it was ready after about 10 minutes. The inside was very clean and quiet, and on the street so you can people watch from the tables inside. Great location and drinks!

Stop by for oolong tea with jelly grass and brown sugar before the Redsox game. The place was very busy and time wait for tea tasting was kinda long. It was pretty easy to order our tea on one of their machine and they also offered sample. The tea were pretty expensive but the it tasted pretty good. The worker seemed pretty friendly and the tea shop bright and clean.

Super nicely decorated tea spot! -mango tea: this was nice but the tea taste was barely there. I mainly tasted just mango juice, it was refreshing though. -ding milk tea with taro boba: the taro boba is the star here, tea again was not super strong very milky. I had high expectations seeing how they brew their tea like espresso but was a bit disappointed.

Place is cute, everyone is friendly. I think this is top 3 spot to get boba in Boston.

Black tea with Bubble. And yes at Hynes green line.

Service and Ambiance: feel like when I walk in there, its as pristine as the renovated restaurant in The Bear. Top notch, they do not mess around, clean and bright, and present your drink like they just made God's gift to you. This tea is hands down the best black boba tea in Boston. I mean you'll certainly pay for it, but worth it. The black tea is high quality, perfectly brewed, and boba are fresh

Really great find! This boba shop was extremely busy on Saturday night, which makes sense given the location right along Mass Ave and Newbury St. The interior is clean, modern, and bright, though there aren't enough seats (or even standing room) for the number of customers! I ordered two drinks off their popular items section, the dong ding oolong tea (light sugar, less ice) with boba and the bubble volcano (less ice). We both loved our respective drinks. The dong ding oolong was great for a tea-focused flavor, and "light sugar" was the perfect sweetness level. The boba was also the ideal texture for perfect chewiness, which isn't always true of boba shops! On the other hand, the bubble volcano will certainly appeal to someone who likes sweets. Both drinks were $8.25 before tax and tip. They came "dressed up" with straws in cute little holders that theoretically make the drinks easier to carry, but I found it difficult with two (since I was worried about the straws falling out). The staff seemed very professional and efficient. We'll definitely be back, and probably for the same exact drinks!

Yummy tea

Still yummy, but after having visited a number of times I'm not as blown away by the tea and boba, and I personally have other favorites I prefer in Boston. Good for a solid quality tea flavor if you're downtown since the location is super convenient, and service is quick and helpful, but also other good options in the area.

Chicha San Chen is now in Boston! My first time trying was in Cupertino, and I expected the infamous 45 minute wait for one brew of tea --- but I guess we're impatient in the east coast because my order was ready in 5 minutes! Their teas are brewed to order using high-quality loose leaves, with standout options, this time around I got the Osmanthus Oolong lemon with konjac. Really good, but I should have gotten it with honey too to balance out the lemon. The shop is clean with plenty of natural light. Service is fast and friendly, though I ordered from a kiosk. It also looks like they have a tea tasting area which I plan to look into and try for myself. Easily accessible by green line.

The drink took a while to prepare but there was plenty of space to sit down and wait so it was okay. I got their popular milk tea and it was so delicious! I think their boba was also good, just a little more on the expensive side but definitely worth a try!

Rating: 4.4 Went to try the popular bubble tea shop recently opened in Boston to see if it was worth the hype. When we went it was rainy and the place was a bit difficult to find because the google map location was off and it was on the side of a newly constructed building complex. When we got there there were a-lot of people and was busy but they did have a lot of staffs to cover the load of customers. Inside was pretty small but had some table and chairs to sit and counter to place your orders. It was very busy but was able to quickly place an order through kiosk and they have a monitor to let you know when the order is ready which is very convenient. We ordered the Milk bubble tea and Dingdong oolong tea with boba, perfect sweetness and less ice. The bubble tea came with unique cupholder with string and straw that made it easy to carry the drink. Drink itself was pretty good as the tea was flavorful and not overwhelmingly sweet (with perfect sweetness option). Boba was nice and chewy and slightly sweet. I personally liked my Milk bubble tea better. The service was good and they were also offering tea making demonstration and tasting but the line was long so we decided to skip. Overall the place was pretty good. I would say it's definitely higher quality bubble tea shop than some I've been to. The Price is a bit on higher side considering the portion but I did enjoy it.

Well-known Asian fusion spot in the South End neighborhood of Boston. Co-founded by Joanne Chang…read more(hence the name +Chang) who also founded Flour Bakery (which I love). Modern and elegant vibe inside with kind staff willing to explain the menu in detail. The first time I went here years ago, I was a bit disappointed. The menu is more so small plates/tapas style. My parents and I came for lunch and found the food to be extremely salty and although it was Asian fusion, I thought that the Asian flavors were quite lackluster. I gave it another try a couple of years back with a friend for dinner service and found the food to better this time around. We shared their eggplant, salmon rolls, lemon shrimp dumplings, and tuna two ways. Eggplant was plump and I believe had some Thai basil or other aromatic stirfried into it which I appreciated. Salmon rolls were fun and I appreciated the sauce. Lemon shrimp dumplings were oily but packed with flavor and I also liked the creamy tangy sauce that came with it. Tuna two ways was the favorite; big fan of crispy rice at sushi restaurants so if that's your jam you'd like this.

We were five people and we shared the following: - papaya salad - bokchoy - Brussel sprouts - pan roasted salmon - nasi goreng - pork bao buns - pork and chive dumplings I can't even pick which ones were my fave (maybe the nasi goreng) but they all complemented each other so well. Don't skip the dessert!! Cocktail was insane as well, had the bloodlust which had a nice spicy kick to it. Coming back soon for more. Service was quick and they gave us a birthday cake on the house for friend's bday!

Great authentic cuisine!…read more We really enjoy dining in at Taipei because everything is always so darn delicious! There are plenty of big and small tables and the waiters are very nice. They have a huge menu with some images to choose from. It's always so hard to decide because we want to order everything everytime we are craving good Chinese food! As soon as you sit down they bring you a tea pot full of hot tea which is really nice. This time we wanted to try the spicy fried fish and the sand pumpkin and mini shrimp fried rice. The fish was nice and spicy and very crunchy! The sand pumpkin had a nice texture and it was cooked perfectly. Every dish was literally made to order because each one came out hot and one right after the other. By the end of the meal we were stuffed and satisfied and we were happy to have leftovers to take home. This place never disappoints!

Service was strange... hot tea came to table right away and was watered down and minimal tea flavor. I ordered a sesame chicken lunch special which came with soup egg drop soup, spring roll , white rice. I ordered a side of beef teriyaki . Waitress asked 1 or 2 teriyaki ? I assumed how many teriyaki sticks or small or large options? I said 2. Egg drop soup and spring roll shows up with duck sauce... egg drop soup was very good. Spring roll was excellent and filling was fresh. Then Next 2 orders of beef teriyaki with 4 sticks each show up??? She takes away my duck sauce from my spring roll... and leaves me with no duck sauce for my beef teriyaki? I now ask for duck sauce for teriyaki? She brings out a hot spicy sauce instead of duck sauce ? The sesame chicken was very good but more sweet and sour sauce flavor than sesame ? The beef teriyaki was extremely tough meat and I had to ask for a knife to cut up? No glass of water as I saw other tables getting water? I had to ask for water as tea wasn't doing it for me ? Then another duck sauce shows up I didn't ask for but glad it did arrive and was needed? Teriyaki had great flavor but tough like beef jerky and one order would have been enough to tolerate without the confusion of getting 2 orders and then also charged for two ? I found the service confusing and not a smooth outing? Then both the waitresses disappeared while waiting for the check . I asked for a glass of water at this point. No fortune cookie, pineapple or exit offering with the check? All in all I was confused.. but I would eat again here and assume staff trying ... next time I'll be very clear what 1 vs 2 means. The menu does look many good options and convenience with parking, location and nice dining room. I would have rate 4-5 stars but the teriyaki wasn't tender and too tough to enjoy.

Hot & Sour Soup 酸辣湯: Extremely sour, too sharp. Homemade Sausage 自製手工香腸: Tastes like mild Chinese sausage, rather hard and dry. Home Style Spiced Chicken 木蘭燒雞: As a cold dish, it has the feel of Northern-style braised chicken, salty and smoky. It's okay, but the chicken and skin are too soft. Minced Pork with Preserved Long Beans 酸豆角小炒: Also very sour and quite spicy, the flavor is too stimulating for me. Shredded Beef w. Hot Chili Pepper 角椒牛肉絲: Large portion, very flavorful, the fresh green peppers are even a little crunchy, which is interesting. If you can handle spice, you'll probably find it quite appetizing. Ma-po Bean Curd 麻辣豆腐: Not very spicy, the tofu is smooth and flavorful. However, the Sichuan peppercorns are a bit over-fried, you can taste a slightly bitter aftertaste. Braised Pork Shin in Brown Sauce 冰糖元蹄: There's no such thing as a bad pork shin. This one was stewed until incredibly tender, practically falling off the bone, with a pure, non-greasy flavor. However, to be honest, the sweetness of the rock sugar and the color of the sauce were just average. Sauteed Chinese Squash 清炒絲瓜: As a Cantonese, my favorite thing is still green vegetables. My parents owned the spot years ago when it was Timmy Cafe. They sold the spot to Laurence's mom and she in turn sold it to him. The space is bright and the food is fire. There's not a lot of seating but there's a steady stream of people ordering to go. Laurence will also host pop up experiences for local chefs. My daughter loves their plain congee. I'm a big fan of the Rubato Fun Fun. The brisket in there tells you that Laurence knows how to make Chinese brisket the right way. They also have an amazing brisket steamed bao. The Fun Fun is loaded with everything you would want on a cheung fun dish mixed together. The highlight for me and keeps me coming back is the bolo fried chicken sandwich. There's so much going on between the sweet, flaky, and fluffy bolo bao, filled with a generous serving of a delectable fried chicken and saucy slaw. You get a complex mixture of flavors and textures in every bite. It can get messy, so lean forward and eat over your dish. I love that Laurence is often in the store and giving time to the fans of his TV cooking competitions. His team are also super competent and kind. I used Rubato catering for an event and the participants are still raving about the spread months later. Don't sleep on this local celebrity spot!

I heard about Rubato's for 5-6 years now. Every time I don't get to go in Boston, my expectations…read moreand anticipation for it just increases. The food is solid and overall better than Bayao imo. It was just my fault for having overly high expectations. Also I was frustrated about the service. They have a seating policy where you have to order before getting a seat. The sign is in small font, lots of words printed on a piece of paper, propped next to the cashier. My friend and I weren't the only ones who didn't notice the rules and plopped ourselves on a chair before getting kicked out by the cashier. We weren't upset at that. The problem was when we changed our order from eat-in to to-go due to the seating policy and not seeing additional available seats, the cashier guy didn't update it in the order. We saw them prepping our order for eat-in, so we spoke behind the counter that we meant to have it to-go. The cashier guy responded in a rude tone. They should do a better job of communicating the seating policy and managing their 6 seats. They could put the sign with less words and bigger letters at the door, steps to entrance, and under menu. They could also put a divider to make sure people don't cross into the seats before reaching the cashier. Since we had to order food to-go, things were not at its peak by the time we ate it, but I think it was solid given the delay. Also not sure if transferring the food from eat-in plates and bowls to takeout ones would affect the composition and therefore taste and texture. We ordered: HK milk tea, soy milk, Rubato's fun fun, salt and pepper chicken with rice, Sampan congee, and a lava custard steam bao HK milk tea tastes legit but it was too mild - not the same as watery. At least it didn't feel rough on the tongue. Less sweet was a bit too sweet for me given the weaker tea strength. I think the mildness makes it appeal to a wider audience. Bayao's milk tea is punchier with sharper tea flavors while also being rougher on the tongue. I can't decide which one I prefer more. I like it more than the soy milk though. Soy milk does taste homemade. It tastes chalky (flavor not texture) but not green. Rubato's fun fun is the HK street food version of cheung fun rice noodles where it's the plain rolls of cheung fun with curry fishballs and beef stew. I like the cheung fun. It's silky smooth with a slight chew without being tough or rough or mushy, better than Bayao. The order only came with two fishballs which had a slight bounce (would like more) and bit of sweetness (also would like more). The curry sauce was overpowered by sauce from the beef stew. The beef stew tasted right too, although mild, but the biggest problem is with the meat being a bit tough and dry (edible but can be better). Salt and pepper chicken with rice is my favorite dish of the meal. The chicken meat can improve on juiciness and tenderness but at least it wasn't too dry. The batter was thicker than I'd like but at least airy and crunchy (despite being cold). The skin stayed dry despite taking it to-go which makes me wonder if the food was room temperature to start. The "salt and pepper" aspect of it was closer to "fried garlic and chili flakes" type of situation. Nevertheless I very much enjoyed that flavor and abundance of seasoning which generously coated each bite of chicken and rice. The rice was properly fluffy and not too hard or soft despite being cold when I ate it. Also I was actually a bit surprised by how little rice there was both absolutely and relatively. Sampan congee was something I was skeptical about because it looks like they only sprinkled toppings on top of a plain congee. I know it's hard to expect to have a pot for each variety of congee, but sometimes you need to boil things together to have the ingredient flavors seep into the congee. I like how the peanuts weren't too hard or soft. The dried fish and dried scallops were sufficient in flavor and quantity to add flavor to this congee. However they were too fishy for my liking, not necessarily sweet. I experimented adding the salt and pepper chicken's garlic chili seasoning into the congee and it was amazing. Overall I was impressed with the congee texture too. Since there were toppings mixed inside I don't necessarily have a full view of it plain but it was smooth with softened partial rice grains without being a goopy mess. Lava custard steamed bao was all cold and wet from condensation (came in a bag) by the time I ate it. At least the skin wasn't too soggy and it was fluffy inside even when cold. The filling was too sweet for me (I know it's supposed to be sweet) and wish there was more/stronger salted egg yolk flavor. They had some steamer baskets behind one of the counters but it looked dry (without) steam and cold. I didn't see if they grabbed my bao from there but I'm skeptical if they even keep the baos warm.
