Not so sweet (I recommend always getting less than 50%) yet still had that fruity taste. It truly doesn't take away from the drink. Workers are quick and interior has setting and a bathroom, very welcoming! This drink was around 7-8 dollars so a little more pricey but its size is pretty big. You can order at the kiosk or go to the cashier whichever is convenient We got the Jasmine tea with amber boba and the Rose oolong tea with amber boba. Both had a strong and fresh tea flavor & the amber boba was soo chewy and soft. This is my second time coming and it's rare to find a boba spot to hang out in. Mango pomelo smoothie - highly recommend their mango pomelo smoothie! It's so creamy and it's not watered down. Walking back to the T from a medical appointment, we stopped in here to grab some tea, as it is my companion's goal to try all of the tea places in the area. I have had bubble tea in many cities in the US and abroad and this was the first time I've encountered a gritty texture. I was excited to grab the purple sweet potato drink because this is one of my favorite flavors and often not available. The boba themselves were well-prepared, which I very much appreciated. As other have mentioned, if you're looking for an Instagrammable drink, this is definitely a good spot for you. They seemed to spend a lot of time making sure the potato puree was applied artfully to the inside of the cup and none on doing more than dumping a lump of that same puree at the bottom of the cup, which has not been my experience with this type of drink anywhere else. Still not 100% sure what purple potato is/ what's in the drink, but the color is amazing and it isn't too sweet. It has a little chewy texture to it, like sweet rice?? Two drinks I would not recommend are the brown sugar milk tea and strawberry yogurt. I wouldn't recommend the brown sugar milk tea as you don't get that intense brown sugar flavor/ milk-flavor is a bit too intense. The store front was a little easy to miss it is in a basement so make sure you read the sign on the top storefront and take the stairs down. We always try boba tea whenever we visit a Chinatown and I was glad we did since TSAOCAA in NY is so our of my way. I got the passionfruit lime green tea. There is real lime in the tea and passionfruit seeds on the bottom of the cup. The seeds can be annoying as you bite on them and gives a crush sound. I enjoyed the sourness of the whole drink. My kids didn't not like it as it is too sour so maybe not a kid's choice. They got the brown sugar and strawberry boba which they LOVE. I ordered all the drink 50% sweeten and was perfect. I love the options of customizing the sweetest as sometimes most boba tea tend to run more sweet. I took away a star cause of the how the in store of the store is presented. Another boba place in Chinatown is between Tiger Sugar and Tea Do. You walk down the stairs and enter a fairly modern-looking cafe. I ordered a guava green tea with boba and was pleasantly surprised with myself. I wanted something fruity, so decided on guava since most places generally don't offer it. The tea flavor stands out and there are actual chunks of guava that added a different texture as you are drinking. I have been in this place a few times and I like their grapefruit slush. Strangly enough, every time i came here, it is a different staff member. Most of the time, they are decent. As of today, I decided to drop in to get my grapefruit slush as usual, I encountered a little strange employee. I walked in and waited at the counter because I can see she was busy. Tsaocaa is amazing!! The drinks here are super delicious and the design of the cup is very aesthetic and cute. I love their logo haha. The drink prices range from $4.50-7.00. There cafe itself it's my too much but there are a couple tables. I saw a ton of flies on the walls, so there definitely can be some improvements in terms of cleanliness. Lots of variety and seasonal flavors, though not exactly great on a cold winter day, and not just because the drinks are cold. But because the inside ambiance is awful. My first time here in TSAOCAA chinatown, the passion fruit lime green tea is absolutely fantastic and " must to order" but unfortunately I got a couple of these plastic papers in cup which really annoyed me. In my opinion, this is the latest and best milk tea place in Chinatown with a variety of drinks you won't see at other places and the quality of it. My coworker and I went this week. I got the peach oolong milk tea and my coworker got the brown sugar milk tea. I can literally taste the peach flavor along with oolong. They use all fresh and natural ingredients. And even their cup design is high quality and creative, kind of reminds of hey tea in China. The downside right now is that they recently opened so it takes a bit longer to make the drink and you likely have to wait 10 minutes. As their process smoothes, expect less wait time. Tsaocaa is the newest Boba place in Chinatown. Clearly inspired by 喜茶 (Hey Tea), Tsaocaa is trying to position itself as hip and fashionable and it shows in the brands DNA. There are a lot of good things to saying about this place--the cacti decorations tactically remind diners of the dry Sahara desert, driving them to purchase more product and to enjoy the evanescent pleasures of life to the fullest. The menu beams of creativity, and the plethora of options presents something enticing for both the middle aged father of two and the fashionista who just flew in from JFK. The tea is--on par, but the cups are deceivingly small, and I wish that the sugar levels were just a tad higher (refer to my article about the evil of sugar and why we should live a sugar free life). I got the Brown Sugar Bubble Milk and thought the brown sugar boba had the right amount of QQ texture and sugar. It flavored the milk well without being cloyingly sweet, as opposed to many other shops around the area. There was a hint of salt to my drink which made me wonder if there was added milk foam/cheese; my drink ended up tasting similar to salted caramel milk, but I was pleasantly surprised! Service was a little slow and I had a slight order mishap, (the cashier thought I ordered Brown Sugar Milk Black Tea w. Bubble instead of Brown Sugar Bubble Milk), but they refunded me the price difference and promptly made me a new one. So what do I have to say about Tsaocaa? Not much, considering that it's another rendition of a sit-in boba shop inside of Chinatown. Just like the one shop that's more appealing-to-the-masses, right next door (Teado). Or the other shop down the street that already has a wide selection of fan-favorite boba drinks (Royal Tea). And we can't forget the staple that is Kung Fu Tea at the end of the street. Tsaocaa is simply a late runner in the game of Chinatown Boba shops. When I first saw Tsaocaa, I thought of it to be something better than the rest. I wanted to be awed. After years of Boston's Chinatown's boba and Asian fusion craze, we needed something different to bring Chinatown back to its roots. Something that can tell developers and industrialists that we have a culture you can't take away. ... I was not expecting boba culture to be it. Aside from the that, the presentation of the store was beautiful. Had a simple color scheme of whites and grays that created a more modern look, but they could've done more. As for the drinks? I bought the "Lychee Green Tea w Crystal Pearl and Milk". Did I go crazy for it? No. Did I hate it? Not really. This was the general conclusion I drew for almost everything here. It was a mixture of a smoothie and tea that had milk in it. So... milk shake? The crystal pearl has a chewier texture than regular tapioca boba and the milk was a good addition to combat the lychee if it became too sweet. Overall, Tsaocaa deserves a 3/5. I genuinely believe I would've driven the rating to a 2.5 considering how filtered the shop was with Asians (specifically Mandarin-speaking), however that's not strong enough of a reason. It would be a reason to harm the business though, if they were only appealing to a certain demographic in Chinatown, then they'd best focus on the tourists and the neighborhood. Chinatown's atmosphere is shifting and we need to be cautious on how we define our neighborhoods with the businesses that are being built around it. read more
