Cha Kung Fong is located in Chinatown, on a corner, across from a parking structure. Since my husband and I were in Chinatown, looking for a place to get take out for dinner, we decided to also get some tea as well. The reason why I came here was because a few other Yelp members had written about buy one, get one free drink specials. But when I came in on a Tuesday rainy evening, I was told there is no such special. But online, they have a 15% discount but is also available in store.
So after looking over the menu, I ended up ordering:
Hot Classic Milk Tea with Boba, $4.50 prior to tax- I ordered this drink to be made with 50% sweetener. I also had told the girl that I wanted herbal jelly... even after telling her twice, I still got boba. But the boba was good and perfectly cooked (herbal jelly and pudding is my preferred topping over boba). The drink itself tasted like your typical milk tea, which is what I wanted. Please note that hot drinks only come in the medium size (which says so on the menu and the girl who took my order kept telling me this for some reason, even though I told her okay twice).
Strawberry and Grapefruit Green Tea, $5.50 prior to tax- I ordered this for my husband (he waited in the car with our little girl) to be made with 50% sweetener and no ice. I did not have any but my husband thought his drink was good.

(Total= $9.20 after tax + 15% discount)
Service was meh, but honesty Asian places aren't known best for their customer service. When I came in, the girl was behind a plexiglass, wearing a head set microphone in which she uses to speak to you. She was eating one of those bubble waffles with her hands but did not wash her hands when she took my order and did handle my drink orders with the help of a male employee. Anyways, when I had asked about the drink special earlier (mentioned above), she didn't understand what I was asking. And then looked over at the male employee, whom I think speaks more English. But because he was not speaking into the head set microphone, I couldn't hear him because the music was really loud playing overhead. But eventually I was able to figure out the special. Just wanted to bring this up in case you are easily frustrated and can get annoyed with a situation like this.
While the 15% discount is going on, I think drinks are affordable. But parking can be a challenge (mostly metered parking but free in the evening, if you are lucky to find any parking when you come).
Overall, the drinks are pretty good. You can tell this place knows how to make their tea and can find the right balance with their sweetness and flavors. read more
