Celebrated Lunar New Year dinner at Myers & Chang! While owners Joanne Chang and Christopher Myers were away in Asia, the staff did a good job "holding down the fort". Staff was very knowledgeable about each entree, and provided information about how entrees were cooked and served. They also had a "halvsies" menu of half-size portions (ideal portions for one or two diners). Started with the Mama Chang Pork Dumplings, which were excellent, and the cauliflower appetizer (a little spicy, but very good). Liked the udon noodles with chicken and bok choy, although a little less red chili pepper would have suited my tastes better (good for those who like a bit of zing to their food). The lettuce wrap chicken was well worth the 20-minute wait. Finished with the lemon ginger mousse, which was very light. The fortune cookie on the mousse was fresh and crisp, so good that some thought it might have been baked at Joanne Chang's Flour Cafe and Bakery. The finish was extra nice, with a red lucky envelope with chocolates accompanying the check, an orange at each table (signs for good fortune in the New Year), and red decorations hanging in the restaurant to create a festive setting. First time here tonight and had a great experience! A friend had won a gift certificate to this restaurant at an auction and invited us to go to dinner. The interior is very cool, cozy, and the cool red paint design on the glass windows makes it all feel very charming and comfortable. We did have a bit of a wait for our table despite having reservations. We ordered a bunch of appetizers to share between the 4 of us - scallion pancake, bourbon chicken wings, spicy salmon rolls, pork belly buns, sliced beef, eggplant, hot n sour soup, golden potato and lemongrass soup. I think my favorite of those was the eggplant dish - perfectly cooked and flavorful with ginger and soy. Wings were good too. The soups were nice I liked the hot n sour one. The lemongrass soup was a creamy one quite tasty but also quite filling and rich. For entrees, we ordered the roasted soy glazed salmon, the Indonesian fried rice, bok choy and surf and turf noodles. Everything was good. We were all so full and also had leftovers. But decided to order dessert too - everyone loved the vanilla bean ice cream (the menu described it as a parfait) with orange granita - really generous too - 3 scoops of ice cream and the orange sorbet which was more granular than a sorbet more like very finely crushed ice. Very refreshing! The banana caramel crème brûlée was really good too - nice and creamy. The lemon ginger mousse was very creamy but I thought had a bit too much of ginger. I've been to Myers and Chang a few times over the years and it's always been good but our most recent visit was a reminder of why it's become a long term, higher end staple of the Boston food scene. The food is really excellent - every dish was a hit, from the deep flavor of the wok-charred udon noodles to the light, crispiness of the salmon rolls with a wasabi mustard sauce that gives you just a little tingle in your nose. The menu is broad and diverse without being overwhelming. Our waitress was attentive and service was great. They have a nice selection of house cocktails as well as a beer, wine and sake list. The service and concepts are still top-notch at this institution that was celebrating its 18th birthday! The dishes were adventurous but a bit over flavored, too oily and salty. The udon with chicken and bokchoy had lots of rich flavor but with a tad too many black beans, oil, and a mix of some flavors that didn't go well together. The mushroom lo main suffered from similar issues. The shrimp dumpling was really awesome ... particularly the accompanying yogurt sauce. The standard pork dumpling also was nicely browned with a really nice inside filling. The Brussel sprouts were nicely textured but oily and overly salted and a bit too sweet. The raw red onions (or were they pickled?) worked nicely with the richness if the flavoring. The Hakka eggplant was nicely flavored with basil leaves infused into the dish. The water spinach (ong choy) was adventurous ... the barbecue sacha sauce actually works well with the vegetable, but again too much oil covered up the dish, and with the egg yolk and fried garlic a bit much was going in that detracted from the essence of the water spinach. The lemon ginger mousse was good and it was nicely adorned with their signature fortune cookie. I wish there were some crunchy elements beside the cookie, perhaps a powdered spice of some flavor. My Bostonian friend took me here and I am so glad she did! It is very stylish and we found parking easily. Our server was one of the sweetest people I've ever met and was very attentive. We ordered hot and sour soup, calamari, pork and chicken bao, cucumbers, wasabi deviled eggs, pork dumplings, and coconut cream pie. The deviled eggs were amazing! 4.5 stars I had been wanting to visit Myers + Chang for YEARS, so I was thrilled to finally make it there recently. It certainly did not disappoint. I had kept a dedicated, vigilant eye on the reservation page in hopes of securing a spot and was thankful it worked out. When we arrived, we had to wait for about 10 minutes until our table was ready, since there was such a large crowd for the small space and limited staff members. We noticed the hostesses were also bussing tables and checking in on customers, and our server was only one of two in the dining room. Despite how crazed these folks might have been, the staff remained calm, polite, and friendly. I gave them a lot of credit! Once we were seated, I decided to order a cocktail from their interesting, Asian-inspired list. I settled on the Pineapple Express, which used house-infused pineapple vodka and Thai basil, making it sweet, floral, and herbaceous. It was an excellent drink! In terms of the food, the menu was vast and affordable, especially for the large portions we received! The list had also made sure to note the allergens in each dish. Our party of three ordered a good deal of items each and loved most of them. However, each dish was very salty, so after sharing several plates, the overall salt level was a lot to handle. The Untraditional Scallion Pancake had more onions on top of it than inside of it. It was also much doughier than I was used to. It was my least favorite item. The Sweet + Sour Brussels Sprouts, on the other hand, were the best I had ever had! They were cooked just enough to be crispy without being complete charred. The texture was sheer perfection, and the marinade was tangy and delicious. I also adored the Pan-Roasted, Soy-Glazed Salmon. The medium-sized, Loch Duart (Scottish) filet had the perfect amount of sweet glaze, and it was served over pickled cucumbers, crispy onions, and white rice. The fish was ideally cooked, and the plain rice was helpful in absorbing the salty sauce. Lastly, the Kimchi Quinoa Bokkeumbap was an unique take on Korean bibimbap, as it used quinoa as its grain, rather than crispy rice. It did, similarly, contain spicy kimchi and bulgogi beef, while adding smoky, roasted pistachios for crunch. I enjoyed the dish, but would suggest it only to those that really enjoy kimchi, as it had a great deal of that spicy, gochujang flavor. The massive bowl would also have benefitted from the inclusion of more beef. After all of that food, we were, sadly, way too full to order dessert, which was a particular bummer since everything sounded so delicious! Food - 2/5 Service - 2.5/5 (everyone was nice but we were ignored so this is me being kind) Ambiance - 4/5 Ok so I remember coming to Myers and Chang a long time ago post SoWa and really liking it. Cue me 5+ years later with a guest in town and deciding to take a chance! Unfortunately, it was a bad gamble. I should have listened to the other reviews! We ordered four items to share for two people (what they recommend), and the only pro is that it was definitely more than enough food. We got the hakka eggplant, the wok charred udon with tofu and bok choy, the tea smoked pork ribs, and Thai pork lettuce wraps. It was ALL bland and lacking seasoning, so we requested salt, pepper and something spicy, which did help but was disheartening when you're out at a restaurant - we want food not ingredients! My guest at one point mentioned that some of the eggplant pieces didn't just taste a little bland but also a little raw and undercooked. To her, the pork ribs were basically a bland "block of meat" and there was not enough sauce at the bottom to dip it on. The only item that required minimal doctoring to us was the lettuce wraps because it came with a side sauce. (But no veggies? Just lettuce and pork meatballs and a handful of herbs? Sad.) It's also frustrating when this is a fancy Asian fusion place where the rice is not included and is a separate charge because then the food better be good to make up for that! Other issue was the service: I am not blaming our waiter Jake as the restaurant seemed understaffed but there were a few instances where we had to ask multiple times for things or a food item would be dropped off without a chance for us to ask for anything (serving spoons, chili oils or sauces, etc). Multiple times the food went cold because something we asked for hadn't arrived or we had to catch someone's attention to ask for it again. We packed most of the food as leftovers because my plan is to doctor the food and make it much better, and so we went home and ate something else. TLDR: Think of going to Myers & Chang as paying for an ingredients meal! I'd rather walk to Chinatown and have better food with maybe a less nice ambiance. If you haven't heard of Meyers & Chang, it is well know and has a good reputation with the Instagram influencer types in and around Boston (and those who are visiting from other places). It's also owned by celebrity chef Joanne Chang who is well known for her Taiwanese recipes (and sticky buns apparently). All in all, we enjoyed our visit to Meyers & Chang, and my actual star rating, if I'm being honest, would be 3.25 (which I rounded down to 3 for this review since Yelp doesn't have a way to grant partial stars). In other words, it was definitely good, but it wasn't as great as many of the influencers purport it to be. For details, see below for my thoughts on some of the dishes we tried. Apps: * Mama Chang's Pork + Chive Dumplings - This was pretty good; they weren't the best I've had, but they were yummy enough. * Crispy Salmon Roll - Get this; it was one of the best things we tried. It was unique and very tasty! Mains: * Wild Boar Dan Dan Noodles - Kinda one-note with little real depth of flavor, honestly... and WAY too salty. * Nasi Goreng (Indonesian Fried Rice) - A little bland, also one-note and too salty. And, IMHO, the pineapple was too much. Final thoughts: Being from the south originally, I love me some salt, but the entrées on this visit were really just too salty. My friend and I stopped by for dinner after visiting the Sowa Winter Market. The place was not packed since it was a Wednesday. The service was friendly, but the Asian fusion food was so-so and overpriced. The dishes seem more tapa-style and over-seasoned. Lemony Shrimp Dumplings with kimchi-yogurt sauce $15 The dumplings were a little sour and did not have much shrimp. The sauce did not go with it. The kimchi yogurt did not balance the dumpling flavor; more yogurt, no kimchi flavor. Short Rib Bo Kho (Vietnamese Stew) with crispy leeks, grilled baguette $28 More than two pieces of baguette were needed for the stew, especially since the stew was too salty. There is no way you can eat the stew itself without more bread and rice. Shrimp Toast with golden + buttery, extra shrimpy, seasonal jam $14 I wish the shrimp toast had more shrimp, but the toast was smooth. I like their seasonal jam. Meyers & Chang is a pretty small restaurant. We came here mid-week and were able to walk in and sit at the bar. The menu is large and varied with so many great options. Based on our experience, we ordered a few dishes that we would absolutely get again! The server suggested about 2-3 dishes per person, so to be safe we ordered 6 dishes. This was a bit too much even for two hungry people. I would recommend 4-5 dishes for two people, if you want to finish everything you order. What we drank: - Urban Cowboy: chili-infused rye, ginger, lime. This was refreshing but also spicy! This spot was packed on a wednesday night and I was seated at a corner which is usually no fun, however I got a nice view inside of the restaurant and a spectacular fire show coming from the chefs using their woks in the kitchen. I was surprised with how noisy the restaurant felt like you were at a street market but I got used to it. I started out with the housemade soda which was pretty disappointing, watered down and a tad flat. Once I saw that papaya salad on the menu and I had a feeling this place was going to be actually spicy. When I go to a lot of places it mentions something is spicy but it never is or it's a tiny touch. The highest we got was level 2 for our items but I could definitely feel the spice though an enjoyable one.The two things that stood out to me were the Hakka eggplant and thai pork lettuce wraps. At first the eggplant flavor threw me off but after a few more bits I kept going for it despite it being hot as hell (temperature wise) when it came out. The lettuce wrap was not what I expected as I thought it would be like ground pork but it was tiny burger patties. The meat itself was delicious with the grill marks that gave it an extra smokey flavor. One great thing to note is that they are really good with allergies. They note on their menu what is gluten, nut free, veg/vegetarian and shellfish which is so solid. We ate at many renowned restaurants across 5 states, but Myers & Chang was the best food we had by far! Myers & Chang has an elevated vibe - but still has a few touches that are excellently nostalgic and reminiscent of classic Chinese-American eateries like red paper placemats. They have a full bar and curated cocktails that are a must try and food that serves up complex and satisfying flavors like Taiwanese Dan Dan noodles, spring rolls with duck sauce, Korean fried chicken baos, lemony shrimp dumplings and egg banh mi with soy glazed bacon. Those were all the items we ordered and all of them hit the spot - but the Dan Dan noodles, bahn mi and dumplings were standouts! We were excited to try this place, since not very often we can find Asian restaurants to serve so many Gluten-Free options. Overall, it would have been 3.5 stars for the food: 4 stars for effort to offer a range of Gluten-Free on the menu, but 3 star for the food we ordered (mixed performance). Service and ambiance were good. We ordered all things Gluten-free to share: - Tofu fresh roll = similar to a spring roll. The tofu is not fried. It is ok, nothing too out of the ordinary. I would not order this one again even though I normally like spring rolls. - Shrimp chips = airy and crispy. - Whole Fish Laht Prik (not pictured) = the best one we ordered. Fried whole fish with citrusy and spicy sauce. Sauce to fish ratio was just right, so that the fish retain crispiness. - Char Siu Chow Fun = The fun noodle was delicate and smooth, but there's not enough in the dish. There's too much sauce (personally, I prefer less sauce in a noodle dish) - Vanilla Bean Parfait with citrus granita = the parfait was too dense, but the rest was good. Six of us enjoyed a fabulous Sunday brunch here! We had reservations for 11:30 which is when they open. Took a Lyft so we didn't have to worry about parking. They said everything was intended to share and would come out as prepared in random order, so it was always a surprise what was coming next. This spot was so fun and I truly had an amazing time trying all the dishes here. My cousins and I came here for dinner on a Sunday and I was thoroughly impressed with the food and atmosphere here. They have so much on the menu, so there's really something for everyone. For drinks, I tried the Yuzu Lemon Drop and the Garden Gnome. The Garden Gnome was a bit better - really liked the brightness in that one. As for food, the four of us ordered an assortment to share, including the Shacha Water Spinach, Sweet + Sour Brussels Sprouts, Char Siu Chow Fun, Pork + Chive Dumplings, Nasi Goreng, and the Teriyaki Salmon Head. I've been dying to try Myers + Chang for awhile now and was super excited to secure a reservation with a friend! Although this restaurant is tucked away and feels more like a hole-in-the-wall, it's really well designed on the inside and has a great atmosphere. We came fully prepared to indulge - especially considering a lot of their menu selections are shareables. I started things off with a berry yuzu soda, which was pretty light and refreshing. It also wasn't overly bubbly which I appreciated. For the table, we ordered the pork and chive dumplings, korean fried chicken bun, thai pork lettuce wraps, hakka eggplant, and black pepper shanghai surf and turf noodles. I thought every dish was super tasty and unique. However, I was definitely most impressed by the eggplant, which had such a delicious and savory flavor that was almost addictive. I wish the menu went in more detail about some of the food items, as some dishes came out not what we were expecting, but the staff were friendly and offered to explain anything on the menu (which I would probably recommend if you're a pickier eater). This place had been on my list for a while, and I'm glad I finally made it for a Sunday lunch. The menu, however, felt a bit limited--I wish there were more dim sum options! We ordered the lemony shrimp dim sum, chicken udon noodles, wild boar dan dan noodles, green fried rice, and a million Korean fried chicken baos. The Korean fried chicken was so good that we kept ordering baos just to enjoy more of the chicken! They should have the fried chicken as a standalone appetizer--it's that good. The wild boar dan dan noodles was incredibly flavorful, and the udon noodles were my absolute favorite. The green fried rice, however, is something I'd skip on my next visit. One of my favorite restaurants in Boston. They do Asian fusion right. I called in advance and made a reservation but it does seem like this place gets very busy. The service I had was spectacular. I sat at the bar which was a very cool experience because they have an open kitchen and you can watch the chefs do what they do best. I was really looking forward to trying out their Asian-inspired brunch but don't think I would return. We started off with the sesame cucumbers and shishito home fries. The cucumbers were nice and light but the flavor didn't really seep into the cucumbers, making them overall a bit bland. The fries were just regular steak fries with a sort of shishito paste on top, so not really anything special and not worth $10 in my opinion, but I will say the fries were actually well cooked - nice and fluffy on the inside. For vegetables we got the Hakka eggplant and sweet and sour brussels sprouts. The eggplant had the same issue as the cucumbers - they tasted nice on the outside but bland on the inside. The brussels sprouts could have been cooked a bit better. We also tried Mama Chang's pork and chive dumplings based on a recommendation, but these were honestly the most disappointing thing we had. They were incredibly salty and also expensive at a little under $3 per dumpling - literally dumplings you buy at the supermarket and fry yourself would taste better than these. As for the braised pork belly bao, it was actually pretty good in terms of flavor. I liked their use of pickled radish wraps and the pork was tender, and the bao was fluffy. However I don't really think it was worth it for the price. Finally, we got the nasi goreng and the wild boar dan dan noodles. The nasi goreng was pretty good at first but definitely a bit on the salty side. Meanwhile the noodles were fully on the salty side - the saltiness overpowered any other flavor and the noodles also felt a bit mushy and overcooked. The one good thing about the restaurant was the service - our server was super nice and helpful. We mentioned that we had recently celebrated two birthdays and they gave us chocolate mousse for dessert, which actually surprised me with how good it was (maybe because the sweetness balanced out the saltiness of everything we ate before). I have celiac disease and don't just have to eat gluten free, but have to be very careful of cross contamination as well. I felt SUPER comfortable ordering at Myers + Chang, as all dishes are clearlymarked with allergens. Additionally, my server, Antonio, assured me that he would be communicating with both management and the kitchen staff to assure that I was safe. They have a protocol in place whereby they put allergen free food on red plates. When the manager drops it, it's on a red plate and they're again reiterating their allergy protocol. So, I had a fresh roll, which they modified slightly for my allergy. They also served it with a sweet-and-sour sauce instead of the peanut sauce, as the peanut sauce contained wheat. I had some bok choy and the fried rice bowl with BBQ pork, pineapple, crispy onions and a fried egg. Everything was exceptional. (I wished there was more protein, as it's hard to find a protein heavy dish that is also gluten free here). My "Orange You Thirsty" cocktail was particularly refreshing after a warm weather walk through Boston. There's also a small patio to enjoy in nice weather! I'll definitely be back! read more

Myers & Chang always delivers. It is our go-to brunch spot when we're meeting friends in Boston. It's classy but not oppressively so, creative but with something for everybody, and reasonably priced for a nice restaurant. Our most recent visit highlighted how well they handle allergies, as our friend has a shellfish allergy. We were really impressed by how prepared they were and how comfortable we were in their management of the situation. Meanwhile.. the food was amazing as always! I just finished the leftovers actually and appreciate their rich flavors. We'll keep going back! read more
