Food and services were good. Never had dumplings before . I had a beef noodle soup & pork soup dumpling & bubble tea. I wanted spicy and waiter served exactly what I was looking for . Portion size shareable .

We came to Dumpling Xuan for dinner as we were craving Chinese food and found this spot near the MIT campus. For food we got the green onion & ginger lobster (2 for $58), salt & pepper pork chop, stir fried garlic pea tips, green onion pancakes, and soup dumplings. My favorite has to be the lobster which was so flavorful from the yummy ginger scallion sauce and really tender. Not to mention I thought it was a steal for 2 lobsters. The garlic pea tips were also great and really tender. It's always my go-to veggie to order at Chinese restaurants. The salt & pepper pork chop was good but a little too fatty and chewy for my liking. I wasn't a fan of the green onion pancake or soup dumplings. The green onion pancake didn't have a lot of flavor and I missed the flaky layers I love. The soup dumplings were also a miss as the skin was too thick and it tasted more like a steamed yeasted bao rather than a xiao long bao.

We ordered takeout from just down the street, and I'd be happy to go back and dine in another time! It looks like a traditional Chinese restaurant and is larger inside than I'd expected. We were given a wait time of 15-30 minutes and it was ready when we got there within that timeframe. We were most excited for the scallion pancakes and dumplings (steamed pork & leek dumplings and fried vegetable dumplings). I liked the dumplings, and the fried ones kept their crunch despite the (short) commute home. The scallion pancakes didn't stand out to me - less scallion than I'd prefer, oily as normal, cut into a mix of rectangular strips and the more common triangles. I did like that they were accompanied by a nicely vinegar-y sauce. I did enjoy the rice cakes with vegetables, especially because it's been a long time since I've had this dish! I do wish there were a few more vegetables, and it lacked leafy greens like bok choy. The braised tofu was pretty light on flavor, as is to be expected, and was paired with pretty much only mushrooms/root vegetables, rather than any greens. I didn't have high expectations for the egg fried rice since that's always such a basic dish, and I would definitely recommend picking a different fried rice dish. Rating: 3.5 stars

Walked in and was brought right to the table and given water, but the server came right over and was somewhat pushy about putting in our order. We ordered sodas and asked for a minute, and not much after the server left another server came asking what we wanted. We ordered the beef teriyaki and pork and leek dumplings as an appetizer and the General Gaus Chicken. The teriyaki was pretty standard, the dumplings were flavorless, and the chicken was again pretty standard. The entrees didn't come with anything so we had to order rice on the side. The place is clean, but just feels like you're being watched because the staff just stands around the room waiting to take your dishes. Honestly just an uncomfortable dining experience with standard food. It was ok to say the least.

If I could rate this place a 6 I would. AMAZING food and even more amazing service (the water cup never goes less than half full). Got tons of food to share with my friends - soup dumplings, spicy beef roll (recommended to get spicy), Kung Pao chicken, pork and bean curd, Szechuan fried fish -- and end the meal with some sweet orange slices! Cannot wait for next time I come back and order the rest of the menu! :D

I think we found our new go to take out. The food came in normal portions ( yes, lately some place get a little skimpy with what you find in your take out container) , and it was delicious! Trull tasty and not too spice even the dry beef with peanuts. I mean was some spiciness but it did make me cough . I usually don't eat noodles, but this veggie noodles were good , tasted smoky and weren't oily. I loved the peking pork ribs - crispy outside, yet juicy. I really want to try this place for a seat down dinner.

Stopped by Dumpling Xuan for dinner and overall had a good experience. We ordered the veggie dumplings, General Gau's tofu, dry cauliflower, and Singapore rice noodles with vegetables. Everything came out quickly and service was friendly and helpful in ordering. The General Gau's tofu was my favorite--crispy, saucy, and exactly what I was hoping for. The veggie dumplings and noodles were solid, though the flavor profile overall wasn't quite my usual favorite. The dry cauliflower was fine, but had a cinnamon-y note that didn't totally work for me. That said, there's a decent variety of vegetarian and eggless options, and the space was quiet but not empty--nice for a relaxed meal. I'd give it a 3.5 if I could, but rounding up for the quick service and solid portions.

Bright light wonton soup. Gave me nostalgia for a restaurant I used to go to growing up in a strip mall in Maine called Panda Garden. I could eat a large soup and feel satisfied but weighed down. Pleasantly surprised. Will be my go to warm weather wonton soup

Came on a weeknight and restaurant is half full. Server came quickly with water and menus. We originally had in mind what we want to eat but after looking at what the table next to us got, changed our mind. Server was attentive and checked if we were ready to order twice. After ordering, food came out fairly quickly. Dan Dan noodles tasted great but noodle was a little soft. The scallion beef pancake was a bit different than what expected, it was wrapped in stir fried beef w long horn peppers instead of sliced marinated beef shank. It tasted good nonetheless! General Tsaos chicken was on the sweeter side and boiling fish was okay. Overall good experience with Americanized Chinese taste.

Great spot for Chinese food in the Cambridge area. Seems like a staple local spot for people. Was pretty packed on a Sunday afternoon. We ordered the scallion pancake beef roll with spicy peppers. This was so good! Super crispy with good amount of beef inside. Not super spicy. Also shared the steam shrimp dumplings which were as expected. Would come back to try more things!

Service was great, they were constantly coming back with water (much appreciated) and food was pretty decent. The miso soup is phenomenal, so much flavor, tofu and seaweed! The steamed pork dumplings were good and had lots of flavor but they were HOT. The spicy crispy beef was decent but wasn't spicy at all (besides the peanuts) and it was pretty dry unfortunately. There was also a dead crab in the seafood tank which was unfortunate to see.

Wow! Who knew I would discover one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in a random part of town! Came here on a Sunday around noonish with a friend. We read good things about their soup dumplings and decided to give it a try. We were immediately seated and the staff were very friendly. We tried the pork and crab soup dumplings- so incredibly juicy with a nice savory broth. The string beans were super garlicky with a nice kick. The shanghai buns were surprisingly fluffy with a decent amount of pork. The rice cakes were chewy with flavorful pieces of beef. My friend also tried their original milk tea boba- she wished it was sweetened but I personally liked that you could taste the tea flavor strongly. The restaurant itself was super clean (and so were the bathrooms) and I liked that it was a casual place to get a quiet lunch. Also shout out to our waitress- super fast and amazing service!! She was constantly refilling our water, and despite there being qr codes on each table to order, she took everyone's order by hand and kept checking on us. When we asked for a box to take our leftovers home, she also took all our food away and boxed it up herself! Overall super super pleased to find a great restaurant so close to the green line- I will definitely be back! If you are looking for a casual place with solid chinese food, you definitely need to stop by!

We came at 11:30 on a weekend and it was pretty empty. So the food came very quick! Nice space with big wooden tables and classic casual Chinese restaurant vibes We got the rice cakes w veggies and pan fried dumplings I was craving rice cakes and these rly hit the spot! They were cooked to perfect soft chewy texture and the umami savory flavors were just right. I couldn't stop eating them even tho I was full The pan fried buns were enjoyable too! Not noticeably better or worse than other good places I've had. But the soup was good and the bottoms were decently crisp! Both were not too expensive and for big portion Would come back!

We got the Szechuan cold noodle ($10.95), Szechuan style string beans with pork ($13.95), cumin lamb ($19.95), and a bowl of rice ($1.85) to share. The one who took our order warned us that the dishes would be spicy but they were honestly okay! If you can handle Shin ramen or hot Cheetos then the dishes are even milder. The cold noodles were nice and chewy and soaked in chili oil. I wouldn't have minded if they were more garlicky. The sauce had a nice balance between sweet, sour, and savory. The string beans were fresh and had a pretty mild flavor to them with just the right amount of salt. There wasn't a lot of pork in the dish. I loved the flavor of the cumin lamb although it was on the greasy side. Each piece of lamb was so tender and packed with smoky cumin flavor! This was probably the spiciest dish of all of them and it went perfectly with rice. The lunch specials seem like a very good deal especially since food prices have increased so much recently.

The vegetables were all well seasoned and delicious, but the kung pao tofu was my favorite dish of the night. The tofu was crispy on the outside and slightly firm but moist on the inside. And the sauce complemented the rest of the dish well. Our total bill was around $100. I will absolutely visit Cilantro again, and I recommend it for take out!

Fish Fillet with Hot Chili Sauce水煮魚片: As expected of their signature dish! The basa fish fillets were incredibly tender, the Szechuan peppercorns were fragrant but not numbing, and the overall flavor was oily but not greasy. The server would remove the chilies after serving, so there was no need to worry about the spiciness. Beef Fillets & Cabbage with Hot Chili Sauce水煮牛肉: Redder and spicier than the boiled fish. The Szechuan people present commented that this was the only dish with flavor. The beef was very tender; although you could taste the tenderizing powder, it wasn't a big problem. Scallions and Szechuan peppercorns contributed much to the fragrance. Pork Intestine with Preserved Vegetable酸菜大腸: Surprisingly, it tasted like... Hakka cuisine? The pork intestines were cut on the thicker side, not the usual kind, but the slightly sour and spicy flavor with a light thickening was just right. Spicy Frog in Fried Pot乾鍋牛蛙: Despite the name, there was a lot of sauce; the bullfrog meat was too tough and chewy. Not recommended. Ma Po Tofu (With minced pork)麻婆豆腐: Very delicious! The tofu was very tender, and the Sichuan peppercorns were very fragrant. Duck with Peking Plum Sauce京醬鴨片: The duck meat was mushy and lacked texture, and the Beijing plum sauce was heavily diluted. I had a feeling of not knowing what I had eaten. Sichuan Spicy Dumpling紅油水餃: I loved them!! The dumplings were large, the filling was generous, and the skin was on the thicker side, giving them a good chewy and firm texture. Besides the chili oil and peanuts, there was a hint of vinegar, which was very refreshing. Steamed Juicy Pork Bun小籠包: The restaurant claims they are handmade daily. Plenty of soup filling, but slightly oily; the skin was chewy but not dry, unfortunately one was broken. This, sadly, was in no small part due to the concerningly low rating that Changsho holds on this platform. This changed in November 2025. If you penetrate the brutal but not brutalist concrete building on the side of Mass Ave, you find yourself in a space that is clean and colorful, yet you find yourself with a weak sense of something being slightly off. An indoor waterfall cascades to your right. A sense of vague unease comes from the bowels of your soul. For me, the aesthetic brought me back to Orchid in Garden City, NY, which I visited a number of times in my childhood. Changsho is a Cambridge staple (allegedly from 1977) that recalls a lost style of Chinese restaurant in the US. Put simply, it's as if the restaurant were designed to give the locals a taste of "The Orient" in a way that would also greatly appeal to the locals. As a result, you have wood-paneled walls, large ceramic vases, East Asian instruments, and other such decor throughout the venue. There is surely more that can be said in this respect, but I shall stop here. That aside, I can now move to the food. I sampled several items, including a formosa crispy chicken, streamed edamame dumplings, vegetable spring rolls, and dry cooked string beans. The chicken was salty, as could have been expected, but I was very pleased overall with the food. The green beans in particular were flavorful and delicious, coated in a sumptuous ointment-like sauce. I read several reviews about evil and vile service at Changsho. This was not at all my experience. The wait staff were some of the friendliest people I met this month, and the food emerged quickly to be readily shoved down our eager gullets. The restaurant is not cheap, but not extraordinarily expensive -- it is in line with what you would expect for a slightly nicer (but not fancy) sit-down dinner. The Changsho experience was impressive, and I would readily return.

The Roasted Sesame Cold Noodles were ok, as was the eggplant (which had almost zero basil). The Mu Shi was boring. The service was extraordinary - attentive, welcoming, and friendly. The decor was tasteful, the music was American jazz, which was nice. The food was tasty, but other than the expensive har gao, definitely not worth Changsho's high prices.
