Five spice house deserves more hype! One of the OG Chinatown restaurants, this place continues to serve up tasty, spicy, high quality comfort food that always hits the spot. We got their Dry Pot Chicken which comes in a little burner with perfectly cooked soft tear apart with your fingers Chicken, lots of big chunks of mushrooms, and additional veg. The fish fillet comes in a soup of spicy chili oil with bean sprouts and is so mouth wateringly good we could not stop eating it! We also added on the smashed cucumber salad which was a super refreshing veg option and a more mild spice than the other two. Overall such a yummy meal and would definitely recommend to anyone who can handle their spice!

Food is good, it's fast and decent prices. Would recommend if going to Chinatown.

Food was good, fast, and decently priced. Would recommend if stopping by Chinatown. Scallion pancakes are fire.

Five Spices House just reopened recently and was excited to give them a try again. The staff was friendly and was patient to explain to us their new mala dry pot option and helped explain some of their dishes. The place looks much nicer and looks very clean and beautifully decorated. Every dish I ordered were very good, they were definitely serious when using their spices. Everything was perfectly flavored, I especially loved the sweet and sour fish fillet. The fillet was flakey and juciy, the flavor was not overly sweet or overly tangy, and it was perfectly coated on each fillet. Their new Mala Dry Pot was so flavorful as well, with 5 level of spice to choose from. I only choose level 1 and it was still already so flavorful.

I'd been to the Central Square location before, but this was my first time at the Chinatown one. The menu has a bunch of options, both more authentic, as well as American Chinese type dishes. I went with the Lamb Cumin Style, which was delicious. My friend enjoyed her General Tso's Chicken. No complaints on the ambiance, the restaurant seemed a bit cleaner than some other spots in the area. However, the service could have been a bit better. There was something in my friend's food and they replaced it, but didn't apologize, let alone comp it. That being said, I won't hold it against them, hoping it was just a one-time incident.

Crazy flavor flounder. Perfect amount of spice. 2 people can probably finish this tbh.

If you need a spot for that sichuan spice that won't break the bank...this is it. They have a lunch special where you can choose 3 dishes (comes with a soup of the day and rice) for $33. Or...one plate for $12. Service is alright...but food was good. The price is good for dine in only of course.

I've been coming to this place since 2023 specifically for their dry mala pot. In my opinion, it's difficult to find a restaurant that serves a truly good dry mala pot, and this is the best I've had in Boston. The pricing is very reasonable, and the portions are extremely generous; my friend and I often share a bowl and still can't finish it. The service is also excellent. The restaurant has two floors, and I usually prefer to sit upstairs because it's more spacious and comfortable. My only minor complaint is that the server tends to encourage us to order more food, sometimes adding excessive amounts of beef, but the food is delicious

Five spices house reopened, and the renovations look so nice. The food all was amazing, so much flavor, amazing spice, and was all so fresh. The staff were friendly and food comes so fast. Best restaurant in chinatown

This location is in Chinatown Boston. The location is in a corner very easy to find, but not that easy for parking. The atmosphere was kinda unusual because the restaurant has two levels and is kinda small. We were directed upstairs and a server greeted us and showed is our table. The food was very good and fresh, we had lo-mein, rice and salt and pepper shrimp. I expected the fried rice to be much better but, it wasn't bad. The other two dishes were really good. If you are craving some Chinese food and are in the area, this would be a good choice.

A real disappointment, especially considering its prime location in Chinatown. The Sichuan won tons were watered down, literally. The flavor was barely detectable. We tried the crispy beef, this was pretty decent although very salty and obviously loaded with MSG. The dining room has no ambiance, service was abrupt, and the menus were dirty. Please consider going somewhere else

Really good food and HUGE portions for the price. We got chicken fried rice, chicken lo mein, and steamed vegetable dumplings. I really liked the lo mein and fried rice. They have seating inside and service was fast.

Checked out this spot in Chinatown since it was so close to the theater. We made a reservation online but they did it have it but accommodated our party. While the vegetable dumplings were not great (lacked flavor and the texture was weird) the lobster fresh from the tank was DELICIOUS! The fried rice pair perfectly with the tender and well seasoned protein. Previous reviews talked about the lack of service so we entered with that understanding. We weren't offered chopsticks. Apparently if you are not Asian presenting you only get a fork. We were rushed out of the restaurant and that felt unnecessary as we had just paid and were utilizing the restroom before we left. Just be prepared if you choose to enjoy the food.

We eventually were able to get in, there is a small space to wait with snacks though. Once our table was almost ready the host allowed us to order and once sat it came almost right away. We ordered the la-xi chicken with less spice, this has small crispy chicken pieces and lot of peppers, had to go in and pick out the little pieces. Truthfully wish it was less pepper and more chicken especially $23.95. The mapo tofu was delicious the perfect numbing sensation that I love. A must try dish was the fish fillet with crispy rice. This was $34 but it is perfect for cold day. They bring this dish out pour the soup on top and let it boil until the crispy gets cooked. We got the green beans as well, pretty standard nothing special. We got a little discount as well, I think for a late night special. The entire meal came with tea and the restaurant had calm setting with wooden interior

Disappointing Service & Poor Seating Arrangement…read more Extremely disappointed with our experience here. I made a reservation for 6 people One Month in advance (in fact, today is my birthday) expecting a comfortable dining setup for my group. However, upon arrival, we were squeezed into a table clearly designed for 4 people. When we pointed this out, the staff insisted it was a '6-person table' and refused to move us to the larger tables available, claiming those were reserved for 7-8 people. This is inconsistent and unprofessional, as we have been seated at those larger tables with a group of 6 before. What's the point of making a reservation so far in advance if the restaurant can't provide adequate seating? The lack of flexibility and the dismissive attitude of the staff ruined our evening. For a place like Mountain House, I expected much better service. Will not be coming back anytime soon."

One of us has a nut and shellfish allergy and they were able to accommodate as best as they could, which I appreciate for an Asian restaurant. We ordered tea, which I enjoyed. We were started off with a cold cabbage in chili sauce and I was pleasantly surprised. It's got vinegar and chili oil, so you have the mix of tangy, spicy, and add to the crunch- Wow. I went home and tried to look up a recipe because I loved it so much. We also shared the wonton with chili sauce which was delicious as well. The boiled chicken wasn't bad but it is a simple cold dish- so don't expect boiled chicken to be a warm dish. The sweet and sour pork was good. Next time, I'd like to try the steam egg and truffle. I probably wouldn't order the chicken again, but give me the cabbage starter and wonton in chili sauce all day, everyday.

The Fish & Fried Rice Combo: The fish dishes are super fresh and authentic. We also got some classic fried rice, and it was perfect--flavorful and not greasy at all, a great partner for the spicier mains. Beef Lo Mein: So good! They sat us (2) at the table nearest to the kitchen/front desk/bathroom, and I saw that there were open tables further towards the window. So I asked if we can sit by the window instead. Those tables are bigger and seats 4 people. The waitress turns to another worker and tells her in Chinese that we wanted to sit by the window in which this worker responds with "两个人还想坐窗边" (Two people and they want to sit by the window seat?!) in a sassy tone and then she scoffs. Mind you, this whole time we've only spoken in English but I am fluent in Chinese so I understood everything. The waitress turns back to us and just shakes her head no without any explanation. At that point, I was just like okay, they probably expects the restaurant to get busy and wants to keep the tables open. But guess what, there's literally two people sitting by the window who happens to be Chinese aunties and they were chatting it up with the waitresses and being all friendly. It was giving special treatment. The whole time we were there, they would put food down on our table and not even acknowledge us even when we would say thank you. It's almost like "here damn" when they put our food down. No eye contact, no smile, no your welcome, no "enjoy your food". And the whole time, I couldn't figure out who's actually our server because random people would give us the food and fill our water. And the whole time, that window seat was open. So I'm genuinely so confused. And it ruined my mood for the rest of the meal. Now for the food, it was what you'd expect, packed with flavor and spices. Though the dry pot was very salty and it was very confusing ordering it because it doesn't really say if it comes with vegetables and we also couldn't order any vegetables using the 3 meat option. The egg plants were really good. The soup dumplings were alright, a little dry and greasy for my liking. The skewers were my favorite. The chili wontons were flavorful, I love the sauce, but the wontons themselves taste kind of old/not fresh. We wouldn't come back again just because the food is not unique, you can find it at any Chinese restaurant like mountain house down the street. The service however seemed like it's consistently bad seeing the other reviews. And if you're going to expect a 15% minimum tip then at least act like you like your job and serve your customers with a good attitude.

I wish they had a more seamless system for handling this (in an app or taking phone numbers instead).
