Came here for dinner on a weeknight and the place was generally busy, but there was no line for a table so we were seated quickly. The spot is relatively new so the interior was modern and felt pretty clean. The menu had a good selection of claypot entrees and other sharable, albeit a bit pricy. Food came out quickly and service was overall solid. Taste was correct, but nothing crazy. Overall, we left feeling satisfied. I don't think it's the best claypot in the Boston area, but it's a good option for folks if in the direct Brookline neighborhood.

Located in the old baby cafe spot, they reworked the space to have tables and chairs rather than booths. This is a decent option in the Brookline area if you do not want to go to Chinatown for claypot rice. The eel claypot rice ($20 w/o tax) is seasoned and comes with a soft egg on top. The oozy yoke is a decadent addition to the rich eel. Pro tip: Make sure that you start stirring from the bottom to the top so that the crispy rice bottom (socarrat) is mixed in with the soft rice. This gives it texture and interest. The salt and pepper pork chop ($15 w/o tax) is crispy and not porky at all. The beef chow foon ($15 w/o tax) is a bit too oily. Service is prompt and two bathrooms are available for customer use. The mirror can be lit up.

I was sort of disappointed that the claypots are truly just rice and meat, not much else in there. You can order a side with your bowl, like veggies, but it's pretty small. The dishes come out very hot so it naturally paces your consumption. We ordered a soup and that had plenty to share between three people. Nice and new location.

You know this place is a banger when all the tables are filled with Chinese families and couples all conversing in Chinese. It's located a cool block where you have all sorts of Asian stores. This place reminded me of the restaurants in NYC Chinatown. They even offered milk tea with coffee! I haven't seen that since my NYC Chinatown bakery days. The place gets busy but the turnover is somewhat quick. Luckily we got seated right away. The staff are very nice. My wife ordered a hot and sour soup and they brought me one as well just "to try" which is very nice of them. The soup dumpling was good and juicy the congee was seasoned perfectly. The only issue I had was the egg was cut into big chunks. I prefer it as smaller pieces. The clay pot rice was a banger too with the crispy rice on the bottom. The star of the meal was the salt and pepper fried squid and shrimp. It was seasoned well and didn't taste too greasy. I can't wait to go back!

Craving Chinese food, we decided to stop by here for dinner and were seated immediately. The staff were prompt and helpful, collecting our orders as soon as we were ready. The food took a bit longer than expected to come out, but this wasn't too bothersome. We tried one of their clay pot dishes and although it looked simpler, it was so crispy and delicious. Scraping off the rice from the pot gave it a wonderfully crisp texture! I also really enjoyed their chicken feet due to how easily the skin fell off the bone and the delicious sauce. We also tried their eggplant dish, which was also pretty good. Overall, it was a nice experience, just a little pricy!

Came here on a Friday evening and was seated immediately. There are a ton of Asian restaurants in the St. Mary's area popping up lately, so it was busy but we were happy to have a table quickly. I ordered the Chinese Sausage and Bacon Claypot and it was solid. I do wish that the rice had crisped up a bit more on the bottom, as I didn't get a ton of crispy portions, but the sausage and pork belly were both very flavorful and the rice was cooked well. Another thing I will say is that I also wish the sauces on the table were labeled. There was a chili oil that we added that had a nice flavorful chili flavor without being too hot, and there was a brown sauce that we couldn't identify so we didn't use it much. When we were leaving, we saw other tables had it labeled as "claypot sauce" and if we knew that we may have tried it more since the claypot itself didn't have a ton of sauce in it. Still, it was a solid porky bowl of rice, and the serving size was enormous. One claypot may be enough for two light eaters - I don't think I could have finished this by myself without help!

Flavorful and well portioned dishes. I enjoyed all the dishes I ordered, especially the beef brisket cheong fun, soup dumplings and duck. The duck is on the saltier side but it pairs well with rice. The prices are a bit on the higher side but portions are large and it's in a busy location.

Let me start with being shocked I am the lead reviewer. Located in Brookline by the St Mary T stop, this restaurant has stuff competition on the food scene. Even with the competition and just opening, Big Fun Claypot may be a new favorite in the area for Asian cuisine. As the name implies, most food is a combination of a savory protein served over rice in a claypot. The pot is heated and creates a flavorful, crispy rice texture on the bottom and sides. Would highly recommend trying various protein as the heat and sauce or fat create different, delicious flavors in the rice. Service was very friendly and efficient. The restaurant was having a soft opening promo (15% off the bill) and all the service staff were friendly and attentive. Food also came out hot and fresh, an FYI though they bring out dishes as they are done so that the texture and food is all warm. A really good option and works well for family style meals. There was inside and outside, patio dining. All the inside dining was tables and booths. The layout made it easy/comfortable for groups from 2-8 people.

    Beef chow fun
    Emily Y.

Beef chow fun had generous beef portions but slightly too oily. The claypot rice was crispy on the edges and we added plenty of sauce. It does take a while to cook but the other dishes came out sooner so we had those first. I like the house chicken over the five flavor duck.

Tried a variety of dishes here from chow fun to claypot to wonton noodle soup. Portion size is decent and the food is good. Service is fine. Overall a good experience. I'd go again.

Big Fun Clay Pot is a staple for my friends and family--our go-to spot whether we're in the mood for a quick snack or a full meal. The food is consistently savory, flavorful, and downright delicious. Honestly, everything here is good. Parking can be tough, but it's absolutely worth it. Our must-order is the salt and pepper combo--my favorite mix is pork, shrimp, and squid. We always add the salt and pepper wings as well. For vegetables, the string beans and garlic eggplant are staples at our table. The rice clay pots are another highlight, especially the black mushroom and chicken--it's hearty, satisfying, and easily a meal on its own (perfect for sharing). The beef chow fun is also excellent. Another standout (not pictured) is the wonton noodle soup. The wontons are plump, flavorful, and really hit the spot. The service is consistently great--everyone is friendly, welcoming, and attentive. The restaurant is also clean, which always makes the experience even better. This is definitely one of those places we keep coming back to.

A good Claypot restaurant that took over the rice roll place in Brookline on beacon Street. I came here for dinner with a friend on a Thursday night. The restaurant wasn't too busy, but there were a few other parties dining in as well. We decided on the Chinese sausage & bacon Claypot and the chicken and mushroom Claypot. The server told us the Claypot is about 2 bowls of rice, so if you could definitely get one to share is you have a bigger group. We also got a small vegetable side dish which was perfect accompaniment to the meal. I also ordered a house made hot soy milk, which wasn't too sweet. The food service didn't take too long to come out, but you might want to let your Claypot sit a little longer to get that crispier bottom. There's sauce on every table to add to the rice since it can be pretty bland without it. It took us a while to flag down a server to get out check and take out boxes. Overall, a nice place to have a small dinner get together with a few friends and catch up.

Pick-2 claypot (chicken w/ black mushroom + spareribs w/ black bean)
    Sierra H.

This place used to have a location in Quincy but just opened up this new location in Brookline at the former location of Baby Cafe. They serve an extensive menu of Cantonese classics. We ordered the pick 2 items claypot with chicken and spareribs, the beef brisket with radish claypot, and the watercress with preserved egg in supreme broth. The beef brisket was piping hot and delicious, though the portion was very small for $26. The watercress was refreshing and another highlight of the meal. The restaurant was pretty packed for a Friday afternoon, but we were able to be seated without any wait. Come with a big group so that you can try more of the items.

The staff was incredibly friendly, and I think I only waited 5 minutes from when I ordered to when the food was ready to take away, so that's pretty amazing! I ordered: Lunch special ($11.45) - The price alone here is incredible. You get a good variety of food and a good amount as well for what feels like pre-pandemic prices. I've seen a lot of lunch specials being raised to more than $15 or so recently, so the fact that this one is only $11.45 is a great deal. It also came in a tupperware with a big section and a small section, and I would have expected the rice to go in the big section and the main to go in the smaller one, but they did the opposite - so you get a really large and nice portion of your main course! The actual food I got was: Crab rangoons - These were nicely fried and the filling had noticeable pieces of imitation crab in it. I also liked the savory flavor, as some places make their filling sweeter, but this was more on the savory and salty side. Very nice crab rangoon. Pork fried rice - This was the iffy one. The flavor was on point, but the rice itself was hard and felt undercooked. It wasn't inedible, but it was definitely noticeable, though covering it in the lobster sauce made up for it. If I had ordered the fried rice alone without a sauce, I would have been pretty disappointed. Shrimp with lobster sauce - This came with 4 shrimps which is pretty standard, but it was an above average lobster sauce in my opinion. It was nice and gooey, salty, and savory, and the shrimp was very meaty. This was definitely the star of the lunch, and I had some leftover to eat with white rice for my next meal! All in all, I'd definitely come back - the price along is a great deal, and I'd like to see if the fried rice would be better on a second time around. The appetizer and main were great tasting, and the service was incredibly fast and friendly. 4/5 stars - I'd absolutely have this again!

Each of the times I remembered were tasty. The ambiance when you arrive is dramatic Chinese music in the background which makes it somewhat difficult to converse with your group. Most recently we arrived with a group of 8 for our 7:30 pm reservation without any issues. All the other tables were full but we noticed the restaurant cleared out after an hour of us being there past the peak hours. They gave us 2 containers of the standalone spicy powder so people could add on as they wanted and the less spice tolerant in our group weren't saddled with the consequences. I tried the following dishes: Lamb & Beef Kebabs - 3 sticks per order I preferred the beef texture and taste over the lamb. BBQ Lamb Ribs - they said this was the only dish that came default spicy but I didn't think it was that spicy. the smoking in the raised wooden container gave it additional flavor. I preferred lamb ribs over the kebabs. Torched Beef - one of the favorites for our table the sauce with it was also super tasty. Big Squid - challenging to cut but they give a lot of pieces and generous portion with a special sauce. Grandma's juicy pork buns - on the small side, topped with black sesame and sauce you can add on the side. it was juicy as advertised. Cucumber salad - refreshing and included peanuts for texture and flavor. Fried tofu - not too memorable but the fried texture was tasty. Bok choy - I enjoyed the sauce spread across this veggie dish. Shiitake & King Oyster Mushroom - these are 2 separate orders but I can't remember which was the skewer and which was on a regular plate. Both were overall tasty. Cauliflower - Another solid veggie option but nothing too memorable if you want to focus mainly on protein. BBQ Bread slice - one of the inauthentic cuisines and it's like French toast Kaoijiu dragon yogurt- I was expecting more dragon fruit flavor so that was a bit disappointing but it still tasted good overall. I am not sure it's worth the $10 dessert price. Overall solid food options and we didn't have any leftovers so it ended up being ~$40-60 per person depending if people also ordered drink/dessert. Really exciting place focused on Northwest Chinese cuisine…read more The signature dish, the hand-pulled beef noodle soup, had a fairly light, but subtle, flavor. The noodles themselves I wish were chewier (got the 'flat' but probably should have gone for 'extra wide'), and perhaps it'd been nice to have some different textures inside the soup (e.g. something crunchy). The scallions in the soup were also too wide, and needed to be sliced more thinly. The beef pancake was quite decent, though the edges didn't have enough beef and the middles had too much beef. The beef was tender, though I might have liked it more flaky. The sauce inside the pancake was somewhat unevenly applied, and a bit too sweet. I wonder if a dipping sauce (maybe a vinegar?) would have helped. The blueberry with mashed yams was fascinating. It was listed under appetizers, and wondered why the dish came out last. But the dish was a bit sweet (naturally!) and so it actually worked as a light modest dessert! The wait staff was spot on after all in putting out the dish last. The stir-fried cabbage dish was beautiful! It was appropriately crunch, yet using good wok hey. The salt level was a bit high, but the spice level was good. Their spice ratings were a bit timid to what I encounter in Szechuan restaurants (the 'regular' level seemed to be more 'mild-regular'). Also, the potato balls in the beef brisket with potato are a sleeper hit. Unfortunately, the dish was mostly beef and not potato haha unusual gripe. We ordered our standard Trader Vic's Mai Tai (not listed on the new menu) and sent it back as it was undrinkable--super sweet with an off-putting after taste. And the interior has changed, too. Lights in the dining room are much brighter, the inclusive flag is no longer in the front window, and the funky art in the bathrooms is gone. The management or something else is definitely different. The food was hit or miss. The sauce was overly thickened glop in both the chicken with garlic and the peppercorn beef special. Saving grace was our server who was apologetic and helpful.
