    Traditional Kung Pao Chicken
    Iris L.

TLDR: Authentic Szechuan style food with a well-earned following. Some dishes are more worth it than others. I'll preface by saying I walked in sans reservation as a party of two on a busy night and they only had outdoor seating. We sat down before sundown but the sun quickly set and it was super chilly. One of the waitresses was kind and offered to bring us some hot water in a tea kettle to warm us up. As for food, I think the vegetarian and chicken dishes are priced pretty reasonably here. I think the fish and pork dish average is more expensive than what I'm used to seeing at a Szechuan style place. It could be that there's a lot more labor or more cult following of certain dishes, but I adjusted the dishes I got accordingly. - Mapo tofu: yummy silky tofu and appropriately spiced. Emphasis on the latter. A good portion! - Kung pao chicken: surprisingly my favorite dish. I usually am not astounded by chicken but this was perfectly savory with a hit of sweetness and spice. The portion size on this was also generous. - Dan Dan noodles: these were good but not outstanding I think. It's a bit of an overwhelming amount of the same taste but I think that's true of the dish and not the restaurant specifically. I'd order this if you had a bigger party and could split it more but for two people it might be too hefty.

Stir-Fry Chicken with Garlic & Black Bean Sauce

The food was good. We got two dishes: Stir-Fry Chicken with Garlic & Black Bean Sauce and the Grilled Sea Bass in a Fiery Broth. We asked the fiery broth to be mild and they obliged, phew. The sea bass was fresh and the broth was very flavorful. The chicken was crispy and the fermented black bean gave it that extra umami taste. Both dishes were really good. We also ordered a side of rice which helped temper the saltiness of the two dishes. Service was great other than the part when we first walked in. We were just told "30 mins" with no other explanation. Then when we were just standing there (and there isn't a heated waiting area), we were told to leave and come back in 30 mins for a table which we did. I'm pretty sure by the time we returned someone else had been given a table before us! But we at least got a table after 30 mins. All this to say, you may have to wait on a weekend afternoon for lunch.

I was visiting from nyc and was surprise about how good the food was! We ordered: -Australian cumin lamb -boiled whole fish -garlic pea leaves -sizzling eggplant with bonito flakes Everything was so so good and tasty. The menu is also very extensive with lots of choices under each category. So whether you're craving vegetables, seafood, or meat, they got you covered. Service was quick and food comes out fast too.

Wow don't know how we had just recently tried this spot. Owner is great, servers are all nice and quick. Our food came out quickly, super hot and cooked perfectly. My favorite dish was the sweet and sour fish fillet. Perfectly light and crispy, sauce is so good. Slap that on some white rice and I'm good for the entire day! Eggplant was soft and cooked perfectly! The lady enjoyed her veggie haha (not my jam) The beef dish was a lighter dish, no heavy sauces or over saturation of anything other than clean flavor. Not spicy, felt like something your friends folks would chef up. Have been back a couple times already! And need more of that fish soon

Was a regular here for over two years. Recently, have been frustrated with the lack of common sense and/or organization by the management--whenever we call to ask for seats, they're never seem to be able to come up with even a common estimate -- told us that we have to come in to figure that out. When coming in, we're still subjected to waiting with them not knowing an estimate. Common sense can go a long way. Different point. Also, whenever you arrive before their cut off time, it is obvious they are upset and have to look at the watch to ascertain whether they would take you or not--perhaps a clear protocol on their part can go a long way and not make customers feel unwelcome. Never again.

Fish Fillet with House Fermented Mustard Green

If you like Sichuan-style Chinese food, Noah's Kitchen is worth the visit! OMG, simply just delicious! I go to Brookline a little too often but I can't help it because most of the restaurants in this area tend to be an absolute hit. The food here is too good. They have been on my list to try for a while now and I'm so glad we decided to come here for dinner. We arrived without making any reservations before hand & the wait for two people was ~5 minutes, not bad at all. It seems like the wait is never too long for most parties because the staff is very efficient! Here is what we ordered: -Fish Filet with House Fermented Mustard Green -Sweet & Sour Fish Filet -Sweet & Sour Eggplant Strip Casserole -2 white rice We honestly wanted to order more lol but glad our server stopped us from more dishes because the portions were actually HUGE! The sweet & sour fish was our favorite. Usually I'm not a fried food person but this was lightly fried and fish was cooked perfectly. We were able to finish this dish and took the rest home for leftovers. I also liked that for the rice, they added some furikake to it! A little different from the usual plain white rice ;) Overall, very good meal & will for sure be back soon!! And if you aren't a spicy food lover, they have plenty of options on their menu that aren't spicy ;) Great spot for family dinners & to bring kids!

It's a really good restaurant and they have everything figured out well. You can tell because there is generally a line and filled with chatter in mandarin. The menu has a wide range of taste: spicy, sour, and sometimes bland (in a good way) to balance the meal out. Very extensive menu with a wide range of food. It also has such a great drink & cocktail program. The waitstaff is very attentive despite it being really busy. The signature Dan Dan noodles & Fish filet w/ house fermented muster greens is some of our favorite dishes tonight. Get some cocktails with your food because you might want something to drink it down with.

Chicken w green chilies (my friend was convinced this was pork and not chicken)
    Tulan K.

I am rating this 4 stars because of the prices are on higher side and the use of oil. The lunch menu is same as dinner and hence doesnt justify the high prices but i still go there once a week. It is a sichuan cuisine place and very nice interior. The service and food are both good. I have had Ma Po Tofu, cabbage casserole, Cauliflower casserole, ginger chicken, chicken sauteed with green chilies, fish in spicy broth and few other items and all of them have been good . I have always mostly gone for lunch and cannot say anything about dinner service. One other reason for one less star is they do put way too much oil in their than necessary even by sichuan standard. This makes it not only unhealthy to eat but takes away from the good flavors. Even after insisting while ordering it sort of fall on deaf ears as they will still just put that much oil If they limit use of the oil to standard qty it would be great fun to enjoy it without too much worry of it being so unhealthy.

    Chili Oil Grass Fish Fillet
    Kevin W.

Flavor for the chili oil fish and the special beef dish bold, balanced, and tasted pretty traditional. However, we tried the grass fish which I was personally not a fan of; get the regular fish if you prefer the soft texture of fish rather than a chewy texture between fish and squid. While the food was good and offered a wide selection of variety, you could probably find similar quality restaurants at a slightly lower price

This place is conveniently located near Brookline Village T stop. It's a good place for spicy food and waiters were pretty nice, didn't have any issues walking in the day after Valentine's Day. My favorite was the fish filet with mustard greens, twice cooked pork, and cauliflower. The Dan Dan noodles was also pretty yummy though it's not the traditional kind and is more soupy.

This was my first time trying Noah's Kitchen on the recommendation of a good friend and I was very pleased with the food and service. The menu is actually quite large, and there were many tasty options to choose from. I usually think if the menu is large, the quality of the food may not be consistently good, but all of the dishes here were great. I personally recommend the eggplant and green beans, tomato dish soup, pork shoulder and fried gluten (you should try it, it's better than it sounds and tastes like meat/tofu!). The service was also good, Rachel was very personable and gave us great food recommendations because she doesn't like spicy. The ambiance was cozy, and the decorations and menus are so cute! I think we came at a good time as well, a late lunch on a weekday, so we had a great experience with timing and parking. The food came out VERY quick, like it felt like less than 5 minutes. Overall we had a lovely time at Noah's, would definitely come back. There was plenty of parking, and leftovers to take home as well.

TLDR: A small Chinese restaurant in Brookline that felt more "upscale" (while still casual) than your average, no-frills Asian establishment. All our dishes either came in a pool of oil or looked like they had been prepared with a lot of oil. That being said, the pickled green fish fillet was one of the best we've ever had. If you come at a busy time, definitely make reservations ahead of time and be prepared to allot time for street parking. ------ FOOD: 1. Pickled Green Fish Fillet (5/5): We frequently dine at a Michelin rated restaurant known for this dish in CA, and even we thought Noah's Kitchen had a superior version. This was a generous serving of fish fillet, glass noodles, and all the typical components of this dish. Flavor was perfectly sour and the fish was super tender. 2. Szechuan Style Beef in Spicy Broth (4.5/5): Super flavorful and extremely tender beef pieces over a bed of napa cabbage. Only reason it's not 5/5 is because it felt like the broth had a little too much oil for my liking. 3. Sauteed Organic Cauliflower (4/5): Surprisingly extremely flavorful and came with a HEAVY amount of deep fried garlic and shallot slices. Those were addicting to eat but they gave way more than most people would realistically eat. 4. Sliced Beef and Beef Tripe with Szechuan Peppercorn (3/5): The classic Szechuan specialty dish. Not bad but was not authentic according to my Asian parents. The beef slices were drowning in a pool of oil, which I've never seen before for this dish. 5. Dan Dan Noodles (2/5): Similarly, why were these noodles swimming in oil? Dan dan noodles are usually dry noodles, not soup noodles, so we were surprised to see this. Also, unfortunately, the sauce itself didn't have a strong flavor so the dish overall was surprisingly bland. Rice was a single serving and was actually pretty good! Plus had some furikake on top which was a nice touch. ------ ENVIRONMENT / AMBIANCE: * Not your typical no-frills Chinese restaurant, which I appreciated! Nicer, cleaner, more modern dining area * Not a very large restaurant and usually has a waitlist for lunch and dinner so would highly recommend making reservations ahead of time * Lots of street parking outside but whether you can find a spot nearby is up to your luck ------ SERVICE: * All of our dishes came out alarmingly fast -- to the point where the only explanation seemed like we got reheated leftovers or pre-papered dishes? * Got some attitude from our waiter when we asked for some recommendations (since the menu is huge), but otherwise, service was fine

Mixed Pea Leaves in Chickpea Broth (back) and beef with Stir-fry Beef with Mix Mushroom and Black Pepper (front)
    Sierra H.

Noah's kitchen is a staple and one of our go-to Chinese restaurants in the Boston area. They get quite busy at nighttime but they take reservations. Our favorites are the steamed whole fish with spicy peppercorns and the mixed pea leaves with chickpea broth. The fish is super saucy and flavorful while the chickpea soup is so comforting and hearty. Most recently we also tried the stir fried beef with mushrooms and black pepper sauce which was delicious and loaded with lots of different types of mushrooms. Overall, this a great, quaint spot that's perfect for a quick meal or a night out with a larger group.

We eventually were able to get in, there is a small space to wait with snacks though. Once our table was almost ready the host allowed us to order and once sat it came almost right away. We ordered the la-xi chicken with less spice, this has small crispy chicken pieces and lot of peppers, had to go in and pick out the little pieces. Truthfully wish it was less pepper and more chicken especially $23.95. The mapo tofu was delicious the perfect numbing sensation that I love. A must try dish was the fish fillet with crispy rice. This was $34 but it is perfect for cold day. They bring this dish out pour the soup on top and let it boil until the crispy gets cooked. We got the green beans as well, pretty standard nothing special. We got a little discount as well, I think for a late night special. The entire meal came with tea and the restaurant had calm setting with wooden interior

Disappointing Service & Poor Seating Arrangement…read more Extremely disappointed with our experience here. I made a reservation for 6 people One Month in advance (in fact, today is my birthday) expecting a comfortable dining setup for my group. However, upon arrival, we were squeezed into a table clearly designed for 4 people. When we pointed this out, the staff insisted it was a '6-person table' and refused to move us to the larger tables available, claiming those were reserved for 7-8 people. This is inconsistent and unprofessional, as we have been seated at those larger tables with a group of 6 before. What's the point of making a reservation so far in advance if the restaurant can't provide adequate seating? The lack of flexibility and the dismissive attitude of the staff ruined our evening. For a place like Mountain House, I expected much better service. Will not be coming back anytime soon."

They sat us (2) at the table nearest to the kitchen/front desk/bathroom, and I saw that there were open tables further towards the window. So I asked if we can sit by the window instead. Those tables are bigger and seats 4 people. The waitress turns to another worker and tells her in Chinese that we wanted to sit by the window in which this worker responds with "两个人还想坐窗边" (Two people and they want to sit by the window seat?!) in a sassy tone and then she scoffs. Mind you, this whole time we've only spoken in English but I am fluent in Chinese so I understood everything. The waitress turns back to us and just shakes her head no without any explanation. At that point, I was just like okay, they probably expects the restaurant to get busy and wants to keep the tables open. But guess what, there's literally two people sitting by the window who happens to be Chinese aunties and they were chatting it up with the waitresses and being all friendly. It was giving special treatment. The whole time we were there, they would put food down on our table and not even acknowledge us even when we would say thank you. It's almost like "here damn" when they put our food down. No eye contact, no smile, no your welcome, no "enjoy your food". And the whole time, I couldn't figure out who's actually our server because random people would give us the food and fill our water. And the whole time, that window seat was open. So I'm genuinely so confused. And it ruined my mood for the rest of the meal. Now for the food, it was what you'd expect, packed with flavor and spices. Though the dry pot was very salty and it was very confusing ordering it because it doesn't really say if it comes with vegetables and we also couldn't order any vegetables using the 3 meat option. The egg plants were really good. The soup dumplings were alright, a little dry and greasy for my liking. The skewers were my favorite. The chili wontons were flavorful, I love the sauce, but the wontons themselves taste kind of old/not fresh. We wouldn't come back again just because the food is not unique, you can find it at any Chinese restaurant like mountain house down the street. The service however seemed like it's consistently bad seeing the other reviews. And if you're going to expect a 15% minimum tip then at least act like you like your job and serve your customers with a good attitude.

Only downside was the eggplant wasn't chopped into smaller pieces so you either have to cut it yourself or bite pieces off, which can be messy with all the sauce. -Mapo Tofu, 6.5/10: Tofu wasn't the silken tofu kind that I personally enjoy more, it was the tougher type. Flavor was more subtle tha desired and there was virtually no spice. I've been here before for drinks and remember them being good/unique! Will be back to try more drinks next time :)

I've enjoyed coming here for years, and it's always good and often great...but, something has…read moresurely changed and doubt I'll be returning any time soon. I read somewhere that they changed over their staff and completely obliterated their previous (awesome!) cocktail program. Our server confirmed that last November they started a new cocktail menu. We ordered our standard Trader Vic's Mai Tai (not listed on the new menu) and sent it back as it was undrinkable--super sweet with an off-putting after taste. And the interior has changed, too. Lights in the dining room are much brighter, the inclusive flag is no longer in the front window, and the funky art in the bathrooms is gone. The management or something else is definitely different. The food was hit or miss. The sauce was overly thickened glop in both the chicken with garlic and the peppercorn beef special. Saving grace was our server who was apologetic and helpful.

They were super juicy and hot when we got them. They have some high tops and regular tables. The people there were super nice! You order through your phone there. The service was very quick! Bobo Chicken in Green Pepper Oil藤味缽缽雞: The best dish of the meal. The broth was very refreshing, mainly savory, umami, and fragrant, with only a slight numbing spiciness. It was also served cool, making it very appetizing. The chicken was thick and tender, and the other vegetables were fresh and flavorful. Mouthwatering Chicken in Chili Sauce口水雞: The only dish I ordered, and it's my favorite among Sichuan dishes. Very satisfying. The chicken was tender, and the chili oil was fragrant but not spicy. Steamed Pork Soup Dumplings with Crab Meat蟹粉小籠包, Steamed Pork Soup Dumplings豬肉小籠包: Like Fuchunju富春居, the soup dumplings had a slightly dry and hard skin, not as good as Zoe's風味亭. However, the soup was rich, the filling was tender, and the seasoning was umami, so it was still very good. It even came with ginger slices, which was a thoughtful touch! Pork Dumplings in Chengdu Zhong Sauce鍾水餃: I'd forgotten the Zhong Dumplings I had in Chengdu ten years ago, but I really liked these. The rich, sweet aroma of brown sugar was incredibly appealing. Shanghai Vegetable and Pork Wonton Soup上海菜肉大餛飩: The broth was light and flavorful, the meat filling firm and plump, with a satisfyingly coarse texture and a rich meaty aroma. A pleasant surprise. Sichuan Dan Dan Noodles四川擔擔麵: The first bite was good, the sesame sauce was very fragrant. But it got spicier and spicier, and eventually I couldn't stand it anymore... Chinese Wood Ear Mushroom Salad涼拌木耳: Bland and tasteless. Steamed Crystal Shrimp Dumplings水晶蝦餃: My friend ordered these. Extremely poor quality frozen products, the skin was mushy and the filling was soft--complete garbage.
