One of my favorite little lunch spots in the area. Simple, straightforward, no BS kinda casual spot with decently priced lunch specials and an acceptable culinary repertoire to back it all up. In fact, ever since the other Chinese spot changed ownership, I entirely switched to eating here whenever I want a quick sit down Chinese meal. The food is good. It comes out pretty fast. It's done pretty well. And the best part, it just doesn't remotely hurt the wallet. Even being a regular, I'm still amused at how the service is so stereotypical Chinese in the way that I'm just another soul coming in to be fed and not remembered or acknowledged. Mind you, I'm here a LOT and am usually the only one sitting there eating while delivery people repeatedly come and go. Anyways, two reasons why I'm unable to give them 5 stars. First, the tap water they serve...tastes like @#$%. I don't know what it is but I've actually started bringing my own water bottle (or just ordered a soda). Two, the steamed rice is inconsistent. Half the time, it's perfect. The other half...is wet and mushy (I want to say a reheat but isn't that just such a faux pax in Chinese cuisine?). I've been looking for a place to replace my beloved Mary Chung. One of our favorite Mary Chung dishes was Dun Dun Noodles, very spicy noodles with peanut sauce. When I saw "Dan Dan Noodles" on Sichuan Cuisine's menu, I thought this might be the place. The noodles were good - spicy - no peanut sauce. I added my own peanut sauce and they were perfect. Hot & Sour Soup was excellent. Peking Ravioli were a disappointment - flavorless, as was the accompanying ginger sauce. Not the restaurant's fault at all, but they use GrubHub for delivery - I put very specific instructions as to where to leave the order. 30 minutes after it should have arrived, my neighbor delivered it. It had been sitting on their porch for who knows how long in 15 degree weather. Everything was cold. All in all - this place is okay, but won't be the replacement for Mary Chung. read more

Really impressed with the most recent offerings from this local Sichuan establishment. The fish stew with sour cabbage was a hit, a nice blend off Mala flavor, other spices, and broth. The flavor of the pickled veggies was focused and appealing. Something on special was the pork with dried bean curd and fresh bamboo shoots. The dish was well seasoned and the bamboo was particularly tender. The dried lotus slices in a Mala stir fry was excellent. It was nice to have crispy thin slices of lotus steeped in a rich and spicy Mala flavor. The appetizers were intriguing and delicious. The tendon flank and tripe slices were nicely flavored. There is a garlic richness that gently added to the dish. Also the slicing work on the green onions was very good. Finally the cellophane noodle dish with spicy sauce was really neat. I'd never had it before: it tasted a bit like gelatin. It really works well as a cold appetizer. In general I'd tone down the salt levels, especially of the main courses. That bacon cauliflower in chili oil though!! This place was a nice scrumptious surprise! My bf and I were craving Chinese food and dined here on a Sunday night. The restaurant located in Watertown square is nice and cozy with plenty of small tables. The nice waitress gave us time to look through their lengthy menu. It was really hard to decide since there are so many options but we finally decided on their pork in sweet soy sauce, scallion pancakes with beef their cauliflower and fried rice. The food came out nice and hot and packed with tons of flavor! Everything tasted fresh and cooked to perfection! To our surprise the cauliflower had big chunks of bacon and it was bathed in chili oil! YUM! The pork in soy sauce was also very good. The pork was tender and flavorful and the chunks of cucumber tasted fresh and were nice and crunchy. The scallion pancakes almost stole the spotlight from the cauliflower because the actual pancake dough tasted like a crunchy fried wonton! Yes! I love wontons! Our new favorite Sichuan restaurant near Boston!!! I highly recommend the cumin beef; my friend also loves the twice cooked pork. But really, everything we've tried has been super flavorful and tasty! Most dishes are spicy, so come prepared. The inside looks very clean and new. Had the chengdu chicken, crispy pork, noodles, crab rangoons, and scallion pancakes. Chengdu spicy chicken was literally inedible. The pieces of chicken were cut so small and overcooked that it felt like my teeth were going to shatter trying to chew it. The noodles are the spiciest thing I've ever eaten in my life. We didn't get the crispy pork, instead we received a soggy bacon dish that had decent flavor. Crab rangoons and scallion pancakes were very good, but not good enough to erase the disappointment of the other dishes. Covid-19 review! I am so happy that Sichuan Cuisine is now on Uber Eats. Before (covid), I had to call the restaurant and find its menu online to place the order. Not too convenient. I have ordered twice already. The first time I ordered, it came with the free cabbage as an appetizer! I was so happy. However, there was no cabbage the second time. Oh no! The first time I got mapo tofu, Yangzhou fried rice, sichuan twice cooked pork, and bean noodle with spicy chili oil sauce. The second time I got orange chicken, shredded pork with garlic sauce, chicken with eggplant, and bean noodle with spicy chili oil sauce. I really like the bean noodle with spicy chili oil sauce. It is super super spicy. Even with that, make sure you eat it in one setting, because the leftover does not taste as fresh/good. I wouldn't necessarily order chicken with eggplant again. It is just too greasy and not much flavor to it. Next time I'd go with eggplant in garlic sauce. The Yangzhou fried rice is really good, but expensive. I'd only order it occasionally to switch up with regular rice. And note that you have to order rice as a side and pay for it. They don't give you "free" rice. By the way, they make REALLY good orange chicken here. For a restaurant that offers authentic Chinese food, that is such a pleasant surprise that you can get good orange chicken here. And yes, their dishes are really greasy in general. I normally use a paper towel to dab/get the grease off the food before I eat. Best dry pot I've had in Massachusetts. I ordered "very hot" black fungus, fish tofu, tofu skin, lotus root, and string beans and I ate the whole thing in one sitting. Absolutely DELICIOUS and packed full of flavor. It may look oily, but there's so many complex, beautiful flavors cooked in. I really love that they have the perfect balance of spicy and vinegar-y, not sweet at all for us spicy lovers. Pricey but absolutely worthwhile. I also enjoyed my bowl of beef noodle soup, but I should've asked for it to be extra spicy because they do not skimp on peppercorns. Takeout was perfect - food was on time and packaged very nicely. I've gotten the Lunch Menu when I worked in the area in the past, and the portions are more than enough for dinner as well. All the stir fries have an even saute, and while they offer American Style Chinese food, the authentic cuisine is a treat to be savored. The Orange Chicken is amazing btw. They leave dried orange rinds in the batter sauce to give it an extra citrusy kick. Skip the Allston FOB over priced rip-offs. First of all, I love that they said on their website, "Americanized Chinese? We refuse!". That's awesome because I can totally relate to it w/ my restaurant. Lol. It's hard to cater to everyone's taste so the message and the execution is clear. I ordered dan dan mein, noodles w/ longhorn pepper w/ shredded beef (my fave!!), shredded pork w/ dry bean curd (sooo good and reminded me of my mother-in-law's cooking), beef and tripe in chili oil, wonton in chili oil (it's a clear numbing chili oil), and chengdu crispy spicy chicken. All of these dishes were very tasty, full burst of flavors and had just the right amount of saltiness that you just want to eat more. It's not overly salty like some Sichuan places that I have been to and it has that good wok toss flavors. Absolutely an amazing experience here at Sichuan Cuisine. I only wish we could have dined in here to taste their fabulous food even quicker! These days with COVID most of the restaurants are forced to raise their prices but very surprisingly Sichuan Cuisine's are quite fair and actually lower than my expectations when I saw how big the entree boxes are! Each dish we tried were really authentic Sichuan flavor and making me to want more haha. Especially the fried pork intestine is such a good mix with rice given how spicy it can gets. You definitely would have to have some spiciness tolerance to really enjoy their offerings as I would say 60-80% of their dishes are at least a bit spicy. The ordering process over the phone was quick and easy and they are protecting their workers and patrons well by just allowing front door pick ups. I wanted to love & support this new-ish local resto. I bought a spicy eggplant dish & scallion pancakes. The fragrance from the shop was divine & the guy at the front was nice, too. But the pancakes had no real flavor & no obvious scallions, while the dipping sauce was flavorless. Like brown water. Then the stir fried eggplant had so much oil, I couldn't eat it. $18 for bad food. There's no excuse for bad food!! I poured out many tablespoons of oil. Then,Let it drain for 2 days. We came here for a late lunch around 3pm this past Sunday. A few tables occupied out of the about a dozen. This place is small but a large party of 8 was there with combined tables. These Szechuan joints are popping up everywhere in the greater boston area and I'm loving it. If you're a fan of spicy and love authentic Chinese cuisine, then try this place. We ordered the lamb stew spine stew. Yeah, I said spine. No it's not a scene out of the predator. Think of it like Jamaican ox tail. If you can't handle these parts, grow out of your kraft Mac and cheese blue box. Our appetizer was the thousand year old duck egg with sauté sweet peppers with a hint of red peppers. The traditional cold thinly sliced beef tendon dish was excellent and wasn't super salted like most places. Our other main dish was a fish in chili stew, fresh as fish can be, deep fried then into a melody of spices. I would definitely return here again next time I'm craving authentic Szechuan foods. The mala dry pot had very little meat (or anything) and was about $20...so small that I almost wanted to ask the server why the dish has so little food.
