    46. Taiwaness Style Pan Fried Rice Noodle with Pork

Falsely advertised as Taiwanese food. Everything here other than 2-3 items are not Taiwanese. Much better options elsewhere around.

I came here for dinner with three friends, and as someone who just spent three months in Taiwan, the food didn't taste very authentic. Some dishes were enjoyable, like the the salt and pepper pork chop, but overall it didn't feel worth the price. The customer service was friendly and attentive but I probably wouldn't return for the food alone.

Visiting the area and was craving Asian cuisine. Mu Lan's dishes were delicious, with plenty of vegetarian options. We ordered the mixed vegetable, spicy eggplant, and Taiwanese rice noodles with pork. All nicely flavored. Food came out hot and quick.

KUDOS to the staff for providing supreme quality customer service! Thank God for them! We ordered braised pork shank, Taiwan chow main, and eggplant with basil. The ambiance was quiet! I highly recommend all to come and visit to support this local business!

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the Boston Area. Me and my friends visit MuLan atleast a few times a month! Their crispy chicken in chilli sauce is just amazing! The MuLan fish is very tasty. The Lunch specials are a great value for money. The service is great too.

Authentic Taiwanese food in Cambridge! The flavors are great and the pricing is more than fair for the quality you get. We ordered a noodle dish, a meat dish, and a veggie, and it was the perfect combo - each dish well-executed, flavorful, and comforting. They serve hot tea as well. That said, this place gets busy--and for good reason. Expect a long wait on Fri/weekends, but the steady flow of takeout orders and packed tables are clear signs that people know where to find good food. The service is efficient despite the rush, and the atmosphere is lively. Already looking forward to my next visit!

I came here with my family to try a Taiwanese restaurant while visiting Boston. My son loved the braised pork dish. All the dishes tasted good to me. My husband had a higher standard, he said it was ok and that he wouldn't come back. My son and I would come back. The waiter was very attentive to us, great service. The restaurant was pretty crowded when we left. Nice atmosphere.

Taiwanese food in Cambridge! I only found this spot because it was recommended by a few friends who grew up in Taiwan (if that tells you anything). Really good spot for family style and/or a casual, special occasion and their seating can easily take large groups. Most dishes are made to be shared, and ordering one per person is usually more than enough. Atmosphere is casual; aesthetic is white table cloths and round tables w/ lazy Susans type beat. It's tucked away in the Cambridge suburbs, so it can be a little bit of a trip if coming from the city - but it's worth it. The place usually gets packed if you try to go at an average dinner time, but service is relatively fast once you're seated. Some dishes I really enjoy: the Mu Lan Fish (fish is cooked tender, and swims in a really yummy sauce with a little bit of spicy), Scallion Pancake with Beef (one of my favorite items to order if a place offers it; they give a generous portion of beef here), the Eggplant with Basil (can never go wrong with this one, the eggplant is so soft and saucy), and the Homestyle Chicken (it's one of their cold appetizers, the chicken is very simply-prepared, tender, and not too gamey, and comes quick).

Ordered takeout. Food was ready in 10 minutes. Super fast - House duck: I ordered the half duck and was disappointed. The parts were given were full of fat and some of them were not edible - I had to throw those away - squash with yam: pretty bland flavor

Home away from home. When you moved to a new city, you settled in first, and then find an ideal Chinese restaurant caters to your taste. And Mulan is it. The service staff were fast and friendly, and the food was delicious. At 5:30pm on the Saturday we went, it was bustling already. I should note that most of the patrons were Asian (a good sign). Tea and a small plate of kimchi cabbage were served upon arrival. But rice doesn't come with entrees.

Love the smoked duck here and the fried rice. Really solid authentic Taiwanese restaurant. Would recommend coming here with a large group and then eating family style. They cook the food relatively fast and have good service.

Came with a larger party of 7 for a team dinner - we called ahead for reservations, so there was a round table set aside for us; but around 6pm on Sunday, there were still a decent number of smaller tables/booths available. We ordered a lot (!) of food, pictured, but I will just detail some of the highlights. For appetisers we loved the homestyle spiced chicken and the spiced beef. I really liked how the natural flavour of the chicken was brought out by the light seasoning, and similarly the beef was so nicely cooked with a rich aroma. The chicken with string beans were a particular treat - string beans were nicely crispy and the chicken was tender and juicy. I don't know what the brown sauce is in the dish name but that was Quite good, too. Other than that, other high points included the Mulan fish (which was acceptably spicy, but not too much) and beef with leek wrapped in pancakes (warning: includes cilantro). Price was a tad high but nothing too surprising nowadays. I think overall I had a great meal here and I'd love to come again to try some of there other dishes (especially for lunch specials!)

We got the Szechuan cold noodle ($10.95), Szechuan style string beans with pork ($13.95), cumin lamb ($19.95), and a bowl of rice ($1.85) to share. The one who took our order warned us that the dishes would be spicy but they were honestly okay! If you can handle Shin ramen or hot Cheetos then the dishes are even milder. The cold noodles were nice and chewy and soaked in chili oil. I wouldn't have minded if they were more garlicky. The sauce had a nice balance between sweet, sour, and savory. The string beans were fresh and had a pretty mild flavor to them with just the right amount of salt. There wasn't a lot of pork in the dish. I loved the flavor of the cumin lamb although it was on the greasy side. Each piece of lamb was so tender and packed with smoky cumin flavor! This was probably the spiciest dish of all of them and it went perfectly with rice. The lunch specials seem like a very good deal especially since food prices have increased so much recently.

For appetizers, I got the vegetarian spring roll and scallion pancakes. Both were delicious, and they were not excessively greasy, a problem I often find in these items. I ordered four vegetarian main courses: Chinese Eggplant with Basil, Spicy Broccoli with garlic sauce, sauteed lotus root with black fungus, and Kung Pao tofu. The vegetables were all well seasoned and delicious, but the kung pao tofu was my favorite dish of the night. The tofu was crispy on the outside and slightly firm but moist on the inside. And the sauce complemented the rest of the dish well. Our total bill was around $100. I will absolutely visit Cilantro again, and I recommend it for take out!

This, sadly, was in no small part due to the concerningly low rating that Changsho holds on this platform. This changed in November 2025. If you penetrate the brutal but not brutalist concrete building on the side of Mass Ave, you find yourself in a space that is clean and colorful, yet you find yourself with a weak sense of something being slightly off. An indoor waterfall cascades to your right. A sense of vague unease comes from the bowels of your soul. For me, the aesthetic brought me back to Orchid in Garden City, NY, which I visited a number of times in my childhood. Changsho is a Cambridge staple (allegedly from 1977) that recalls a lost style of Chinese restaurant in the US. Put simply, it's as if the restaurant were designed to give the locals a taste of "The Orient" in a way that would also greatly appeal to the locals. As a result, you have wood-paneled walls, large ceramic vases, East Asian instruments, and other such decor throughout the venue. There is surely more that can be said in this respect, but I shall stop here. That aside, I can now move to the food. I sampled several items, including a formosa crispy chicken, streamed edamame dumplings, vegetable spring rolls, and dry cooked string beans. The chicken was salty, as could have been expected, but I was very pleased overall with the food. The green beans in particular were flavorful and delicious, coated in a sumptuous ointment-like sauce. I read several reviews about evil and vile service at Changsho. This was not at all my experience. The wait staff were some of the friendliest people I met this month, and the food emerged quickly to be readily shoved down our eager gullets. The restaurant is not cheap, but not extraordinarily expensive -- it is in line with what you would expect for a slightly nicer (but not fancy) sit-down dinner.
