    Original sauerkraut fish
    Lilian Z.

Had the original sauerkraut fish and it was amazing! The soup was so flavorful and the fish was nicely cooked. Portions are pretty large for the price and the restaurant is quite clean inside. Staff are nice and good comes out decently fast. This is one of my favorite spots to go in Boston for comfort food and I'll definitely be back soon!

Solid basement Chinatown location for fish. Tomato base was creamy and sweet. Pretty much empty store when we went and the service was quick because no one else was there. The food was yummy and pretty standard, but hit the spot. I'd go again if I was craving sauerkraut fish.

Hidden Chinatown gem with delicious fish at a reasonable price! They have many different dishes with non-fish options, but their main sauerkraut fish is a must try. The servers are also very kind and attentive. I definitely will be coming here more often!

When we saw this place opened recently on little red book, we changed our original plan and went here instead. I have always enjoyed sauerkraut whenever I visited china so I was excited to see one open in Boston. Service was pretty quick and everyone was very nice. We went around 4pm which gave us a nice environment. We ordered B1 and substituted the slice fish to the crispy grass crap. It had a nice crunch to it and wasn't too spicy. We also got the lemon pepper chicken which was made fresh giving it a tender and flavorful taste. The waitress was very nice and gave me a refreshing green tea drink. I would like to try other dishes in the future!

Green Sichuan peppercorn pickled fish soup with rice

In the basement of the "food court" where Friendship BBQ used to be. Another "sauerkraut" (referencing Chinese pickled cabbage) fish soup/stew spot that has popped up. It's a chain that has made its way to Boston and is a no frills casual ambience spot. Service was quick as there weren't many customers as I came for an early dinner around 5pm. I ordered the green Sichuan peppercorn soup which was flavorful but not very spicy at all. It came with a side rice and you have the option to upgrade the fish to Snakefish, but I didn't choose that since I don't particularly like that fish. I paid cash and the server told me I could get an iced plum tea on the house due to the cash. The plum tea had a nice flavor and was just a little too sweet for me (but in general not overly sweet). I would go again to try out some of their other flavors, overall I think it's a good bang for your buck but not the best I've had and I enjoyed the efficiency of the servers and the music wasn't too loud.

Shanghai Classic Pork Pan-Fried Buns上海生煎饅頭: I was instantly hooked! It's hard to imagine finding such good pan-fried buns in the US. Almost every table ordered them, so they were all freshly made, piping hot. The bun was made with unleavened dough, making it chewy and refreshing, with a light, crispy bottom--not oily or hard. The meat filling was substantial and tender, with plenty of broth (see picture). It was sweeter than salty, incredibly umami. The chili oil was also very fragrant, and dipping it in Zhenjiang vinegar enhanced the flavor and cut through the greasiness. Shredded Pork & Preserved Vegetable Noodle Soup雪菜肉絲麵: The noodles were thin and round, with a soft, mushy texture. While the noodles were clearly machine-made, this isn't a problem in the Yangtze River Delta region; the issue was likely overcooking. The shredded pork were well-stirred, with tender meat, but the noodles lacked flavor. They had to be eaten with the pickled mustard greens雪菜 to be slightly salty, and the umami flavor was severely diluted. The tableware is all disposable, and tipping is not mandatory. It's quite affordable.

It's small and no frills but very clean, and the staff were helpful and patient, and I appreciate the lack of harsh cleaner scents that dominate so many otherwise good restaurants. My mom typically requires more "ambience" when dining out but will always happily go here. I don't live in the area or would be going regularly, but stop at least once whenever I'm back in the area. We also have food allergies, which can be tricky for eating out, but they clearly knew their ingredients and cooking processes well so we felt safe eating the food.

Limited street parking out front, but there are more street metered parking on the side street (next to the green line). The restaurant is much smaller than the Weymouth location, and the menu selection is also different. The server asked me to scan the QR code on the table for the menu, so I'm not sure if they have a paper menu. You can place the order directly via the QR code. I requested one dish to be non-spicy, and they were able to accommodate that. The only thing was that both dishes were a little bit too salty than my liking. I came here during a weekday lunch, and it wasn't super busy. I would return again.

Beef and tripe was very well seasoned and no weird taste at all. The duck blood is the best duck blood in Boston, very tender and delicious. Even though the restaurant was super super busy, a lot of people waiting for a seat, and there was only one server, a very friendly man, we had water refilled and all the dishes arrived quickly. The service was great. Because the food was so good, many people willing to wait for a seat. I love the small busy restaurant kind of ambience. I will definitely go back soon!
