This place was a disaster for me and my party of 8. We were the only ones in the entire restaurant at noon on a Saturday, which should have been a clue. Our server attempted to strong arm us into ordering the "cook your own food" option, but due to dietary restrictions, we asked to order off the menu, instead. She was NOT happy about this. In fact, she was SO not happy about this that she brought us ONE menu that we had to share at our table. That has never happened to me at any restaurant in my entire life.
Our party includes adventurous eaters as well as admittedly pickier ones. As for myself, I was trying to order something with more veggies and less meat and preferably low-carb. Definitely no beef and no rice. So yes, I'm a little bit picky about what I eat, but not demanding or difficult, and I'm able to easily eat at every other restaurant I've EVER been to, on 5 different continents. So I was thinking along the lines of a veggie bowl of some sort with some shrimp or fish thrown on top. No luck.
Ordering was difficult. Can I have the such-and-such bowl with no rice mixed in? No. Can I have this dish, but with shrimp instead of beef? No. Can I have this dish, but without the sauce? No. Can I have the shrimp whatever without the noodles? No. I don't eat beef. Can I please have this with fish instead? No. Speaking to the server was made even more difficult because of the blaring televisions and music. We asked to have the music turned down, but they said they couldn't because the other patrons were watching t.v. Reader, there was literally nobody else in the restaurant. Only one other table was occupied during our time there, and they came in near the end of our meal.
While I was trying to decide what I could eat at this place, our server brought us some complimentary pickled vegetables and kimchi, which were AMAZING. Can I just pay for a huge plate of pickled vegetables and kimchi? No.
Okay, I'll have the gimbap (seaweed rolls). Perfect, the server says. She then returns 15 minutes later to tell me they are all out of those ingredients.
Can I please just have a plate of shrimp? I'll pay whatever you want, just bring me like 5 cooked shrimp on a plate? No, you can't have that unless you want to order the buffet.
Honestly, this is the point where I would probably just have said, "Let me pay for my drink and I'll go", except I was with a large group. I ended up with a plate of sweet potato fries.
They were really good, almost good enough for the 50-minute wait it took to bring them to me.
We were at the restaurant for 2 1/2 hours, mostly...waiting. Waiting for drinks, waiting for food, waiting for checks...
In sum, this is not the place to go if you have allergies, dietary restrictions, or strong food preferences. Fair enough. Adventurous eaters would definitely have more fun here than I did. Big eaters will appreciate the "all you can eat" options. But be prepared for surly service, blaring music and television, and LONG waits. read more
