I came to Sizzle Korean BBQ in Phoenix because of its excellent Yelp reviews, and I can definitely see why people enjoy the atmosphere. It's located in an outdoor shopping center, and although the restaurant is on the smaller side, the interior design and decor reminded me of many of the Korean BBQ restaurants back home in California. It felt cozy and authentic. This is not an all-you-can-eat restaurant. We ordered the Small Beef Combo, 2 side of rice, Korean dumplings, and the strawberry basil lemonade. The only unlimited items are the traditional Korean side dishes. We were served five different banchan along with two salads. While they didn't bring every available side dish, the ones we received were actually very good. Unfortunately, the service is what ruined the experience for me. Our server, Huy, was also serving my friends' family seated at the table next to us. They had ordered the same Small Beef Combo. When Huy started grilling our brisket, he accidentally dropped one of our slices of meat onto the floor. He paused, clearly noticed it, and so did everyone at our table. However, there was no apology, no acknowledgment, and no offer to replace the piece. He simply continued cooking as if nothing had happened. A few moments later, he placed a Prime Ribeye on our grill. I told him we hadn't ordered that cut--it belonged to my friends' table. He then picked up the entire plate of raw ribeye from our grill and transferred it to their table. Even though they were our friends sitting right next to us, that didn't seem like proper food handling. When I mentioned the mix-up, he simply said the kitchen had made a mistake. Again, there was no apology. Toward the end of the meal, it seemed like Huy realized I was unhappy, but he never addressed either incident. The missing piece of brisket wasn't a significant financial loss, and the food itself was good. My disappointment was with the service. Mistakes happen in every restaurant. What matters is acknowledging them, apologizing, and making a reasonable effort to make things right. A simple apology and replacing the dropped piece of meat would have completely changed my impression. Because of the service, I don't plan on returning, which is unfortunate because the food and atmosphere were otherwise enjoyable. read more

This place used to be rated 5 stars The prices now are just absolutely price gouging. $70 galbi is not worth it when you can eat ribeye at ocean 44 for similar. Galbi used to be $45 pre covid. Then they raised it to $65 which was egregious. Now they raised it again to $70. I have eaten all over the world and have never seen galbi priced this high. The reason I am rating it 1 star is because of the pure greed from the owners. I asked to speak to the owner one time and they didn't even have the courtesy to come over. We also got one cup of rice (it's not free like it is at other KBBQ places; it costs $2) and a strawberry bing soo (Korean shaved ice). This large beef combo is supposed to feed 3-4 people. Our whole bill cost $200.47. Note that this meal didn't do a good job of making me full. Thus, their description of saying that this combo feeds 3-4 people is categorically false. Admittedly, the meats are slightly better than AYCE places, but not good enough to be spending $100 on it. The service was very amiable and the whole place was clean. Every time I come here the portion keeps getting smaller and smaller and not to mention the quality of the meat has declined tremendously. The server was very attentive and engaging but when you pay extra $$ to taste great quality meat and you get chewy, thick, and hard chadol which is supposed to be thinly sliced brisket you kinda think if they're cutting cost by buying cheaper meat. As my first Korean BBQ experience in Arizona, it did me proud. First, the decor is fantastic. It could have easily passed as a Michelin restaurant in a New York Four Seasons hotel, or at the Aria in Vegas. It was simply.... cool AF. The food presentation and layout also delivers. Someone clearly spent time with the visual experience. This is what I call a restaurant designed for the 'Gram. However, a couple things that didn't quite full send. First, the service is incredibly slow. Staff was friendly, but "nice" doesn't equate to the textbook definition of hospitality. Things were slow, and unlike top end Korean restaurants I'm used to in NY and LA, where any floating staff can assist with cooking, things just took unnecessarily long. This is a pain point they really need to address, especially as a Korean restaurant. As a half-Korean, service and efficiency is part of our cultural pride, so this disappointed. The marinated beef ribs ("kalbi") were perfect. I grew up with this my whole life, and Sizzle's quality is right up there with kalbi royalty. If you've never had Korean bbq, and have only one chance to eat it THIS is the dish you want. The beef brisket ("chadol") was good too, but what makes this dish popular is the sauce. There are places in Korea and LA that people line up for specifically because of the chadol sauce. They didn't have a dedicated sauce, so if you've ordered and liked it, you're only getting half the picture. Dedicated chadol sauce is THE key, instead of the rudimentary salt or sesame oil. HUGELY disappointed! It's like trying pizza for the first time without tomato sauce, no matter HOW good the crust and cheese is. Other than that, like I said, they represented. However, I'd elevate on my 2 critical points, because someone could easily open up a competing restaurant, and wreck this place on service and sauce. Well, we decided to give Sizzle another shot and try the meats this time so I can give it a proper review. I think my second visit just validated my first, and Sizzle unfortunately just fizzles when it comes to Korean options in the city. Service: We waited 30 minutes for a table despite seeing several open tables. We were told by the host it was because the servers needed to "catch up," which was confusing at first. After finally being seated, we realized the servers cook for you, so probably they didn't have enough servers or something, but never good to see a bunch of open tables while being placed on a long wait. Our waiter Wonmin was great though. He did a good job at cooking the meats and refilling the banchan. There was one point where we had raw meat sitting for a while before our waiter came back. Another server who walked by could have easily pitched in to help our waiter by throwing it on the grill for us to keep things moving along. If they utilized their waiters more efficiently for things like this, maybe they could seat more people. Food: I'll admit the meats are definitely better quality than what you get at an AYCE Korean joint. However, a few things stood out. The beef brisket still had a good amount of fat on it, and our marinated short rib came with a giant piece of bone which should have never been served. For the $155 I'm paying for the beef set, I would have expected better. They recently raised their prices btw and the prices aren't correct on their website (our set was listed for $145 on the website). Sides: The free banchan was good and a nice variety, and the waiter brought us as much as we wanted. However, some of the banchan they listed on their website (broccoli, cucumber kimchi, potato salad) weren't even offered as an available option. Value: While the three of us had plenty to eat with the large beef set that is supposed to feed 3-4 people, I wouldn't call the $155 price tag a value. Portion wise the meat easily fed us all, but to give us one soup and steamed egg, and expect this could be shared up to four people seems like a stretch unless everyone is getting a tiny amount. Also, rice which is a staple in every Korean reataurant, didn't come with our meal. Sizzle is definitely an Americanized "Korean BBQ." While the service was good... that about sums up thr positive....The banchan lacked flavor. The fish cakes tasted like they were super old, they didnt even have half of the banchan they advertise in their menu (we asked). They grill the meat on a mesh grate instead of an actual grill griddle that most other Korean BBQ places use (even in Korea).. which causes the meat to stick to the mesh and you lose a good portion of it. They cook it in a pile... not spread out... the mushroom is inedible... the japchae is not cooked well and clumped together.. it also lacked flavor... the seafood pancake, while crispy on the outside was mushy on the inside... they had overfilled it and used the wrong temp thus the inside couldn't cook all the way. So good! This was our first time coming here, and my entire family left full, happy, and loving the food. The whole experience was excellent -- great ambiance, great service, and really high-quality food. We loved everything from the steak combo to the noodles, and even all of the vegetables were amazing. It was also really fun watching the server cook everything right in front of us. Honestly, after a few recent restaurant experiences with mediocre food and top-tier prices, I was starting to give up on dining out. This place restored my faith that there are still restaurants serving quality food with great service and atmosphere. On my last experience, Saturday March 28th, it was disappointing due to the way we were treated. We requested fish cake upon ordering and was told they just ran out, I commented/asked if that was truly the case as it is always out. At the very least, it's been the last 10 times they've been out of this side. We do go frequently, so it was surprising to hear him make this excuse. The remaining food service was average, it was busy so the server did the best he could under the circumstances. He attitude seemed fine and we moved on with our meal. Upon receiving our check, he decided to autograt our bill for a party of 5. I brought this up to our server and he stated it is managements decision to autograt parties of 5 or more (I call BS) and asked if it was because I seemed displeased at the ordering of our food due to the fish cake questions? I asked if I was profiled as someone who doesn't tip for any other reason? He insisted that all parties of 5 or more at the restaurant are autograt, at all Sizzles. At this point, if servers are now able to autograt any parties they feel a tip is not earned, it's no longer a tip and a restaurant charge. if I was profiled, it would seriously be disappointing. I'm happy to share all receipts showing a minimum of 20% at every restaurant, many cases even more, including at Sizzle. Deeply disappointing at this restaurant and may consider not going back. There are many options but to be treated this way is again, disappointing at best. I rated 2 stars due to the interaction and excuses for the autograt and will be writing a letter to the management but affirm the food/meat quality is very good, this was a very bad reflection of service and decision for the service staff to secure their tip this way. If they're out of fish cake, I do not blame the server and it is not their compensation that should be impacted but the action taken by the staff is questionable. read more

Sizzle is great for korean bbq- definitely top notch but for some reason, at this location, it wasn't my favorite for soups. I ordered the soy bean soup and it wasnt even filled half way. There was hardly any meat in it, just small pieces and big chunks of tofu in it. For being a 17 dollar soup on its own, just didn't do it justice. Everything else was really good. We dove into the beef combo: beef brisket (so juicy), boneless short rib (melt-in-your-mouth), marinated short rib (my personal MVP), and marinated thinly sliced beef (tender and packed with flavor). The combo also came with a warm, comforting kimchi stew that hit the spot--just the right amount of kick. We couldn't resist adding kimchi fried rice as a side--charred, crispy, and loaded with flavor. It paired perfectly with everything else, especially the Ban Chan (the little side dishes that are totally free and refillable!). Very good. Tried sizzle on a Sunday evening. Ordered the seafood, pancake, bi bim bop and Bulgogi. The server brought a number of sides, which were all pretty tasty and fired up the grill. The server loaded up the grill with the meat and some mushrooms and returned to finish ,however, we cooked it ourselves. The Bulgogi was delicious. I would definitely order the seafood pancake, and the bi bim bop was fine. We will definitely return and try it another time. read more

The restaurant has an intimate feel, which I like since it is in a big shopping center. We did the 5 beef combo with an order of kimchi fried rice & everything was amazing. All the meats were seasoned well & the waitress made sure they were cooked to perfection. The fried rice was cooked well & the egg on top really enhanced the flavor. I came by myself to this location and the service here was good. It's usually hard to solo done at a kbbq restaurant but I enjoyed it here. I ordered the beef tartare for starters. The beef was more on the frozen side but after a while, it did defrost and paired really well with the pear and cucumber. For an appetizer, the portion size was huge and the taste was very refreshing !! The sesame oil and dried seaweed sheets also helped tie the whole dish together. For the main entree, I ordered the hot spicy beef soup that came with a bowl of rice. There were also noodles inside the soup! The soup was very comforting and paired well with a soju drink. The soup is also deceivingly huge. Even after having to take the rest home, it still filled up a whole quart. For $15, that is super worth it. I ended the meal with a mango bing soo. No words needed. My boyfriend found out about this place from a friend, and he was so excited to share that there was a KBBQ place for us to try together. I looked up the menu, and I immediately noticed how the quality of the meat looked top tier. As a note, it is also not all-you-can-eat (AYCE), so I would suggest doing the combos + ordering a la carte. It is great that your food still comes with some sides (if you order the meals or combo!) For dinner, we ordered the small beef combo with: beef brisket, ribeye, marinated short rib, marinated thinly sliced beef (bulgogi), and kimchi stew. We didn't order anything additional aside from two white rices, as well as soju (shoutout to the lychee soju and Peach ChuHai cocktail.) My favorite meats were the brisket and marinate short rib, but all of it was delicious. I would say it was the perfect amount of food for two people because I had to take deep breaths at the end of the meal. Our waitress was also a sweetheart. She was very patient and soft spoken! The workers cook the kbbq for you, by the way, so they're standing there as you're having conversation over dinner. She would leave to let the meat cook and to let us eat, so it is not overbearing or awkward at all. We do like the experience of cooking our own meat. I was recently in Phoenix and met an old friend to hang out. We had lunch at Sizzle close to the Musical Instruments Museum where we were headed later. There are several different locations but this one is in the center of a large shopping plaza/mall complex called Desert Ridge. The decor is very modern , clean and there was a large screen tv playing KPop music videos although the sound system was playing different music from what was being shown on the tv screen. The dining area is somewhat small so not a good place for large groups but the intimate atmosphere makes it ideal for a casual date and conversation among friends. The menu is not large but it has enough variety for most people. This is not a place to go to if you're looking for a lot of the traditional Korean dishes. It's not an all you can eat type of barbecue and the servers actually cook the meat for you on the grill at your table. We ordered kalbi, beef short ribs, which were very tender and excellent . The sliced mushrooms were delicious after absorbing some of the marinade and had a smoky flavor from the grill. We were surprised that the kalbi order came with a bowl of steamed eggs. This was fine and similar to other restaurants' version but I am always disappointed because no one makes it like my mother. She always put the salted tiny shrimp in hers, which makes it very salty and requires a bowl of rice to finish, but it's a nostalgic favorite dish for me. We also ordered japchae, the classic stir fried sweet potato noodles with vegetables and my friend added beef. This was a bit new to me, since usually beef is part of the dish when I eat out Korean and I usually order without it because my wife is Hindu. The japchae was very good and I liked that it was less sweet than what is served at many Korean restaurants. I am more a savory than sweet guy in my flavor preferences. I know some people like the sweeter versions. The banchan was probably the most disappointing . Although the variety was average and included some unusual choices like scallion salad( which went well with the kalbi), pickled red onions ( which reminded me of the Mexican condiment ) and a European-like herb salad. The kimchi did not appear to be house made and was average to mediocre. The pickled spicy cucumbers were ok. Soy sauce jalapeño peppers are not native to Korea and I passed on those because I don't tolerate too much spice. The bean sprouts were average ( but to be honest most versions of this are kinda average). I did order a bowl of rice because I am Korean and I just love rice. Our server was friendly, polite and overall excellent. I think this place is a bit under the radar based on the occupancy when we were there. Despite the less than stellar banchan, the actual dishes were very tasty. My friend would likely give 5 stars but banchan always matters to me in a review of Korean restaurants, probably because of my experiences at restaurants in NJ and Seoul. I do highly recommend this spot. If you are shopping at Desert Ridge, it's a little oasis of Korean goodness when you need a bite to eat. read more

This is an Amazing Korean BBQ place! The food is super delicious and the restaurant is real nice and has a cool vibe to it! It was my first time here. Upon arrival, we were seated promptly. Our booth was comfortable. They played good music, but it wasn't too loud. We ordered 4 meats and they were all mouth watering: Prime Rib Eye, Pork Belly, Thinly Sliced Beef, and Short Ribs (Galbi). We were very happy with our selection. Everything was delicious but my top 2 were the Thinly Sliced Beef and Galbi. I loved the bit of saltiness in the thinly sliced beef. The banchan was very good. We also got the steamed egg (cooked to perfection) and Bulgogi with glass noodles (excellent). Our server, Daniel, was great! He cooked our food perfectly and was very helpful. He changed out our grill a few times, too. His service is 5 stars! I asked him what were his favorites and he liked the Galbi and Grilled Squid I believe it was. The food was fresh and the banchan was plentiful! I love how they cook your meats for you!! Usually I enjoy cooking my own meats at KBBQ but they just cooked it perfectly and so quick hahaha! Ok so I will give it two stars as the staff was super friendly and accommodating. The food on the other hand was not inspiring at all. I ordered Mandoo but they came out half cooked and a bit soggy. I generally dont order these when I am Los Angeles or Korea but earn in Rome. I did not order meat as i only wanted a soup and didn't want to drive to Mesa to get it. The Soondubu was not like any I have had before. Not flavorful but I would eat it if I was in a pinch. The kicker was that I found a big blob of gochuchang in the soup not stirred just a blob. Never seen this before in my 100 times of eating soontubu. Asked for extra spicy and it was quite bland. So maybe not getting the meat is not the best choice on the menu as it appears you may be better off cooking your own meal that having them do it. Mesa or what until my next trip to LA. read more

We then moved on to marinated short rib which was fantastically seasoned and we ended with the outside skirt which was another table favorite. And the Ban Chan selections were great. Are you wondering why the two star review? Well our service was horrible. Typically in a restaurant like this, the server will ask "have you even dined with us?" The question was not asked, which was ok because I did not have a problem letting Zyra know this was our first time to this restaurant. After that statement was made she just looked at me...didn't say a word. Can I read a menu? Yes, I most definitely can, but one of the jobs as a sever is to give the guest a great experience (and I am speaking from experience in the restaurant service industry). Now Zyra was polite, but that was it, she only came to the table to cook the meat and give the check. No explanation of how it works. We didn't know, do you cook the meat all at once? Can we get more Ban Chan? A little while later she dropped the check (and did not ask if we wanted dessert) and said we can get a box if we wanted. But she never came back! So after dropping the check, apparently that was all for her BUT that was NOT all for me. I am a dessert girl. We tried to get her attention but to know avail, so we asked the hostess for a dessert menu and a box. The dessert was also fantastic, very refreshing. We got the strawberry Bin Soo. Sizzle has top tier quality meat, you can taste the difference in the bbq compared to places like Gen and Manna (but those places are AYCE and this is not so it wouldn't be fair to compare them but I mention them in case you frequent them). Anyway, between 2-3 people we usually order two a La carte meat options and a tofu stew or dumpling soup (both of which are superb and flavorful. The tofu stew is a little spicy though, prepare for a mild kick). That in itself a little over $100. But there's also the complementary sides that includes salad, radish, kimchi, fish cake and some orders include steamed egg. This is special occasions only pricing in a casual modern atmosphere. Side note, this particular Sizzle tends to be a little chilly lol bring a jacket. The prime boneless short rib is our favorite, so tender and great marbling. Prime rib eye steak tasted so-so, nothing special. I would stick with the prime boneless short rib or their brisket was also good. Haven't tried other meats yet. We really liked our server. Depending on the meat you order, they will change the grill type too. In summary, this is a step up in KBBQ. Hope this helps, happy eating! read more

this brand of Korean barbecue is very good in Arizona. The quality of meat and ingredients is very nice and you can tell that most of the stuff is fresh. I attended a dinner after a graduation. No one was there thankfully just my family. The ambience was nice. The server was nice. Everything was pretty much spot on very much recommended this place. I did not give it a five star since I tried to use a dining pass and they kind of refused it . The dining pass was working at first, but then they seem to be disconnecting wires from their computer to make it not work. They supposedly were on with the phone on IT and we're not able to honor the $50 coupon dining pass I did not mind since the bill would have already been more than $200 but was really looking forward for that coupon. read more

My boyfriend wanted Korean BBQ for his birthday dinner. Sizzle was close to where we were staying, so we decided to try it. The restaurant was busy, and we were told there was a 30 to 40 minute. However, we probably waited 5 minutes before being sat. I have only been to Korean BBQ restaurants where you cook the food. At Sizzle the food is cooked for you, which I think I prefer. Food, genuinely shocked. Did not expect good Korean food in Scottsdale Arizona. The food was excellent with great ingredients. The Ban Chan, the sidedishes, were fresh, neat, and delicious. The place was very clean. And service was excellent. I had Eunice for server. She was very friendly and very helpful. I suspect, I'll be coming back here often, next time, not by myself, but with friends. By the way, I had the Yook- Gae Jang. Sizzle is the best KKBQ in Arizona, it reminds me a lot of Baekjong. They have great meat quality and the workers cook for you, so you relax while eating. The small beef combo is a good portion and very filling, we shared between 3 people and had leftovers. I wish they had a beef + pork combo, that would be the best of both worlds. This is my go-to for Korean BBQ when in Scottsdale. It's tucked away in a nice outdoor mall, and both times I went, there was no wait. I always go for the beef and pork combo. For 6 of us we ordered 1 large Beef Combo and 1 large Pork Combo. We also ordered 2 of the Spicy Cold Noodles. The meats were all really good quality and the marinated meats were perfectly marinated. You get the unlimited side dishes, and the combo comes with steamed egg, salad and kimchi stew or soybean stew - we got 1 of each, and they're both really good stews and authentic. The server will cook the meat for you and chop up the big pieces, and also there's a vent on top of each grill, so you don't feel icky with meat smell all over your clothes afterwards when you're leaving the restaurant. The restaurant is super modern and clean - you won't feel the oil slick on the floor, like some other Korean BBQ restaurants (if you know what I mean). Lastly, we finished off with dessert. The Mango Shaved Ice hits the spot after the meal. The shaved ice is so soft and milky, and the fresh mangos on top with the condensed milk drizzled on top is heaven. read more

The restaurant is cozy and located in a marketplace. You can make a reservation via Yelp. The staff was friendly and were quick to provide us water refills and any other complementary side dishes we wanted. The beef combo was a great deal with a really good amount of food. We let the staff cook for us, you are able to cook yourself if you wanted. I would recommend white rice to complement the strong flavors of the meat.
