This place satisfies a Korean food craving for my wife and I. They did a good job at providing tasty food and great service. Service is mostly done through a bell system at your table. Any waiter that hears the bell comes to your table to assist. The response never took longer than 20 seconds most of the time. To start the appetizer tray at the beginning is an awesome touch that I'm not used to in other places I have tried. It kind of took the guess work out of ordering in my opinion so I only had to focus on what meat or dish I wanted since my sides were already selected and refillable for free through the course of the meal. We ordered the seafood sundubu, beef bulgogi, and sweat and spicy korean fried chicken wings. The portion size was very generous on the wings and on the crispier side which my wife prefers. The seafood sundubu was delicious and was pleasantly surprised to see a decent amount of tofu and seafood types in the dish. The beef bulgogi was also tasty and as I said before just scratched that korean food craving that we had. This has been added to our rotation of date night locations for us! I came to Koreatown because I was craving kimchi stew for lunch. As soon as I sat down to order, the aroma of the kalbi caught my attention, and I decided to treat myself to a little cheat day. I ordered the kalbi and cold noodles for $26.00, and both were absolutely delicious. I had gone a few days without meat, so it was especially satisfying. I also enjoyed the banchan, and I finished everything except the fish cakes, which are just not my favorite. Overall, I really appreciated the meal and the experience. I arrived with a party of three and we were seated quickly and explained how ordering operates. The waiter was friendly and the restaurant was not crowded. On the table there is a button to call the waiter for ordering or for any other needs. Each Korean restaurant seems to offer a bit of variety in their dishes, and sometimes a specialty dish that the others Korean restaurants do not. We started off with seafood pancake and it had shrimp, octopus and large green onion. I would have appreciated a bit more seafood, but it was cooked crispy on the outside and nice and thick. The dipping sauce was very good. We ordered beef bulgogi ssam-bap (serves 2) which traditionally can be eaten with a lettuce wrap, garlic and ssamjang (non-spicy red paste). It arrived with a diverse tray of greens, perilla leaves and carrots, samjang and garlic. The greens were enough to feed kennel of at least four rabbits. The beef was a fair amount however it was overcooked. It also arrived with a soup and ban chan of 8 items. These provide a variety of the traditional side dishes, or ban chan of Korean food. We also ordered a cold namyeong soup with a side of kalbi. The soup had daikon radish and is traditionally eaten in the summer. The kalbi had the tender soft meat that is its highlight. Overall, we had a great experience and while Korean food is traditionally a meal that runs about $20 a person, it has an aesthetic presentation, it is flavorful, especially with umami, and it is fairly healthy. First time being back here after the change of ownership. I noticed two distinct changes. First big change was the menu. It is more concise but was kinda surprised to discover they don't have the oxtail soup or japchae- glass noodles with vegs anymore. We ordered galbi- marinated short ribs, spicy pork belly and mandoo- fried dumplings. The flavor of everything was better than last time but the meat portion sizes were about half of what it was last time. I loved all the variety and flavor of the side dishes. I especially enjoyed the braised black soybeans and broccoli with tofu as they were quite flavorful and not a standard banchan offered at restaurants. I'd definitely come back when I have a craving for some good Korean food though I do kinda miss the huge portions and taking home lots of leftovers:) read more

Haven't gone out to a restaurant in a very long time and wifey wanted to go here so I said sure. To the right of the restaurant is where you can barbecue your own meat and the rest is general seating. They bring you water and when we were ready to order they asked that we buzz from a remote bell placed on each table. We never had to use it though as the service was attentive. Loved all the side dishes which is such a nice perk of eating at a Korean restaurant. I ordered their 10 piece fried beef dumpling and it was quite tasty with a very nice crisp to it. Wife ordered galbi (marinated beef short rib) and she really enjoyed it. I had a piece and it was tender and had good flavor. Our meals came with miso soup which was also flavorful. We've been to Koreatown so many times, and now it's under new ownership. They haven't really changed much inside, the restaurant still has the same open space, high ceilings, and good size like before. We weren't too hungry, so we just ordered the Vegan Dol-Sot Bibimbap, Soy Garlic Chicken, and Ugeogi Kalbi-Tang (spicy beef short rib). Everything was really tasty and packed with flavor! Koreantown never disappoints when I have a craving for Korean food. I appreciate that I get to choose my experience (left side: dining room, right side: self serve BBQ). I only had an hour for dinner, so I picked the left side. The server was very patient my questions and helped me with my final decisions. I ordered a seafood pancake, tofu stew with beef, and bibimbap with pork. All are so flavorful. The beef was a bit tough for my mom, but I was okay with it. The side dishes were all too pretty to touch haha! Tips: go with clothes you are willing to wash right away after you get home and on your hair wash day. I was not in the mood for Korean BBQ so I opted for the regular dining. Regular dining to left bbq to right. Pretty good selection of dishes, only initial pain was how expensive dishes were. But I understand everything cost more now. Staff was very friendly and attentive which was nice. Restaurant also had nice decor. Ordered yukgaejang extra spicy and spicy pork dol-pan. Yukgaejang was extra spicy just the way I like it. Broth had nice flavor also. I realized it's been many many years since last time I had this soup. I have to say probably one of the better ones I've had. Spicy pork dol-pan was pretty good and stayed hot for long time.. It is very hot so be careful. Side of banchan that came was pretty good with good selections. Over all the food was good and I definitely come back here again.. Now I know why my mom comes here often. Oh.. We haven't been here in a while and I assume they have new manager/owners since the menu looks different. Their side dishes were really yummy and I can tell they made an effort in each dish. We tried two of their soups (see photos) which are not often found in other Korean restaurants around here. It did taste yummy and satisfying especially when the weather is cold outside. Haven't been here in a while. Someone else said there's a new owner. The food was very good! We got the fried dumplings which were hot crispy and tasty! It comes with 10. The Kim chee pancakes were delicious too. You get 4 pancakes. Then we got the Kal bi. It was tasty most pieces were good but a couple were very small or very fatty. The staff was great. Asked if we wanted more side dishes a couple of times (we declined). The sides are good. The only one we didn't like was the chili peppers because they were too spicy for us. But the Kim chee, bean sprouts, potatoes and noodles were good. The restaurant is big and has a side for self cooking ( we did the normal restaurant side) I will definitely return! First of all, the side dishes are supposed to be served right away while you are waiting for your entree. The side dishes tastes aweful especially the soggy mini cucumber. This place offers a lot of variety with their menu. Service was great. When I was done I packed my leftovers and they put it in a bag for me, which was nice! Tried the steamed dumplings and spicy pork bibimbap. Steamed dumplings were good and comes with a lot of pieces. We have been to Koreatown multiple times. The food never disappoints! The service had been every time we'd gone there, up until now. We were a larger party and the service started off being quite accommodating. It soon went down hill. Food that we hadn't ordered came out, and 2 people in the party waited 30 minutes (not exaggerating) before the food came out - everyone else was almost done eating. They initially said they could split up our checks, and they had done so every time before. At the end of the meal on this day however, we were told it cold only be split up to 3 ways. It was also very obvious that the servers were dodging us - they weren't looking our way and would seldom come over. This was so unfortunate as we really did enjoy this restaurant. Boy, did I miss this place! This was one of my favorite spots when I lived in AZ. Recently, we were "forced" by American Airlines to spend two days in Phoenix, and of course, I had to hit up some of my favorite spots. SENTRY - WATCHING RESTAURANTS Koreatown 1832 W Broadway Rd. Mesa, AZ 85202 Companion and I went to Koreatown only to find that it is under new ownership. This review reflects the new menu and not the original Koreatown reviews. We were seated quickly even though they were a bit crowded. In due course we were provided with the new menus. Far more abbreviated than the old ones. We both chose the Spicy Pork Bulgogi and we were provided with cold water. Had we been asked we would have ordered a soft drink or tea, but no person was available to ask for it as they disappeared the instant we placed our order. After a period of time the dishes we ordered were brought out. Unlike typical Korean restaurants the meat was sliced on a meat slicer and was in long curled strips that could barely fit into ones mouth. They did not provide us with scissors to cut the meat (most Korean restaurants use scissors instead of knives) so we had to make do. The meat was flavorful if somewhat dry though the portion size was adequate. Dinner should have been accompanied with Banchan (assorted side dishes) and after we had partially eaten our food it showed up on the table along with a bowl of rice and a bowl of broth. The Banchan was nothing like what the restaurant used to serve, and was missing the Danmuji Muchim (Seasoned Pickled Radish) which we so looked forward to. The Kimchi which is at the heart of Korean cooking was lacking in flavor completely and was as disappointing as the rest of the items. When I discussed the meal with a lady who seemed to be in charge she claimed to not know anything about our food. Strange for the person who everyone on staff claimed was the person to talk to. The place is clean and sanitary, but it seems to have lost its soul. 3 Stars read more

Another spectacular meal at Koreatown! I've been on a Japchae kick and Koreatown's japchae definitely hit the spot for me. I love that the japchae is as big, if not bigger than my head! U can't beat the portion size here! It's fantabulous!! The texture and flavor of the japchae was outstanding! Love that they put more veggies and mushrooms in it than another Korean spot that I visited recently. Our servers were nice and upbeat with very pleasant attitudes! Ok I've been here many times before. Tonight. Was. Bad. And I mean... Bad. I brought my husband and my kids. Let me start by saying Banchan was 4 items... The kimchi was fresh, not fermented at all... The cucumbers were ok, the potato was lacking flavor. Also, once we ordered they disappeared and never checked on us. So no refills on Banchan. The picked radish (wasabi mul) which usually pairs amazing with the brisket lacked flavor and actually had an odd taste. We got the combo for 2-3 people. Ordered ktown short ribs, bulgogi and brisket. The bulgogi was not marinated well. The bean paste stew lacked flavor and the vegetables were undercooked. The spicy noodle dish wasn't very flavorful either. The corn was edible. The seafood in the hot pot was edible. The server came back after we were done to "check" on us. We had to turn off the grill ourselves. I think we had more people checking on us AFTER we were done than during the actual meal. Based off this trip I probably won't be back anytime soon. We frequent this restaurant about once every 2 months and we always enjoy the food. We like the free appetizers, the food is usually good and servers are friendly and attentive. Wednesday the 21of February we were the first ones in at 5 PM and ordered the Seafood Hot Pot. It arrived and looked extremely appetizing. There was a generous amount of seafood i.e. crab, shrimp, baby octopus and razor clams which would have been well worth the $50. The veggies in the pot were awesome but some of the seafood was sub-par.The squid and razor clams were good but the Shrimp and Crab were not good at all. When I tasted the section of the crab with the small legs I was extremely disappointed and lost my appetite for the rest of my meal. When the server came over and asked if we were enjoying our meal, I voiced my displeasure to him and he replied " I will pass that on to the chef". My wife continued to eat a bit more then we asked to take the rest home. Overall the soup base was good, veggies great, Octopus, and Razor Clams good, Shrimp and Crab not Fresh. As a side note, when we asked the server for crab claw crackers, we were told, they did not have any. He brought us serving tongs and asked if they would work? We ordered the small Beef combo (feeds 2-3) Kalbi had great flavor, Beef belly was so nice, really everything was delicious. I was extremely impressed with the sides offered with our combo, everything tasted fresh and was not lacking in flavor. I really enjoyed the grilled kimchi, super tasty and really delightful warm. Still my favorite go to for Korean food. I always get the hot stone pot with vegetables. $13.99. The server was helpful with my gluten restrictions. Everything was fresh and delicious. The cabbage kimchi , cucumber kimchi , bean spout kimchi were excellent. Some of the sides contained gluten so I wasn't able to eat them. They brought out 8 side dishes. I liked the variety. Came to this spot for dinner on a Friday night at 5:30pm - no wait for KBBQ or tables where you order food. We ordered the raw marinated crab, spicy brisket soup with vegetables, and galbi. The raw marinated crab came in a huge portion, enough for 3-4 people. They provided plastic gloves, as well as a bowl for discarding shells. The flavor was good, sweet and slightly spicy. I personally had severe stomach virus symptoms (a euphemism to put it lightly) the following Tuesday, but still aren't sure if the crabs were related... As for the remaining two dishes, the galbi was very tasty, and our favorite dish of the night due to rich sweet and salty flavor. It was a bit sinewy, with more chewy bits than tender meat. The spicy brisket soup came piping hot - it was packed with veggies, slightly lacking in the brisket department. It does come with glass noodles, something we were not aware of. I felt like it could have been a bit more flavorful and spicy. The sides were as numerous as they were tasty, and the purple rice was good. Overall, very attentive staff, reasonable prices, good portion size, and good place to go if you can't decide between KBBQ and Korean dishes. Stopped by during my monthly work trip visit to Phoenix. I wanted Asian so I drove out to Mesa. I was craving Korean soup, so I'm happy to have found this spot. It's a big restaurant with lots of tables and Korean BBQ. I'll give the BBQ a try next time I visit. Service was good, but nothing that stood out. She checked up on me once, and when I asked for my bill. I ordered the Pork Soup Medium with extra pork meat. The soup was good and tasty. The ban chan was ok. I enjoyed the seafood pancake and did find there was a good amount of seafood inside vs other spots that may lean more towards the veg. Also got the potato noodles which were OK. Wish there was a bit more sauce. Lastly, we had the sausage veg stir fry which was pretty good but wished there was another protein in it - more of our preference and fault since we chose a sausage dish lol. First off service was very good. They made a point to make us comfortable by conversation and provided food very fast. The tables were clean as well as the high chair. Yes we ventured out on a Saturday for dinner with our two kids when it was 108 degrees out. Food was good! We ordered the soy marinated, kalbi and soy garlic whole chicken.
