4.5/5 I love the concept of YCs in that you pick your proteins, veg, and sauces while a grill master cooks it up for you in just a matter of minutes. I used to go to the one in Tempe on Southern and McClintock a lot pre-Covid and was sad when that location closed down. When my boba sistah suggested this spot for a lunch I was excited to try this location out. The restaurant is a few doors down from the Sweetwaters shop, on the opposite end. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and the shaded patio is quite lovely. You pick your size bowl, and whether you want soft serve for lunch (I think it's included for dinner). The large bowl is only $1 more than the small so I went big, as I didn't want to go home. The meats are thinly shaved and frozen so don't be afraid to pile it on your bowl. Push it all down with the paper that is offered next to the meats and then pile on your vegetables, noodles and sauces. I appreciate that they have tried and true sauce mix recipes but I usually go rogue and create my own with varying results. My mixture of YCs own, orange sauce, garlic, ginger, Thai peanut, and curry was decent but probably could have used some more YCs sauce or soy sauce to balance out the more sweet flavors. Oh well you live and you learn! I also didn't realize they have sesame oil as well as chili oil right next to the sauces so layer that in if you'd like. At the counter they have more chili oil bottles and sesame seeds if you'd like to finish your bowl with those toppings. Rice (white and brown), 2 types of soup and wonton crisps are also offered at a little stand you'll see after getting your cooked bowl. I enjoyed both the YCs signature soup (A chicken and veggie concoction) and the spicy beef. Drinks consist of fountain sodas and various iced teas. Since I had a towering mountain of protein and vegetables I was stuffed after eating half of it so I got a to go box ($.50). I figure it will be good for dinner or for the next day. Service at the register, grill counter and clearing our plates was very friendly and pleasant. I'm a fan of this location! If I lived closer I'd be here more often but when I'm in the area this will be a great place for a design-your-own stir-fry meal. read more

First review of the year! My boba sistah +1 came here for lunch. None of us had been to this location and we reminisced about the Tempe one that unfortunately closed years ago. There is a good amount of parking here and they have a large patio, which I love. Plenty of indoor seating too, with a good mix of tables and booths. We entered and were greeted by a warm and friendly employee. We all ordered large bowls, since they're only $1 more than the small bowls. Prices were higher than expected but considering the amount of food you get, it's justifiable. I hadn't been to YCs in years but the concept is straightforward: first, choose your protein. They have chicken (white and dark), beef, pork, Alaskan cod, and tofu (with the veggies). The meat appears dehydrated and there's a sign saying it cooks down, so add accordingly. They have wax paper to help smush and make room in your bowl. There were a lot of veggies to choose from, which I appreciated. After my chicken and tofu, I added edamame, green onion, baby corn, brussels sprouts, spinach, carrots, broccoli, zucchini, mushrooms, bean sprouts, peanuts and jicama. They have dried spices and I added some of the blackened mix. They also have a few noodle options, and I basically got some of each. Lots of sauces, and you use a bowl to add them together. I got a good mix of them, including red thai peanut, sweet & sour, YC house sauce, spicy hunan, thai chili, garlic, syrup, and vinegar. The wok chef was friendly and did a good job cooking my bowl. They also had additional sauces here like sriracha and soy. They have a side bar with brown and white rice, two kinds of soup, and chips. They also have drinks, including a few iced tea flavors. Frozen yogurt is $1 for lunch and included in the dinner price. I was satisfied with the amount of food I got and the variety of ingredients. Not a big fan of the chicken, was on the dry side. The sauce ends up at the bottom so mixing is required. For my palate, I added salt and soy sauce which helped with flavor. My only complaint is regarding my drink: the raspberry iced tea was supposed to be sweetened, but didn't taste so. And the lemonade might have been out of syrup because there was no flavor to that, and it looked pretty clear coming out. The fortune cookie was a nice way to end the meal, and one of the employees came and took our bowls and trays once we finished. To-go boxes are $.50 each so we got two of those. Stopped in for lunch. I initially ordered a small bowl, but decided to bump up to a large. The woman taking the order evidently didn't catch the change and only charged me for a small. I go to the bar to make my bowl and the same woman snatched the bowl off my tray. "You only paid for a small!" Clearly, there was a misunderstanding. The person I was with heard me clearly ask her to make mine a large. Either way, I paid the dollar difference. There were limited meat options as compared to other Mongolian grills I've been to. The food was cooked quickly, but had no taste despite following the sauce recipe that had posted. The noodles were overcooked at the bar so they only got mushier when they hit the grill. The interior was fine. Not too cluttered and plenty of seating. The food wasn't good and the staff could use some guidance on maintaining professionalism. It's extremely rude to snatched something off someone's tray. The prospect of the whole dollar with of savings, if only I could trick them by taking a large bowl instead of a small, was not within my plans. read more

Staff always cleaning up tables and mopping floors-Very hard workers!! Never saw them take a break! The one thing I have to mention is that the chef cleans off the grill a lot. I have checked out YC's Mongolian Grill three times for dinner on different days of the week. Located in North Scottsdale, parking won't be a problem in their complimentary lot. Service (5/5): Upon entering, you choose what size bowl you'd like to go with at the counter if you're dining in. If you're getting takeout, that's an option too. If you're dining in, each size bowl comes with a soft drink included. Once you have your bowl, it's free game to pick all of the meats, veggies, fruits, seasonings, and sauces your heart desires. We'll cover this more in depth later. Here are some things that stand out about the service: they will gladly help you make your sauce, the staff is attentive, and on one occasion, they allowed us to stay after they had closed by a good margin even though we were the last table (without pressuring us). Ambiance (4/5): A spacious, clean restaurant with booths, high tops, and table top seating. It's exactly what I would expect from a Mongolian BBQ restaurant. No complaints. Drinks (4/5): Pretty much your standard assortment of soft drinks and iced tea. Food (4/5): Now this is where things get interesting. If you've never been to a Mongolian BBQ spot before, you are given a bowl where you put all of the raw meat, veggies, fruit, and noodles you would like. Pro tip: if you're trying to get as much meat a possible, use the parchment paper to flatten and pack the meat in the bowl and skip the noodles. Once your bowl is complete, they also have a sauce bowl. You'll see various sauce recommendations they recommend like Mongolian beef sauce, orange chicken sauce, teriyaki sauce, etc. They can help you make the sauces if you're not comfortable doing in on your own. After you're done, hand your bowls and tray over, and they will grill the food for you on a circular hibachi grill and then bring it out to you. While your food is getting ready, stock up on some of the additional items you can get including white rice, brown rice, chicken noodle soup, and fried wontons with sweet and sour sauce. Remember how I mentioned skipping the noodles? If you're okay with rice, that's how you get more meat in your bowl. If you pack in enough, the bowls are quite filling. You can get a to-go box for a small surcharge. At the very least, take a complimentary fortune cookie. I've been to quite a few different Mongolian BBQ joints over the years. YC's does a great job with its service, additional items outside of the bowls, and the qualities of the meat and produce. My only criticism? The diversity of the meat options. You have white meat chicken, dark meat chicken, beef, pork, and cod. At other spots, I've seen more options including ham, pepperoni, imitation crab, scallops, shrimp, etc. But still, overall, an awesome spot to grab a casual meal. read more

This is a fun spot, you can customize your bowl with lots of options for protein (Alaskan fish only available during dinner hours), veggies, and sauces. Meals also come with a drink, soup, rice, and ice cream! I think if we didn't come during a slow time, it would have been difficult to properly fill our bowl if there was a line behind us but when you have the time, it's okay. Or there's also the all you can eat option. I'm giving it 4 stars primarily for flavor, the sauce options were great, but subtle and not thick. It does make it a healthier bowl. Soup was satisfying, but could also be salty. Again, just a really fun spot for the family. Staff was a nice, they have a cute patio too. I'm giving a huge shout out for YC's Mongolian Grill. My family has been eating there since they opened in Pavilions and were so sad when COVID shut them down at that location. But they re-opened up near Kohl's and Walmart off the 101 and FLW a few years ago and they're as awesome as they ever were. If you've never tried them, you definitely should. It's delicious, fresh food, and because you fill your bowl yourself, it's perfect for everyone, especially for people like me who have a lot of food restrictions. They encourage you to fill your bowl as full and high as possible (it cooks down when you give it to the chef), and includes all the rice, soups, beverages, and ice cream you want. I just picked up an order here today on Friday, March 27th at around 4:10 PM, and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience with the hostess. From the moment I arrived, her attitude came across as rude and sarcastic. Rather than offering a welcoming or professional greeting, her comments felt unnecessarily cheeky and dismissive. Customer service is a big part of any dining experience--even for takeout--and this interaction left a negative impression. If you're looking for a friendly and respectful atmosphere, you may want to consider another restaurant. YC's is a local 30 year Phoenix chain with 3 locations: Scottsdale, Tempe, and Gilbert. It offers something for everyone, from carnivores to pescatarians to vegetarians. There are two bowl sizes. We opted for the large, since it was only $1.00 more than the small. The meal includes soup, frozen yogurt, and a refillable drink. You can also pay a small amount more for unlimited portions. They offer a military and senior citizen discount (age 55 and up). The helpful cashier answered all of our many questions and helped us pick out our sauces. The secret is to wear the disposable gloves and use the wax paper piece, which is provided, to smoosh down everything in your bowl, so it can be filled as much as possible. The chefs cook your meal within minutes. There's a small bar with wonton crisps, white rice, and soup. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and were stuffed. I've been coming to different YC's locations for years now and they are still some of my favorite places to eat since my college days! It's been a while since I've hit one up and the first thing I notice is the price increase. Honestly the price jumps were quite noticeable but not enough to deter me from YC's at all. I still think you get a great deal- you can stack your bowl a lot with plenty left over to take home. You can see how much I was able to get with a "small" bowl and I still got to take some home! You can also get a side of soup, rice, a fountain drink, chips, and ice cream. I think you get plenty bang for your buck despite the price increases! Everything tastes great. There are lots of amazing veggie, meat, and sauce options to adorn your bowl with! My only big complaint is that the spicy beef soup is way too salty. Everything else is pretty good. Every single time I have gone to a YC's I've had exceptional service also. Everybody is so pleasant and it has been that way for years. They are glad to help with any questions or even building your bowl. This location is also very spacious, cleanly, and well-decorated. I ended up liking the udon noodles and beef as my focus ingredients but there were tons of veggie, noodle, and other meat options. I was randomly adding to their sauce recipes and really enjoyed the experience. My kids had the kids meal with the YCs classic sauce and loved it. They had fun picking their own ingredients and wanted to go back the next day. The hosts were super helpful and kept checking to see if we needed help and even mixed sauces for my kids which was wonderful. The place was busy but not terribly for a weekday evening and I never had to wait for than a couple minutes as the cooks prepared my various creations. I'd definitely come back to YC's. read more

I have been coming here consistently since they've opened this location. I absolutely love YC's and am so happy that they opened this one up since they closed their other location years ago. My favorite part about coming here is that I can always switch it up with the various options of add-ons that they offer. My personal favorite is adding lots of beef and chicken as their chicken here is the best. I also love to add, peanuts, edamame, water chestnuts, spinach, and bean sprouts. After the add ons I always get a big helping of noodles and make their special YC's own sauce to add on top. The cooks here always grill quickly and I enjoy watching the process of my food grilling. I also like to add some extra toppings that they have at the grilling station such as soy sauce and sesame seeds. The ambience during dinner time is always great and I appreciate the free ice cream offered during then. I stack to the HEAVENS and start with a HUNK A MEAT, then veggies, onions and keep going down the line to customize with sauce flavor combinations.
