    House Lo Mein
    Terri R.

My BF wanted to grab something quick for a late lunch. We went to Mandarin Kitchen and were greeted warmly by the woman working. It's a nicely decorated and inviting place and we commented that we would have enjoyed dining in because of the aesthetic vibes. We were in a hurry so just ordered a House Lo Mein to go. We love these noodles! The Lo Mein had so much flavor and a good portion size as well. It was really packed in the take out container. We kept commenting how we wished we had this place back home. Definitely recommend!

Small dining room, nice and clean. Compact menu compared to most Chinese restaurants, but I'd rather they do a few things well (they do) than do lots of things poorly. The staff is exceptionally friendly. Our waitress must've spent 15 minutes talking to us! Portions are large and exceptionally well executed. I had the beef chow fun noodles and it was absolutely perfect - flavorful, tender beef, just enough sauce, and a good number of bean sprouts which really make the dish. Two of us had the house special kung pao which they both said was excellent. One had the orange chicken which looked beautiful. 3/4 of us had enough to take home for another meal. Highly recommended - we will be back for more!

Stopped in here after seeing a movie tonight and was super impressed. The Mongolian beef had a really great sauce that was slightly sweet but also spicy. The Orange chicken was crispy, sweet, and spicy and our entrees came with a big old bowl of rice. Everything was delicious! Our server was very friendly and made sure everything was good for us. The restaurant is small but they fit a good amount of tables in there. It's also super clean! Definitely check it out and get the Mongolian beef!

My friends and I ordered takeout while we were staying in Arizona. All the meals came with fried rice. I got the chicken lo mein which tasted really good. I like they have chilli oil instead of just soy sauce and duck sauce. The thank you note was so sweet. I only took a star because the fried rice wasnt the best. It didn't taste like a fresh batch at all. If that was different, it would've been a perfect meal.

My daughter wanted some egg drop soup so we came here. I typically do not like Chinese food. However this was beyond delicious. The orange chicken was by far the best I've ever had and the fried rice was outstanding. They give you a cream cheese wonton and spring roll with every lunch special. The service was quick and easy and the food came out fast.

Not sure why this place doesn't have better reviews!! Partner and I were visiting AZ for a tournament and we were craving Chinese food. Though there are very few in the Tempe/Scottsdale area, this place definitely hit the mark!!! Employees are super nice, food is amazing and the portions are huge. We ended up here 3 times within the week and a half we were here. I've had the beef broccoli, the beef with mixed vegetables and the pepper steak with onions, all 10/10 would recommend!!

Really enjoyed the lunch special of Szechaun chicken with fried rice and cream cheese wonton for $12. White meat was good as was sauce. Only improvement needed was the egg roll, which was more like a spring roll.

Ordered two dishes and both were good! The vegetables were stir fried just right, with enough crunch left! Mapo tofu sauce was flavorful and not salty! Heat was lowered per request. Small, clean dining area with beautiful landscape wallpaper and cute umbrellas above. Service was prompt and server polite.

Thank you note. What a nice touch!

My group and I traveled from California to attend an event and to celebrate my birthday. Following our meeting, we conducted a local food search on Yelp and decided to dine at Mandarin Kitchen. This establishment boasts a compact location with friendly staff who exhibit warm smiles and pleasant personalities. I have a particular fondness for Thai Milk Tea, especially when it is expertly prepared to achieve a perfect balance of sweetness. The Thai Milk Tea at Mandarin Kitchen is indeed flawlessly balanced. For lunch, I ordered the Chef's Special Kung Pao Delight and Edamame. The vegetables were crispy and cooked to perfection. The Kung Pao sauce was flavorful and not overly spicy. I am thoroughly enjoying my birthday celebration at Mandarin Kitchen.

Service was excellent, very friendly. Ambiance of food was excellent. The price is very reasonable. First night I had the Mongolia Beef was excellent. Second time I had Tofu with mushrooms outstanding. Highly recommend!

At Mandarin kitchen. First time here and hoping for a good experience. Let's find out.

It's close to the house, easy for a laid-back lunch, and one of those places you end up recommending without even thinking about it. I've worked my way through most of the menu at this point, and I honestly can't remember a single miss. The food is consistently fresh, full of flavor, and cooked the way it should be. No shortcuts, no off days. I usually land on the crispy rice clay pot, which has that perfect mix of texture and depth. My wife goes straight for the lemongrass rice plate every time and doesn't even consider switching it up. That alone tells you something. We almost always start with a couple orders of spring rolls. Mix it up depending on the mood. They're light, fresh, and a good way to ease into the meal without overthinking it. The place itself is on the smaller side, but that's part of the charm. It feels relaxed, not cramped. Clean every time we've been in, which is something I notice more than I probably should. Service hits that sweet spot too. Attentive, friendly, but they're not hovering over your shoulder while you're trying to eat. Prices are more than fair for what you're getting, especially considering how consistent everything is. If you're anywhere near Scottsdale and want Vietnamese that just gets it right without making a big show of it, this is an easy choice. We keep coming back, and that's about as honest a review as it gets.

When we walked in it had a very fishy smell, so it kind of made us second guess our choice. But we went for it anyhow. The greeter/server was very pleasant and sat us. It was very clean inside with ample space between seat. We browsed through the menu and started with our usual edamame and pot stickers. The edamame was salted well throughout where a lot of places just put the salt on top only. We ordered a couple varieties of sake which were both good. Out of all of the things we ordered the karange skewer was just a little more oily than were use to, but still good. The spicy salmon roll had really great flavor and the lollipop roll was probably one of the better versions that we have had. The musubi was giant to say the least, it was good, but offered a bit too much rice. Overall the food and service was great and we were very happy that we ended up here!

I love Japanese food so my decision was made. I drove over and parked in their complimentary lot. Ambiance (3.5/5): I've been to Japan and there are plenty of izakayas there. Think of them as small bars which often serve solid food. Zu fits that bit. It's a relatively small restaurant, probably seats about 30 people. and it's pretty no frills for a Japanese spot. I was seated at a booth in the corner of the restaurant. They have free WiFi which is always a good touch. Service (3/5): Service was friendly, though a bit inconsistent. My waitress wasn't as attentive as I would have liked. The type of service where you have to flag them down to get what you want and to close out. Drinks (4/5): Zu has a nice menu of Japanese and Korean beverages, including sake, soju, Japanese beer, and more. With that being said, I just had an iced green tea. Food (4/5): I got a nice variety. I went with the Japanese sausage off of the grill menu, the OBI mayo roll off of the sushi menu, and the cheese corn off of the appetizer menu. Let's start with the sausage. It's a small item, two small sausages, but absolutely delicious. The sausage was bursting with flavor and basted in a sweet sauce. Minus the portion size, perfection. The cheese corn also hit the spot, but the execution was off. The corn is served on a hot platter, and unfortunately some of the corn on the edges was badly burnt. The type of situation where they should start over. Which they didn't. Lastly, the OBI mayo roll is essentially a California roll with marinated warm shrimp on top in a mayo sauce. I didn't love the hot and cold combo (shrimp and sushi), but outside of the temperature, it was a delicious roll. All in all, a very food meal. My only gripe with Japanese food is that it can get expensive quick. Given that Zu is in Tempe, I was hoping that prices would be a little cheaper. With that being said, they do have a solid happy hour (and reverse happy hour) with both food and drink specials. Next time I stop by, I'd like to check out some of their Korean options. I focused on the Japanese stuff this time (which makes the majority of the menu). Next time around, the bulgogi is calling my name!

Best with marinated steak.). My wife likes the Pasta Fresca (rigatoni noodles in balsamic vinaigrette, olive oil, roasted garlic, red onion, roasted tomato and spinach, topped with parmesan). We ordered Chicken Parmesan and Pasta Fresca for pick-up yesterday. The dishes came out good but the option of substituting a Pasta Fresca vegetable to the roasted zucchini was not option any longer, which was disappointing. We also ordered the Cheesy Garlic Bread (Parmesan and garlic butter melted over toasted petite baguette with Italian seasonings and marinara sauce), which was very tasty, too. The service is typically hit or miss. Upon entering, we were free to seat ourselves and chose a booth by the wall. It was not busy at all and the service was quick and friendly. We started off with a large sake bomb paired with a Kirin Light ($15). We then ordered two Tonkotsu Ramens, one medium spice and one hot spice ($15.99 each). Honestly, the hot spice level did not taste spicy at all, so I would recommend going extra hot if you like spice. They also provide chili powder on the table if you want to add more spice yourself. The ramen broth itself could have used a tad more flavor. I lightly added some soy sauce to the broth which is something I often do to add a little kick. I loved all of the toppings included, from the green onions to the kikurage (wood ear mushroom). My favorite part was the pork chashu, which was really tender and delicious. I also appreciated that the ramen came with a full soft boiled egg rather than half an egg, and the egg was perfectly runny. Before leaving, we ordered their tea special that was buy one get one. We got a matcha milk tea and a cafe latte which I forgot to take a photo of. I felt like the cafe latte could have used a little more sweetness to balance it. Also, I found it neat that Nishikawa offers a rewards program, not something I see often at ramen shops. My true rating would be 4.5 due to some of the criticisms I mentioned above, but overall I still had a good experience. Thank you for serving us. Visited 5/2/26

I sat there for several minutes and when she came back, she asked if I was ready to order. I asked for a menu and then she tapped this little sign on the table that had a QR code on it. I guess they want you to use your phone to look up the menu but then she brought me a printed menu and a glass of water. I had about a minute to look at the menu before the waitress came back and asked what I wanted. I ordered the small portion of the chicken karaage appetizer and the Nishikawa Black Ramen. Both items came out at about the same time. The chicken was good and there was a lot which somewhat surprised me because I thought they had given me a large portion by mistake. The only downside was that the plate was really small so the chicken kept tumbling onto the table. The ramen was just ok. It came in a really big bowl and there was a lot of broth and toppings but relatively little noodles in comparison. It was more like a bowl of soup. The slice of pork was huge but a little bit chewy when I was expecting it to be tender. The egg wasn't sliced so it was difficult to pick up the entire piece with my chopsticks. The chicken was $7 and the ramen was $18. I would have been ok just getting the chicken, perhaps a large portion for $12. I wouldn't get this particular ramen again. With tax and a tip my total was a little over $31 which isn't the most I've spent at a ramen restaurant, but it wasn't cheap either. I wasn't offered a refill on my drink until after I had paid and was ready to leave. In fact, I only saw the waitress once after my food was brought out, and that was when she brought me the bill. The rest of the time she was somewhere in the kitchen.
