I happened to be coming out of the Dollar Tree store & caught a glimpse of this new restaurant in this center I was in. So I pulled my phone out and looked it up, of course on Yelp and to my surprise, it was Korean food, not only Korean food, but very authentic Korean food, which I love. So I moseyed on over there and ordered some food to go. I was greeted by the hostess who was very friendly with a smile. The restaurant was clean and had good energy. After the closing, I looked for a nearby Korean restaurant and was pleasantly surprised to find Baragi Korean Restaurant only about four miles away, so I decided to stop in for lunch. Upon arriving, I was informed that it was already 2:15 p.m. and that I had 15 minutes to place my order. I would have appreciated a more welcoming explanation, especially if the kitchen was nearing closing, as I would have been happy to dine elsewhere if needed. I ordered the Yookgaejang (beef soup). The soup itself was decent, and the side dishes were better than decent. However, the beef was quite tough, and I was disappointed by the overall service attitude. Fun, new Korean spot in Scottsdale! Took my friend there for her birthday dinner and we enjoyed our time. The place is small and intimate, and the staff is very friendly and attentive. The food was pretty good! Not the best Korean food I've had in Phoenix, but it was pretty solid. The only thing I would absolutely skip is the scallion pancake - it's served as a side, but ours were cold and sopping wet with oil. The meat was good quality and seasoned well! My friends and I were craving Korean food while we were in town so we decided to come try Baragi out. Before stepping into the restaurant, we were able to smell the smokiness of their grilled meats from our car. It's a pretty small restaurant & it was completely filled when we went on a Saturday evening. Luckily, there was one table left & we were able to be seated as soon as we walked in. When they handed us the menu, I was shocked by how detailed and beautiful it was. Every meal was a set with their own banchan! The banchan is usually family style so I was impressed when I saw this. We ordered the LA galbi set with spicy and mild sundubu. It took around 10-15 minutes before our meals were delivered. The banchan consisted of: kimchi, bean sprouts, seaweed, cucumber kimchi, picked cabbage, japchae, & this mini egg/flour pancake. I was not a fan of their kimchi at all since it tasted very sour. I loved all their other banchan, especially their seaweed & pickled cabbage. Their soup was packed with so much flavor, it was incredible. My only complaint was that it was too salty & I had to add more water to their soup. Overall, I really enjoyed this meal! A big plus was that DQ was next door. I've been to Baragi twice now with two different groups of friends, and both times were so good. The first time we went around 6 pm. It wasn't too busy when we walked in, but after we ordered, the place suddenly filled up. We were so glad we got there early. The second time was weekday lunch, and there was no wait at all. Super easy. The menu is pretty simple, but everything we've tried has been solid. Between the two visits, we ordered the Bibimbap Combo, Sundubu Combo, Yookgaejang, Dolsot Bibimbap, and Macjeok. Everything was flavorful, comforting, and really filling. I also love that everyone gets their own banchan. I'm sorry, I just don't like sharing mine. One thing I really appreciate is that the food is well seasoned but not overly salty. We didn't leave feeling super thirsty, which is always a good sign. This is a cozy but very clean restaurant. And you don't smell like the food when you leave the restaurant. I really dislike when I smell like food or grease upon leaving any restaurant. There's only 1 server, but it's too small inside to require more than that. There are only about 6 tables inside. The server was definitely attentive. There is outdoor seating which is very clean and well taken care of. In the winter time, it's a great place to people watch. The food was very good. And I liked that you don't share banchan with people; you basically get your own and your friends get their own. Each combo meal also came with a dollar size jeon which was nice and thin...just the way I prefer it. They don't appear to have fountain drinks and all of the drinks came in plastic bottles so no free refills. But I agree with a previous reviewer, the food here was some of the best I've Korean I've had in the area. Normally kimchi isn't that great at any Korean restaurant-too old, too soggy, just ick. Not at Baragi. It wasn't so fresh that the fermentation process hasn't started, but it wasn't so old that it should be turned into kimchi jiggae. It was just perfect. The prices were also very reasonable for the quality and quantity of the food. My soondubu came out piping hot. My friend's bibimbap was just a titch too sweet, but this place definitely doesn't cater to an Americanized palate. It's definitely for Koreans who want real Korean food. They don't do AYCE or Korean BBQ like a Gen or Manna. The tables aren't set up for grilling which was fine by me. Korean food is more nuanced than KBBQ. The menu is smaller than most places, but I'd rather come here and get a good meal than go somewhere else with 60 items on the menu that are done mediocre. A wonderful new addition to the area! Finally, a Korean restaurant in this part of Scottsdale that offers authentic dishes, some of which you wouldn't find anywhere else within a five-mile radius. We've been here a couple times since they've opened, and service has always been warm, kind and friendly. The interior is small, but comfortably cozy and clean. Out of all the dishes we've tried so far, our top two favorites would have to be the macjeok (pork dish), and the sundubu combo with LA galbi. The meat in both dishes were very tender and bursting with a good balance of sweet and savory flavor. They are also quite generous with their provided side dishes and some of the side dishes vary per visit. Clean new establishment. Went for lunch and unfortunately got a server who was new. She barely knew what was being offered and throughout my time had to be hailed to get water or banchan refilled. That being said the food was at best meh. All the banchan dishes were terrible compared to Hodori or Chodang. Was really sad that their japchae and kimchi were just passable at best. haha very similar to my other reviews on asian food as I've galavanted across the midwest of the US, baragi is kind of a stunning spot just outside of scottsdale. while it DOES NOT COMPARE to LA's korean scene, it feels pretty deeply authentic for what it is and I'm kind of also obsessed with all of their copper bowls. we got many things, which they all do in different sets and serve with bancheon. the service WAS a little slow I will say, so that's the small ding on their end, but the food was quite flavorful and the kimchi / pickles were all really good. highly highly recommend checking it out if you're in the area! read more

We went in during lunch and ordered bibimbap + tteokgalbi (Korean hamburger patties) combo, dak gui (grilled chicken), and macjeok (marinated pork). The food was beautifully presented and tasted even better than it looked!! My favorite was definitely the dak gui -- the meat was so juicy and the marinade was so flavorful. We were really excited to try this place on our first night in town, especially after reading so many great reviews comparing it to food in Seoul. Unfortunately, our experience didn't live up to those expectations. I ordered the soondubu and LA galbi combo. The soondubu was quite disappointing--it had heat, but very little depth of flavor. The LA galbi also fell short, as it didn't seem well-marinated and lacked the rich, savory taste you'd normally expect. The kimchi and banchan were also underwhelming, which was surprising given how important those elements are to a great Korean meal. That said, the service was genuinely excellent--friendly, attentive, and welcoming, which we really appreciated. After many failed attempts at this location, I'm happy to report that there's finally a great restaurant here. I got the bulgogi bibimbap which comes with plenty of banchan (side dishes). The portion was plentiful, very fresh, and obviously cooked with love. The banchan wasn't too saucy or too garlicky. They all had a good taste and complimented the meal. Compared to most other Korean places I've been, they really stood out. The bibimbap itself was also very tasty, especially with the gochujang. It was a little bit salty, but not too much. Very solid taste all-around. For the price, this is easily one of the best meals in the area. And honestly, the service from the owner Chad made the whole experience that much better. He was very kind and attentive, and even offered a free plum drink for me to try. In my opinion, this is the best Korean food around here, and probably the best in all of Scottsdale. Tried this place with family upon my daughter's suggestion. We were not disappointed. Small, very clean and with a friendly atmosphere. Min was alone serving the whole place and did a great job. We wanted to try different dishes, so ordered combo plates with Korean burger patties, chicken and beef soup. They were served in large trays with refillable side dishes. They were all outstanding! Baragi is really good! Was it the best Korean I've ever had? No, but that's only because places like Hawaii (where I grew up) and Seattle (where I have family) have far better ethnic food but I'm happy Baragi is here. My sister and I each had a stone pot Dolsot with tofu and the portions were quite large. The kimchi sides were pretty tasty and I believe you can just ask for more (not that we needed to). We both took home more than half of our meals because of the portion size. No complaints about that! Can't wait to go back soon. read more
