7.18.26 - family wanted to go out to eat so we decided on this place. I have been once years ago with some friends but can't remember if I ate or not. I just remember we were seated at the tables toward the right side and it was hot. I decided to give it another try and also wanted cold noodles again after eating it on my recent LA trip. Now I'm on the hunt for the place with the best kimchi cold noodles in AZ (on the east side). I ordered the Radish Neang Myun while my family shared the Lettuce wrap w/ spicy pork, Galbi and Kimchi pancake. The Lettuce wrap combo also came with soy bean stew. The Radish Neang Myun was refreshing on a hot day. I prefer mine with a more spicy kimchi flavor. I added in some from the banchan with lots of vinegar and some hot mustard. My family liked the lettuce wrap and meats but my mom said the soybean paste stew was salty. Wish they offered kimchi stew instead of soybean paste stew, or give the option to choose one or the other. I tried a piece of the kimchi pancake and felt it needed more kimchi flavor and some scallions to add some color to it. The spicy citrus soy sauce it came with wasn't spicy at all. It just tasted like soy sauce. A sweet and salty sauce would taste good with it. Also, it needs a bigger sauce. That thing was tiny! Our server was great! I can't remember his name but he was attentive and checked on us often
I'm a little torn on this place, so I'm holding off on any final conclusions until my next visit--but here are my initial thoughts. **Pros:** - Fun interior with a lively, energetic atmosphere - Plenty of tables and space, great for larger groups - Solid Korean menu (I'm a big fan of Korean food in general) - Army stew was good and came in a very generous portion - Bossam was decent **Cons:** - Service could use improvement. The staff seemed young and a bit undertrained. They weren't bad, but not particularly attentive either. It was a busy Friday night, which is exactly when stronger management presence would help. - Food overall was good, but nothing stood out as exceptional which is usually a strong point at Korean restaurants. - Bossam didn't come with wraps or sides, which felt like it missed the point of the dish. It lacked that full, satisfying experience I was expecting - Prices felt a bit high for what you get I'll give it another try and update my review after my next visit.
This is a very good Korean restaurant; however, not great. The variety of banchan was very tasty. The Meat Jeon was good; however, the quality of the meat could be better and the egg wash did not stick to the meat. It is not the quality of Meat Jeon in Hawaii; however, it is a good alternative in Arizona. The Army Hot Pot could use a little more Kimchi spice; however, it does feed two people. This was the first time I had cold noodles and the Spicy Neang Myun was very good. The servers are very friendly. The food came out quickly; however, the servers could have been more attentive afterwards. The shoji screens between the tables and the backlit shoji windows added to the ambiance. This is a good family-style Korean restaurant without the smoky smell found in Korean BBQ restaurants.
We stopped by here on a weekday for dinner. The place is pretty spacious and clean, and I like how they use curtains and wooden dividers between tables. It gives it a cozy Korean feel. We ordered the rice cake & dumpling soup, jokbal, spicy beef soup, and the hangover ramen. The rice cake & dumpling soup was nice and comforting. I liked the texture of the rice cakes--really chewy--and the dumplings were good too. It was our first time trying jokbal. Honestly, we didn't know what to expect, but we ended up liking it. The portion was huge, and the pork was tender and tasty. The spicy beef soup had a bit of a kick, and the hangover ramen was also good. The broth was rich, and there were a lot of ingredients in it. Everything we tried was good, and I'm glad we came to try this place.
Amazing food! We love the jokbal (pig feet) here, which comes with sauce and garlic and an onion salad. The minced neon was also tasty. The squid and bulgogi were also absolutely amazing. Great flavors and so many items on the menu to choose from! I also tried the short rib soup, and let's just say it was also yummy in my tummy ! I sipped the rest of the empty bowl without any shame. I've been here twice and will coming a third time as forever after that!! Plentiful seating but can get busy with food coming out slowly. Love the Korean decorations and clean bathroom as well.
The decor is super cute. And the food is just as good. We seated behind a partition that made us feel like the wait staff wasn't being as attentive, but it wasn't a problem. Our food took a little bit long to come out, but we had the ban chan to hold us over, we loved all of it. My favorite item was the kimchi pancake, it was just the right amount of funk and I ate the entire thing despite having my own entrée as well. The tofu soup was good, as was the bibimbap. Nothing was a miss an we didn't have any leftovers!
Came to dinner here last night on a whim and so glad we did. The decor inside is so nice and has a lot of Korean elements. The service was friendly and when we asked to sit at a bigger table for two, he kindly obliged. We got the boiled pork slices (bossam) and the Korean army stew. The food tasted great. We also enjoyed makgeolli and it was refreshing. The only complaint would be that for the bossam dish, it's an extra charge for lettuce. The name is literally translated to wrap so it's meant to be wrapped in leaves so I thought it was silly it wasn't included with the meal. It was about ~$100 for the two of us.
First time at Babo Jumak. The tteokbokki was really good: chewy rice cakes in a rich, spicy sauce that kept me coming back for more. Great dish as an appetizer/shared meal. I ordered the spicy pork bibimbap and it did not disappoint -- super flavorful with just the right amount of heat. The pork was tender and everything mixed together perfectly. Very large portion as well! Great service and nicely decorated. Definitely coming back to try more dishes!
Wow, this was my first time coming here and the food was amazing! The service was quick and efficient, and our server was incredibly attentive to everything we needed she kept coming back to refill our banchan sides. I ordered the lunch special of the day, which included a soybean cabbage soup with bulgogi and rice for $17.99. The lunch special is dependent on what the chef makes that day. The bulgolgi was so juicy and tender. My boyfriend got the bulgogi hot stone pot for $15.99. Both dishes were so, so good. I also loved the unlimited banchan sides. The interior of the restaurant was super cute and spacious - modern with a touch of historic Korean aesthetic. The menu had a wide variety of dishes, so I'll definitely be back!
I've been dying to try Babo Jumak since learning it replaced or renovated from Banchan! The interior is so cozy and spacious, and service was also attentive. The menu is quite varied, which was nice. We ordered several items, and the portions were a good size--definitely a great place to eat family style to try a bit of everything. Overall, the food was tasty and left a good impression. While I don't see myself craving any one of their particular dishes on a random Thursday, it's earned a place in our food outings rotation if I'm craving Korean food in general. Will definitely be back to try more dishes!
The food was absolutely delicious! The spicy beef bibimbap was not a common dish in Korean restaurants in the valley, and this is definitely worth trying! The beef was ice cold, which went so well with the veggies! The raw egg made the dish more creamy, making it so balanced. The spicy beef soup was one of my favorite too. They put a lot of mushrooms in the soup, and you don't usually get this flavor anywhere else. Love their banchan as well - super fresh and light! With all the decorations , this restaurant really makes you feel like visiting a restaurant in Korea. If you want a real Korean dinning experience, highly recommend!
Great renovations! The space is much cleaner and very spacious! The staff were very kind. We came during weekday lunch and it was empty. This restaurant is under different ownership I think(?).. they made this restaurant bigger with different items on the menu..: I ordered the cabbage short rib soup.. It was okay but it was a little bland.. The service was good and the interior design was cute compared to what it was when it was Ban Chan.

Brought a friend here that isn't too familiar with Korean food and it did not disappoint! After looking over the menu we decided to order a bunch of items to share family style, those items being: the kimchi pancake, cheese pork cutlet, soft tofu stew with seafood, galbi, spicy pork belly with a side of the lettuce wrap basket, and the spicy pork hot stone bibimbap. The items we thought we would like the most ended up being our least favorites, and the ones we were the most unsure about, we enjoyed the most. Our favorites included the spicy pork hot stone bibimbap, the spicy pork belly, and the cheese pork cutlet. All were cooked to perfection, respectively. Unfortunately, the kimchi pancake and the tofu stew were a bit too salty for us, and the galbi was overcooked. Overall, service was fast and friendly, and the portion sizes were worth the price. This place may look unassuming from the outside but it's quite spacious yet cozy on the inside with plenty of seating options. read more

I did not expect the inside to look like this! It's super neat and loved all the decorations. Ordered the beef tofu soup (3/5) and it was sweet for some reason. I'm used to savory and coming with an egg. The bimbimbop (4/5) was surprisingly more better, with the crunchy rice on the bottom. It was super good! We did ask for more gochujang All the banchans are delicious and the staffs were very attentive and kind. read more

I was so excited to try Babo Jumak, new Banchan. Their really remodeled the interior and it was so cool- old style Korean pub/diner feel and they added variety of Korean pancakes! We got to try Ssam bap (bulgogi or pork bulbogi with vegetables and a small soy bean stew). Side dishes were good, but when main came, we were quite disappointed. The portion got smaller than before, and bulgogi was lukewarm and also pretty salty. We might try again with other dishes, but ssam bap was pretty disappointing... read more

Decided to try this spot now that it had been taken over. They redecorated it really nicely inside. I think it looks quite inviting. The service is a little slow when it's really busy but they're super friendly. The beef bone soup (seolleongtang) was my favorite and I'll definitely be going back for that. They ran out of the beef tartare so we'll have to try that next time. The acorn jelly salad was an interesting texture but a refreshing addition to what we ordered. The Korean fried chicken bites were crispy and well seasoned. We also got the boiled pork slices (suyuk) which were really delicious. I wish it automatically came with lettuce as wraps but you'll have to ask for that separately. Overall, good experience and food. read more

Loved the service and food though please note that their menu is much different than what is showing in Yelp photos. It seems like it may have changed names/ownership and they no longer have the same menu (I had gone for soondubu/tofu soup, but they no longer had it). I tried the soybean soup, seafood pancake, mandu, and hot bibimbap and they were all great. I also loved the amount of complimentary bon chon that they provided. The thing that stood out the most from all this is the freshness of their ingredients. I do not have the best taste for freshness, but it was obvious that they were using good ingredients which made the foods so good I also really loved the traditional Korean decor and table setup. read more
I really enjoyed how fresh the vegetables tasted. We ordered the seafood pancake that was full of green onions and veggies. I really like the soup here, but a little sad that they don't include egg in their soondobu. The banchan is my favorite and sometimes it comes with egg and pickled cucumbers. Service is a little slow, especially when they are busy but overall a good place to come with a group of people! read more
I visited a few months ago when the weather was still quite warm. There were several of us who were seated together and while the restaurant was not overly busy, it was quite warm due to the air conditioning not working. We made the best of it and were able to enjoy many different dishes. I arrived a little late, so I didn't place my order with the rest of the group. I was able to enjoy a sampling of the tteokbokki and the japchae. The tteokbokki was nice and warm with a mild amount of spice. The japchae was cooked well but slightly greasy and my personal preference is to have more vegetables in it. The servers were attentive and we had a great time. The decor was simple yet nice. I am glad to know that this restaurant exists and will certainly try it again when I have a craving for Korean and I am too lazy to cook! read more

This was my first time here and it was so good!! I shared 2 dishes (bulgogi and kimchi stew) with my boyfriend and it was the perfect amount of food. Everything was super flavorful. We went with a group of 8 and everyone's dishes came out pretty quick. The server was attentive and always refilled our banchan. We will definitely be back! read more

Authentic Korean food. The decor reminds me of old school Korea. It was packed on a Saturday evening. The banchan came out and we ate it immediately because they were all so fresh and delicious. Kimchi isn't my favorite but this is one of the best I've had. We got the bossam and they said that the lettuce is an extra $5, which is a bit disappointing given that it should be eaten with lettuce. Bossam was good, could be a little bit less in the dry side. We got the kimchi and pork stew and the kimchi was amazing. The only negative was the pork which was mostly fat and too overcooked. We also got seafood pancake which was the best I've had here in the us. Not too thick and was crispy on the edges. Because they were so packed our waiter was a bit less attentive but we asked another waitress for spoons and she was so nice. After dinner we were chatting outside and the same waitress asked us if we wanted water or to comeback inside - so thoughtful and kind! This is definitely my new spot for Korean food - there's so much more I want to try, including the weekday Lunch, so I'll definitely be back! read more

Was pretty disappointed with this place as I was expecting a decent new Korean restaurant. I ordered the beef tartare bibimbap and the meat came out icy. When I bit into it, it was almost like a beef popsicle as it was still hard and not properly thawed. I sent it back to the kitchen and they just sent it back saying it was supposed to be icy. The server was very sweet and did let me order something else instead, which the regular bibimbap was good. Their seafood pancake as well was pretty decent. The interior was nice as well. read more
It was such a pleasure eating Korean food after really missing it for over a week! This is a 100% Korean-run restaurant with traditional dishes I have not seen in Toronto for a long time. I ordered a saellongtang which I haven't had in years. Spouse said his kimchi-jjigae was better than he gets at home. The panchan was fresh. The service was very pleasant and professional. The kalbi was an add-on and tasted delicious - tender and well-marinated. Only minor criticism is that the salleongtang was fattier than I generally like. The beef was well-cooked but a lot of added extra fat for flavour - some folks like it fattier. I would highly, highly recommend this Korean restaurant. I had a look at the hwae mul pajjeon (seafood pancake) someone ordered and it looked exceptional. They prepare traditional Korean dishes I have not seen in a long time in Toronto. We went on Saturday night, and the place was pretty busy. I come here often, and the food is usually fresh and delicious. However, this time it was a bit salty, and I mentioned it to the staff. Hopefully, they can adjust the seasoning in the future. We'll be back to give it another try. read more

Loved this place . Very neat and clean. Very friendly and informative. My son and I ordered the pork dumplings, steamed egg, meat jeon and the squid and pork bulgogi. The dumplings were fried, so they were very crispy. Decent amount of filling the had a great flavor and juicy. My favorite was the steamed egg. Served in heated bowl that retained the heat, keeping the egg sizzling for quite a while and browning, creating an extra flavor and texture. The egg was very savory and light and fluffy, like the best souffle you can have! Amazing! The meat jeans was ok. We felt it was a little bland. We remedied this by dunking it into squid and pork bulgogi sauce. The bulgogi was packed full of squid and pork. Great variety of textures, and plenty of a very tasty sauce, with a slight kick. The meal came with a wonderful variety of sides that included kimchi's, rolled egg omelet and very tasty fish cakes. This is a great spot. read more

Wow! I have been craving some cold spicy Korean noodles and this place is one of the few that seems to serve it. I ordered takeout, the atmosphere is 10/10! It's so beyond cute, and the staff were so friendly. The food was packaged beautifully and was incredibly tasty. I cant wait to go back and sit down to really enjoy the space. read more
