3rd time at Hanshin Pocha. I always enjoy my food here, but I always get the same thing (see pictures). My friends who came with me (first timers) thought their food was just okay. I tried my friend's seafood noodle dish and it tasted great to me. Her comment about it was it's messy to eat because of the shell on the shrimp and mussels. The servers are always nice. Definitely has been a spot I have wanted to try out since my recent Korea trip. It was such a perfect environment with plenty of Kpop bumping and great Korean bar food to enjoy. On top of that the service was great and very inviting We got the Soy Garlic Korean fried chicken that was so delicious and a good sized portion that can be shared between three or four people easily. It's that great KFC crunch that very juicy! We got the Spicy pork with cheese that really brought me back to eating Dak Galbi in Seoul. Came to meet up with a friend for dinner on a weekday and it wasn't very busy so we were quickly seated. The staff was very friendly and attentive, and they had a button on the table to call them over whenever you needed something. We got the grilled soy and butter squid, seafood pancake, and bugolgi hot pot. The grilled squid was our favorite part of the meal, the flavor was very umami, slight sweet, and very buttery. The texture of the squid was tender too and not chewy. The other two dishes were just okay though, the seafood wasn't really mixed into the pancake and more-so placed on top, which I think led to it being a little dry and chewy. But this is one is definitely one of the best locations I've been too in the U.S. I come here once a week just to eat their brisket Soondubu. However, my group found the soup a bit too spicy for our liking, but the waitress kindly offered to adjust it for us. We ended up ordering a variety of dishes including grilled squid, Ojingeo Bokkeum, Sunsal Chicken, Deep-fried whole chicken, Kimchi Jeongol, Dumplings, and DIY Rice Ball. The DIY Rice Ball activity was a hit, especially with the kids. Overall, the food was delicious, and we managed to handle the spiciness well. We are fortunate enough to have their second location right here in Mesa. This location is very spacious and located right off the 60 freeway. I like that the menu has photos of the food. Hanshin Pocha has a variety of appetizers and shared plates. Being a cheese lover, I ordered the Pork Barbecue with Cheese and Gochujang Sauce. It made for some fun cheese pull videos. The DIY Rice Balls came as a mix and were fun to make. Army Stew was a pleasant surprise and is named after leftover U.S. Army rations from the Korean War that make up the ingredients in the soup. I'm looking forward to trying some fried chicken and rolled omelets my next visit. What made our evening more fun was that we had someone from Korea in our party that shared with us some history of Korean food. I hope Hanshin Pocha means damn good cuz the food here is damn good!!! Highly recommend the steamed eggs, Oden-Tang fish cake soup, and pork bbq with cheese and Gochijang sauce!! Absolute heaven!! They don't have an extensively large menu, but they made sure that the dishes that they do serve are top notch!! All the servers were very nice and sweet! They came by to check up on us multiple times, and made sure we were well taken care of. However, we had to wait around half an hour before we were able to get our take out boxes and check. I think the servers thought we were doing well and didn't come by to check up on us when we were ready for the check until we had to wave them down. They have a button that they encourage you to push when you're ready to order, and maybe we should've pushed that button when we were ready to check out as well, but we felt the sound was very obnoxious when we pushed the button, so we tried to refrain from pushing it. If you're ok with pushing the button and letting the servers know you need assistance, then go for it! I guess they have it there for a reason!! The restaurant was a good size with very comfy booth seating. Overall, very nice ambiance!! Even the breast meat was so moist. Although it was served with salt/pepper, didn't need any because it was perfectly seasoned. Very spicy and they weren't able to adjust the spice level; however, it was served with cold bean sprout soup. The chicken items took longer so I was served the egg dish first. =ORDERED= *Tomato Sauce Gyeran Mari: rolled egg stuffed with mozzarella cheese and tomato meat sauce. There was a satisfying cheese pull and the egg was fluffy. The tomato sauce had minimal beef flavor and was on the watery side. Wished the sauce was rendered longer and had more spices as most of the flavor came from only the sauce. Considering the dish had little complexity and variety in ingredients, $18 was a bit much. *Sunsal Chicken: their green onion rendition wasn't available so I ordered it with fries instead. Came with ketchup and sweet and sour sauce. The batter was plain and light which made it ideal for dipping. I was impressed by the crispness of the chicken and fries and neither felt overly greasy. Chicken was still juicy and this dish was worthwhile. Service was attentive and with their finished opening phase, I can see this being a hit restaurant. However, this wouldn't be my first spot for solo dining or date night. The portion sizes and almost $20 price tag for every dish lends itself towards larger gatherings. Personally I would want to see smaller appetizers or more shareables as options as the menu primarily consists entrees.
