I wanted some Korean food and we were some what close so decided to come here. I believe I came here many years ago but not 100%. Ordered yukgaejang, Seoul leong tang, and spicy pork bulgogi.. Well, my mom said this place is known for soup which I can agree. Both of the soup was yummy. Yukgaejang was nice and spicy and pretty decent amount of veggies and meat. Seoul leong tong was also pretty dang good. Nice harty broth. Side dishes were actually pretty darn good. Now for bulgogi was sub par. It wasn't bad but definitely not worth the money. I honestly don't know what happened to Chodang but we came here around 7 on a Friday night... And the restaurant was literally empty! I've never seen it this empty before.. The waiter also didn't know what "seafood" came in the mixed seafood tofu soup.. the only thing he could say was "it came in a pack.." after the food was served there was absolutely no follow up or anything and we were the only ones in there for a good 30-40 minutes before somebody else came in.. the food was okay but I don't think I'll make any effort to come back here again.. read more

What a hidden gem in Chandler!! The outside looks very unsuspecting and is nothing fancy, but once you step inside you'll know you're going to get some good Korean food. The owners were so friendly and fun to chat with. They moved from Seattle and started this restaurant 2ish years ago; and the mom makes everything from scratch!! I've always wanted to try neng myun and this was the perfect 110-degree day in AZ to do that! I brought a friend that had never had Korean food and we were both amazed at how good everything was. The neng myun was so flavorful, refreshing, and filling! The bibim neng myun had the perfect spice level for me (mild). All the banchan was fantastic. I'm not just a foodie, I'm a tofu-die Oof, I hate updating a review but with new owners comes new flavors and these new flavors ain't it for me. I came for some mandoo soon dubu and a kimchijeon. Once the place for my favorite soon dubu, but now? Not so much. I'm use to the soup coming to the table boiling violently with a temperature similar to the surface of the sun. Not this time. I could probably have soon dubu every day and not be bored but not if it's from Chodang. While not entirely unsatisfying, I would rather spend my money elsewhere to have a gooey egg and for it to be brought to the table looking like a small witch's cauldron full of simmering egg and soft tofu. As for the kimchijeon, it was decent, albeit a bit greasy. My family enjoys this place so I'll probably be back but if it's my choice, I'd rather go to some of the other local spots around town for soup. Bonnie is super cool though so tip well! read more

Wow!! Truly some of the best Korean food we've had! The portion sizes are huge but the biggest standout is the flavor. The owner spoke to us and essentially said the secret to the quality was her mother! The flavors are incredible and may even exceed some of the best Korean food I've had along the west coast. It is always a shame to give a restaurant a poor review but sometimes a truly poor experience justifies it. First my family and I had to wait a bit to order food and the server seemed disgruntled that we wanted some tea instead water. Then after we ordered, we had to wait nearly 45 minutes for food. While I don't have an issue waiting that long, the server didn't bring any banchan till 30 minutes in. Since we were naturally hungry, we ate some and asked when our ordered rice would come. When the rice finally arrived with the rest of the food, we asked for a refill on side dishes and was told there would be a charge for it. Not only was this a surprise to me as a place has never charged me for refills, she also told us if we ordered just one dish, we could have gotten unlimited ones. This information was not disclosed to us at all during ordering and it seemed like the other tables got many refills so we had reason to suspect we could not as well. In terms of food, the dishes were fine, but it was hard to enjoy in lieu of the bad service. The final nail in the coffin though was handing us the bill almost immediately after giving us the food and like the rest of the meal said nothing to us. The friendly service provided to the other tables was a stark difference to our experience. Unfortunate that this was one of the few meals I enjoyed in town during my short time visiting family. Was craving Korean food so decided to return to Chodang since I haven't been back after new ownership. Arrived around 6pm on a Thursday night and we were the only customers. The place looks the same as before. We ordered the raw marinated crabs, kimchi jeon, and galbi. The price is pretty steep. It was $45 for the crabs and $28 for the galbi. But the food tasted really good. I would go back for the crabs. It also comes with soybean soup which was tasty but a tad bit too spicy for my personal taste. read more

My husband and I came here to grab some food to go for lunch. I ordered the soft tofu soup and he got the kalbi. The customer service was great. The hostess was friendly and kindly offered us to sit as we waited for our food. The place was clean and food also came out quickly. The tofu soup was very flavorful but I got more tofu than the gopchang in my to go order. I loved the purple rice and sides that they paired with the order nevertheless. The kimchi cucumber was my favorite side. My husband thought the kalbi was deliciously made but he felt like the amount he received for one of their pricier items on the menu wasn't justified. There were only 8 pieces in his order for $30ish dollars. Overall, the food was delicious and we would return to try their other dishes, probably to dine in next time. Came here after a friend recommended it. It's a small, unassuming restaurant that is family owned. I must admit I was skeptical, as I've never had a true Korean dining experience. This place surpassed my expectations. The owner was so friendly and generous. I wish I remembered her name because she was awesome. Her mom comes in everyday to cook. They bring out various kimchi starters and I was impressed. I've had kimchi before, but the kimchi radish, potatoes, and cucumbers were DELICIOUS. It had the perfect tang and spice level. Not too spices but enough to tickle the tongue. Wasn't overly sour either. The spicy beef soup, yukgaejung, was AMAZING. The broth was deep with flavor and this one does have some spice. Generous portion of beef in there. The glass noodles were delicious and the addition of egg was wonderful. The Haemul Pa Jeon was HUGE. Easily shared amongst the 3 of us. Great flavor and I loved the soy-vinegar accompaniment. I was skeptical about the seafood inside but it was great and not fishy. Finally, the L.A. Galbi.. so good! There was a sweetness and savory-ness to them that I enjoyed. So delicious and again, generous portions. Are you noticing a theme here? There was another soup we tried that I didn't not have a picture of so I won't mention it. I think this was a perfect first experience for me. I'm so glad we went and will 100% go back. My mom was in the mood for Korean food and I had heard some wonderful things about this place so we went on a Saturday and the lovely co-owner welcomed us and made us feel at home. She gave us some wonderful recommendations and a little history about how their place came to be. They had a restaurant in Seattle and came down to Arizona a few years back, focusing more on traditional dishes rather than fusion. All I can say is that tradition is delicious! They have the best kimchi I have ever had and I've eaten at so many Korean restaurants, both here and in LA's Koreatown. I should have bought some to take home! Their Hameul Pajeon was wonderfully light and crispy, studded with seafood, and I finished my share wayyyyy too quickly! The spicy squid & vegetable stir-fry was delicious but that heat definitely began to build. I'm a bit of a wimp so I'm probably not the best at gauging spice, but it was still delicious and worth the burn! The Budae Jigae is something I have always heard about, but never had the chance to try, but I'm so glad I did! The spam made it super savory and not overly salty like I had originally feared. It was savory and had so many diverse but harmonious flavors that I think I might be rather addicted to it now.
