Sweet! Another good dining choice at Scottsdale and Thunderbird! Served by a genuine Thai grandma, cooked by another! Stopped on a Thursday at 3pm for a late lunch. No lunch menu but dishes are reasonable. Starving so ordered water first, and a single serve Tom yum gai soup (chicken) in medium heat before ordering meals. I could hear the preparation begin in the back immediately, although it didn't come out much before the entrees. It was worth the wait. Bright orange spicy oil on top, fragrant tangy, salty and loaded with nearly raw mushrooms. For me, this soup was the perfect blend of flavors. I will crave this soup next time I get a sore throat. While the soup and water were coming, we perused the short menu of mostly familiar Thai dishes. I chose a chicken red curry, companion chose the basil chicken. I should have ordered the curry medium because it was a little heavy on the coconut. It had a nice rich flavor and still a little spice but mild plus did not come through in the translation and I failed to ask for hot sauce to zing it up. The chicken portion was plentiful although not as tender as I would have liked. The vegetables in the curry as listed on the menu included carrots, peppers, green beans, bamboo shoots and squash (specifically Kabocha squash was listed). They had substituted zucchini in my dish, which is actually a food sensitivitynfir me. So I picked them out, fortunately there were not but six pieces. However the menu should just say squash if you're not going to honor the specified variety. Otherwise a solid standard red curry. The dish I would definitely order again is the garlicky basil chicken. Yes, it had a Thai name, and I can only tell you it was the second stir fry on the paper menu, sorry. I looked online and the menu looks different. We ordered it mild so it had no chilies, but a rich brown savory gravy that we both literally mopped up using all the rice. I also failed to get a picture of this dish shame on me. Next time! And I look forward to trying the broccoli noodle Pad Se Ew next time too. Middle of the afternoon with one other table occupied and this was an extremely leisurely lunch. Don't plan on a quick meal here unless you order ahead and take it to go. After reading other reviews we really wanted to enjoy this. Picked up some pad thai (spicy) and crab puffs to take back to the hotel. The crab puffs were pretty standard, nothing special. The dipping sauce was bland. I was really surprised by the pad thai - it was not spicy at all, the flavors were pretty dull, the beef was there but not interesting. They also almost forgot the thai coffe, which was good but WAY richer than I was ready for. Maybe it was just a bad time to get takeout, 3pm on new years eve. read more

I love Thai food but sometimes it can get a bit pricey to order so I try to keep it as a once in a while thing! I ordered online and had my husband pick up. He said it felt weirdly business-y in there but he had no issues with pick up! It is a big pet peeve of mine when Thai restaurants pack their curry in containers that cannot hold curry so it spills all over, and that was an issue here. One thing I thought was very weird was you don't get to choose your spice level and they don't give you spice to add. This was one of the blandest curries I've had, pretty disappointing. A plus was that the veggies were fresh, loved the squash especially! For $17 I would definitely not return but at least got to check another Thai place off my list! read more

Considering we have not found any great Thai restaurants here this was a pleasant surprise. Please forgive correct spelling of items. Spring rolls were a 10 . Chic satay a 4 Chic on a stick a 9 Pad Thai was an 8 Drunken noodles were a 10 Another chicken dish and pad gro ? 6 For the most part everything was good. There are not any seafood or fish dishes. Too much chicken. IMO. But would order again. The shrimp pad Thai had very small shrimp & only a few. It would be better to charge more & get prawns for at least an option. read more

One of the most bland and tasteless Thai food we've ever eaten especially after visiting Thailand multiple times. The Tom Kha Soup looked terrible and the coconut milk had curdled in it. Mushroom were large button size pieces. It was sour like hell and nothing like authentic flavorful Tom kha gai that has basil and lemongrass usually. The Red Curry had such mushy and over cooked vegetables in it. Taste also was not authentic. The Chicken Pad Gra Pao was also disappointing and overall do not do justice to authentic Thai cuisine. A hidden gem! Yod's Thai Eatery absolutely hit the spot. I ordered the Panang curry and drunken noodles with tofu, and both were packed with flavor -- rich, balanced, and cooked with real heart. I don't understand how this place has good reviews. My husband and I were excited to try. We walked in and immediately saw it's a family owned restaurant. I'm guessing, mom, dad and daughter. We were telling each other this place is going to be so good. We ordered to start the egg roll. This was decent nothing spectacular. We also got the pineapple fried rice ( I was so excited about this) and it was horrible! No flavor whatsoever. So bummed. Then we ordered our entree. What a disappointment. Both lacked complete flavor, which was bazaar, I thought. The pork on my plate did not look appetizing at all, so I picked it out. We tasted it and both agreed it was not good. My husband had to put so much soy sauce just to get it to taste like something. He barely ate it. He took his to go, because he didn't want to be rude, then he threw it out. Such a waste. I definitely don't recommend this place and won't be coming back. I was debating whether to do this review just because I really wanted this place to be exceptional just because it's family owned. One good, one poor, that's not good enough. Most Thai restaurants only serve soups in a big bowl, good for maybe 2-4 persons. Yod offers single person servings; great I thought. Well it was not. Soup was mostly water with a few mushrooms floating on the top. May be the worst Thai soup I ever had. A good Thai soup can be a uniquely satisfying experience. Here, there is nothing satisfying about drinking some dishwater. The other dish was a red curry, and this was fine. But one out of two is just not good enough. This is a small mom and pop shop. It's cozy but modern on the inside with a small patio on the outside. Every item was absolutely fantastic. They were able to make the Pad Thai gluten free. The red curry and Tom Kha Gai were outstanding and bursting with flavor and were also safe gluten free options. I think the Tom Kha Gai was the best I've ever tasted. On top of the amazing food and friendly service, the prices can't be beat. I literally can't praise this place enough and can't wait to come back! read more

We've ordered take out from Yod Thai on several occasions. The food is generally good but tonight was dissapointing. Pad Thai with chicken was tasty but conspicuously uncontaminated by chicken. Had to search for it. Woman taking order in phone seemed to have language problem and it was not easy getting our order taken accurately. We've had issues with wrong orders here before forcing us to return( and asked to return the food they mistakenly gave us). Check your order carefully. Same with the Drunken Noodles, a noticeable lack of chicken. Flavors were good but I can't help but think this practice is intentional as it's not the first time we've noticed. We understand that inflation affecting restaurant costs are a serious concern for owners but cutting costs in this way isn't an answer. If prices need to go up then so be it. I can accept that. Can't comment on ambience as we only get take out. Will be hesitant to return any time soon. read more

What a delight gem of a restaurant!! The food is fresh and delicious! Each dish is made from scratch with distinctive seasonings. We tried six (6) different dishes and loved each one. The menu is modest and provides a nice representation of Thai cuisine. Our server was attentive and yet not intrusive. The restaurant itself was clean and intimate.
