Great Food, Relaxing Atmosphere, and Friendly Service! This was our first time visiting, even though we live right down the street! We were hungry and wanted something quick and close by, so we decided to give this place a try. I'm so glad we did! The ambiance was great, and they were playing really good music. They have pool tables and nice furniture, which gave the place a fun but relaxing atmosphere. When we walked in, someone at the bar greeted us and asked us to wait just a minute while he seated us. We waited less than two minutes. Our waitress was extremely friendly and provided great service. We definitely left her a nice tip! I ordered the Galbi short ribs for $29.99, and they were amazing--definitely worth the price! My husband ordered the spicy ramen, which was very flavorful. We both felt it could have used more noodles, but thankfully I had plenty of short ribs left over for my husband to enjoy! We also ordered the shrimp tempura, but it tasted more like regular fried shrimp, so I'm not sure if our order may have been mixed up. My only other suggestion would be more legroom at the tables. Because the grill is built into the table, the space underneath is a little limited. My spouse and I are 5'7 and 5'10. Also, the water wasn't our favorite, and I'm not sure if it is filtered. Overall, we had a really nice, calm Wednesday evening around 7 p.m. People were playing pool, and the atmosphere was enjoyable without being too loud. Central BBQ House is a hidden gem in South Phoenix. It's never busy when I'm there, and I would like to help change that. For those who don't know, CBBQH is a restaurant and a night life destination. I personally have never been there "after dark," but from what I understand, they have bands sometimes. There are multiple pool tables, room for dancing, and the music is always elite in my opinion (r&b throwbacks). The decor is cool. It's dark and modern inside, and the furniture is tasteful. They definitely get ambiance points. I love Korean BBQ. In my opinion, there's not much they can do to stand out because the customer is cooking the food. That being said, I think their marinades are delicious. The variety of banchan (small dishes meant to be eaten with the rice and meat) is great. Their fried rice is yummy, as well as the gyoza they serve. Every time I go here, the staff is friendly and attentive. I took away a star because no matter what we order for drinks, they take an obscenely long time. We always have our food before our drinks. I want to like this place but every time we come, they're out of something. Today they are out of most items and didn't tell us till it was time for our food to come. Service was very slow as well. One server walked around sweeping the other one was kind of helping us out, kind of not. If you want to stay in business, you need to have your food in stock and learn how to serve your customers. This place won't make it through the end of the year. It's unfortunate because the food is pretty good and they have some potential. HUGE disappointment. We were embarrassed that we brought our friends here for my husband's birthday on May 16, 2026. This place used to be better and have a different setup. When we arrived, myself and another party member expressed that we explicitly wanted the mixed vegetables for the grill. The waitress said we ALL had to subscribe to the same menu, i.e., "all you can eat". When they started bringing meat, we asked where the vegetables were, and she said "We don't have any right now; just carrots", and brought us a plate with 4 carrot slices on it. I was SO pissed. HELLO, we told you this when we were seated, and she didn't say anything at the time?! Your restaurant had already been open for several hours. This shouldn't have been news to you! Furthermore, you're RIGHT NEXT TO a Food City, so go f**king get some! Jesus. I was there PRIMARILY for grilled veggies. They used to have great veggie options. My husband was there for the meat. I got the squid, and it was so chewy it was inedible. I spit most of it out into the napkin. I tried it at all levels of cooking, so it was NOT overcooked; it was just trash. Furthermore, they only brought us one piece of squid anyway. They didn't have any of the Asian beers my husband requested that they ADVERTISED, just American generic garbage beer. The mixed drinks sucked, there was pretty much no alcohol in them. We also had to consistently wait on the staff to put in new drink or food orders. If you're going to have a 2-hour limit, your waiters/waitresses should be attentive. We even had to wait on them to replace the grill. There was only ONE other table of people eating at the time we were there, and they had two other employees loitering, doing NOTHING. So there was NO excuse to be waiting on drinks or for us to enter food orders, especially after we were all being forced to order "all you can eat". Even the kimchi sides (the closest thing to vegetables they apparently could offer), we had to request more than once. Only because it was my husband's birthday, he wanted to stick around and play a game of pool with our friends, for which this place charges $11 PER HOUR! Because of the disappointing service, they gave us a free hour of pool. This was the ONLY redeeming quality of this place. We would have talked to a manager at the time of our visit, but it was clear that there was NO upper management present at the time. I don't think we'll ever be back. If they want to offer us a different experience to show that our visit was not typical, I'd be willing to try. We used to really like this place, but our most recent experience was a disgrace. It was all pretty plain, the food was either barely marinated or not marinated at all. The white rice felt overcooked and had a mushy texture. The mandu was very good and the spicy rice rolls were great both times. I don't recommend getting any of the seafood options. And the price was less than some Korean bbq places. The food overall was quite good. We ordered three meats and had Shabu Shabu. When it came time to check out we were asked to finish more of our chicken or pay a $12.95 fee. Our first visit to an all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ. Our poor waiter had to explain everything to us. He was such a trooper. Cooking your food on an in-table grill was pretty fun. The bulgogi was SO good. I ordered the Cajun shrimp and I had to pass. I didn't expect them to come complete with head she'll and legs. UNFORTUNATELY, NOT GOOD. I'm a South Phoenix native and I was skeptical in trying this place due to the location, a predominantly Hispanic area and in a plaza with a Food City. I wondered how good Korean food could be around here? I finally got around to coming and trying it tonight with a girlfriend who also lives in the area. This place is half shabu shabu, half kbbq, which is a bit weird. Anyways, It took a while to be seated due to understaffing. We were told by the host that someone had quit and someone else didn't show up. We sat down and it took quite a while for someone to take our order. Once the waitress came, we were told we could order 2 meats at a time, so first we got the beef bulgogi and the marinated boneless beef (the waitress recommended this one) along with kimbap and japchae. She comes back much later with everything except the kimbap and tells us "we ain't got no kimbap" and turns on our grill. We didn't have rice, kimchi, salad, or any other sides. We asked for rice and kimchi, and she told us the rice is "over there" motioning to the shabu shabu salad bar area. Turns out they have fried rice over there so we had to them ask for white rice. She brings us the kimchi, and it is very mediocre and taste store bought. It isn't very saucy or red. Moving on to the eating part , the grill is actually a shabu shabu pot??? It's quite weird that the grilling is done inside the pot. I didn't like it, it seemed to burn up so fast. It was completely black after ONE meat! And we didn't get any grill changes while we were here, but I'm unsure how they could do that, moving a big shabu shabu pot seems difficult. The marinated beef that the waitress recommended was SO BLAND! It was marinated in its own juice or something. The beef bulgogi was pretty good. The japchae was cold and bland. We didn't even get the white rice until much later, after this first round, and she brought only 1 small bowl and so we asked for another (spoiler, we never got the second bowl so we had to share). So round 2 we ordered Cajun chicken, spicy pork bulgogi, and mandu dumplings. It took so long to come! We sat there eating our shared bowl of plain rice while we waited. Once it came, the Cajun chicken was eh, I'm not a personal fan but my friend ordered it. Spicy pork bulgogi was decent, it had a very strong chili flavor but not in a spicy way. The mandu was your run of the mill dumplings lots of restaurants make, probably frozen at some point. We were still hungry, but service was so slow and the food was so mediocre we stopped. The waitress actually asked if we were ready for the bill, not offer more rounds. I was really hoping to like this place, but unfortunately it's not worth it. If you live in this area, it's better to just drive the 30+ minutes to some good kbbq in other parts of town. I will say the HOST WAS SO FUNNY AND KIND! First time at Central BBQ House, in South Mountain. We arrived around 1 PM on a Saturday and there were 5-6 tables full. I thought, at the time, that they could fit 150 diners. It was huge inside. We were seated and greeted immediately. Our server was extremely helpful, explaining how the menu worked, how the 'all you can eat' worked and even helped us with our decisions. The overall price was intimidating but since it was a bottomless buffet, it was acceptable. Proteins I would recommend include: beef, pork, chicken, bulgolgi pork and the shrimp. At first, the shrimp were a challenge but then we realized we had a scissor so it got a lot easier. I also recommend adding veggies during the cooking process, which helped make complex flavors: onions, shaved garlic, jalapeños, bean sprouts, marinated cilantro, to name a few. Return visit already planned. Return visit update: On our last visit, the service was the highlight. This visit, it was horrible. The very loud Mexican music did not represent a Korean BBQ. Between the neon lights, pink balloons and loud music, the atmosphere was awful too. SMH. Our server, Matt, was hopefully new cuz if not, they're in trouble. We were greeted immediately and asked if was wanted anything that wasn't at the buffet line. Since we just sat down, we didn't know what was there, so we just ordered a glass of Chardonnay and a ginger iced tea. SMH. We made it to the buffet and filled up our plates with meats and veggies. When Matt checked back with us, we asked for the Chardonnay and the iced tea. He said they were out of Chardonnay, so we ordered a ReislIng. He returned with Chardonnay. SMH. He asked if we had come up with anything that wasn't at the buffet, so we asked for Beef Galbi and fried rice. He sad they were out of both. SMH. Later, he told us that they were making fried rice for us and it would be out soon. After ten mins, the table across from us got a HUGE plate of fried rice, so we asked Matt for ours. He said he forgot and would go get it. SMH. A full forty mins later, the rice never showed up, even tho Matt assured us several times it was on the way. SMH. New location in south Phoenix! We found this place by accident & are so happy to have gone. It was a group of 5 that came. The inside it very nice & clean. They have nice music playing. The staff is very friendly & conscientious. They checked up on us multiple times & made sure we had everything we needed. The set up allows to have a combo of shabu shabu & BBQ which we found amazing. The ingredients are fresh & good quality. The marinated meats have good flavor to them with rice included. The place also has boba & bingsu! The only other bingsu place that I know of is in Mesa which is why I am so happy to know there is a locations in Phoenix! read more
