On the way home from a weekend fishing trip in the White Mountains, I was in the mood for Mexican food and I wanted to try a new place (new to me) and Casa Ramos was it. The restaurant looks like it was converted from a 1950's lodge or old hotel on the outside. Really big inside...tons of booth seating available. We were greeted quickly and had our drinks within 5min along with the chips and salsa. Their salsa was really good! I went with a bean burrito, green enchilada style. My friend got the chicken tacos and he loved them. My dish was good, the beans were perfect! It also came with what I thought was a garnish of lettuce....you know, typical for Mexican cuisine with beans and rice. It was actually coleslaw....i tried it, wasn't a fan. Overall, on a scale of 1 to 10, it was good, I left full and satisfied, but I'll look for a new place to eat (and maybe BBQ) next time I'm in Heber.

After a long drive from California heading toward Pinetop AZ, my cousin called me to tell me I needed to give this place a try. So, once I arrived I pulled into the parking lot and strolled in with my family. This place gives off a "hole in the wall" vibe, with no frills. We walked in and were seated promptly. A lot of people were here so we thought that was a good sign. We were given two baskets of chips and two bowls of salsa. Our drink orders were taken, and we started right away on the chips and salsa. The chips and salsa always make the first impression with me, so if they start bad, I know the food will suck. The chips and salsa passed the test. No complaints. We perused the menu and your typical items were in on the menu. We did see at the bottom of a page that the first bowl of chips was on the house. Subsequent refills were $1 a pop. What the hell? Eh, ok whatever. We looked on the menu to see if queso was an option. The only thing they had was queso with meat inside. We asked the waitress if just queso by itself was an option, to which she replied "no, we don't have anything like nacho cheese." She gave us a weird look like the request was far fetched. We told her that we were from Texas, so that was why we asked. She gave a condescending smirk, and walked off. The wife and I were still undecided of what we wanted. The waitress came back and we ordered fajitas for dos. Beef and chicken. The entree on the menu specifically listed 6 tortillas. No more, unless you want to pay for extras. Again, what the hell? Eh, ok. In good time the fajitas came. We heard them coming from the kitchen all the way to us just a sizzling and rolling smoke. A good sign. They were placed in front of us with the fixin's to accompany them. Beans, rice, guacamole, and sour cream. All of it looked yummy, minus the brown guacamole. We got right to making our fajita tacos to our liking. The beef was leaving a weird orange stain on the tortilla, to which I realized was the seasoning on the fajitas. Strange.. ok... Took the first bite, and was instantly turned off. The fajitas were seasoned with taco meat. What the hell? What kind of place is this? I've never seen fajitas seasoned with taco meat. I finished the first taco, and threw in the towel. I at the beans, rice, and my two other tortillas, with no complaints there. I really wanted to give this place a good review. I am usually a "give me Tex-mex, or give me death," kinda guy, but I was going out of my comfort zone to give this place a shot. Next time I will just stay in my lane and stay with what I know. I do not recommend this place, and suggest you keep driving by. Other good alternatives are not too far down the road. I am going to call my grandmother and make sure my cousin is actually related to the family. Horrible recommendation. Haha. Enjoy.

My family had not been here in years. Honestly the service we had last was not good. Not pleasant and food was nothing extraordinary. And to finish off that experience there was a charge for additional chips. Fast forward to this past weekend. We drove down from Show Low to give it another try as we had read several yelp reviews saying it was under new management. Two people on the party had a cheeseburger and fries and the other two of us had a combination off the lunch menu. The taco was crunchy and the beef inside shredded was delicious. we asked for extra salsa anything that was hotter than what they were serving and they brought us the green salsa which was extremely hot. Just what we needed and was great for the taco. The decor was the same as the last time we were there. It wasn't very busy right opening, but at the end of the hour approaching 12 on Saturday it was filling up pretty fast. The service was outstanding and the servers were pleasant. Our drink glasses were kept full Both with water or soda whichever we had. We were able to sequester some extra chips without an extra charge. I honestly didn't even look to see on the menu if they still did that. The crew that was working just seem to want to aim to please and always had a friendly smile. we will definitely be back for lunch. Not sure about dinner as the prices were a little bit higher than what we pay in Show Low. But that being said it was a beautiful drive down the 260 highway and we gave this place another try and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Update #2. The food and service have been consistently top notch. We had the fajitas again last Friday night. They come out really hot and sizzling. The seasoning is spot on and the onions are cooked just to the edge of caramelization without being mushy.

Chile verde enchilada, bean burrito with red sauce and rice and beans. Absolutely delicious!

Two words..... the salsa!!!! Soooo good and the food is exceptional. The owner takes a lot of pride to ensure that he only uses quality ingredients. The portions are big but most importantly everything is very good. I highly recommend. read more

Just left this place 20 minutes ago ( 2/20/22 @7:50 pm. I ordered a red chili burrito, green chili burrito both enchilada style, rice and beans. The red chili tasted very tomatoey and the green chili barely had any flavor, that's my personal opinion. When I told the waitress that I was not happy with my meal and I was not going to pay for the Burros (which I did not eat, either one) but I would pay for the rice and beans, which I did eat, she said she would have to speak to the manager. She returned with the "manager" who turned out to be the owners son, who usually works as the bar tender. Normally has different hair color, tattoos and is usually cocky. Anyway, he put the bill down on the table and shoved it toward me and told me "I don't want you back here, you didn't even taste the food".! WRONG!!! I did and DID NOT LIKE IT! He took it personal! I am Hispanic and know what GOOD Mexican food tastes like and this was not good in my own option. So, I took my bill to the hostess station where you pay the bill and spoke to the owner of the restaurant who is also the hostess. She asked if everything was good and I told her no. I told her what had happened with her son and that his behavior was completely unacceptable and very unprofessional! She apologized and appeared to be very embarrassed by her sons behavior! At that time, her son walked out to the hostess station and began to insult me by calling me a dumb ass in Spanish! He proceeded to tell me that I did not need to tell his mother "owner" what had just happened and that they have been in business for 16 years, etc. and know what they are doing. Again, this was my personal opinion of the food, I did not go around bad mouthing them. I know this is the only Mexican restaurant in Heber-Overgaard and people don't have a choice, they just accept this subpar food because there is no other choice. The owners son "manager" was way out of line, very unprofessional. He should take this and learn from it instead of pushing customers away from the restaurant and insulting them. I can guarantee that I and other friends and family will never return to this mediocre, subpar restaurant ever again.! Take your business to Alibertos Mexican Restaurant! They are always consistent and ALWAYS have great tasting Mexican food! If you don't know what true, authentic Mexican food tastes like, then you'll probably like this place. If you know what true, good, authentic Mexican food tastes like, you truly will not like it.! The owners son truly ruined it for his mother's restaurant and lost numerous customers, word of mouth goes a long way,!! read more

Pretty good spot. I tried the three combo plate and got a shredded beef taco, ground beef enchilada, and chicken chimi. All were tasty and the rice was good. Loved the chips and salsa. We ordered taquitos and a cheese crisp for our kids and they didn't complain. We'll definitely come back the next time we are on the mountain. read more

Well, it's definitely as good as it gets in Heber, that's for sure. We were in town for a family wedding and decided to hit up Casa Ramos prior to the ceremony. My sister wanted to go to the Red Onion, but there was nothing (and I mean NOTHING) vegetarian for me. To avoid a hissy fit, we went here instead, thanks to Yelp. Service was very friendly, and I liked that multiple people came by for refills on drinks, salsa (which was wonderful and spicy), etc. Our adorable teenage server knew quite a bit about the alcoholic beverages and steered us towards the Cadillac margaritas. They were delicious with the Gran Marnier floater, and you could tell they weren't from a bottled mix. Since a previous Yelper raved about the veggie fajitas, I had to go with those. She was right! The mix of mushrooms, peppers and onions were covered in lots of seasoning that really made them taste great. I was going to stop with just two servings on corn tortillas, but I went with a third one as I correctly guessed that the wedding reception wouldn't have an actual vegetarian entree for me. I was stuffed the rest of the day. My brother in law got an enormous plate with three cheese enchiladas. I was surprised he finished the whole thing on his own, but he said he really liked them. The same goes for my sister's chipotle shrimp and my dad's chicken burrito and beef taco. Everyone was really happy with their order. They have a second location in Mesa that I will check out soon. Back in town... back to Casa Ramos : ) We had the queso fundido again... which I thought needed a little more queso, but it was still good. We shared a pollo a la crema, and it was delicious, lots of mushrooms... tasty sauce... Good chips and salsa (hot spicy salsa). Rice and beans were very good too, really had a home made taste. Our server was very attentive and friendly. We look forward to stop by again next time we are in town. read more

Loved Casa Ramos! One of the best Mexican restaurants we have found in most of Arizona. The Green Chili burrito was absolutely delicious! The only downfall was their 'best margarita' was just okay. At $12.50 a pop, we expected a lot more flavor. It was pretty bland... Skip the drinks and stick to there food! Yum!! read more

I really have to give this restaurant a 2 Star . At one time was my favorite Mexican restaurant. OMG Got there at 1 o'clock. (3 cars In the parking lot. )It took us over 20 mins to get a beer.Food Came out fast..The waiter Knocked over a glass Of water into my husbands plate. Took his plate backTo the kitchen. Casa Ramos was the best Mexican Restaurant in Mesa/Gilbert/Chandler/Tempe. They closed during the Light Rail construction & we are all hoping they plan to reopen sometime. In the meantime, definitely worth the drive to Heber! read more

Stopped in for a late lunch after working in Snowflake. Had a cheese crisp and the combo fajitas. Everything was fantastic. Grilled chicken was flavorful and cooked perfectly along with great strips of steak..also delicious. The grilled veggies on the sizxling fajita platter were awesome! Great house salsa and really good service...i dont live anywhere near here but next time in the area will definitely be back!! read more

Food ok ordered a cheese crisp with green chilies but got jalapenos. Paid extra $3.20 for 32 cents worth of salsa. Only game in town or they would be out of business. Los Corrales in Show Low or Pinetop ten times better. read more

From the moment we walked in, she greeted us with the kind of warm welcome that instantly makes you feel like family. What really impressed us was that, despite the rush, she took the time to give specifics about every question we had on the menu. She even offered helpful suggestions (which ended up being spot-on, by the way). I had accidentally ordered a canned soda, but when I told her we preferred a fountain drink instead, she didn't hesitate for a second. No attitude, no making me feel bad--just pure, genuine service. She literally ran to grab us a cup, and later I found out that the fountain drink actually cost more. But she just smiled and said it was no big deal. That kind of above-and-beyond service is rare these days, and it left a lasting impression. I've driven past Aliberto's at least a hundred times and never stopped. But believe me when I say, that has changed forever. I will make it a mission to stop here every single time I pass through--even if it's just for their horchata, which is a solid 10/10. And let's talk about the food--SO GOOD. Their tacos? Massive and packed with flavor. Everything we tried was fresh, delicious, and satisfying. Even though poor Bri was clearly being pulled in every direction and running around because they were so busy she still managed to keep a positive attitude and give everyone around her that same warm, welcoming energy. She is the heart and soul of this place, and honestly, she alone gives Aliberto's a reputation worth bragging about. Do yourself a favor--don't just drive by. Stop in, grab some tacos and horchata, and if you're lucky enough to be helped by Bri, you're in for something special.
