Amazing place! We were in town and I found this place on Yelp. Huge Win. We were here for happy hour and got the guacamole and chips with salsa. The guac has little chopped tomatoes, cotija cheese and pumpkin seeds. The salsa is perfect. The chips and thick and crunchy and perfectly salted, everything was delicious. We also got the potato wedges with savory mustard aioli. So tasty. The potatoes cooked perfectly. I got the ginger soda which was refreshing. Husband got the sangria. We sat on the cute shady patio. Sofritas is a Latin American restaurant conveniently located just off one of the main downtown strips on Parkview Ave. The restaurant has a fun, eclectic atmosphere with patio seating, a small bar, and interesting décor throughout. It's the kind of locally owned place that has a lot of character. Our waiter recommended the avocado dip and chips, which ended up being one of the best things we ordered. The portion was generous, fresh, and perfect for sharing. We also split the $19 bread board, which is similar to Postino's concept with four breads and different toppings. The hummus was easily our favorite, followed by the BLT. Unfortunately, the salmon and caper spread had a strong odor and tasted off, so none of us enjoyed it. The drinks were good--our friends enjoyed a coconut cocktail while we opted for wine. Overall, I'd give Sofritas 3/5 stars. Last weekend during the art festival, my wife and I decided to check out Sofrita restaurant located in Fountain Hills. The area was alive with artists and crowds, and the restaurant itself had a really nice buzz. However, due to the festival, their menu was significantly limited compared to normal operations. For our meal, we selected the fish tacos which were offered a la carte. While the fish tacos were reasonably tasty with fresh components, they were not served hot enough and came out somewhat lukewarm, which affected the enjoyment. Moreover, the meal turned out to be kind of pricey given the a la carte pricing structure. Although the location is great and staff friendly, the overall experience didn't really impress us enough. Honestly, we are not sure if we will return to Sofrita in the near future. read more

Sofritas is awesome you guys! The food here is always delicious. I gave 3 stars because we were excited to try the happy hour and it was probably the lamest happy hour I've ever experienced. SKIP THE HAPPY HOUR TACOS, and get the regular menu tacos. They were so so. The chorizo tasted more like a pork stew/roast than a chorizo. The bean tacos are just black beans. And the beef is just beef. Nothing fancy. I'm so disappointed. My husband and I only get to go to Sofrita's when we're in town a couple times a year. Been going since it opened and was a huge fan of their guacamole, breakfast burrito and chicken salad. Sadly, this is the first time we were let down on all fronts. No more single serving portions of guacamole... $15 was the minimum order. Because my husband doesn't eat it, the single serving was perfect for me. They stopped serving eggs... so no breakfast burrito for him. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich and what a disappointment that was. Instead of the usual chunky pieces of fresh chicken, I got hard pieces of old chicken that tasted like it had been sitting in the refrigerator for a week. The Mayo dressing was even broken down to nothing but oil. I couldn't eat it and sent it back. We left and ate elsewhere. I felt bad for the server because none of it was his fault. But so disappointed as we looked so forward to this for weeks. What happened to this place?? Two stars only because the Service was fine and the lemonades were delicious. Sofrita's is always enjoyable. Good food, good service, we always enjoy it. Tonight, however, our meal was ruined by a large party that had no consideration for anyone except themselves. It was a party of 23 - 23! - and they insisted on separate checks! The entire restaurant was backed up just to accommodate the totally inconsiderate needs of this large party. I hope they read this and realize how they ruined the evening for everyone else in the restaurant. If you are going with a large party, you don't need 23 separate checks! We were on the way home from a day trip and decided to stop somewhere new for an early dinner. My husband chose Sofrita in Fountain Hills. First and foremost, the location is quite nice .. the street that the restaurant is on has plenty of parking, and it very much reminded me of Palm Springs. The big fountain is just down the road and a big playground for kids. There was plenty of outdoor seating at the restaurant as well as some tables inside. The weather was wonderful, so we dined outside. Their menu is simple - tacos, salads, a few breakfast-all-day items, and a few appetizers. I got a mango margarita to drink which was good. For dinner we ordered the papas del padre (potato wedges) which came with mustard aioli and chipotle mayo; I really liked this appetizer. The potatoes were fried perfectly and the dipping sauces were both nice. My husband got the breakfast burrito which was a good size with plenty of filling; he liked it. The fish tacos I ordered were pretty mediocre; the fish itself was fried well and was very light, but the taco was very dry. It didn't have a lot of flavor and could've benefited with some sort of sauce on top. Service was good. Our server was friendly and attentive. Very cool ambiance but extremely slow and painful service. Every time we come here (which is once a year), I feel like we have to ask the servers for every little thing we need. As for the menu, there is a decent amount of fresh fair to choose from. Lots of vegan options as well. I usually get one of their salads but wasn't too hungry this time so we split some of the hummus and guac, omitted the cheese. Great, reliable, fresh. Right in downtown Fountain Hills this wonderful little restaurant does not disappoint! We stopped in just after the weekly Farmers Market on the street of fountains. Offering both indoor and outdoor seating, weather permitting, allows for a wonderful people watching experience while enjoying a great afternoon early dinner. We started with a nice Chips, dips, and house made guacamole. The tortilla soup was and nice hearty. The beef and potato tacos were tasty and unique. The beer selection offered local brews and the margarita with fresh squeezed lime juice was outstanding! Save room for the flan as you cannot go wrong. Great little lunch while enjoying the Fountain Festival. They had a shortened menu which was smart because it allowed them to keep people moving in/out of the tables. Had to wait about 20 minutes but seated in a lovely outside (shaded) table. Quick service, delicious food (chicken sandwich and pork verde tacos). We went there last night after the Fountain Hills art festival. It has a very nice dog friendly outdoor patio, great for people watching. We were greeted promptly by a very friendly hostess and our server Betty soon followed and took our drink order. Everyone working there made over our dog. She got several dog biscuits and a ceramic bowl of water. I was hoping my dog wouldn't dump it and break the bowl, but all was well. We ordered Cadillac margaritas which came in a large disposable plastic glass but the margarita was excellent, they didn't skimp on the alcohol . We also ordered the chips and guacamole. The guacamole was excellent, it came in a large bowl and was sprinkled with cheese and pepitas. The chips looked a little burnt but they ended up being quite good. When we were running low on chips our server immediately brought out another bowl without us even asking. For dinner I ordered the salmon tacos. You get three tacos and they were filled with a decent amount of salmon, guacamole and pineapple salsa on top. They were very good. My husband got the firehouse fish tacos. The fish was gluten free tempura fried, and included cabbage slaw and a mango salsa. He really liked them and was only able to eat two, one was saved for lunch the next day....yum! Everyone working here was "over the top" friendly. This carried on to the next day because after we got home my husband realized he'd left his hat there. We called the next day and they had found it on the ground and were holding it for him. Luckily our friends are vendors at the art show and were able to pick up the hat for us so we didn't have to make the hour trip back to Fountain Hills today. read more

I've raved about the fish tacos in the past but tonight they were hardly edible. Small pieces of deep fried portions, dry and hard. Yesterday's fish? Less than 1/2 a teaspoon of slaw on two, I didn't bother with the 3rd. Two in my party ordered the Spicy Chicken tacos... both said there was no spice, no slaw, but the flavor was OK. What in the world happened to Sofrita since I was there last? The place is nice looking. Small but cute. Nice patio as well. No issues there at all. Unfortunately the seafood paella was a disaster. It comes on a 4-5" diameter cast iron. I really thought it was an appetizer when they brought it out. I didn't wanna return it out of the sake of being hungry and just not wanting to be that kinda customer. I've had paella before and this wasn't it. The shrimp was also overcooked. Such a huge let down and it cost $27. The chicken tacos were ordered for $17 and they were solid. The Puerto Rican rice and black beans were added at $3 each. It appears they are just regular black beans from a can. The rice was plain ol white rice. Absolutely nothing different. $6 for that was also pretty rough. The Cadillac margarita was prob the only thing that helped the experience. But even that at $15 was pretty eye opening. Overall $73 for some tacos and rice + shrimp with a drink was def disappointing. I really wanted to love this place. Maybe I just ordered the wrong things. We have been here many times over the years and it's always been very good. We love their patio and the nice view of the fountain. We went again today, and were a bit disappointed. We ordered 2 beers and our usual, the Chilaquiles Verde. After the server brought our beers we asked for some chips and salsa. She told us no problem. We didn't see her again until we asked for the check. When she asked if everything was ok, I mentioned we never got our chips; she didn't really apologize, just said ok. She did say sorry when she brought back my credit card. Normally the Chilaquiles Verde are so good, best I've ever had.
