They had so many selections from savory and sweet! We had to stop as we drove by, It was quick and delicious! Outdoor seating for a quick serve counter. Plenty of seating, limited parking.

We decided to take a detour to enjoy Strawberry on the way up to Flagstaff. So glad we did! It added an hour and a half onto the drive up but was so worth it. We got here around 1:30 pm just in time for some lunch. As I turned my head to the right, asking what we should eat, we all said "PIEbar" together. Jinx. It's just the perfect little cafe. It's bright yellow so it catches your eye. A line of people waiting to order at the front door was moving fast. Parking is right off the highway and in front of the restaurant. There's also additional parking behind the restaurant down the hill. Stairs come straight up to patio from the lower lot. Beautiful patios surround the restaurant with shaded tables. Gorgeous Ivy covered pines and oaks cover the patio areas. Two gender neutral restrooms available in a separate small building next to the restaurant. I love how the menus are written and posted everywhere and list empanadas in order by popularity. Another thing I appreciate is the size of the empanada and the price. They are small enough and inexpensive enough that you could get a snack but if you wanted to get, let's say five or six because you're hungry for lunch it is still affordable. Service was so friendly and great as we ordered at the counter. I couldn't believe how quickly the ordering process went and we were handed a bag of warm empanadas before we knew it. We ordered: - 1 SAVORY Empanada - The Mountain Man Empanada - sausage, potato gravy, cheese (most popular) - 1 SAVORY Empanada - Chicken Pot Pie empanada (second most popular) - 1 SAVORY Empanada - Picadillo Beef Empanada - shaved beef, diced potato, green chiles, onion, cilantro, tomato, garlic (I got this one and it's #1 in my book) - 1 SAVORY Empanada - Artichoke Dip Empanada (meatless) daughter said this was very good - 1 SWEET Empanada - Apple/Dulce de Leche - warm and yummy! We all split this for dessert. The pastry / shell is very tasty and doesn't taste like some I've tried other places with an artificial taste. It's flaky and filling. Handheld size. Perfect for taking on the go. Each empanada placed in a waxed paper sleeve. They've got a few different very tasty dipping sauces as well. We tried the Creamy Green Chile & Pepita Sauce (mild) and the Chipotle Lime Aioli (mild). Very good flavors and fresh.

this place lives up to the hype. The line looks intimidating, but it doesn't take that long at all. It was hard to pick just a few items off the menu, but I was happy with my selections which were the chicken pot pie in the bean and cheese empanada. The buffalo chicken one was also really good. I think they should try to make a chicken tikka one eventually. I'd come back for that.

This is a MUST visit in Strawberry! Being directly off of Hwy 260, you cannot miss it driving through town. It's absolutely worth the stop. The menu is huge, so there is an option for everyone! Savory and sweet options depending on the time of day. They are listed on the menu starting with the most popular and going down the list. We tried a bunch of different options and honestly enjoyed them all. Our favorites were the Green Chile Pork, Loaded Baked Potato, Philly Cheese, and the Chicken Pot Pie. We also really liked their breakfast ones too. The Panda one on the sweet options is delicious! Service is excellent here. Very quick and super helpful. They give perfect recs about what pairs with what sauce when ordering. They have a fridge of drinks, beers, and cocktails as well. Pies are available to buy in whole also. Take this as your sign to stop at PIEbar. Sit outside, enjoy some fantastic food and weather, and get back on the road. You will not be disappointed!

Super Cool outside eating area! They even have hoola hoops :-) The chorizo pie tasted excellent - next time get one plus one "Mountain Man" since they fit in your palm :-) Pretty Speedy! Great Service - I forgot to ask for Military Discount, so check :-)

Food service ambience, as I sat amongst the beautiful forest is Strawberry, AZ the absolute best empanadas!!!! Meaty, sweetie, even something for the vegans -still have to watch riding in a car with vegans and their purulent flatulence

The best empanadas ever!!!!! (Or that I have tasted). Both the savory and sweet were delicious. My favorite is the cherry empanada! Lines can be long and average wait time is 20ish minutes. I made the mistake of not ordering all at once and because of that I had to line up twice! we brought home a few and its still good when reheated using the airfryer!

Recommend: Yes. Definitely a spot to check out in Strawberry, AZ. This place is definitely popular with people from outside of town. Food: Empanadas were good! We got The Mountain Man, the Picadillo Beef, and Philly Cheese Steak. My favorite was the Philly cheese steak. Flavor 4/5. Service: quick, nice, and they have restrooms for public to use. My boyfriend and I were driving down from flagstaff and found this place. They were decent size and you can get a sauce with it for 85cents. Everything tasted great but I do have to say the Philly cheese steak one was my favorite. It had a lot of the pepper taste. The others were great as well but wasn't as flavorful as the Philly cheese steak. I still think this is a great place to stop and check out. They also have pies but we didn't get any since we just wanted a small snack.

One of the coolest places and very unique to go to. Tons of flavor options for the empanadas. No line for us about 30 mins after they opened. Service was really friendly and quick. The apple one was fantastic in addition to the breakfast ones and pot pie one. Tons of flavors going on all in one bite! I can't wait to come back and try more flavors next time around. If you're in the area or taking a day trip to get away from the heat in the valley this is a must stop.

Menu indoor for reference while waiting to order.

We didn't eat here because the empanadas are made with lard, which makes them not vegetarian. Only whole pies are sold that are not made here. Sadly we left. Staff answered our queries so they were helpful. Cute kiosk with a long line and lots of outdoor seating, so very popular place.

    These were what we choose.

How have I not had empanadas before this? And what a great find to try them! PIEbar is a cute little walk in walk out empanada shop in a small town in AZ. You read the menu offerings while in line and when you get to the register they grab what you want and you are on your way. The staff were all friendly and helpful. I asked why it took 3 days to make them and was told they do not use yeast. So these need time to "rise." Ok the food. Wow. These small little pouches are filled with all kinds of goodness. We ordered 4, 3 savory and one sweet, and split them. Wow. Look, I don't know your tastes and what you like, but I'm posting a picture of the menu so you can see, they have a filling for pretty much anyone. The Green Chile and Buffalo chicken were my 1 and 2. And the LEMON one... I wanted to buy them out! 2 things to note that I did not deduct any stars from was if you want a sauce they charge, (pretty common nowadays,) and the seating is all outdoors. They do a good job of providing shade but in this summer heat, it's a little warm. Again no deduction. Go here!

Hostess in the pink shirt and curly hair kept staring and pointing at us while we were seated by someone else. Another person, Andrea, came over again to ask about our reservation and showed her the confirmation. I explained that this was the fourth time being asked about it and she laughed it off, very frustrating. It made eating there very uncomfortable and we chose to leave early. Edit: You moved us once, the server asked if we wanted to be moved to a nearby booth. I did not ask for anything to be taken off of the check. The server asked and I said no it's okay we will take it home cause we don't like wasting food. The restaurant was nice inside, clean, and the server was great, she kept apologizing. I'm assuming you are the original gentleman that seated us instead of the hostess. You asked me for the name on my reservation twice as well as two other servers. You appeared intoxicated so I didn't mind repeating myself for you. When we arrived we did not speak to the hostess at all, she was helping someone else, you stepped in. My boyfriend did not even taste the fish, like I said we try not to waste food so I know he would have tried to eat it at a later time. I had no problem paying for it. You keep editing and deleting your comments, it's very unprofessional. And once again. . . I DID NOT ASKED TO BE MOVED.

Limited selection compared to bigger bakeries. But here's the thing. What they do have is exactly what you want. No filler, no wasted space, just a tight lineup of pastries that are actually worth buying. We've gone in more than once thinking, "Alright, one pastry each, quick stop." That plan never survives contact with the display case. You start pointing things out, adding one more, then another, and suddenly you're walking out with a full box. My go-to is the Bavarian cream pastry. It's perfect. Not overly sweet, not heavy, just balanced and done right. It's the kind of thing you finish and immediately think about grabbing another. The pricing almost feels like a mistake in your favor. On our last visit, we bought enough pastries for ten people, with extras left over, and it came out to just under $20. Back near our place in Rhode Island, that same box would easily be double. Probably more. Here, it feels like you're getting away with something. And then there's the service. The woman we usually see there is genuinely kind. Not forced, not transactional. Just warm, welcoming, and happy to see people walk in the door. It adds to the whole experience in a way that's hard to fake. This place doesn't try to impress you. It just quietly delivers every time you show up. If you're anywhere near Cottonwood, stop in. You'll go in for one thing and leave with more, and you won't regret it.

The anticipation was high, and unfortunately, the experience did not live up to the hype. For context, I'm from California and am accustomed to fresh, authentic Mexican food. To be fair, Elote Café does not claim to be authentic Mexican cuisine. If that's what you're looking for, this is not it. The menu leans much more toward a Tex-Mex/fusion style. Drinks The margaritas were fine. We requested Tajín rims, which they accommodated, but the presentation felt underwhelming for a restaurant of this reputation and price point. High-end cocktail programs typically include thoughtful touches--dried citrus, smoked cinnamon, herbs, or something that elevates the experience. These arrived as basic margaritas with salt and a lime wedge. Appetizers The complimentary chips and salsa were just okay. The salsa had an unexpected sweetness that didn't work for me. The famous Elote, however, absolutely deserves the praise. It was the best thing I ate all night--savory, balanced, and packed with flavor. Easily a 10/10. The guacamole was also excellent. No complaints there. Entrees The chicken enchiladas had flavorful chicken, but the green sauce was overwhelmingly tart and lacked the seasoning needed to balance that acidity. The shrimp and pork belly dish was disappointing. The pork belly was good, but there were only two very small pieces. The shrimp were underseasoned and lacked flavor. The carne asada was the biggest letdown of the night. It arrived covered in a red sauce that seemed to be attempting an enchilada-style sauce, topped with pickled onions and a slice of bleu cheese. While I appreciated the pickled onions, the bleu cheese felt like a strange addition to a carne asada dish. More importantly, despite being described as a prime cut skirt steak and cooked rare as requested, the meat was surprisingly tough. Rice&Beans The entrees came with rice and beans. The beans were acceptable, though nothing memorable. The rice, however, tasted like boxed or instant rice. At a restaurant where a dinner for four can easily approach $300, I expect better than something that tastes like it came from a pantry packet. It's a small detail, but details matter when a restaurant has built its reputation around being a must-visit dining destination. Dessert By this point we had no intention of ordering dessert, but we were celebrating a birthday and received a complimentary ice cream dessert. It was actually very good. The vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and caramel sauce all tasted house-made and had a rich dulce de leche flavor. Final Thoughts Our bill was nearly $300 for four people, and the overall experience simply wasn't worth the cost. Aside from the elote and guacamole, most dishes felt underseasoned, unbalanced, or failed to justify the restaurant's reputation. What puzzled me most was seeing several empty tables throughout service. Given how difficult reservations are to obtain, I expected the restaurant to be completely full. This is one of those restaurants where the hype far exceeds the reality. If you're worried about missing out, don't be. In my opinion, you're not.

For $16, you get four mixed empanadas of your choice. That's a good deal, I think. But, the empanadas were on the smaller side. The owner was very friendly and informative and let us know these empanadas are made in the Columbian style. She also mentioned she lived in Mexico for many years and learned to make empanadas the Mexican way and combined some of those flavors also. The empanadas I had were all very tasty and I liked the salsa verde that came with the empanadas. I had the traditional (had a kick to it) and arroz con pollo. I gave Sherpa the calentado and chorizo ones, but no report back if they were good lol. My only gripe here is that the empanadas were a little more greasy than I usually like. On their website and in photos, they say their empanadas are air fried, but I think I recall seeing oil fryers outdoors yesterday. I try to keep fried foods to a limit as I don't always feel great after eating a greasy meal. And I have to maintain a svelte physique, just kidding there. Diabetes and heart disease run in my family, so I am very mindful of what I put into my temple. I also ate these after climbing as there is no way I could have had these empanadas in my stomach prior. Also interesting is that the vegetarian and vegan ones were kind of food color green. I guess you need to be able to differentiate them, but the color was off-putting. I'd give this place another try but would prefer baked empanadas. I love empanadas, just please hold the grease.
