Know that my wife and I are full time residents of Heber/Overgaard and have been for several years. We take our meals out on a fairly regular basis so sometimes there is a tendency to take our local eateries for granted, that being said we were pleasantly surprised when treating ourselves to a Father's Day brunch at our local Ponderosa Cafe to not only noticing that they were quite busy but they were featuring a special Holiday Menu. The first thing that caught my eye was a novel Steak and Egg dish that included a six oz. Sirloin steak with "loaded hash brown potatoes," that's hash browns with a load of onions, bell peppers, and cheese. This was a delicious side complete with two eggs my style and choice of toast. There was even more but I passed on the bacon, it was just too much. My wife opted for the all veggie omelet (which of course she couldn't finish) with all it fixings which we took home. One of the highlights of our service was the young waiter, Owen, who had been added to the staff recently. He was anxiously trying to be so helpful it was a joy to be one his first "customers." He of course getting help from is fellow staffers especially Debbie our favorite. In addition I would be remiss if I didn't mention the fullly appointed bakery available to us as we checked out. There is was with home baked brownies, pies, and coffee cake to tempt us as we left. I could go on and on but you get the picture. Update 2 years later. We had pretty much the same experience as two years ago. The front of house and service were very good. For the price we really expect better food quality and execution. I tried a Santa Fe breakfast burrito. It was large but mostly filled with potatoes. It was very hard to find any pulled pork inside. For the price I would expect more protein and some melted cheese on top or maybe a sauce...The cactus juice side is a good idea but it has too much lime juice in it. We like the idea of Gail's Sunrise Specials which were half portions. My wife ordered the Pork Green Chili over eggs and potato. The pork green chili was more like flavored gravy. It is pasty and gelatenous. There is very little meat and green chili. The people are friendly and the space is clean but the food is just not good enough to bring us in very often. read more

Cool little cafe with a welcoming atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Our order was mixed up, but they were extremely apologetic and made it right--plus we ended up with extra food. Surprisingly good! Better than expected as we haven't had a lot of great dining experience in this town. We just purchased a vacation home in Overgaard and this will be our go to breakfast place! We stopped by the Ponderosa Cafe on our way out of Hebert-Overguard to grab a few lattes and a bite to eat. The owner was so kind and friendly. She showed me all the delicious pastries and options, treated me like family and even had one of her employees carry the lattes out to our car. We will be back! I normally frequent Ponderosa for breakfast, but today I decided to do lunch. I'm so glad I did! I saw they had a hotdog on the menu and I would not think to get that (unless I'm at Portillo's or Ted's). But they explained it was deep fried, and oh boy was that good! We ordered breakfast which unfortunately was made from frozen food. The country potatoes were not fresh but reheated from frozen. They were not very flavorful and over cooked. This was the same situation for the sausage. I did try the bakery items which were fresh and tasty. However the breakfast was not. The service was nice and friendly. read more

We tried this place for the first time today. After seeing a few people enter after us that were getting their food we wondered where our food was. It had been 40 minutes. We asked our waitress and she said the kitchen didn't see our order. How does that happen. We were going to leave but decided to stay. It was another 10 minutes to get our food. My partner ordered oatmeal and I had a half order of high country breakfast. My plate might have been good but arrived cold. I would have sent it back but we had already waited 50 minutes. Needless to say we won't be back. To top that, after I was in the car I noticed I was charged for someone else's order. I had to go back in to get a refund and get charged correctly. The person that made the mistake was adamant he wasn't wrong. Another girl charged me for the right receipt and gave me a refund. We definitely won't be back! The waitress was friendly but she should have noticed sooner that we didn't have our food. We will be trying June's Cafe next. read more

Rebecca was our server for a party of 17 people!! On a Thursday afternoon, she was very sweet and caring, making sure we were taken care of. Don't sleep on this Cafe y'all, the food was delicious cook to order and fresh. Even the Cooker came out to make sure our food was good on his down time. I didn't took pictures cuz I was hungry and ate it all . But I got a 2 slice French Toast as a Full Breakfast with 2 Sunny Side Out Eggs, 2 Bacon's and Country Potatoes. It was so good!! And is the right size food portion which I did got Full, but the French Toast are not Huge which I was happy about :) The place is Old Style Local Vibes, is cozy and welcoming, not outside tables. 100% will recommend this place and came back again read more

Appeared to be a family owned business as teens were serving and cleaning up. I like seeing kids given responsibility and working together for the good of the family. Food was good. Service was quick and friendly. Even though she admitted to be a novice with the espresso machine, the espresso was terrific! The new owners of this cafe have made the room look open and appealing. The staff are friendly and efficient. The meals are tasty and consistent. This is a family favorite! Never had a bad experience coming here. Their burgers are my personal favorite. Especially the western. A group of 6 of us went for lunch last weekend. All six of us were over the moon for every dish we tried. The Mushroom Bacon Swiss Cheeseburger was fabulous. Meat is nicely spiced for extra flavor. The fries still have their skins on... very yummy. Tried the French Dip Special made with Tri-Tip also excellent and the roll was nice and soft and chewy. My husband is a Patty Melt aficionado and thinks this double patty/triple cheese is the best he has had in years. Another guest tried the Turkey Club on Texas Toast - everything was fresh and had a big slab of turkey breast - not just turkey deli meat. They have a homemade apple berry tart that was awesome, crust warm flaky with just a hint of chewy.... perfect! We can't wait to go back for breakfast.
