    Sopaipilla Burger

Service: Excellent waiters and staff. Super attentive and helpful. We had to wait 20 min for a seat but the place was only 1/3 full - seemed like maybe some staffing/management issues. Ambiance: Inside space was a little dark but the fountain in the foyer is neat. Overall a fine space inside. Food: We got a sopapailla burger which was decent but left a little to be desired. The sopapaillas are tasty but don't make good hamburger buns - better as a separate treat. Red Chile was excellent but warning that it is quite rich. It has a distinctive taste though that you can only get in NM.

Highly recommend this New Mexican style old-school restaurant. The service is fantastic. The food is excellent. However, recognize they don't take reservations and they get pretty busy in the evening. If you're going on Friday, go early. The good news is that they've got a nice waiting area and an excellent selection of tequila and local brews. I've posted a few pictures of the menu, however, they are known for their sopapilla burger of which I highly recommend smothered red and green chili. Price is reasonable! And there is entertainment on the patio on Fridays.

a fountain in the lobby - An indoor water feature composed of stacked rocks with small plants is situated on a stone base. The background features a mural of a mountain landscape with trees and a waterfall. Several potted plants are placed around the water feature, and a decorative sign with the message "Gather here with grateful hearts" hangs on the wall. The space has tiled flooring and ceiling lighting.

The usual dilemma - where to eat? So here we are. We get a seat indoors near the window, With a great view of a pond with waterfalls and fish oblivious to the going's on around them. A quick look at the menu and guacamole comes into view, sounded good so it gets ordered. An ample mount of the green stuff arrive with chips and green chile salsa. Entrees ordered as we noshed on the chips. The fajitas came out sizzling - the skillet hot. The fajitas sizzled for 10 minutes after being served. A little too salty for my taste. But I am sensitive to salt. My chimichanga was a nice golden brown, not over cooked. It was stuffed with meat and cheese and topped with more cheese. Add excellent service and you get a good meal. You owe it to yourself to check this place out - if for nothing else the atmosphere and old style adobe looking walls surrounding the outdoor seat

I've been wanting to come here since last year. Unfortunately, the patio was still closed when I came last Monday (it was voted as one of the best patios in ABQ during COVID) and wouldn't be open until at least May 1st. We were seated in the sunroom, with a view of the patio however and you could see the koi swimming around. The hours have been a little strange and I know they're short staffed. We had planned on making it for "breakfast' as it's only served until 12. We left a little later than planned, went through the to go entrance, and had trouble finding a handicap spot. So, by the time we got in and sat down, it was a few minutes past 12, and they had to check with the cooks to see if they would still be willing to make breakfast. Food came out quickly. My mom got the el mexicano omelette with tomatoes and onion (served with hashbrowns). The omelette was a good size, but she thought the flavor was just okay. I got the chicharron breakfast burrito (eggs, green on the side, beans, chicharron, and hashbrown). The burrito was hot (temperature-wise) on the inside. The chile was somewhat mild, although had a little bit of a kick in a few bites. Out of the chicharron burrito tour I've done in tonw, I'd say this ranked in the top 3, as the chicharron was crisp and not overly chewy. We also got chips and salsa brought to our table. Our waitress didn't pay a lot of attention to us, as our waters went unfilled, but she did have several other tables. The decor is a little outdated, but still has a comfortable atmosphere. I will be back, even just to have a coconut margarita on the patio. 2023 #7

Wednesday LG Lunch Special. Carne adovada enchiladas. Yum!

I am really enjoying Casa De Benevidez for their lunch specials lately. It's not too far from work and everything is consistent and good. I really like the way they cook their papas. The beans have a little hint of bacon? Chili is good. I have no complaints except you cant order lunch specials togo. The atmosphere is also really nice and if you are sitting near the little pond its a great view. Lunch usually costs me 15.00 with tip.

Amazing beef enchiladas with red and green chile. The flavor was perfect. Chips, salsa and guacamole was good too. Great service!

Hands down one the best places to eat in Abq. Authentic New Mexico food. Top quality made fresh in house home cooking. Don't cheat yourself treat yourself. Stop by on Thursday or Friday to eat in the outside patio. Guitar player starts playing at 5:30.

Excellent traditional Mexican food for very reasonable prices. Patio is small but as nice as el Pinto for 1/4 the cost!

Update 13apr19 - In case anyone else is interested, the chile sauces and refried beans are NOT vegetarian. There is no "vegetarian" section on the menu either. Are the chiles…

I am not sure Roberta - but I remember seeing a vegetarian section on their menu so that would probably be an option.

The property seems massive and it's really beautiful with all the cottonwood trees. When you get into the restaurant, there are just tons of combinations of these cozy little nooks, long dining tables, separated rooms, patio seating, and event spaces. There is something to see everywhere you look; fountains, fireplaces, and plants, hanging chiles, and more. They even raise cattle and chickens on property and source from their own greenhouse for their menu items. The ambience was just really cool and even though the winds were blowing like crazy, we were totally comfortable out in the patio section with the screens up. The food is authentic New Mexican cuisine. They brought out delicious tortilla chips for us to snack on while we decided on what to order. It really felt like there was no wrong choice to make. They were very accommodating for food allergies and restrictions. There was great flavor in everything our group tried. I split the half order of chicken nachos and it was a hefty half order! I was so stuffed, but then, hot sopapillas appeared and I couldn't say no to those! Especially not since the tables had their own sourced honey. There is also a full tequila bar, but since we were traveling with kids, didn't get to take too much advantage of that as an option. I wish we would've had more to explore the property but if I end up back in the Albuquerque area, I'll stop by again.

The chicken enchiladas-delicious with tender chicken. The bad: 2 Grand Gold margaritas at $15 each that were neither grand or gold. I've had better house margaritas at Applebees, lol. Their red chile was sparse, but that actually turned out in my favor because it was on the edge of burnt. A bit acrid. The sopas were dense, flat, chewy, and overcooked. The salsa-underwhelming. Yes, the chiles are vegan. (So are the beans - pressure-cooked to creamy tenderness.) Yes, they're delicious - both the red (from pods!) and the green. (And, yes, it's me - noted grumpy traditionalist who usually wants an extra scoop of bacon grease in pretty much every dish - who's writing that.) The room is small, but well thought-out. There are nice little two-top tables outside along the sidewalk/patio in this pleasant part of Los Ranchos de Albuquerque. Lavender Cocinita is popular, with a steady stream of folks coming in - but I've never had a problem getting seated and I've never felt rushed (even when sitting a while, jabbering in the chile afterglow). (Free parking is plentiful in the area, but a little weird in the Los Ranchos pedestrian area: your best bet might be trying for street parking on Tyler Road, the E/W street just N of the restaurant.) The chef is friendly and will answer questions. The counter folks have always been friendly and kind: checking on us periodically. Really nice folks. It's an order-at-the-counter/pay/take-a-seat/they-bring-it-to-you place, but the service is good enough that you'll kick yourself if you don't tip heavier than usual for such an arrangement. Get your own water at the counter. Food is cooked to order (perfectly in all my visits thus far) and will take a few minutes to get to your table, but you'll be happy. Portions are always large (I leave full, and I'm a big eater) and the cost is on the low edge of today's pricing. The chiles are real-deal: they tend to be notably more piquant than at most places in town but they're real chile and vary in heat with the batch being served (I am used to and appreciate heat and one time the green was HOT!). As noted, the flavors are just wonderful. Bear in mind, NM red and green chiles are relatively simple sauces with few components: the artistry of the chef and the quality of the ingredients are absolutely vital to the flavor impact of the finished product served - and Lavender Cocinita absolutely nails this. Foodies have written the place up over and over, and they've won awards that would impress folks in the know in the short time (less than two years) they've been open. Without being melodramatic, this place gives a serious-about-the-flavors vibe that reminds me of those noted in places that have won James Beard American Classic awards. Lavender Cocinita is a reasonably inconvenient drive for me, but every time I've made it I've driven back with a grin and a vow to do it again soon.
