No bueno, makes me sad because I've always loved this restaurant and the one on San Mateo. Took some fam by 12/2/25 for lunch and we each ordered. This took quite awhile because although the place was like a 10th full, our waitress and a waiter were in a conversation with a customer, so we ordered 15 mins later. Food came an instead of a chile rellano burrito, I got a chile rellano ala carte. It was so packed with hot oil from deep frying that it was not good. Sister ordered flautas and got taquitos that looked for fried, and she said tasted past done. Very disappointed, won't be back. read more

I was really surprised when a knowledgeable friend suggested we meet here - I've never been all that impressed with the Garcia's restaurants I've visited and tend to avoid them. Turns out this one is a _franchise_ and they make everything fresh every day. Wow, I sure noted the difference and I'm grateful for the efforts of everyone at Garcia's Kitchen Express, because they really took the time to make sure we had a great lunch. Service was great: attentive and welcoming yet unobtrusive. Your drink does not sit empty, and the food comes out MUCH faster than we expected. There were plenty of comfortable places to sit and our larger party was given a table in a more secluded area off to one side. The food (I had a chicharron burrito, Christmas) was much better than what the Garcia's name on the sign led me to expect: tasty, fresh, and plentiful - clearly prepared by someone who knew what she was doing and who was happy doing it. This particular restaurant is really clear across town from us (we live east of Tramway), but my wife and I are pretty determined to visit it again soon - even though doing so will entail a twenty-five-minute drive in each direction. read more

NEVER AGAIN! Me and my family have been coming to this location for the past 5 years. We've dinned in a few times, a couple pick up orders on the way home, but mostly picking up sopapillas when hosting dinner or business lunch/dinner. Yesterday my business was hosting a dinner so I called in 2 dozen sopapillas. The gentlemen on the phone took my order said it would be ready at 3pm. When I arrived a lady with long black and Grey hair was at the counter. I told her I was there to pick up the 2 dozen sopapillas I called in. First thing out of her mouth was "WOW, OH WOW" loud enough for the entire resterant to hear. People actually stoped eating to see what was going on. then she proceeded to the back. She came out said they where still working on my orderand took my payment, that was made on my business credit card. After a few minutes she came out with a tray and said again "wow this is a lot of sopapillas " never have been made to feel bad for buying food. I had to asked " do you think in going to eat all of these by my self?" Then she said "well you must have a big family" It was not her business but if she actually looked at the card I used to pay with she might have a clue as to what I was doing. In any case I will not return and I'll take the time to pick up my sopapillas from Sadie's from now on. They are cheaper and nicer. She didnt even give us honey. read more

This is our first time visiting this location. I must say that when we tried to visit the location off Coors, it was closed and we were a little disappointed. But that's okay, times are tough these days. This one seems to be hidden, since it is behind Mariposa park and I never knew of the place. Now, that I do. I'm happy to come back in the future with my family. We were able to sit where we wanted to. Staff was friendly and we were served right away. Looks like only half the seating was open, but thankfully we were able to dine in. I loved the menu, because it says that you can get breakfast all day. How awesome is that? I totally love breakfast. But today, I wanted enchiladas. And the menu is so big I couldn't decide. Neither could my family, I love the variety that they offer. And the green/red chili... delicious. Visiting from out of town. Family suggested this place. We were warmly greeted as we walked in. It wasn't busy so we were tended to as soon as we sat down. Great variety of food to choose from and reasonable prices. I ordered the Chile relleno plate with rice and papas covered with green chile. My food was flavorful, chile was not spicy. My cousin ordered red Chile chicken enchiladas with rice and beans. The red Chile was really tasty , she said her food was good and usually is as she has eaten there several times before. The sopaipillas were disappointing but the waitress did inform us that she wasn't pleased with them as the oil that they were fried in smelled burnt and asked the cook to change it. She offered an alternative, but I ate mine. It was ok but not as good as I know they can be. Overall very welcoming and friendly service and location. It was clean, food was good. read more

CHECK YOU BILL !! The last two times we went to Garcias Taylor Ranch the young man at the cash register added $6.00 and $10.00 to our bill. I had to correct them twice now so we will NOT be back. I think this may be going on all the time. The servers do not show a total on the check and leave it up to the customer to total the bill or allow the cashier to total the bill. Garcia's is intensely New Mexican. I recommend all of my friends and family who visit from out of town to come and try some of the food. I had the Thursday Special for Beef Enchiladas with Red Chili, Papas, and Beans. My food was good, but 2 bites In I realized "Where's the beef?" So I called the server who came and brought me a side of beef and potatoes. I guess that was an ok fix. The chili was nice and hot! My kids had Burgers, one with Guac and the other with Bacon. Their exact words were that the burgers were intimidating, but so delicious. My Husband has the Fajitas with Fries. His Fajitas were perfect. Overall, the staff was friendly and attentive. This is the closest restaurant to my home and that's maybe just a LITTLE dangerous? In fact, the day I closed on my house, my realtor and I ordered lunch while we waited for the plumber to come finish repairs. Ah, memories. My grown up Christmas wish is pretty simple. Tamales, posole, and biscochitos. Throw a couple of cappuccinos in there, and a bourbon or two, and I'm glowing like a farolito on chilly December night. Garcia's saved my tushie this past Christmas...my schedule was overflowing with events, and peformances, and holiday to-do's, and since I don't have a stunt double on staff, there simply wasn't enough time to be all and do all. So, I picked up that smartphone, dialed up the Taylor Ranch location, and ordered up 2 dozen Tamales (1 dozen green chile chicken, 1 dozen red chile pork) to be picked up on Christmas Eve. But then there were a few friends I had been meaning to drop off some goodies to, so, heck, throw in a few dozen more to be picked up earlier, and now that I think about it, do I really have time to bake biscochitos??? No, no Sir, I don't. So while you're at it, how about 7 dozen of those bad boys, 5 dozen for drop offs, 2 dozen to be picked up Christmas Day..... *Bada Bing * Bada Boom,* done! The staff was so friendly and accommodating, talked me through the re-heat process for Christmas Day, gave me a few tips for serving. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. Guys, the tamales were bomb diggity perfection. The meat so well seasoned, the tamales were moist and melted in your mouth. I even snuck a few away for leftovers the day after (see pic) - when I picked up my order, the process was painless, the restaurant was jamming pumping out the goods for their breakfast shift, and while I waited for my order to be packaged, I couldn't resist ordering a chile relleno to go, christmas chile smothered on top (but of course) to treat myself for all the hard work it took driving over there to pick things up *hehe* - Merry Christmas to me. read more

Green chile stew was almost all pork and onions. I am not even sure a full potato was used in making this New Mexican specialty. Did the prices of potatos skyrocket? Or are the cooks just not interested in peeling and cutting up potatos so that this dish is filling and comforting? I say they're just lazy. Garcias is a well know local restaurant but this location is often lost in the shuffle. We use to eat here every once and awhile and then gave up on it for a few years due to subpar food. We have it another try a few months ago and were very impressed. Since then we have back about a dozen times and and we still in love with this place. I really appreciate when a place improves and increases standards and then maintains the new standards. If you like chicharrones you will love this place. And the red chili is the perfect paring. Add the friendly service and you have a meal made in heaven. The best part is that you can eat for 2 for less than $25 including drinks. If you looking for picture perfect atmosphere then I'd keep looking. But if you want delicious New Mexican food and friendly service at a fair price then stop in to the hidden gem. read more

Update: we saw this photo on FB, and our daughter loves rice pudding so of course we went to get some!! What we got was a sad sad sad version of some rice with milk & spices, and it was very dissatisfying. The staff at the Taylor Ranch location said "we don't usually have this here" and it wasn't on the menu. I posted a comment on FB on the ad, and this is what I received: "We do greatly apologize for the inconvenience however Taylor Ranch is an affiliate location and they do not follow the same recipes as The Original Garcia's Kitchen. Generally our 6 other locations should always carry Arroz con Leche. Please try us out again at one of our other locations! Again we are sorry for the inconvenience we hope your next visit with us is nothing less than stellar!!" Disappointing "customer service", & I'm reducing my rating for that reason, and for false advertising. *************************************** Hands down better than Sadie's! We ordered water, coffe, juice, chips & salsa and Omelettes. One water came for the two of us, the chips & salsa never came, I asked for them after our food had arrived. The Omelette was not good at all. Very thin, I mean paper thin egg that was filled with ground meat (ordered sausage), potatoes and beans were barely edible. The Chips & Salsa were very good and that's the one STAR! I don't know if we came on a bad day as they were very busy which is always a good sign, however the Service was so so, coffee refill once right after getting it and we had to go and get our check. Today I visited the Garcia's on Taylor's ranch road. I ordered 3 BLT sandwiches which I waited almost an hour to receive. The Bacon on the sandwiches was clearly old. When I got home and called to talk to the manager cynthia she argued to me that the food was fresh. She was very combative and didn't try to find a way to help me, so this isn't a place I would order from for you or your family seeing as how they do not care about quality. Soooo very disappointed in Garcia's. Let me start by saying I never really cared for their food. It was never the top of my New Mexican food list. However; my boyfriend has liked it for years so I gave in and started eating here more. Especially since we literally live across the street from this location. I finally tried mostly everything on the menu lol but I found what I enjoyed the best. The Chile relleno, chicharrones with red on the side and the enchiladas(they're ok). We eat here probably once a month. However our experience tonight was a shock to say the least. The prices have increased by $1.25-1.50 for what we order and the young girl on the phone laughed sarcastically and said "oh you must have an old menu we've only upped the price by .25 cents." Well No honey we go here at least 1-2x a month and it was never that drastic of a change. So needless to say we won't be going Back that often. Yet to think it took me years to actually convince myself I like the food and now I'm back to square 1! Lol. If you don't mind spending that much money for ala carte items or meals go right ahead. As for us, We will drive to the south valley and get better for half the price. Macs la Sierra, Lollies, and/or Leroy's are my go-to places from this og LA/south valley girl. I have lived by this location for nine years. Food is mediocre, sometimes is good, most times it is dry or plain. There is a revolving door of waitstaff and hostesses. Management is a joke, she allows her staff to talk back to customers. Everytime I go I never my sopa's I have to remind them. I like to support local businesses but the other owners of Garcia wont even step foot in this location. This location just took over as our favorite from another locally-owned chain of Mexican restaurants. We had eaten at the "other place" on Friday night and from the looks of things and the taste of the food we had, they've totally turned over their kitchen and wait staff---to their detriment. So we decided to try this place again, after over two years of not going there. We had basically the same meals that we had ordered on Friday night - Hubby had the brisket burrito and I had two tamales, both with beans and papas and a sopapilla each. The food was soooooooooo much tastier than at the "other place", the young man who I presumed to be the bus boy was Johnny on the spot with refills on tea, and the bill was about $3.00 less than Friday night's to boot. Even though you are almost two miles further from our house than the "other place", we will be back for our weekly fix of green chile and brisket. read more

There is no way this place survives on being a restaurant. It must be a front for a drug service or something because the service was terrible beyond anything I have ever experienced before and the food was less than satisfactory for a Mexican food restaurant in ABQ. The place is also filthy dirty. I can't even describe it. Gross When we get here they told us to sit where ever and a kid walked up and asked us what we wanted to drink. We ordered a coke and a horchata. He came back with water and iced tea. He then takes my girlfriends order and leaves. Her food came and I gave him my order. He then points to someone else that hadn't even been to our table and said she is our waiter. WTF? So she takes my order and by the time I get it my girlfriend is well done and ready to leave. The food is where they redeemed themselves. Chili relleno burrito was average and the sugar cookies are worth getting if you ever end up here. This place is far below average Mexican food/service in this city but isn't terrible food so I think 3 stars is perfectly fitting. read more
