I do not understand why people give this place 5 stars. First of all, it's a little cafe , NOT facing the water. It sits next to a school I believe. There is ample parking and outside seating but my cellphone wasn't working here. For some reason , the signal was so bad. Came in on a Tuesday around 11 hoping to eat some good lunch. Ordered the shaking beef and what a mistake I made. The dish came with a salad which was shoved on the same plate with the rice and beef. The main dish had absolutely not flavor profile but just salty. All I can taste is the saltiness. I am so disappointed. Service was just meh. Nothing worth remembering. Advise : don't serve food that you don't know how to cook ! read more

My group and I stopped here after visiting the Rosie the Riveter Museum across the way. We must have seriously lucked out on timing because, being a group of 11, I was nervous that we wouldn't all be able to sit together when we walked in. It's a good-sized Cafe with indoor and outdoor seating, but it was a cold-ish day so everyone wanted to sit indoors. When you walk in, you go up to the counter to place your order and they call out your name when your food is ready. We were there for lunch and there was a great selection of sandwiches, salads, starters, and more. I like variety! Not to mention the decent prices. I also overheard that you can also place pick-up/to-go orders and that they serve breakfast in the AM. While waiting for the rest of my group to order, I was lucky enough to see a fair amount of food coming from the kitchen. It was impressive how fast the cook was cranking plates out the window! Sandwiches and burgers in huge portions, chicken plates that smelled incredible... I could tell the food was going to be good before the guy behind me in line confirmed it. I ended up ordering the Caesar Salad with chicken. I kid you not, it was the best Chicken Caesar Salad OF MY LIFE: chicken diced to perfection with melted parmesan cheese and still-crispy lettuce at the very bottom of the heaping, oversized plate (there's nothing worse than a great salad with crap lettuce - but this was perfect all the way through!). And the croutons... omg. I'm a sucker for carbs and bread and they were so delicious that they had to be homemade, right?! Our bus driver, who I was sitting next to, got the Teriyaki Chicken + Rice Plate and it could easily have been two meals. I tried a piece of her chicken and, again, delicious! Incredibly flavorful chicken. Back on the bus, I asked my residents how they liked their lunch and everyone was stuffed silly and happy! Someone said that they received enough fries to feed their whole table. They also liked the bread used for the sandwiches, which I'm assuming is probably a local bakery? Don't quote me on that. All in all, everyone was pleased, which is a tough feat with my group! Other things: the atmosphere was cool, with modern murals covering the walls and tin cans with silverware in the middle of each table. They also have coffees and a decent selection of sodas, teas, Snapple, etc all for a good price. Only one bathroom, which can slow down things when you're with a group, but they can't really help that. My only critique is that if you're blind like I am (and the seniors that I was with), it would have been handy to have paper or laminated menus on the counter for us to read instead of squinting at the menu board. Overall, great place. If I'm in that area of Richmond again I will definitely be back! read more

Finally, a casual place on the Richmond waterfront with reasonable prices and where I don't feel underdressed in my workout clothes after running from Rosie's museum to Costco and back. I came here after a run because I was craving a Vietnamese iced coffee and other yelp reviews had mentioned it. I went and ordered, expecting it to be made to order, but the cashier just reached over to her side and poured my drink from a pitcher that was already mixed. Not what I expected, but honestly, everywhere else I order these they make it out of sight, so who knows if other places are really any better. The iced coffee was fine, not bad and not great. However, I saw the food coming out for other customers and they looked amazing, so I came back with a friend a few days later after another run. I passed on the iced coffee this time, but I got the Bubbaloo Banh Mi and it definitely satisfied - and I'm somewhat of a banh mi snob. My friend got the chicken cobb salad. Portions were huge and tasty - we both saved half for later. I will definitely keep coming back to try the rest of their menu. read more

Where do I start?! I used to work next door before the school opened. Omg! Let me tell you the aroma that would intentionally linger through the walls and slap me in the face!!! Augh I so wanted this place to be my go to spot for breakfast on my days off BUT the looks I got from the prep person augh. I don't even want to finish the food but I paid a lot of money for it... so my bacon was extra crispy and I don't like it that way. We aren't from the area, and just got done with a doctor's appointment. So I decided to yelp nearby places and lucky this gem popped up! I was really skeptical driving to the location because it's in a hidden area & my husband said this can't be right, but it was and I'm glad! I got the pastrami sandwich, and a side cesar salad, and my husband got the lumpias and loaded fries. We were both impressed with the food and the prices! This is officially my favorite café in Richmond. You cannot beat grabbing a coffee, snack, and taking a walk over to the shore. I take my coffee very seriously; it should be strong and hot. Food tastes GREAT!!!!! Service is QUICK! Meals are FRESH! I have been to Bubbaloo twice and each time had great service, food came out very timely, and tasted great. First time I tried the Seared Salmon Filet Sandwich (Salmon, Mushrooms, Avocado, Swiss, & House Aioli in a Brioche Bun) and it was yummy! I asked for extra sauce to enhance the flavor which made the meal so much more flavorful. Keep in mind the Aioli is a bit on the spicy side. But I love spicy foods so it was perfect. The fries tasted grey and fresh. They weren't super crunch or soft; just right. The piece of Salmon was big enough to get full and save some for later or eat it all and be full for a while. But they DO NOT skimp you on any fries or meat. The second time here I tried the Cali burger with no bacon. It was great and the beef patty was cool just right. No pink. Not dry. I visited Bubbaloo a couple weeks ago. It's a standard cafe tucked into the more industrial area of marina bay. The menu has a mix of standard American foods such as salads and sandwiches along with accurately described "Asian-inspired" dishes. Not open on weekends, but perfect for people working in that industrial area on weekdays, ferry commuters, or the students at the next-door charter school. I tried some of their lumpia which is advertised as consisting of 12 pieces, but it's really just 6 actual pieces chopped in half. Bubbaloo wouldn't be my first pick for food, but I would be willing to come back in the future to try another menu item. read more

Both were filling! Though the beef was not altogether as tender as the bo luc lac I'm accustomed to in Viet places, the grill flavor was nice and the marinade was there. Still gobbled it. Came here for lunch excited that it's only minutes away from the office. They have two outdoor tables that can easily sit 4-6 people. You order your food and seat yourself they call your name out when it's ready they offer self serve water and a few cozy lounge chairs to watch Tv while you wait. The wait for our sandwich & half a salad took approximately 25-30 minutes rather long however it was an extremely busy day, hopefully by grand opening things will run more smoothly so I can come on my lunch. I'm so grateful to Yelp for leading me to this cool spot! I was at the Richmond Superior Court about 3 miles away for a thrilling day of jury duty, and with a 90 minute lunch break I knew I had time to explore. Bubbaloo was near the water, a short drive away, and had high stars - works for me! It was a little confusing pulling into the parking lot at first, and I still don't know the whole story, but it seems like Bubbaloo is on a school campus? If that's true, lucky them! But even just as a visitor it was easy to find, and plenty of nearby parking. It was also a beautiful sunny day so I was happy to see lots of outdoor seating available. Inside the place was packed, always a great sign of trusty regulars! The menu runs a very cool gamut of burgers and fries to rice dishes with asian flare. The fries cooking smelled amazing that day but I was in the mood for something more exotic. I asked the cashier for her recommendation between the lemongrass chicken and the teriyaki chicken, and her vote was teriyaki - sold! It also came with a side salad, the menu said it came with house dressing but I was offered my choice. And even with a line out the door, it only took maybe 5 minutes to get my food. And everyone inside, customer and employee alike, was so friendly! I hadn't been in such a warm welcoming environment in ages, it was mindblowing. Outside in the sunshine, I dug into my chicken, rice and salad, and realized the salad was better served as a mix-in (if you've never had rice salad, you've never lived!). The tender juicy chicken with sweet sauce, warm rice and cool crisp greens made such a lovely combo, and you get a hefty portion for about $10. I didn't think I was all that hungry but I couldn't help finishing it all! Who knew I would be have a reason to be grateful for jury duty?
