What a fabulous place we discovered on our walk through Point Richmond! Absolutely love the whimsy of this shop/café. And I appreciated all the various seating areas throughout the inside and outdoors in the patio. I thought I was coming in for a coffee, but once I saw that they Affogato, I had to order it. I had the espresso poured over there Tara's coffee, ice cream, and it was incredibly scrumptious. How cute it was that the Barista's did a self portrait of themselves and posted it. And I want to know where they got their light fixtures as they were stunning. As it was a warm day, we chose to sit out in their garden patio under a tree, which was quite lovely. read more

My co worker got me their Nutella Kouign Amann to go so I can't speak on their service or ambiance. However, I was really impressed with the pastry! It was very savory and the nutella in the middle was just enough. I do wish it was a bit more flaky and airy but it's probably because when I had received it, it was cool and not as hot as when they would have served it. Today, as I walked in, I heard them yelling out somebody's order that was ready in a mocking type of way and then were laughing with each other about it. It just really rubbed me the wrong way that they were making fun of the fact that the customer didn't come pick up their drink right away or didn't hear them. They seem like very low effort employees. If someone doesn't come pick up their drink when they call it out, they could really just bring it over to the customers table, but they don't. Instead, they keep calling it out in weird voices and use it as an opportunity to laugh and joke. read more

I've been here a few times. Coffee is okay but not strong if you're into strong coffee this is not the place for it. The mocha was more like a hot cocoa it was good though. What an adorable spot in Point Richmond. So cozy and community friendly/oriented. While in the area I stopped in to do some work on the laptop and noticed other worker bees and coffee dates. Super warm and inviting environment with WiFi. There's board games and a small stage (looks like are also a venue for evening events!) I ordered an avo toast and matcha latte. Really went for all green :)) I appreciate the drinks served in super cute mugs, giving the feel that you're curling up at your home away from home. They offer other fun toast options, snacks, salads, beer/wine, coffee/tea, sweet treats, and more. There's plenty of parking in the area, but leave additional time just in case. Solid coffee in Richmond Was walking around and stumbled upon this place. I was amazed at how much seating space this coffee shop had including outdoor seating space. It feels very homey, comfortable, and a great place to hang out with friends. The drinks were amazing, matcha was on the lighter side and was not a strong matcha flavor but overall pretty solid drinks. Service was alright, person on cashier was not very friendly. If you have questions about drink menu items, they're not the best at answering and seem annoyed that you're asking. That being said, I was able to talk to the baristas and they were very friendly so maybe it's just the cashier. Overall I'd come back to try some different items. Love Kaleidoscope and love the coffee. Unfortunately I came in the other day and was treated horribly by one of the manager staff. I parked my bike in front of what was their storage. I went inside to grab my coffee and come back out and before I could do so the worker came up to me and asked me about 4 times if I could move my bike in a very rude tone over and over as I was going to do it. Understand their storage is there but after making me move it they didn't even use it... not a child I just needed to be told once. read more

It's just okay. I've only been on Sundays with a small group and it's the slowest service ever - as if they really haven't figured out how to do this yet. I know working with the public is not everyone's favorite thing, but it shows with the Sunday crew. I just wish it was a little cleaner too, sticky tables, floor, very little attention to clean up. Cute spot in Point Richmond. Lots of laptop campers here so getting a table indoors may be a bit tricky at times. On a side note, how do cafe owners deal with this? Is it just a given that a certain percentage of indoor real estate is automatically relegated to folks who are working away? It doesn't leave much room for folks like me who want a caffeine fix and a place to take a break for a few minutes. I did notice that outside, there were a couple of empty tables however. I ordered a half caff soy latte and friend ordered an iced soy latte with a guava glazed mochi donut. The donut was interesting, not quite what I expected. Very dense however the glaze was delicious! This cafe uses San Francisco-based Wrecking Ball coffee. I noticed that the latte had depth and came out just as I requested: no foam. My friend liked her iced latte as well! I noticed that their fridge also had packaged sandwiches, ciders and beer. Bottles of wine were also for sale. Cheerful employees to boot! read more

I ordered a Vietnamese latte and I thought it was ok. It was pretty sweet and I couldn't taste the coffee as much-- typically a Vietnamese coffee has a nice strong taste that shines through. But the most notable thing about this place is the ambiance. There is an assortment of tables and chairs inside, a couch and sofa seats, and a beautiful backyard patio with even more seating. There's a shelf of books and games. I grabbed a book and sat outside to enjoy the fresh air and trees with my coffee. I'd certainly come back here to sit down and do work or hang out with a friend. At least they also serve food and pastries that seem to be affordably priced compared to oakland cafes! read more

Fabulous coffee! I came in with a couple coffee snob friends, and we agreed that the drip and the cappuccinos were delicious. We liked it so much we came back again the next day. I tried turmeric latte and it was also spectacular. The pastries were okay, maybe 3.8/5. The hummus toast was good but a little underwhelming. The goat cheese toast was not worth the price. Service was a little slow but the space itself is quite cute and there was plenty of good seating. So we could sit down for a moment and wait for our beverages. We popped in after visiting the Golden State Model Railroad Museum, this quaint and vibrant coffee shop was pretty busy - with many people occupying tables whilst working on computers without coffee. WE still managed to get a table and the coffee was pretty good. They roast their own beans and clearly invest time and energy on great tasting coffee. I'm so disappointed my husband went to get my usual Vietnamese iced coffee which I always get only a few other times did it taste off to me but today it was more like condensed milk and milk no coffee whatsoever for almost an $7/$8 drink it's a waste. I've been going here for awhile now, and although the coffee is good and the space and ambiance is good, the customer service is atrocious. Each time I have ever gone, the workers are never friendly or warm, appear to be bored or upset, and are just plain rude. For a nice community space that seems like it values connecting with the Richmond community, the workers do not reflect that sentiment at all. Really hoping this approves. read more

When I think of a "kaleidoscope", I think of those handheld toys you look into that displayed a colorful aura with psychedelic patterns. However, I don't want to go too off topic so I will leave it at that. Which takes me to Richmond where I had the opportunity in checking out "Kaleidoscope Coffee". Located in the cozy downtown area of Point Richmond right on Park Place and south of the 580 freeway, this place has been brewing up delicious coffee beverages and food dating back to late-2015. My significant other and I came here during the morning of Sunday 4/21/2024 at around 10:20am as we needed that extra caffeine kick before venturing to San Francisco for the day. Parking was surprisingly easy to find as this is a very chill and quaint part of town. Since it was a Sunday, many of the small businesses were closed for the day. Kaleidoscope does offer very generous business hours as they are open 7 days a week from 7am-7pm. Best of all, they also have an open-mic night every Monday evening. Once inside, you are greeted by a huge open space area. It was arguably one of the larger sized coffee shops I've frequented. You will find many tables for small parties, comfy sofas, and plush chairs throughout as if you're lounging inside of a friends' living room. This inside area has a huge brick wall complete with shelves that includes dozens of reading books, whole bean/ground coffee for sale, coffee filters, and mugs. Every square foot of this place is well executed perfectly for a cozy and relaxing experience. The outside does not disappoint either as there is a large deck and garden overlooking several trees in the distance. Since I was a little hungry, I ended up ordering toast (they use 2 slices of fresh Sourdough) complete with peanut-butter, honey, and cinnamon. As for my drink, I chose an iced Vietnamese coffee (which offers sweetened condensed milk). My lady ordered their avocado toast (which also use the 2 slices of sourdough) while this included salt, pepper, and olive oil. She went with their hot vanilla latte. Our drinks were ready within a few minutes while our toasts are ready only a couple minutes later. My toast was made to perfection while my lady was generous enough to let me sample her avocado toast. This absolutely hit the spot in every way possible. Oh, and my Vietnamese iced coffee was also a 10/10 and made to perfection. We also had the opportunity meeting the owner Venkatesh (aka Venki) during our visit and mentioned just how wonderful her coffee shop looks. Since we're not from this area, I don't know the next time I will visit but this place is as good as it gets as far as coffee in Richmond go. With that said and done, I am giving "Kaleidoscope Coffee" a unanimous five-star rating. Service, ambiance, prices, coffee, and food was all tops in my book. read more

I wish the staff was friendlier. I walked in to grab a small cup of coffee and a carrot cake. I stood at the counter for like a minute while the two employees were busy talking to each other facing me and then the phone rang and one picked up the phone without even acknowledging me or looking at me while the other one said. The indoors has two cute nooks toward the front of the shop, a general seating area with low and high top tables, a few couches for a cozier seating, and a back patio to enjoy fresh air while you sip on your favorite beverage. They also work on being connected to the community and have comedy nights or live music! Definitely a place that I have sat in for hours enjoying time with my people or just getting away from the everything else. Parking in Point Richmond can be a little busy at times but drive down the side streets and you should be able to find a spot. I should start off with saying i'm a frequent flyer here of sorts. So I can say I have tried a little bit of everything. Kaleidoscope is nestled in cozy downtown Point Richmond and is the only real coffee shop here. It's the cutest little shop with lamps with paper cut outs, local artisan faire, outdoor patio, nooks and an array of seating. Lots of individuals will coke to sit and work on their lap tops. They also offer comedy nights among other events. Shop can sometimes seem a little cluttered because a lot of their inventory is out due to lack of space it seems. Bathroom has large chalk walls where you are encouraged to leave messages. Books to read and Kaleidoscopes for the children to play with. Service is always pleasant, 100% of the time, regardless of how busy it is. The owners are present and available. Small, independent, minority owned. Kaleidoscope qualifies as an actual cafe, they aren't pushing out premade drinks down an assembly line. They have matcha, Haldi Doodh, Various espresso based drinks, specialty syrups, decadent ice cream that leans towards a cleaner food, pastries from local vendors including mochi donuts and vegetarian muffins, goat cheese toast with honey and feta, lots of variety. Prices are fair, portions match the quality and portion sized of offerings. My only cons is that for non espresso based drinks they are sometimes lukewarm, regardless of milk choice. We often ask them to reheat drinks even, flavor is still there hut when ordering a hot beverage I have an expectation that it's more than just 'warm'. They gladly adjust the drink when asked, no complaints. For all of the reasons above I will continue to be a happy patron there. The warmth of drinks is an easy fix and i'm hoping that they may notice a pattern in order to adjust accordingly. Definitely take a trip in when visiting Richmond. read more

A mocha is common so I wanted to make sure it was mine), and she acted like I was a burden with a major attitude. I get that people have bad days, but if you can't be decent to customers, you're in the wrong job. My favorite cafe in the El Cerrito/Richmond area!! I've been here three times - it's my go-to if I want to get work done at a cafe. The chai latte from here is so good!! They have a lot of options for both coffee and tea. They also have plenty of food options and even ice cream as well! The people here are also really nice. Seating is pretty easy to find. Emily is great at what she does. Great customer service. However the boy who was with him when I visited (15Apr2023) is unprofessional. He is short, with glasses, and tattoo on his left arm. Ambiance is great, fairly quiet place. You can sit outside or inside - single tables and a community lounge area towards the back, close to the bathroom. Bathroom is for all genders. It was dirty when I used it. There was a curly hair on the toilet seat along with a streak of something that resembles poop. Paper towels are on the floor. Guess what, because I'm trying to be helpful, I cleaned those, and yes including the gross poop mark and hair. I picked up the paper towels. And wipes the faucet handle that had also something on it - gross. Here's the one star off - I told Emily about it and suggested she should do a round and sanitize. She was busy so she asked the boy with her, so he did. He came back like tops 2 minutes after and said "it's fine, I don't know what she's talking about" (in a judgmental and annoyed voice) DUH it will look clean because I did what you guys are supposed to do. That's is why I said "sanitize." I mean if you will make a comment like that, at least be thankful and be professional about it - meaning don't say it out loud! I mean did you even do your due diligence to check? I helped and clean the bathroom but of course I don't work there so it's not a thorough clean. For a place that serves food, shouldn't sanitation be important? I ordered 24 Carrot Gold and a large latte. Emily was patient and explained to me what a Gibraltar is and was excellent at asking if I'd like a regular milk or an alternative. I'm thankful because I am one of the unfortunate ones, lactose intolerant. Latte is latte. It came in a cute Winnie the Pooh mug and a leaf art work. The muffin was ok. Nothing unique about it. Parking is street parking. It was not hard to find parking when I visited (Saturday around 1pm). Some streets have 2h restriction some do not. read more

Came here for a morning coffee before a work day in Richmond. My friend ordered the blueberry muffin (pictured) and avocado toast, and I got an iced latte (pictured). Quality of the coffee was good and it was a tasty latte! It didn't feel too highly caffeinated, which was good for me on this particular day, but maybe not everyone's preference. My friend said the muffin was incredible and was the perfect texture - not too mushy or dry. There is a very cute and spacious seating area in the back with outlets to plug in your computer. While I enjoy the ambience of the café, I have to agree with other reviewers that the customer service could greatly improve. The male barista (I didn't catch his name) was curt. During my previous visit to this café, the same barista repeatedly knocked on the bathroom door and jiggled the handle while my friend was inside. I eventually had to sternly tell him to be patient, as what he was doing was both rude and unnecessary. It's disappointing that the customer service is so poor, especially given that this café is considered a beacon spot in Point Richmond, where people come expecting a good experience.
