We wanted to try this place out because it's one of those iconic places that we were opened to by the TV show Diners,Drive-Ins And Dives. It was a small but busy place that had a plethora of options to choose from. The food. We got a full Hebrew hammer and was able to split between two adults. It was pretty good. However I feel like the coleslaw took the taste over everything else. If you have two adults it's worth the money to split a full size compared to buying two halves. Food for though. (Pun intended) We also got a half streak and cheese. That all it was just steak and cheese and bread. If that's up your alley then go for it. For kids, the only option that was givin to me was the half loaf pizza. You could add Pepperonis for 2$ more or something like that. Which I felt was steep. We just got the cheese and it was 6$ not to bad. Then there was the chips... we were hungry right then and there so I thought chips no biggy. No. This bag of chips was 5$ . Way overpriced smh. I was making up for lost time because this place was so close to my school and it wasn't until the closing of my time that I finally decided to go there. Part of it was because I was craving an Italian beef sandwich and this place claimed to have an authentic Chicago style one. Well, if you look at the picture it may not be an exact facsimile but it was tasty with the aged, unmelted provolone being a good addition to the sandwich. I first found out about this spot either on Man Vs Food or Bizarre foods with Andrew Zimmerman and I was so happy this was a local spot, close to my job too! The staff was super cool and my friend and I actually had a conversation with whom I believe to be the co-owners maybe? Very friendly people. We were running some after work errands, so decided to grab and go, but when I got home and ate my sandwich i was IN LOVE. I got the beef cheese steak and my friend got the chicken cheese steak. Alright, so it is no news that Bub and Pop's is absolutely delicious and arguably the best sandwich spot downtown, if not in DC. My go to options there are the chicken parm and the beef cheese steak, hoagie style (with arugula, tomatoes, and relish) without the thousand island dressing (and added mushrooms, of course!). The big question is if you want a half or whole sandwich which you can answer by determining if you want leftovers or not. You are almost guaranteed two full meals if you go for the whole (unless you are super, super hungry). If you are lucky enough, you will be there when there is still bread pudding available. I consider myself something of a sandwich connoisseur. I could eat them all day long. It seems like such a simple food, but there's so many things to get right: which ingredients to use, the quality of the ingredients, the proportions of the ingredients. So when I hear about a sandwich shop making these unique combinations and making dressings and pickles in house, it grabs my attention. I walked in on MLK Day and I ordered two half sandwiches. First, I got the Italian with Genoa salami, prosciutto, capicola, pepperoni, provolone, arugula, roma tomatoes, hoagie relish, Bub's vinaigrette, and a pile of shredded Pecorino Romano. I believe mayo has no business on an Italian sandwich, so that had to go. The quality of the bread was amazing, it was soft and it had some real flavor to it. If anything, just a little crunch on the outside would have put it over the top. The sandwich has all the right meats, in other words, no regular ham (Thank God!). I loved the addition of the Romano cheese too. It's different, but the smokiness works so well against the sweetness of the vinaigrette. But to me, the star is the hoagie relish (hot peppers, sweet peppers, pickle & onion). They keep it on the condiment table with sliced red onion, hoagie relish, sweet peppers, and hot peppers. Plus bottles of ketchup and hot sauce. I added a couple more spoonfuls of relish to the Italian for some extra zip. I also had the Jewish hoagie with corned beef, brisket, kosher salami, Swiss cheese, spicy mustard, thousand island, and slaw. Normally, it would have roast turkey, but they had run out, so they gave me extra of the other meats. I only wish it had pastrami. The sandwich had great flavor, but had a lot of slaw. I took a little bit off and just ate it on the side. It was so impressive that as stuffed as these two sandwiches were, the bread did not fall apart. I don't know what one of those last reviewers is talking about with the bread getting soggy. I'm also a big pickle fan. I got their housemade kosher dill pickle chips. For two dollars, I got a small plastic cup filled with pickle juice and some very flavorful pickles. But I was fishing out the actual pickles from the sliced garlic and the fresh dill. Very good quality. The two half sandwiches with the pickles and a drink cost me $26, which is pretty fair for downtown DC. The food was so good that I can't imagine coming back to DC and not having a sandwich or two here. I am still anxious to try the cheesesteak and the bolognese Parmesan. read more

So nice and soft on the inside while ever so slightly crisp on the outside absolutely heavenly! Would definitely go again- all the sandwiches on the menu look great! Guy Fieri, who is the Mayor of Flavortown and for all intents and purposes seems like a good guy that I would like to hang out with, recommended it so I too decided to give it a shot. The order came out within 10 minutes. It was just enough time for me to admire the decor on one wall. The two sandwiches with opposite flavors and texture created a nice balance for one meal. The Italian hoagie had loads of savory and tangy flavor because of the variety of salami, amazing provolone, hoagie relish, and vinaigrette. When I wanted a break from the sharp flavor explosion, I switched over to the Hebrew Hammer that was loaded with meat (double meat not necessary - it probably won't fit, these subs are loaded!) and a creamy cole slaw with a nice kick from the spicy mustard.
