We stopped here for a quick bite to eat on our road trip down the coast. While the sandwiches are a little small, they are very flavorful and a nice bite to grab quickly and go! The New Yorker sandwich was perfectly panini'd with pastrami, melted cheese, and coleslaw. The sweetness of the coleslaw really brought out the cheesiness and gooeyness of the cheese. The veggie sandwich was fresh and delicious. The couple running the cafe were very sweet and even gave us a chocolate crepe for the road. If you don't have time for a sit down but don't want to compromise food quality, I strongly suggest you come here! I've only been able to go for breakfast so far. The sausage and egg croissant breakfast sandwich is piping hot and delicious. Their egg, sausage, spinach, and pepper Jack cheese tomato tortilla wrap is pure comfort and down right tasty. The coffee is strong, and the service is friendly, professional, and efficient. The food here is solid, the place is kept extremely clean, and the service (and their sandwiches) is consistent. Came in for lunch today. I had a Reuben sandwich, which was very good. Fresh and not overloaded with sauce. The sandwich plus a bottled lemonade and tip ended up at $13, which is pretty good for downtown DC. Inside is cozy and was not very busy at 1pm on Thursday. Oxford Cafe is a great stop for lunch! I work in the building across the street and wandered in one day, looking to try something new. I was a little overwhelmed at first, with how many options there are on the board - dozens of sandwiches, paninis, wraps, and salads to choose from. But each item has a detailed description of what it contains and there is not a lot of overlap, so each sandwich is distinct. The food is all made to order, so it is fresh, and it is QUICK. I honestly wish more people knew about Oxford Cafe - this place is literally right under my office building, tucked away in between M street and Connecticut Avenue and has been a go to for every single person in our office simply because of the quality of food you receive for the price as well as the reliable and affable service. For breakfast, My go to is their egg sandwich on an everything bagel. It's always nice to have something warm and soft in the morning and their bagels are always so warm/fresh right after they make this sandwich for you - and the best part is that it's only $1.99! I seriously can't justify going anywhere else for breakfast simply because you can't beat the quality for the price anywhere else. I'm also in love with their different smoothie options and they are all made with fresh fruit and Greek yogurt making it a great substitute for breakfast as well. As for lunch, they have a variety of sandwich, wrap, and salad options for a very affordable price (ranging from $4 to $8). I suggest trying out their bibimbap wrap for something a little different and their chicken salad is always a safe option and one of my go to meals if I need a quick bite to eat during lunch. The two ladies who work the cash register are so sweet and welcome you with a smile every time you walk in to order - even at 7 in the morning (like really - no one should be that happy to be at work that early). Really makes my day just seeing them work so hard to keep this place running. The couple that owns this place are special people. When I was working in D.C., I used to eat lunch there as often as I could. James made a point to learn my name and used it as often as he could, which I really appreciated. He would also ask me about my hometown and always had a smile on his face when I walked in and out. His wife is very sweet and makes great sandwiches, salads and bagels. And she prepares everything so neatly. The quality and great taste of the food was always something I could count on. I usually hit the CA Grill or Jack's Fresh when I'm lazy, but luckily another lunch spot opened up on M St. near my workplace and I just had to check it out. I was actually a few days behind my coworkers who had already been and gave it pretty positive reviews. Harvest Cobb Salad, yum! Roast Turkey sandwich with all extras, fresh Boar's Head, filling! I don't eat out enough to know if it is pricey, my sandwich was around $6 so I think it is relatively average priced? Variety in the menu from custom sandwich, focaccia sandwich, hot panini's, wraps, salads and smoothies. The other stuff outside the general sandwiches seem pricey though (wraps at $7-$8?) but like I said I don't eat around here often. I think the best part is because it is new it hasn't reach the usual business of a DC lunch crowd (I hope that it's not because it's not good... ). My sandwich was ready a few seconds after I paid. Man, I LOVE THIS PLACE SO MUCH. I work in the building above, and already know that whenever I move on to a new employer, I will continue to come here if it's within reasonable biking distance. It's that good. Where to even begin?! First of all, the prices are really reasonable. I have always griped that one of DC's biggest shortcomings in the age old 'DC vs. NYC' battle is its lack of cheap and delicious delis...I've finally come to my senses and realized that what I've been looking for has been right under my nose all along. The only downside here is that with the mere $5 card minimum, you sometimes need to scramble to pick out more things if you're not carrying cash. Not to worry though--they have an awesome selection of pre-made/packaged goodies including international candy, pints of ice cream, individual granola bars, big pickles fresh from the jar, a diverse selection of chips, yogurts and parfaits, fruit, and even hardboiled eggs! Their drink selection is awesome as well, with a near-endless array of iced teas as well as your classic sodas, water, sparkling water, V8, etc. Honestly, the only times I've 'stumped' Oxford Cafe were while 1) looking for cough drops, and 2) hoping to grab a small bottle of milk for the cereal I had at my office. The breakfast is so simply, authentically good that I honestly crave it on weekends: egg and cheese on an everything bagel is my go-to, though the veggie omelette with cheese is also delicious (though an 'acquired taste/sight' as others have mentioned. It's not pretty to look at, but I really enjoy it.) Even the plain ole everything bagel with cream cheese is somehow crave-able and again, SO CHEAP. Beyond that, I've recently discovered their lunch offerings and regret not doing so sooner. Highly recommend the tuna melt: tuna salad, melty cheese (swiss, I think?), sprouts, red onions, tomato, and spinach on a lovely marbled rye. For like, $6!! I rarely buy lunch, but when I have in the past usually spent the requisite $13 or so for a CAVA bowl. No longer! My workday meal of choice is now a sandwich and a smoothie (about $5, pretty standard--I love the School Days, which has peanut butter, bananas, yogurt, and honey, and tastes like a PB milkshake) which comes out to the same as a CAVA bowl while being more filling. It's the best. And one more thing: I don't think I necessarily go during 'peak hours', but every time, without fail, these folks are FAST. Like, shockingly fast. For a breakfast sandwich or bagel, I can be eating back at my desk within five minutes. Even lunch is crazy fast, now that I think about it. Did I dream this place up?! This place is solid. I grab a breakfast or lunch sandwich here at least once or twice a week. It's reasonably priced, freshly made, and made of much higher quality than similar sandwich stands (i.e. Boar's Head lunch meat as opposed to the stuff with a bunch of chemicals and fillers in it and all freshly made). Breakfast: They do a really good job of breakfast sandwiches here. I either get eggs and something on an English muffin or lox on a bagel. The bread base, either the English muffin or bagel, is always good. So many places that serve egg sandwiches on English muffins do not sufficiently toast the muffin. This place toasts them nicely without burning them. The bagels are surprisingly decent, too. They aren't amazing like Bullfrog or Bethesda, but they are pretty good, even if you don't get them toasted, which is surprising for a takeout place like this. They also let you put whatever you want on the sandwich. I usually get tomato and avocado or cream cheese with my eggs. I don't recommend the omelettes. For some reason, the way they fold the scrambled eggs when they make the sandwiches keeps them a lot softer and moist. The omelettes are dry and brown (a key reason I'm not giving them five stars). Lunch: I usually get some sort of turkey sandwich. They give you a decent amount of meat, but it's not one of those annoying over-sized sandwiches that makes you fall asleep at your desk at 2pm. The avocado is always ripe, and the other veggies are fresh. I would not recommend the salads. They are mostly made on iceberg lettuce, and the dressings are packaged. Other: Get the smoothies. They are all real fruit and veggies, and they'll let you design your own if you ask. I get a modification of the berry one with no juice or yogurt and add spinach and ice. Oxford has a huge selection of higher quality packaged and fresh snacks. They have boiled eggs, apples, and bananas, as well as stuff like Haribo gummies, nice chocolate, Kind bars, etc... Finally, the people who work here are super nice. read more

I was very excited when this new cafe opened near my office and have been pretty pleased so far. All of the panini I have tried (esp the roast beef and the grilled chicken with mozzarella and pesto) were quite good and priced on par with most other places in the area. Another great perk is the offering of assorted candies and snacks, including a range of European brands you don't always see. Their materials say various things about supporting socially responsible businesses, but the evidence isn't there to support claims one way or the other - seems like they are trying, though. The service is okay - they still have a few kinks to work out of the system. I also wish they gave better instructions for new folks about how to order (in short: best if by number on the menu). The smoothie I tried was the fruitful day that has raspberries, strawberries, and banana. I was not impressed. Granted raspberries are not the sweetest fruit but I couldn't taste anything. It was bland and very watery. They blended this too much and it was basically flavored water. I only tried them because another restaurant next to them is closed due to construction. The reason I give this joint four stars is because of the value of the food you receive. I ordered a turkey sandwich. They cut your sandwich in half and the first thing your eye latches onto is the amount of meat they stack onto your sandwich. From what I remember the sandwich was approximately $6-7 dollars! That's such a great value for a huge sandwich especially in Washington DC. This is a good spot to get lunch or catch up with a friend if you both work around the area. A strange plus for me is that they have outlets! This might be important for those who need to use a laptop during lunch or, like me, those who have phones that are running out of batteries.
