During a recent trip to DC, we picked this spot to be our go-to for breakfast. It seems like this spot has been in the neighborhood for a long time and for a good reason at that. I think this might be the best bacon egg and cheese bagel I've ever had. The bagel was soft in the middle but crispy on the outside, the bacon was super crunchy and plentiful and the egg was perfectly seasoned. Just one bagel left me stuffed till lunchtime. Prices are pretty good too. I wish a spot like this existed near my college. My sibling also tried their chicken pastrami sandwich and though it was a bit pricier than their bagels, it was enough for a whole meal. It wasn't too long of a wait for orders. This place has been on my list for about 5 years and I finally made it. In short: it was worth the wait. The line was out of the door when I arrived but moved relatively fast. It is simply a deli in a convenience store. The store has tons of snack options that will go well with whatever sandwich you order. 90% of the time there is a line out the door, and there's a reason for that. This place has some of the best sandwiches I've found in DC served from an eclectic and sometimes overwhelming NYC bodega-style deli. Keep in mind, the sandwiches aren't cheap--ranging from $5-$10 depending on toppings--but they make sure to pack on as many ingredients as possible to make that price point worth it. If you've been going to Call Your Mother for your breakfast sandwich fix, come here instead. Their eggs are always cooked perfectly over-easy/over-medium, and they load on the bacon. I'm not even exaggerating when I say that they put about a half pound of bacon on each sandwich. That alone makes the $6.50 price tag worth it. Not to mention, they source their bagels from Whatsa Bagel in Bethesda, which has bagels that are at least on par with Call Your Mother. read more

Our order was processed fairly quickly and we were out the door and back to the hotel just a few blocks away. My salmon bagel was well loaded, maybe too much salmon to be honest. Sadly, the bagel was hard and it wasn't the soft deliciousness I was expecting as a basic indulgence. My hubby's bacon egg and cheese sandwich was crazy loaded with bacon... as if we asked for extra, extra, extra, EXTRA bacon! We are bacon lovers so that was a happy surprise, but the egg was on the light aside for a sandwich.
