The best brisket I had during our food tour of Austin. Fat is fully rendered, smoky, and super flavorful. The beef is falling apart. This place had no line during early dinner. There is only a small stick at the end of the bite on the meat, thus it is not what I would consider "perfect" brisket. The beef is tender, juicy, and flaky enough to make for an enjoyable mouthfeel. The crisp burn on the skin adds smoky complexity and crust to an otherwise soft palate experience. I cannot fathom how anyone complains about "too much fat" on a brisket serving. The fat is the best part! It's one of the few situations in food where an ingredient flavors itself with a sauce when heated up. Unlike a lot of other bar-tied-in food trucks, they have their own seating. So you could get away with just going for barbecue and not patronizing the bar. This would make sense if a. If none of the above applies, You should double up and do Brown's and the Corner Bar on the same visit. I've tried almost all the best bbq places in Austin (franklin, la bbq, mickelthwait, kerlin, terry blacks, Valentina's etc), and Brown's belongs firmly in that group as well. Excellent quality on all their meats. Wonderful brisket, pulled pork, pork ribs, regular sausage and they had some great boudin on my recent visit as well. I also really enjoy their Mac and cheese, and Brown's may be one first the few Bbq places that actually "tries" when it comes their sides rather than mailing it in the way many of the rest seem to. First taste of BBQ here and it was pretty solid. Did a few of my obligatory baseline items: 1. Brisket - super tender (although I would have liked a little bit more smoke and bark on my cut) 2. Beef Rib - these vary in size but I managed to get one that was on the smaller end. Falling off the bone and mopped with a great slightly sweet sauce. Yum 3. Pork Rib - spare type with a good hunk of meat and cartilage on the end. Good glaze and tender meat. Two different sauces - one that's a little more orange and one that's more red. The orange one had a bit more tang to it, but both were good. Also tried cabbage and potato salad (liked the potato salad - sweet mustardy goodness). read more

I had stopped by the truck to inquire about fried turkeys for Thanksgiving, but sadly, this year, they are just doing smoked turkeys. However, while I was there chatting with Sharon who was very nice and accommodating, I asked if I could place an order in advance for a later pick up and they took care of me. We ordered 2 lbs of brisket, 2 lbs of chicken and a side of mac and cheese...that had bits of pork in it! I do not eat pork, so I could only eat a couple of bites and it was delicious, but I am not going to lie, my heart did break a little as I love a good mac and cheese. On the weekday that I visited, I was happy to see a very short line. It was a little cold out, but nothing this Hawaiian beach boy can't handle. Brown's BBQ is a food truck with outdoor seating available on several picnic benches. There are approximately 12 parking stalls on the lot. They charge the meat by the pound. I ordered the beef ribs and brisket which came with two sides ( cabbage and beans). The brisket and ribs were both moist and full of flavor. The meat fell off of the bone. When you are driving around Austin and see a BBQ trailer you have to stop. Browns on Lamar is no exception. They have all the classics along with beef shoulder and pulled pork. You can get meat by the pound, as a sandwich or a wrap. The wraps made sense and allows more BBQ flavor to come through and are easier to handle since the portions are quite generous. The brisket is quite good and the shoulder had plenty of flavor and a bit of crispness that was a nice compliment to the brisket. The sausage is good but didn't leap out as amazing. The brisket is the winner. My only less than high compliment is that the souse is a bit different than what you would expect. It is a bit herby and maybe more mustard than ketchup based. Get it on the side so you can decide for yourself. Prices are fair and the guys are friendly. Go early as there is a small line mist of the time and limited outdoor seating. I'll be back! read more
