Let's just say Granny's Tacos is an E. 7th food truck that has some amazing breakfast tacos and ample seating. Parking can be hit/miss in the area but don't let that stop you from visiting Granny's for some killer breakfast tacos. Walk up and order at the window, get your number, and find a seat while your tacos are made hot and fresh. Tacos are sizable here and three left me stuffed and waddling back to my car on a beautiful Sunday morning. I judge a places breakfast tacos off of a couple of standards items/orders: Potato/Egg/Cheese and either Migas or Chiliquilas Tacos. Happy to report both their Potato Egg and Cheese as well as the Migas tacos were both delish. Fresh flour tortillas filled to near overstuffed status of wonderful breakfast taco filling(s). I also went with their nopalitos egg and cheese tacos and was equally as happy with that offering. Also, shout-out to that spicy green salsa. It was the perfect accompaniment to the tacos. The staff taking orders and pumping out tacos were friendly and pleasant. Willing to offer any suggestions or address any questions you may have, as well as being fast and efficient. I decided to check this spot out because of the great reviews and it was super close to where I was at. The truck is set up in a nice area with seats and tables in shade and street parking was easy enough to find on a Sunday morning. The service was friendly and quick as well. The food unfortunately was not great and my other two friends agreed. Al pastor tacos 1/5- The tortillas were good and I believe they make them fresh however the pork it's self was dry, the flavor was bland, and there was no pineapple on the taco when it states on the description it comes with pineapple. Some of the worst I've had. Breakfast tacos 3/5- As you can see by the photo, I got an egg, beans, and bacon taco and an eggs, chorizo, and beans taco and both were fine. The eggs were cooked perfectly and again the tortilla was good. The chorizo and eggs had a nice flavor and I'd get it again if I had to come back. Unfortunately they didn't mix in the bacon into the eggs which feels very lazy and is awkward to eat. The beans were super bland so they ruined both tacos rather than adding to it. Also, they only added it on half of the taco and eggs on the other half as you can see on my photo which felt weird to eat cause I had bites of just straight beans and no egg. The red sauce was not super spicy and the green wasn't either but the red is spicier than the green. This place isn't horrible but I won't be back. You have to order, pay first & find a table for yourself. It takes about 10-15 minutes to get your food. I came in with a group of visiting friends and was pleasantly surprised to find good, reasonably priced tacos here in East Austin. The tacos were about $5-6 and came with lots of meat. The space was a bit confusing because it seemed like there was an outdoor patio in the back and a covered patio on the side and a food truck in the back, but we chose to sit in the side patio which was nice. No skimping on chips, cheese, carnitas. Very happy with the portion size, great flavoring and tenderness of the carnitas, and the pickled jalapenos were a nice touch. Burrito (4/5) - The burrito was solid, but this may be my preference, but I like burritos with a little bit of freshness. I am a Granny's OG - have been coming here for several years starting out when she and her husband were running the show. She made the best salsa and her tacos were always high-quality and large Marge. She always treated me like a grandson when I showed up. Now her family runs the show and I was eager to see how things would be and sure enough. I was very pleased to see their quality has maintained, and the tacos are still pretty well sized. they recently expanded to the building next to their trailer, which is a really really nice spread. There are tables to sit but inside is AC cooled and nice seating and a bar area as well. Almost like a mini coffee shop, but there's a lot of room here and I was really impressed. I love the Chilaquiles with the red Mole and I had an egg. We also got another taco with beef and egg. And I love their broccoli cheese egg taco. My friend visiting Town just loved their quality and this was one of his favorite breakfast taco experiences. I will make sure to continue to go back here more consistently as I was very pleased to see that what made them great is still present - really good quality, tacos and ingredients and portions. Enjoyed a cold beverage for the first time in their restaurant. They have been providing East Austin with delicious tacos out of their truck. It's so inspiring to see how far they've come! I'm seriously shocked by the hype surrounding Granny's Tacos. Maybe I went on an off day, but after hearing all the rave reviews, I honestly expected a lot more. Unfortunately, my experience didn't live up to the buzz at all. I ordered the Egg, Bean, Bacon, Potato, and Cheese Breakfast Taco--pretty straightforward, right? But sometimes the simplest things are the hardest to get right. And this one missed the mark. The Beans: These beans tasted like they came straight out of a can of "spicy" Bush's beans. They were bad - not the real, homemade frijoles I was hoping for. I'm talking about that lard-infused, slow-cooked flavor you get from legit frijoles, not this weird, canned, weirdly-spicy mess. Not the fresh, comforting taste I was craving. The Eggs: Yikes. The eggs were burnt. Not a little bit crispy--I'm talking full-on brown, like they had been sitting on the grill for too long. The texture was dry, overcooked, and just... unappealing. Yellow and brown rubber. The Bacon: I don't even know - I couldn't even focus on it over the gross bean flavor and the burnt eggs. The Tortilla: This definitely tasted like a store-bought tortilla situation. I took one bite, and I couldn't even finish it. Between the canned beans, burnt eggs, and sad tortilla, it wasn't worth the calories. I ended up tossing the whole thing in the trash. I really wanted to love it, but this was just not a good experience. Maybe Granny's is usually better, and I just caught them on an off day. But based on this taco, I won't be back. Austin has no shortage of taco spots that get the basics right--fresh ingredients, good flavors, and a taco that makes you want to eat the whole thing. This just didn't deliver. If you want a taco that tastes like it was made with care, you might want to look elsewhere. read more

These tacos were so good! Note- there are a few parking spots right in front of the restaurant, but they cost $15. If you park on the street literally anywhere else it's only 2-$3/hour. We parked a few blocks away and walked over for a weekday lunch. We browsed the food truck menu and each ordered a few tacos. I got the shrimp taco and veggie taco with beans. My fiance got the birria, steak, and pork tacos. They are HUGE and 2 was enough. I also got chips and salsa, and the medium salsa was way too hot for me. The salsa verde was so flavorful and I poured it on my tacos. The shrimp was definitely my favorite. The spicy chipotle sauce with the avocado was *chef's kiss*. We each got a margarita from inside their cafe and really liked it. They have an indoor area that is air conditioned and has a bathroom. Prices were good and food was delicious.
