On our walk, we spotted this slightly faded sign for Kesos Tacos, and something about it just felt right... so we followed the instinct. First impression? I noticed the $1 mimosas with brunch (say less). My husband, meanwhile, immediately clocked the prices and raised an eyebrow. I had to remind him: this is Texas--tacos are not small here. So... who won? We both did. We ordered the Don Keso, which quickly came out with an absolute mountain of chips (no skimping here). The tacos came out shortly after and completely proved my point--massive, loaded, and worth every penny. My husband went from skeptical to fully locked in, happily feasting on his plate--and he loved the Fire Chick taco. The standout for me was the puerco rojo taco--juicy, flavorful, and just messy enough to remind you it's the real deal. The habanero salsa had a great kick without being overwhelming. I have to thank InKind for helping me discover this place! They always give me free credits and one day I had $25 credit and when I looked at what nearby restaurants I could use it at, Kesos Tacos (right up Springdale from me) was on the list. I would compare their themed tacos to Torchy's a little, but I think Kesos is healthier cause they have beans and more veggies like spinach in their breakfast tacos. I love the Rise & Shine which is packed with chorizo, bacon, pork carnitas, eggs, jalapeño, refried beans, and queso!!! For my meal I ordered the Migas Breakfast Taco which comes with scrambled eggs, pico de gallo, tortilla chips, and queso on a flour tortilla. I opted to not have pico on mine. The taco was good. The eggs were decent. The tortilla chips were not crispy but they were cooked with the eggs so I expected that. The queso was good and lightly spread out on the taco which I appreciated. I also ordered the potato and egg taco which had potato, scrambled eggs and queso on a flour tortilla. This taco was also good. This combination of ingredients filled me up. On both of my tacos I added some avacado salsa that I got from the salsa bar. It was good and added a little more flavor to both of my tacos. My husband ordered the Longhorn taco which comes with scrambled eggs, potato, fajita beef, and queso on a flour tortilla. He said it was good. He also ordered the Fire Chick taco which is fried chicken that's red on the exterior, lettuce, pico de gallo, cilantro ranch, and queso on a flour tortilla. He opted for no pico de gallo and no queso. He really liked this taco. Overall it was great service with friendly people working there. I was at a work conference and I had to find food nearby so I went and checked out Kesos Tacos with a colleague of mine. I tried the Barbacoa, the Puerco Rojo, and the John Special. I did not necessarily care for the Barbacoa as it was a very small portion, and it was kind of salty. The Puerco Rojo stole the show as the meat was perfectly cooked, and the jalapeño salsa perfectly complimented it. The John Special was great with shredded cheese. We also ordered chips and guacamole, which were amazing. The other star here is all of the salsa at the salsa bar. While I did not like the tomatillo or the habanero or the salsa roja much, the jalapeño salsa was insanely good. The bathrooms were really clean and the staff was awesome. Located off the MLK highway, this cute little taco joint is nice. Ordered fried avocado, fire chick, chicken fajita, pollo flaco tacos as well as frozen lime margarita, queso and chips, and many salsas. Our favorite salsas were the red and habanero. There are/may be even better taco/marg places out there, but found this one to be good for a quick bite and to get your taco fix. I can't remember which of the tacos we liked best. The queso and chips was okay, but the queso is more on the milky side than flavor side. Staff/service was good and quick, you can also fill up your own sauces which is nice. Restaurant has a lot of seating with painted walls and animations. Recommend going to try all the flavor profiles of sauces. read more

These might be the worst tacos I've had in Austin besides Taco Bell. There are many better tacos in town. Also, the queso is thin and unappealing. Additionally, this place is not family friendly. My five year old went by himself and got a disposable plastic cup lid by the drink dispenser and started playing with it. One of the staff came and told me I needed to control my kid better. I can understand why a restaurant doesn't want unaccompanied kids so their request wasn't totally out of line but I could see my kid from where I was sitting and it didn't seem like he was annoying any other customers. I order a barbacoa taco and it had a bad taste so I asked Juan D the manager if I could return it for another taco. He said straight out said no and I asked again I'm sorry but it taste bad but I did enjoy my Mr.Toro taco. His response was straight out no! I wont and why should I? He then replied tell me why and what was wrong with the taco so I repeated my self a third time. It has a bad taste and the meat is mushy. Needless to say he did refund my money either for the taco. I had just mentioned to all my coworkers here at work how great kesos tacos were when I use to buy them when I lived south Austin. We both ordered the pastor taco which were really good with a more detectable amount of pineapple than we usually find to be the case. This would clearly be a five star review were it not for a very limited alcohol menu and low staffing which lead to a longer wait than most smaller restaurants. I have been here a couple times but many years ago. My wife and I wanted a simple lunch and so came by again. We were very to know that they are even still here. We each had 2 tacos; triple oinker, fried chick and another one that I don't recall. Simply put, we were incredibly happy with our tacos. We ate everything and could have eaten more. Their sauces are also really tasty. They have several levels of heat so you can customize to your liking. All in all, a great taco place. We will frequent the place when we want tacos. read more

Amazing spot! The place is beautifully decorated, with lots of light streaming in and a gorgeous mural. Dropped by here for lunch on a Wednesday and it had a lot of people, but not too busy that we couldn't find a seat. They're not playing with their hot sauce bar, they were so so spicy but amazing! I got the shrimp taco while my friends got the chicken and veggie. All of us really enjoyed them and the portions were quite big for a taco. The grande nachos were a hit too and they tasted so so fresh. Not that greasy mess with soggy chips. I would compare the quality of Kesos to Torchy's. The tacos are good, although there are many better options in Austin. I've tried the migas, baja shrimp, classico, puerco rojo, and islander tacos. The baja shrimp and puerco rojo were my favourites. The shrimp in the islander has a strange taste, so I would definitely recommend the baja shrimp over it. Went to this place for a quick lunch with my friends! I ordered the Grande Nachos with veggies for the table and got the Riser and the Fried Avocado tacos. The nachos were really great, my only complaint was that the ingredients weren't evenly spread out. The tacos were both really good, the Riser could've used more flavor but salsas from the salsa bar helped with that. Two tacos and the nachos were a great portion size for one person. I was excited about queso being on everything, but at times felt like it was lost when eaten with the other components. The queso itself wasn't super flavorful on its own but tasted great with everything as a whole. Service was friendly and really fast! read more
