This restaurant shouldn't even get a star. First off, my friend and I went to this establishment for some drinks. My friend did not like her guava cosmo so she asked if she can get another drink because it did not taste good. The server said he can not switch out the drinks. So we then ask for the manager. He was extremely rude and possibly intoxicated. Had an attitude and cut us off. I will never ever come back to this establishment again . It's not worth coming back again. read more

The seawater was the best I've ever voluntarily or involuntarily swallowed. The food was very good, although slightly over priced for the quality. I got the crabcakes and was really impressed by the meatiness of them. I was stuffed after finishing them with the apple salad and fries, but I guess you're paying for location when they cost $16 and jerk chicken is $15. Let's remember that there's little hole-in-the-wall West Indian spots where you can get the same food for half that price. Speaking of location, the decor in here was confused and slightly ironic; half tropical ("bungalow" styled bar area with palm and banana leaves hanging around), half colonial (oil paintings of European countrysides). But it was dark and chill and the music was good so I guess that's all that matters. The service was very good. They also don't serve dessert...huge faux pas in my book, and I personally think Cake Man Raven could use some competition. read more

Yall just really lost it. The best food with a service that I never experienced before in my life. Me and my friend came in here about two weeks ago. Nobody greeted us or even said we be right with you when we walked in about 7-10 minutes after we sat ourselves down this guy comes to the table with two menus claiming he works there and put the menus down with a bag of weed. YES A BAG OF WEED. I proceed to ask him if he works there and he said yes so at his point I dont even know im just laughing. Then this other guy comes and tells us we have to get up we cant sit at a table for 4 when its just two of us. Now we all the way confused and he tells us to sit at a hightop table with one chair!!! Then him and my friend goes back and forward instead of handling it well he just starts arguing at this point I just asked him straight up if he was going to serve us or not. Then he says he is gonna get the owner that was working the kitchen fine get the owner. The owner passes by us two times but completely ignore us and yes I know you the owner because your picture is all over the internet. INSTED OF ACTING LIKE THE OWNER YOU ARE, dealing with a bad situation you just run into the kitchen. At this point we are cancelling our other because we were afraid somebody was going to spit in our food. Brooklyn Moon Cafe just bow out gracefully - this place is not for adults! the service is awful, the food is questionable (which took 45 minutes) and this place need a good scrubbing...I thought i give them another try after the being closed for 104 violations. The food here is delicious; portions are generous and the prices are quite reasonable. My favorite sides are the mac & cheese and the fries, and I always have a hard time choosing between the shrimp and the salmon because I love them both. The service is also great, Amir the host is always friendly and helpful. The reason I'm taking a star off is because I went last night and the waitress with the bright red hair had an attitude (I never caught her name). She belittled Amir in front of customers for something that was not his fault. When I came in, I told him that there would be three of us but that the other two were parking the car. He sat me at a table, gave me a menu, and said he would bring two more as soon as the other girls arrived. Not even 30 seconds after they walked in and sat down, the redhead took it upon herself to loudly admonish Amir for not bringing menus over. He tried to explain to her that he was about to, and she cut him off and continued to talk to him like he was a child. Totally not cool to do in front of customers, especially when we as customers weren't upset about it. I really hope that the manager speakers to her about this because it was quite uncomfortable to witness. She also didn't smile nor did she check on our table regularly. I'm a frequent diner at Brooklyn Moon, but moving forward I will not allow this woman to wait on me. I'll either request another waitress or dine elsewhere. read more

This was probably the worst food I've ever eaten and the most unprofessional restaurant I've ever been served in. First off, the seats were torn up and looked shabby. Random groups of guys kept coming in to the restaurant to say hi to the chef or other people and they were so loud my mom and I couldn't even hear each other. At one point a guy who was sitting across from us ran out of the restaurant to yell at someone down the street before coming back in. The only other waiter in the place actually sat down at one of the tables and started texting. Our waitress seemed unsure about the menu items and specials which in turn, confused us. After getting our orders she went to chat up the table behind us for a good five minutes before putting in our order. The menus we recieved were also really shabby and gross looking. The plastic protector sheet was ripped and the paper looked as if water-and other drinks-had spilled on it multiple times. My mom and I ordered the crab cakes, apple salad, big fish and grilled chicken sandwich. The appetizer plates were chipped around the edges and the crab cakes were extremely salty. The apple salad was basically mixed greens, shredded green apples and honey mustard dressing which resulted in an overly sweet salad instead of a sweet and tangy mix. The so called "spicy" fries that I ordered with my sandwich were overly salty and had no spiciness to it at all. The chicken sandwich was just alright and the fish my mom had was bland and tasteless. I wouldn't come back to eat here even if someone paid me. read more

We when here the other day to meet some friends that swear by this place. I was skeptical about going once I read all these negative reviews and by the end of the meal I had wished I had suggested a different place. The place is crowded and small and could be cute if the got tables and chairs that fit in the restaurant, also I found the place to be loud with the music and other tables talking and found it had to hear the people at my table. We ordered a round of waters, which took about 15 mins to come, then I asked for their famous apple salad asap which came at a good speed and then the rest of the meal when down hill from there. Then it took one hour for our food to come out, and then when it did it was not even hot. I ordered the lobster pancake and there was about one crawfish tails worth of lobster in the cold mashed up potato pancake, the fish on top of the pancake was blackened and lacking favor. The roasted veggies on the side were either burnt or had too much tasteless blackened spice on it. Then we had to ask for the check twice, our friends picked up the bill but I think the price of the salad was over $10 and the lobster pancake around $17. By the end of the meal our friends were questioning about coming back to this place again. I will not go here again. read more

The food can certainly be good here. I particularly love the whiting, plantains, and mac and cheese. They also have a lemonade drink (strawberry, I think) that I've gotten every time I went. The wait can sometimes be a bit long depending on the day. Unfortunately, I haven't been back for a while. The last time I went, there was an insect floating in my drink, which completely turned me off. The restaurant now appears to be closed for renovation. Hopefully, if they reopen, that'll no longer be a problem. read more

I went to this place for the 4th as my friends and I really enjoy the atmosphere and there food. But on August 7th at exactly 10:30 I went with one my friends as we live in the neighborhood to grab a drink there. Now bare in mind there kitchen closes around 11 from my previous experience. We went in we got seated by one of the bartenders, but we were specific that we only here to drink, but we could not sit at the bar as the bar was full, like what must I stand where there is no place to stand as the place is small. Back to us being seated at one of the high tops right by the door, one of the staff members like a server came to us and told us to get up as we are not allowed to sit because the height tops are for people who are eating. Now to put this into perspective the floor is empty there is only 4 tables being used for those who are eating. But the bar is full. How do you chase to paying customers, you tell me to get off seating area with an attitude then I'm told to stand by the door, like I'm a dog interesting. Then I ask to speak to a manager funny enough 3 servers come and lie to my face telling me a manager is not here, so what do I do, I called the restaurant to ask to speak to a manager within less then 5 mins she walks in... so I hanged up the phone, the server then comes to me to tell me I can now go sit ant the high top table by the kitchen after you told me to get off and stand by the door like a dog, like really... so I speak to the manager she does not give a hoots. Firstly I have worked at restaurants and no1 ever chases a customer if the restaurant is empty and the kitchen is about to close. The staff had a stank attitude and did not care. Very unprofessional which I believe each one needs to go back to take a course on hospitality. But what kills me is while I'm talking to the manager my white friend is standing near me she goes let's move to the back I don't want a customer hearing us, but thru out our talk everyone at the bar heard and saw how I was treated how does that make sense? Came here yesterday and really enjoyed the service. The food was great, and the drinks were strong. The ambiance was great. Sometimes it took little too long to get the waiter and waitresses attention, but when we did get there attention all requests were handled perfectly. Terrible slow service. Was seated right away. I went there with two other people for brunch on a Sunday. Took our drink orders and the waitress never came back to the floor. It was busy there but it's a small place n the waitress was no where on the floor. No other waitress came over to the table noticing we was seating there with empty tables. After twenty minutes of being ignored I flagged down a waiter. I would have left n not paid for drinks but the people I came with wanted to eat. After an hour from the time we sat down we finally got our food. It wasn't worth the wait. Basic food it wasn't bad but it wasn't good. I got fish n grits and my friends ordered chicken n waffles. The waiter that serviced us was on point n was trying his best to give great service after the girl disappeared, his name was Roshun and the other staff that helped him. Eventually the original waitress came back to the floor I didn't get her name but she looked like solange the singer. She never came to the table to apologize or even looked our way again, she did look down at our table to see if we had food and we didn't and she continued to pretend like we wasn't there. She continued to walk around the restaurant greeting the other customers. And when we was ready to pay the bill she awkwardly came to the table to get it but the other waitress picked it up first. That girl sucked I don't know her reason for leaving us hanging but I hope it was an emergency n not BS. This was back in November. A Tip to waiters n waitress if u see n empty table n customers seating there even if it's not your table ask the customer are you being serviced. Came here for happy hour earlier today. Took us about 15 minutes to track down a waitress to place our order. Average fries, plantains in turkey bacon and better jerk wings came 15 minutes later - but no drinks. Including a draft beer that should have taken 2 minutes. 20 minutes later we finally got some watered down excuses for a margarita & a martini. The worst part was that we watched two other tables that arrived after us get their drinks first. No apologies from the waitress who clearly forgot to put our order in. We just left and headed to Deniz across the street for round 2. Much better drinks, worth full price after that debacle. I will never go back. Two stars only because of the jerk wings. read more

The best happy hour in town! $4 margaritas and other cocktails! Need I say more? Well, I will. The food is also outstanding. The salmon burger and grilled salmon in particular. And their spicy fries are so good I've had dreams about them. My sister had the curry mussels and couldn't stop raving about them. Add in lovely waitstaff, a chilled vibe, and the dopest old school reggae and you've got a recipe for a restaurant that will quickly become one of your faves. I can't say enough about Brooklyn Moon. I started going here a couple of years ago. Generally the food was ok but the service was getting worse each time. I took a break and went back after almost a year of a hiatus! My experience in the past should have prepared me for the HORRIBLE service I received there this past Saturday nite. Got there and the restaurant was only about 25% occupied, initially a friendly waitress came over right away and took our orders. Then we had to wait 15 minutes for our drink orders to come (my first indication that I should have gotten the hell up outta there) mind you the 25% occupancy that were there already had their food and only needed their checks. So can someone tell me what the hell took them so long? Generally their drinks are spot on, Sat nite it wasn't all that. At this point the restaurant started to get full but I figured we're good cause we have already put in our orders. A half an hour later the other waitress (with a nasty attitude and a chip on her shoulder) came and told us some of the items that we ordered were no longer available. Silly us should have left at the this point if not for her attitude perhaps for the delay in relaying this information to us...but we figured the wait couldn't be too much longer and we was hongry! Boy were we wrong! The straw that broke the camel's back was when we saw that people who came on average 10-20 minutes after us were gettin their orders (mind you the same things that we ordered). At this point hungry are not we decided to leave. Will someone explain to me the sense in the waitress-with-the-attitude bringing us a bill with all the items that we had ordered even through after an hour all we had were our drinks! She came over and said it shouldn't be too much longer! Are you freaking kidding me not only are you asking me 2 wait longer, the bill you brought me was wrong..Who hired this chick? What irked me is after we told her how unhappy we were with the service, in the most insincere voice she says that I hope y'all will come back. Why would we? This place has soooo much potential, the location, the prices, the type of food and an adorable kid waiter who is super attentive. But please screen the waitress and let them know that they are in the customer service business and get food to your patrons in a timely fashion! I live down the block from BK moon, I'm not a reqular but have been there a few times. Love the ambiance of the place. I just went there last Sat for a pre mother's day dinner knowing every where would be packed on Sun. My BF and I sat near the door due to it was pretty crowded and it was a beautiful night so seating was fine. We order drinks, then our entree's. Drinks came right away and are resonably priced compared to some spots. We look around and notice everyone just has drinks on their table and no one is actually eating. After about 30mins or so we ask what is going on due to know one has any food on their table as if everyone ordered at the same time. The waitress apologizes and says they are a little backed up by the way she was really nice and gracious. The couple that came in right after us finished their drinks and got pissed and left due to the too long wait on the food. After almost an hour's wait our food finally arrives and I must say it was worth it. I had the crabby patty which was a nice sized crab cake on top of mash potatoes and it also came with the apple salad on the plate. My dish was delicious!! My BF had the talapia with plantains, his was also good but he preffered my dish after tasting and attempted to eat all of mines lol. If you are starving then this is not the place for you, but if you can hold out for the wait and have the drinks with some great convo it is well worth it. read more

Brooklyn Moon has been a restaurant staple on my roster for years now. They recently did some reservations and althtough I don't understand the new decor for the life of me, it definitely looks a lot better. Service has greatly improved over the years and the wait staff is always friendly and attentive, although due to being short-staffed at times, you may have to wait. Now comes the best part - the food! The food is tasty, portion size is generous and the prices are reasonable - what more can you ask for? Drinks are great and the ambiance is low-key. Definitely worth a try as they have not disappointed me yet! read more

Buyer Beware! Came here with a friend on a Saturday for brunch and was immediately taken back by the fact that absolutely no one was seated in the restaurant. Meanwhile, the restaurant to the left and to the right were overflowing with people. My friend and I decided to stay and give the restaurant a try since it was recommended by a friend. We were (for the second time now) very surprised by the one page brunch menu which left ALOT to be desired. I ordered the whiting with waffle and a side of mac and cheese. My friend ordered the french toast entree with a side of cheese grits. The food was HORRIBLE. The mac and cheese was definitely box macaroni and cheese-not even homemade and the grits.....we are still trying to figure out what the heck was that. The food had no taste and just seemed like a very sloppy put together meal. We were completely unfulfilled. As a matter of fact, when I went home after just eating brunch, I ate again. If you are looking for outstanding food-don't bother with this place. Oh, and they have the nerve to put an automatic gratuity on each bill (regardless of the number of guests in your party-in our case it was only 2 of us) of 18%. I don't mind paying any amount of gratuity, but the food better be damn good! I wouldn't even rate this place one star. read more

This place has some solid and reasonably priced food. I had the spicy shrimp with apple salad and candied yams, which could easily pass for dessert. It wasn't exceptional, but good enough for me to maybe go back. There was lots of interesting contemporary art on the walls, and a really nice laid back vibe. My only gripe would be the drinks. I was in the mood for something sweet and fruity, but my drink honestly tasted like Hi-C. Way too syrupy. Otherwise, a nice taste of home for a southerner in Brooklyn. read more

This was my first time here and arrived just before happy hour was over. The jerk wings were really good along with the spicy fries. We waited 36 minutes (I timed it)for another order of jerk wings with Mac and cheese. When the order came out the wings were burnt so the first order was better. The servers were not very attentive as my first drink glass sat on the table on the edge until we left. I'm always open to giving another chance but my first impression wasn't a good one. The atmosphere is really nice. Its a small and cozy spot that just feels fun and live. This was my first time there for Sunday Brunch. My friend and I both ordered the fish with grits. Not good at all. for the price, we received 3 strips of whiting (amounts to one and a half whiting), which was fried in burnt oil and flavorless. Well it tasted like burnt oil. When my order first came out, the fish was very dark, sitting on a bed of greens. I immediately knew it was burnt, but thought maybe it was fried in wheat. nah, it was burnt. Sent it back, and a slightly lighter order came out. Whiting, which is a very cheap fish, with no nutritional value is usually very light fish, when cooked right, can be good. But not my or my friends order. The grits had more cheese that hominy and absolutely NO SALT. I think serving someone salt-less grits should be against the law or at least taboo. It is very difficult to add flavor to grits after the fact. The mimosas were really good. This is a place to visit, just do not order the fish, grits or anything fried as the grease was working overtime. read more
