The fish cakes were on the house do to the long wait, which we appreciated. While there was no drink menu, The bartender/server was very accommodating mixing up different flavor margaritas. They have multiple protein options for their Mac n cheese, but I definitely recommend the oxtail Mac or just the oxtail in general. Sweet N Savory in Brooklyn is such a gem! The location is super convenient, only a 3 minute walk from the A train which I really appreciated. I went for their Sip & Sear experience and had the BEST time. They start you off with two shots, then you get to make your own cocktail with the bartender guiding you. It was fun, interactive, and honestly such a great value for the price. The drinks were delicious, and the vibe was very cute. For food, I had the skirt steak with Brussels sprouts and everything was flavorful and perfectly cooked. My friends tried the shrimp and chicken options, which were also really good. They even provide salsas to pair with the dishes which was a nice touch. We ended the night with dessert, with chocolate, carrot, and strawberry cake options, which made the whole experience feel complete. What had been a hard day had a quick turn around all things to my experience here. The ambiance is chefs kiss. It's floral and the perfect rest spot not just for a girls night out, but for a great vibe in general. The DJ plays an amazing mix of old and modern music. Get the Sip and Sear. The experience to make your own drink gives this place a 10/10 on its own. Especially since you get to experience and learn while you do so. You're not just throwing things together. Sweet and Savory: Where Dreams (and Patience) Go to Die If you're looking for a brunch spot where you can starve slowly and reflect deeply on all your life choices, Sweet and Savory is your Mecca. On 4/27/25, my friend and I -- two loyal brunch warriors dedicated to supporting local businesses -- made a reservation here after she spotted it on a leisurely walk. Hopeful. Innocent. Clueless. We arrive to a half-empty restaurant (table of 7 here, 3 ladies brunching there) and are greeted by a server who cheerfully tells us, "Sit anywhere, I'll be right with you!" Spoiler alert: she would, in fact, NOT be right with us. Or even vaguely near us. Or even acknowledge that we existed on the same planet. We sat. And sat. And sat some more. The ladies next to us sipped cocktails and cackled while we swallowed our own spit, waiting for a single molecule of water. One. Full. Hour. At this point, the neighboring table even took pity on us and promised to flag the server down if they could make eye contact first -- like some twisted, Hunger Games-style brunch survival pact. Finally, after 60 minutes of being treated like furniture, the server sashays by, giggling with her VIPs, and my friend literally has to tell me to "fix my face" because I was pretty livid and had no poker face to display. When she finally remembered we were there, her actual words were: "Oh, I forgot about y'all." Like she misplaced a pen. Now, I get it -- she was the only server. But in a restaurant with literally 12 people total (including us), this was less a staffing issue and more a "could not possibly care less" issue. We ask for water and drinks. 30 minutes later, we receive... water. Only slightly faster than glacial melt. We order food. I naively ask for oxtail and mac, but am warned it's a "small dish" -- as in "you'll need a magnifying glass to see it" small. Wings? "Small too." Is this a tapas bar? No? Then why are you serving three wings like it's an exhibit at the Louvre? Fine, I order a burger because -- surely -- that's easy, right? Right?! Wrong. Another 30 minutes. No food. The server (who at this point I can only assume had entered a witness protection program) reappears to deliver shots to the VIP table... and once again needs to be reminded we exist. She breezes by and says, "It'll be another 10-15 minutes. What y'all wanna do?" WHAT WE WANNA DO?! Sis, we wanna eat the brunch we reserved two hours ago without contemplating the meaninglessness of existence. At this point, an apology or a comped drink would have gone a long way. Instead, she asked us what we wanted. So we ask for another mocktail (because at this point we were being held hostage and needed hydration). She brings the wrong drink. Then fixes it. Bare minimum unlocked. Our food finally arrives around 6 PM (we sat down at 3:30 PM). It was... edible. Nothing impressive. The kind of meal you eat because you're starving, not because it's good. As we try to leave, defeated and hangry, we receive the fastest service of the day: THE CHECK. A check that included a 20% service charge slapped on like a final insult. Now look -- I'm a good tipper. A generous tipper, even. But to be forced to pay 20% for a "service" that was more like a slow-motion gaslighting experiment? Nah. I wanted dessert but realized it would probably take them another 90 minutes to plate three cookies. And honestly, by that point, my hopes were circling the drain. We got up. The server said nothing. I smiled faintly, waved goodbye to the worst service of my life, and left. Moral of the story: At Sweet and Savory, you're not dining -- you're playing Customer Service Roulette. Maybe you'll get the good experience like the VIP table next to us. Or maybe you'll sit in the corner like a forgotten houseplant while everyone pretends not to see you. The ambiance is beautiful for a date night, my friends and I came out for a girls night out and we were greeted by Joey our server who was very transparent with the recommendations. 2 of my girlfriends ordered the margaritas which did not disappoint and myself and bestie ordered the rum punch with Ray and his nephew lol. I recommend the peach bourbon wings over the sorrel once, the Brussels sprouts were really good too, the cooked oysters were okay alittle fresh but the lemon helped. The asparagus were good too. A friend recommended this restaurant for a Birthday dinner. I ordered the Bourbon Stewed chicken. i am really sorry i did not take a picture of the disaster i saw on my plate. The stewed chicken was a pile of boneless chicken SCRAP. Clearly, they did not care about the presentation of the meal either. The taste on a scale of 1 -10 was a 3, the vegetable lo main was so so. I found this restaurant on TikTok and thought the food was perfect so despite some unfavorable reviews I made reservations for Valentine's Day for myself and my husband. Our reservation was for 8:45 we walked in and there was no one to greet us until about 2 mins of standing by the door. A lady then came and said we could sit wherever we wanted which was right in front of the door so I asked if there were any other seats, one opened up because a couple was leaving. She was nice cleaned the table off and gave us menus after almost 2 hrs of waiting watching the main waitress (lady with glasses) walk past us multiple times ignoring us I said hey we haven't been served yet no water nothing. She replies I'm sorry it's pretty busy theres still some people who were here before you that we haven't served yet.... From my observation I then questioned Why was there one server and why was that one server also the bartender, it also looked like it was one cook as well. We watched other couples come in and sit and then quickly leave. Here's my issue I totally understand that it was a busy night but it was valentines day why not honor your reservations and not take walk ins knowing you couldn't fulfill the needs of the customers you already had. Every couple there was pissed we also watched her not even bring drinks or forget parts of peoples orders. Customer service goes a long way reassuring us would have been nice ignoring the very people willing to come spend their hard earned money at a black owned business was hurtful because we really wanted to support. After sitting and waiting we ended up calling around to other restaurants that were open late to hopefully get a glass of water and good food in which we did. Our night was almost ruined but thankfully it wasn't. It was also disappointing that the only acknowledgment we received was when we got up and left and it was a "sorry" unacceptable! My boyfriend took me to Sweet & Savory for a Valentine's Day dinner. Our reservation was for 8pm we arrived at 7:55. We were ignored for the first two minutes and my boyfriend had to get a waitress attention. They finally came over and seated us. We then proceeded to wait over 10 minutes for a waitress to come over when she finally came over she went over the menu and again ignored us for another 10 minutes. We finally were able to order, and we made sure to order everything at once. The ambiance and music was nice however it was a distraction for how long of a wait it was for food. By 8:50 we still had no food and not even water! My boyfriend was so disappointed and we told them we were leaving. The waitress didn't once to try and accommodate us but said "oh yeah sorry". It's really sad because this is a beautiful restaurant but their service is terrible. We were ignored throughout the night and weren't even given a sincere apology.
