We have been going to the boulevard diner since they have opened and I have to say that some things have just lost their luster . You can always count on a decent meal and big portions but the quality and care may not always be there. It's been about a year since we have been to the diner but we were in the area so we decided to have an early dinner . I had ordered the grape leaves for an app ( these are always spot on !) And a crab fluff ( that never came and the waitress said I didn't order it even though I did and she had even asked my sides ... ) my husband loves their sour beef and dumplings and my dad got their Turkey club which is always very good and my daughter got the turkey kids meal which was absolutely swimming in gravy and the stuffing was an icky paste like mass. My husband and I also had a cup of the Maryland crab soup which is always great. After our meals we got some desserts to go , I normally LOVE their cheesecake however the Oreo cheesecake wasn't the dense creamy dream that I remember, this was just some no bake cheesecake type nonsense. The lemon cake looked decent and the strawberry cheesecake was that same fluffy no bake cheesecake type stuff . I just don't know what happened here . It's a major let down when you get so excited about a meal and dessert that you have always loved at a place that was so reliable before. Not your average diner... The Blvd Diner is a Dundalk landmark and rightly so. The people and prices are great. While I wouldn't call it fine dining I would call it honest dining. The food is exactly what you would expect from a diner hot, good and soothing to the soul. The portions will either stuff you or, make you ask for a take home box. If your up for a challenge meal I dare you to finish the big ass sandwich... One of my favorite spots for breakfast. They have the best creamed chipped beef ever! The service is usually wonderful. I also love the eggs benedict. My husband and I have had lunch here on several occasions as we are local to the area and the lunch menu is just as good. The restaurant itself is always clean, its well maintained. Service is quick and friendly. The desserts are fresh. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone for a good meal. My Experience was not good for the first time I was here. Firstly they were Trump supporters and then our food was disgusting, no seasoning what so ever!!!!! I heard that they were known for their Sour Beef & Dumplings and since I had never eaten this dish before, and I was there for lunch, I decided to order the "small" portion. Wow! It was a very generous amount of fork tender beef roast accompanied by delicious dumplings -- I wish there had been a couple more, they were so good, but in this stew-like presentation I'm sure they just ladle it up and you get what you get -- surrounded by a rich "gravy." Went here as I saw it on Diners drive ins and dives and it was a must. Well let me tell u it was average and by the time I got to hotel ( flying home in am) I was so sick! I was so afraid I wouldn't be able to board my plane but I was ok for am. Although I am a Floridian, whenever I come to Baltimore, my husband always stops at the Boulevard Diner for crab cakes. They are packed with jumbo lump crab meat and are so tasty we savor every bite. Not only do we order the broiled crabcakes, which have very little filler, but also the smaller crab balls for appetizers. Shrimp salad is quite unique, since they use real gulf shrimp rather than farm raised. It is simple, yet spectacular especially when served with the tangy tomato bisque. I'm rather OCD with cleanliness, but Boulevard exceeds my expectations. It's always clean and they constantly disinfect the tables. Everyone wears masks and the bus boy even wore gloves. Have been going here for years, so what happened to me on a recent visit was disappointing. Ordered the tilapia stuffed with crabmeat only to discover the bottom half of my fish had not been cooked. My server and the manager were horrified, offered me another dish (I declined) and removed the meal from my bill. My advise: stick with the breakfast items...you can't go wrong there. read more

According to Diners, Drive Ins and Dives, this is a greek restaurant. There are a few greek dishes on the menu, but not many. Take note that the menu offers a Mediterranean section that is all italian food. Saturday evening around 7 or so, after the dinner rush but before the "going out to drink" crowd. The hostess showed us to an unset table, though there were several tables in the same section already with silverware and place mats. The waitress was very young and very energetic. I ordered the New England Cod meal. The menu said it came with a soup or salad, entree, potato, vegetable and a dessert (chocolate pudding was one of the three options.) While ordering, I asked for the salad, cod, mashed potatoes, a vegetable and the chocolate pudding. The waitress told me that I would have to wait to order the dessert. The salad arrived and it was an overflowing small plate of iceberg lettuce, a few black olives, 3 very thick slices of cucumber, 4 unripe cherry tomatoes and a shaved slice of red onion. It also arrived before the silverware, so I had to wait for the waitress as she went for the place settings. When the food arrived, it was a very bland, waterlogged piece of cod. It had no flavor even after salt and lemon were added. The mashed potatoes were congealed and cold. I don't even remember what the vegetable was... My dinner companion ordered the chicken fingers and the Philly Steak Fries. The chicken tenders were room temperature. The fries were a large plate of golden brown fries, covered in minced steak that was dry on top and over cooked. The cheese was thin and sparse. When we finally gave up on the food, the waitress rushed over with the check. I asked about the dessert menu and mentioned that I still wanted the chocolate pudding that was supposed to come with my meal. She informed me that they were out of chocolate pudding but could get banana pudding or jello in it's place. I said "the menu clearly says chocolate pudding" and her response was simply "we're out", she layed down the check and walked away. We never did get a dessert menu so we got up and left. Going in, as we walked up the ramp, I remember thinking that I couldn't remember why we hadn't been to the Boulevard Diner in several years... as we were leaving, walking down the ramp, I said "Now I remember why we don't eat here." read more

Found this place like most people. Caught it on DDD. It is a very nice diner, with a very extensive menu. Be prepared - they serve ALOT of food. You definitely get your monies worth at this place. The food is typical diner fair, with slight Greek slant. I had the grape leaves as a starter (Highly recommended), and the meat loaf stack for dinner. I would give the place 3.5 stars for the place itself and the food in general. I would give 4.5 stars for the grape leaves alone! Their bakery is very nice, but the selection is spotty at best. I've been going to this diner for years. I have to say that recently it has changed and not for the better. The food has always been good here. My favorite has always been the open face turkey sandwich. Last two times I ordered it, it was cold. I have noticed that the crab soup seems to have changed too. It seems watery and has huge chunks of potatoes in it that are sometimes quite hard. The last time I ordered the meatloaf tower it was cold too. The crab fluffs are delicious. They have a huge selection of dishes. Many are very good but lately I keep getting cold dishes. read more

Love the Boulevard Diner. I eat here everytime I go to Baltimore. Monday through Thursday breakfast is 1/2 off, which is a super great deal. The food is standard diner food, but, it's served with all the charm that the Charm City can offer. Great for families and big groups. My husband decided to surprise me so he brought me and our 2 little ones here yesterday. I was totally excited because I'm a huge fan of "Drive-Ins, Diners, Dives" on the Food Network show. I would like to think that Guy Fieri wouldn't steer us wrong...wrong, he would. This place was ok. I ordered the half order of the Sour Beef and Dumplings because it was featured on the show. I HATED it... I mean, really disliked it. The big chunks of meat was hard and cold in the center and smothered in a dark brown gravy which is like a sour ordinary brown gravy. The dumpling were bland and desperately needed seasoning. I had to send that back and I am not a fan of doing so. If I wasn't so damn hungry, I would've ignore it. I ordered the chicken fried steak because I was flustered and didn't know what to replace it with. That was good, coating was light and perfectly seasoned. The gravy was creamy...good. The "scrambled" eggs like a scrambled omelet and tasted like a boat load of butter and faintly like lobster(weird I know but could be a good thing). Their homefries were more like a cross between mashed potatoes and fried potatoes. My 2 yr old pancake kids meal was cute and adorned with choc chips. We had the famous grape leaves as an appetizer... didn't love it but didn't hate it. I could only have one and left the rest to my husband. The meat/rice mixture was grainy...dry...the grape leaf itself and a cool texture of being chewy and slightly burnt and bitter. The sauce was lemony and awesome but only if the ground meat was moist... it would've been a home run with that. The best thing we had.. my husband Jumbo lump crab eggs benedict. Huge pieces of some of the freshest lump crab meat I've ever had. They give you a lot of it for the price, the hollandaise is not heavy...everything was perfect. Although i really liked it... we won't be driving all the way here just for it. Fine for standard diner food, but I came here to try the famous sour beef and dumplings and boy oh boy was I disappointed. Huge bowl of overly sweet and unpleasantly sour soup with a few chunks of beef thrown in. Could taste the sugar. Unnecessarily large portion, I hate that feeling that food is being wasted (especially when it doesn't taste good enough to eat as leftovers). I'll probably go back for a cheap breakfast at some point, but not sure I'll be trying many more entrees, unfortunately. read more
