Food and service is awesome here. Ambiance is more like when you're here you are family. But the food does not disappoint. I've been working in the canton area for 3 years now and even though I tried food from over places, no one can compete with the timing and the deliciousness of the food. Our office ordered their rib eye cheesesteaks for the first time and can honestly say we were not dissapointed. The meat was tender and very tasty. Not like other sub shops that use minute steaks and try to pass them off as Rib eye. The sub rolls were soft and they were packed with meat, muchrooms and fried onions as requested. We will definately order from them again. I can't believe I have worked in this area for 30 years and didn't know about John's carry out. I eaten here a few times because I was hungry and this place is two blocks away from where I live. I've only lived in Canton a short while so I don't know whats new and whats long timer here. However, this place looks like its been there for a long while. The menu is old school Baltimore diner with a selection of sandwiches, subs, and seafood. I've tried the crabcake sub, steak sub, and gyro. I'd say the gyro was the most memorable, tasty but not dynamically outstanding. Prices are mehhh and service about the same. Not a stellar place with anything that really stands out but if you are hungry, they can make something to get you by. read more

I would not recomend the dump. To be honest eating from a dump would be better. The food tasted like trash and the coffee was terrable. I had a bagle with the thinest layer of cream cheese. I ate here once about a year back when my fiance lived in the neighborhood, and even if I lived next door to this place and got a 95% discount, I'd never eat here again. John's Carry Out had the absolute WORST pizza I've ever had in my entire life, and considering what I've had in my day, this is an impressive title to take home. Dough/crust: flavorless. Sauce: flavorless....you could replicate their pizza sauce by buying a jar from the supermarket and watering it down heavily. Cheese: tasted cheap, oily, and fake. But here's the worst part....on this particular occasion, we ordered tomatoes and green peppers on the pizza. The tomatoes were slimy and had no flavor, but the green peppers were CANNED. I had no idea that green peppers came canned at all before eating at this place, but they do, and they are truly disgusting. We each ate about a slice and a half each and then threw the rest away. Again, hands down, the worst pizza I've ever had. Based on this, there is no way in hell I'd ever order anything else from this place. I think what's going on here is that they're taking advantage of the fact that they're right on the square in Canton, and they can always count on the drunken hordes of people in their mid-to-late 20s that still drink and act like they're college seniors. That being the case, they don't have to worry about making good food, they'll still cash in on the drunk idiots wandering around that neighborhood on any given night. Absolutely disgusting food. I'm conflicted on how many stars to put, as John's delivers what you'd expect an older, diner-style, carryout place to deliver. Your expectations need to be in line with that when going here. Hours are great for when nothing else is open and location is very convenient to all the action in Canton. Breakfast is one of my favorites there and pricing is really fair at ~$4 for a toasted bagel with bacon, egg, and cheese, and about the same cost for french toast. Both are consistent go-to items for me! The dining atmosphere, on the other hand, leaves a lot to be desired. It's incredibly dated, plain, and just... drab. We stop in late night after the bars sometimes to sit in, and service is quick. If you deviate at all from the menu, don't expect it to actually happen (asking for a certain kind of bread or different kind of cheese, etc), but if you stick with the menu you'll get what you order. The cheesesteak was good, the fries were crispy, the grilled cheese was grilled nicely, and the gravy on the side was appreciated by my friend. We will continue to go here for hungover breakfast and late night drunken snacks! Oh, they also serve your basic beer (Bud Lt, Miller Lt, etc). read more

My work carryout I usually get steak on pita it's the best with French fries and they put ketchup on fries which makes me happy. My other favorite thing here is birch beer. I usually come here because I can walk around the corner from my job. My coworker is the real fan she loves this place brags about the coffee says it's the best along with the grilled cheese and crab cake. John's friendly family is ready at the griddle to greet you with a smile and an omelette, a Reuben sandwich, you name it. One menu item I must stress is the milkshakes, which are proudly advertised in neon lighting in the storefront window. There is something to be said for these shakes. I don't know what it is about the milkshakes, but there's something magical about them. When I ordered half of a chicken cheesesteak, I wasn't expecting a huge sandwich. I didn't have a ruler, but I think their "half" subs are close to a footlong. That being said, there is a LOT of bread. The flavor was fine, but the chicken was sort of dry. Ate it with provolone cheese, tomatoes, and hots - just the way I like it! If you don't keep your eye out, you might miss seeing this place. They are located in the corner of Canton Square and aren't very flashy. It has an old time feeling ambiance inside. The amazing thing about John's Carryout is that you can call in your order and it's ready in about 5 minutes. (Not to confuse this place with Jimmy John's, whose quality in subs is nowhere close to John's Carryout). Their chicken cheesesteak is amazing! You can get it loaded up however your heart desires. I've had food from John's a lot, since I've lived in the neighborhood my whole life. The staff is friendly and helpful. It's a good place to sit alone and eat or go to on a date or with friends, very comfortable atmosphere. Their pizza is great. The mini pizzas are good for a quick snack, they're big enough to hold you over during lunch, and are small enough for a kid. Their mozzarella sticks and French fries with gravy are always satisfying! The breakfast platters they serve are great and filling, you can pick multiple options of what you want in your platter.
