This place is janky and ratty, located across the street from several strip clubs and sex shops in a gross area of Baltimore. I had their chicken tenders and, along with the food being utterly underwhelming in terms of taste, whatever poor quality grease and bad chicken they use left me obliterating my bathroom for the next 8 hours through the sunrise. I ordered a pepperoni pizza from here, firstly it was sitting out on a rack where flies could easily come in and get to it. Once I seen that I was kind of skeptical but I processed to pay, when I got the pizza it looked pretty pleasant but it had an horrible taste the cheese was sliding off of the pizza, heavy grease and the crust was hard as a rock. Conveniently located by all the gentleman's clubs, at that (hence the wildness going on so far)! Waited in a short line and an old fella that looked like he'd been working there since they opened. Customer (who I assumed was a local) in front of me ordered a Philly so I felt it was natural to do the same. No lettuce no tomato. Grilled onions, mayo, extra cheese! It's been a while since I've ordered from Crazy Johns on Baltimore and after what I experienced I see why. I ordered a waffle platter with bacon and added eggs to it. What I didn't know was it come with a small coffee or tea. I was never asked what kind tea I wanted because there was maybe 9 different flavored tea bags to choose from. When my order was ready, I asked for the lemon ginger tea and was told by Linda in a VERY nasty tone that she already made me tea. I asked her with what tea bag she said in a very aggressive tone with a tea bag. I then told her that's not what I wanted . She said in a very NASTY tone "well I already made it" I then said well I don't drink that. She then replied "well if u don't take it I will have to throw it away. I told her that's fine and I would like the lemon ginger tea in its place. She then snatched the tea my the counter and proceeded to make me the tea I requested and then slammed it on the counter. That woman is very nasty and has very poor customer service. I WILL NOT EVER be stepping foot back in that carryout. I only gave it 2 stars because the waffle platter was on point. read more

With a name like Crazy John's and a location in essentially the "red light district" of Baltimore, you might have second thoughts about going into such an establishment. A frequented lunch spot, I opted to make my first visit with a coworker who frequented Crazy John's. Walking in, expect a bit of a madhouse. There's a lot of activity on the right as hot and cold sammiches and gyros are being prepared. All sorts and I hear they are yummy. Going a little further down on the left, I found the specials for the day, prepared fresh. Fried chicken is a mainstay. Today was lasagna and stuffed tilapia. My coworker got the lasagna and the portion was nearly half the food tray! His two veggie sides potato salad and steam broccoli. I had to try the stuffed tilapia and went with the same sides. They also throw a slice of buttered bread. My fish was $13 but most meals are under $10. We got in and out quickly and frankly I took more time reading over the menu and checking out their selections. If one knows what they want going in, you'll be in and out in a few minutes. A true "hole in the wall" worth stopping in for a "home cooked" meal. read more

I had a horrible experience here. I visited yesterday 6/1/24 and the experience was still bothering me so I knew I had to make a review. The staff must have changed because a few years ago, it wasn't like this. Cashier (darker skin Indian man: sorry if ethnicity is wrong) makes you feel stupid instead of explaining what the sub is if you have the wrong idea. Kept saying I ordered a cheeseburger instead of explaining its burger patties on sub roll and then looked at me like I was legitimately stupid. My friend and I get done ordering and she goes to the White Passing Latino Male (WPLM-he will come up again) with bumps all over his face to ask for the bathroom key. WPLM asks if she ordered and she said yes. Instead of him asking to see the ticket (which I have in my hand) he tells her to go to the cashier. Cashier then tells her to go back to WPLM. So she goes back to him and he then has the nerve to tell her that she has to order. So she yells to me to show him the ticket. I then later find out that WPLM told her there's no reason to get loud and to calm down before he finally handed over the key...as if he was trying to make it seem like she was yelling at him. Furthermore, he was the one causing the issue in the first place. Anyways, she goes to the bathroom and that's when I start feeling/seeing eyes on me. WPLM keeps looking at me, both cooks wearing the Wild Ones snapbacks keep looking at me in between tasks, and the cashier kept looking at me. I'm so grateful that we can see them making the food otherwise I would've asked for a refund and left without the food. Then WPLM walks over to the cashier and stays there for about a minute or two. He yells, very loudly, One Ticket. Then he starts going back to his area at the end of the counter and says something here he has to say the phrase one ticket. Again One Ticket is very loud. All of a sudden, security in the building sprints into action and starts to fast ,but not too fast, walk towards the bathroom. At that same time my friend came from the bathroom so the security guard had to save face and went to stand near where the lottery portion is. My friend wanted to eat there so against my better judgment we sat and ate our food. It was so hot back there that you don't have to worry about sitting more than the 15-30 min time limit. The food was good, not as great as it used to be. I have never felt more uncomfortable as a black woman in an establishment more than I did here and I currently live in an area where I'm frequently the only or one of few black people. I understand that some stuff happens in Baltimore, especially near the strip clubs at times. But that's the place you chose and you shouldn't make that every persons problem that comes in. The burger itself is great. No frills, nothing fancy, just a good, simple burger. They also have a cheeseburger sub if you're VERY hungry. Is it in a not-so-savoury part of town? Sure. Are you going to encounter any trouble there? Probably not. The wait staff are no nonsense and everyone keeps to themselves. Authentic, freshly sliced from the spindle and then quickly grilled served with lettuce, tomato, onion and lots of tsizaki sauce on pita. Cheesesteaks seem popular as well. It's on W. Baltimore Street in the middle of The Block so the clientele is a little of everything - but rarely dull and the later the busier it seems. Good prices, pretty quick service and almost everyone takes their's to go. If you're nearby and you want a quick bite and don't need a lot of fancy - this place rocks. There's only one good reason why you would be passing by Crazy John's. CJ's is in the middle of Baltimore's famous "Block" where the nudie bars are. They are open late so you can go after the clubs close. Well I've been here a couple times, once very drunk and once not-so-drunk. Recently, I came here for lunch and order a delicious bacon cheesesteak. I've had their smoked sausage which is great. Check out the pictures of my sub. I stayed in the area for an event and this place was open at the time. Be wary tho it is surrounded by strip clubs, no lifes and homeless. Food was very good, but I felt a weird energy when I entered this restaurant. The owner told me to get the f out when I left his establishment when I haven't done anything wrong but simply order and leave with my food. Stay away and also when you order on grub hub, their device does not work so it won't be received on their end so don't bother. I will have to contact grub hub to get a refund read more

When I have worked Baltimore City depending on timing and how much time I have, I will eat lunch at Crazy John's. The Philly cheese steak is the best I've had in the DC/Baltimore area. So why only 3-stars for a 5-star sandwich? While the Philly cheese steak is excellent, the pizza is below average, and the hot dogs were good, but I felt nauseous afterward. The day I had the hot dogs were in June 2014, and I never took another chance on them. However, it may have been because I was in a hurry since I had more work to do, I ate fast, and while driving. Where they really fall short is the customer service. They are inconsistent. They are usually not very friendly, but they aren't too bad to deal with. It is just that they are disorganized and get orders wrong sometimes. In Fall 2015, I ate there, and they put the wrong cheese (American cheese is the default) on my sandwich when I specifically asked for provolone. Since I was in a hurry (since my parking meter was getting low), I picked off the cheese off my sandwich and asked them to put provolone on it. Instead they threw away the sandwich, and I yelled at them because I said I don't have much time. The cook said it will be one minute, which it was, but I was annoyed that they got it wrong in the first place. Because my meter was low, I had to eat it in the car, which I don't like doing especially with a potentially messy sandwich. Plain hot dogs I ate in June 2014 are fine, but a Philly cheese steak is risky to my car's interior. Thursday, March 17 was the first time I worked Baltimore City (since it is not my territory, but I was helping) since December. When in Rome, I decided to eat my favorite Philly cheese steak in the region. They got the order right, and it was enjoyable. However, I worked Baltimore City again on Monday, March 21, and they were busier and were disorganized, and I had a feeling that they might get the order wrong. I was right. When I went to my seat, I discovered American cheese, and I went up to complain. They remade the sandwich, and the cashier apologized. I went back to my car in the garage, and it was 2 hours 2 minutes (work in Baltimore City + lunch). I paid $15, but if they had not gotten my order wrong, it would have been $12. My company pays for my parking, but I think Crazy John's should pay the extra $3. I might mention that next time I'm there. However, it would have been worse with paying for 2 hour parking at a meter. I could have gotten a $50 (or whatever Baltimore City charges) ticket. This is one reason why it is important to get people's orders correct in the city. Lesson learned is go if you aren't in a hurry to get back to your parking meter or if you have a lot to do. read more

The customer service here is exceptional (the people behind the counter are as sweet as a daisy) and their service is fast-paced but they still offer great quality. The food is probably better than it has to be given the location smack in the middle of The Block but food shouldn't be your primary reason for going to Crazy John's. Go because the folks that run it are incredibly nice and the people watching is off the hook. Cops, strippers and bouncers from the clubs on The Block, and confused tourists looking for Bubba Gumps can all be found at Crazy John's. Not to mention the people that come in to buy lottery tickets from bulletproof plexiglass-enclosed booth and play the pseudo casino gaming machines in back. If you come here during the day and you have any regard for your body, you're an asshole. They really have good gyro's not like many other places grill the frozen gyro slices for you and wrap it in the pita bread, this one actually got the fresh on the gyro machine aka Döner Kebob machine, theirs is tasty and I had to order my second gyro after i was finished with the first one! Came into town pretty late and we were hungry. It was the only place open at 2 AM so we made our way over. Now this place isn't for everybody but it looks scarier than it is. The food was your typical late night/drunk food which is great because why else are you eating that late you know. Anyways, the menu had a wide selection of items. We had a cheesesteak, eggs, bacon and French toast. It was all good, I wouldn't say great though. It's very busy late at night but even given this it wasn't that long before we got our food.
