Love this place! Foods great and the idea is original ... maybe I need to get out more, anyways, I digress ... If you haven't been here, Boiling Point serves individual hot pots, added sides upon request, and a variety of drinks. Now I usually like to choose a few categories to grade on. For a restaurant, I chose service, food, and for kicks (since I really enjoyed this place) "Would it be cool to get to know a girl here?" Why I added this, well ... because guys always ponder on where to bring a girl at to go eat so fellas ... I hope this helps out.
Food - Again, the food is great. You get a few choices: Beef, Lamb, Kim Chi, House Special, Fish Ball Curry, and there is one more that just slips my mind. I've tried the beef, lamb, house special, and kim chi. All very good. The beef is very basic with assorted veggies and other good stuff. It's a very basic taste and nothing that you wouldn't expect from a beef hot pot. The portion is very adequate and is served with a side of rice or clear noodles. And for those of you who think lamb is the same ol' shit the beef is ... well you're wrong ... very wrong. The lamb is a very different taste. Oddly enough, you really don't get lamb at all, two slices if you're lucky. What it really is a bunch of pickled lettuce. Now I'm a fan of pickled lettuce but not to the extremity its given here. Pickled lettuce really changes the taste so be prepared. Kim chi is a bit spicy and unique. Taste great, go for it (that is all =P). The fish curry taste like a light curry taste with assortments ... Now I can go on and on and on but really it's all the same stuff. Assorted veggies, mixture of side meats, and great drinks. All you are really choosing between are soups but ... do yourself a favor and order the instant noodle with it. It is a great add on.
Service - The service is pretty good here (compared to every other asian restaurant). They are pretty prompt but a bit of a jerk. The only reason why I'm okay with this is because I expect it at asian restaurants. They don't really english so just point and order. Plus, they get big ups because the other Boiling Point in Monterey Park has horrible service.
Now for the "Would this be cool to get to know a girl here?" section ...
It starts off with the environment. There are all these little things that can really add to your game fellas. Those usually a wait here. It can be long but try to go when there is a short wait. This way, you two have no excuse but to talk to each other because you're both waiting for the same things. The lighting is dim, so if you don't know, girls are very insecure, especially when they think you're a good looking guy. That being said, the dim lighting allows the insecure woman to feel more comfortable to talk to you. Now back to what I was talking about earlier with food, it's original. Where else do you get an individual hot pot besides shabu shabu? The flame gives it an impressive look. The whole concept is exotic and you'll both have an exotic moment to share. Trust me, as dumb as that sounds ... it is. When people talk about hot pot, you'll bring it up just cause it's exotic. Now, on to another dumb thing ... the sauces! They aren't brought to you, YOU have to go get it! Meaning YOU have the opportunity to share that YOU can take care of someone else and is considerate. So that means YOU go get hers too! It shows a girl that you're considerate and woman eat that up. Lastly, the check ... use your head if you're trying to get laid ... thats all.
Now I'm no Austin Powers nor do I think this place is romantic, fancy, etc. Have you ever heard the notion of "For a first date, bring her to a place where you are well known and recognized. " It is outside influence that helps step up your game. I'm just being a homie and looking out (LOL). Anyways, I am simply providing a suggestion for those of you who want to try this restaurant. All and all, this is just a nice restaurant to enjoy some lunch or dinner for a very reasonable price. read more
