Been wanting to try this fairly new Szechuan restaurant in a Monrovia strip mall. Parking is easy, the place is generally pretty empty, and service is decent. On the phone, the woman didn't speak any English, but when we went, there were a couple of servers who spoke English pretty well. When we try a new place, we never want to order a ton of food in case it's bad. Luckily, that was not the case this time. We got the pork potstickers. The potstickers are decent, but something in their soy sauce or chili oil is oddly sweet and off putting. Not having a decent dipping sauce is certainly going to be a problem going forward. Do I bring my own already mixed? For mains we got their Chong Qing chicken. We usually ask for this extra spicy, but we decided to get it as is and see how spicy they normally make it. Will definitely have to ask for it to be way spicier next time. However, the taste was quite good in my opinion. One of my cohorts felt it was sweet, but the rest of us didn't notice or at least mind any sweetness. We also got the Farmer's Pork, which was excellent. Now, this popular dish is made with pork belly, so most places will have meat full of fat, which some Asian people like but I do not. This place had cleaned all their pork belly so it was incredibly lean, and I was there for it. Absolutely appreciated this, as I want to eat meat, not fat. I strongly recommend both of these entrees. I look forward to going back again to try more dishes, but I'm gonna need a solution to the potsticker dipping sauce problem. I hope the sweetness wasn't in the potstickers themselves. That would be bizarre. Anyway, I do recommend trying this place. Also notice some other reviewer went off on the XLB not saying they have peanuts in them. The menu specifically states (unless it was reprinted in the last two months) the XLB have peanuts in them. Give this place a shot. SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD - Hidden allergens and terrible service I am writing this to warn others about a serious safety issue at this restaurant. We ordered the Xiao Long Bao, they contained peanut butter, which was NOT disclosed on the menu or by the staff. My son has a peanut allergy and experienced a severe reaction--his mouth swelled up, his throat became itchy, and he developed a painful rash. This is completely unacceptable and dangerous. To make matters worse, the overall experience was a disaster. The service was incredibly slow, and they completely missed several dishes we ordered. When the "famous" Boiled Fish finally arrived, it was utterly bland and had no flavor at all. I am extremely disappointed and concerned about this establishment's lack of transparency regarding allergens. If you have food allergies, please be extremely careful or avoid this place entirely. We will be taking this matter very seriously. read more

For some reason I didn't notice this place has been around for nearly a year until this weekend. Went in around 3pm and it was empty. The place was super clean, simply decorated, and the staff was friendly. We got the avocado with pepper sauce that was soo good, the spare ribs in flour which was also good, lots of meat, the shredded chicken with cold noodles, the chicken wasn't enough and the noodles were way too long, but the flavor was amazing! Was invited here by 2 mandarin speakers and thank God I was. This an authentic chinese quinine establishment that lived up to that . The menu had many items I had never seen before and they were saying they were normal chinese food items. I was not disappointed in taking their word for what I was eating. It was all very delicious. This eatery is located in a strip mall in Arcadia where it moved because they were too popular for the previous location. The waitresses were extremely sweet and helpful understanding that I did not know the language. I appreciate that tremendously! So, would I return, yes! With my mandarin speaking friends. Best Szechuan restaurant in the area. This has been one of my favorite places since high school, back when they were still inside H Mart, and I'm so happy they now have their own restaurant. Their cabbage is my absolute favorite and a must-try. The food is always flavorful and comforting, the environment is clean and welcoming, and the waitress is always kind and attentive. Fast service and recommend stir-fried pork with Szechuan pickle, with chili oil poached fish the most. Also avocado with pepper sauce is a must, one of the best authentic Chinese sauce flavors and a combination rarely found anywhere else. Our friends introduced us to this amazing restaurant. We loved the food so much that we came back with mom. We started with the cold noodle and spicy chicken with bamboo. The mild numbing spicy sauce was perfect. Next dish was the braised pork, it really melted in my mouth. The vegetables dishes were also delicious. The highlight, however, was the beef short ribs. After finishing our shopping, we decided to give it a try. The interior hasn't changed a bit--same as before. Service was pretty slow, though the staff was friendly enough. We ordered three dishes: spicy chicken, garlic eggplant, and Dan Dan noodles. Fair warning--they're all very very spicy! If you're a spicy lover, this place is paradise. The flavors were bold and felt authentic, packed with that signature Szechuan kick. Their menu also features classics like fish filet in spicy oil, honey duck, Kung Pao chicken, cold cuts, and more. It's been a while since my mother-in-law complimented a restaurant. I can't tell you how relieved I was when she actually liked the restaurant that we brought her to. There were murmurs of "Oh! It's not too expensive!" "The ingredients are fresh!" "The portion is generous!" Etcetc The name of this restaurant is 天府小館. The title Szechuan Restaurant is too generic for this place. If the name is familiar, it is because the business was first in a supermarket food court prior to expanding to this location. This restaurant is spacious and clean. There are bigger tables, which is ideal if your goal is to sample a variety from their menu. The dishes we tried were bright in flavor, spicy, savory. Sure, they can accommodate you if you want lesser spice. But sometimes the dish calls for a pleasantly tongue numbing peppercorn, and this restaurant makes each dish well balanced. We completely finished the dishes 'water cooked fish' 水煮魚 and spicy chicken 辣子雞. . No leftovers, save for the broth from the fish that mother-in-law saved for the next day to add more fish and bean sprouts. read more

Server brought us three menus all in Chinese (honestly wish there was an English copy as well). Ordered 6 different items off their menu. We noticed this spot right next to it and decided to give it a shot, even though they were about to close. Glad we did, because it turned out to be so much better than what we expected.
