Today my daughter and I stopped by Dumpling House for a late lunch/early dinner. She chose the restaurant and was excited because I'd been there once before after a friend introduced me to it. I told her, "Good choice. The menu is really good." We ordered the Juicy Pork Dumplings, House Special Beef Noodle Soup, Steamed Rice, Green Onion Pancakes, and Beef Broccoli. The food was good, and we enjoyed everything we ordered. Unfortunately, our experience wasn't what I expected. When we walked in, no one greeted us. I noticed because other customers who came in after us were welcomed. I told myself I was probably overthinking it and let it go. When we were finally seated, two of the ladies working there never smiled during any of our interactions. It may seem like a small thing, but it made my daughter and me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. A friendly greeting and a smile can make such a difference. Hospitality isn't just about serving food--it's about making people feel welcome. Then, while eating, I found something on my plate that clearly should not have been there. Rather than make a scene in front of other customers, I quietly walked to the back and showed one of the hostesses. I simply asked if I could have a new plate because I had almost stopped eating after finding it. Instead of saying, "I'm so sorry," she smiled, smirked, and asked, "Did you put it there?" I was honestly shocked. I replied, "If I put it there, why would I embarrass myself by bringing it to your attention?" Whether someone believes a customer or not, the first response should be kindness and concern. A simple, "I'm so sorry. Let me take care of that for you," would have completely changed the situation. By that point, I honestly wanted to leave. The one bright spot during our visit was DANNY. He was the only employee who smiled and treated us with genuine kindness. He made us feel welcome when no one else did. THANK YOU DANNY for treating my daughter and me with respect and making us feel welcome. The food was good and could have been part of a wonderful dining experience. Unfortunately, the service didn't match the quality of the food. The atmosphere felt cold and unwelcoming that day, and that took away from what should have been an enjoyable meal. I'm not sure if I'll return. If I do, it will be because of the food--and because I hope Danny is working that day. I also hope management sees this as constructive feedback, because a little kindness and genuine hospitality can turn first-time customers into lifelong ones. read more

Was craving dumplings during the cold weather and decided to give a local place a try! I came here on a Thursday night at around 6:30pm. I had called 20 minutes before and let them know what I wanted to order via dish name. Parking is available in the back lot but there's very limited spots available due to other businesses being really busy. The store is pretty small since they try putting as many tables as they can. When you walk in, you have to squeeze past the tables to walk to the counter to pick up your order. It felt really awkward since I had to walk in between two tables while they were eating. When I talked to the server, I asked her if she accepted Apple Pay and she said yes. I tapped my AMEX card and it went through but made a weird sound as if it denied. I asked her if she accepted AMEX afterwards and she said no but it already went through. Not sure what that meant... I signed my receipt, grabbed my food, said thank you and nothing back. Food: I got take-out so the food might vary compared to dining in. My family and I did try and eat it as fast as we could. It took 10 minutes to drive home and another 10 to actually eat the food. We ordered the home style chow mein, beef roll pancake, hand made pancake, and pan fried pork dumplings. Home style chow mein (7/10): When we opened the box, the steam was still pouring through. I thought that this one was decent. We did order this one to be cooked with less oil so it might've dried the noodles a little more when it was being cooked. There were lots of different veggies in this dish. I think the protein in here was pork, I'm not too sure. I thought that there was good amount of flavor! Beef Roll Pancake (7/10) : I love beef roll pancakes and will order one if a restaurant offers it. However, this one sort of fell flat for me. There was hardly any beef rolled into the pancake. It comes with 2 big rolls that are cut into 3 so in total you get 6 rolls. The skin was chewy and the sweetness from the hoisin sauce came through with each bite. Some people steer clear of this because of the cilantro but the flavor didn't really overpower the dish. Pan Fried Pork Dumplings (7/10): Of course you need to get dumplings at a dumpling house. I thought that this dish was a tad bit too oily. The dumpling skin was soft and the filling was packed. I do wish that the "pan fried" part was a little more crunchy but it could be soggy because I got to-go and couldn't eat it right away. It comes with 8 pieces which was plenty since we got other dishes. Hand made pancake (6/10): This one is so unique! If you can imagine it, it's like a circle with swirls and the swirls are pulled apart from each other. This dish is so easy to share with other people since you can just rip it apart in strands. Food is good here, solid! I prefer it than din tai fung- prices make more sense, more taste and authentic. Plus can't go wrong with those free pancakes that are made fresh to table. Good service, especially for Chinese resto (hehe), can get a lot more bang for your buck. TVs are a bit distracting but most restaurants have TVs so there's not really a them issue but a me issue. This is my favorite dumpling spot, so much so that I drove an hour and half to eat here. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but my favorite items are the hot and spicy fried rice and lamb dumplings. Their restroom is oddly placed in the back of the restaurant. You have to walk outside and around to get to it. Their dumpling skin is on the thicker side so if you like thin skin, this is not it. ESP their potsticker, the skin was so thick!! But I will say that the dipping sauce was pretty darn good. The flavored stewed beef noodle soup was spicy and oily. I could've totally went without this and the beef roll pancake. $13 for beef roll pancake which was bland and cold like it just came out the fridge??? That's a big no no!! AND the whole thing just falls apart as you pick it up to eat. Also, these items had thumbs up right next to it on the menu. They should take those down until they adjust the taste first. Service was okay but the food was just bad or maybe a bad night. Pan fried dumpling, mushy and the bottom was not even crispy. The skin was mush. All the meat fell out if tried to pick it up. The Singapore fried noodles just a mess of turmeric covered noodles. Could not taste anything else. All greasey and oily. The pan fried pork buns, same thing the bun were all mushy and wet. The bottom of the buns no toasty crispy skin. A wet ball of dough with meat in it. The spicy wonton, where not very spicy but it seems like they added sugar to it cause it was sweet. Lamb dumplings The only place that has lamb dumplings and they are AMAZING!! our fav! 2. Small interior, so when busy you have to wait by the railing entrance area. But we came before the dinner rush hour on a Friday and got seated immediately. Their restroom was dirty (located behind the restaurant by walking outside and heading to the first door on the left corner), so minus 1 star because of that. I think it's the closest thing I've found that compares to din tai fungs (the only thing that I think is worth it there!). Pork and crab xiao long baos didn't have much flavor. Dumpling House seems like a staple here in Arcadia. I love dumplings, so I was happy to try it out. Parking is plenty in the back. Oddly, the bathroom is also accessed from the back parking lot. This means you need to leave your seat and go out the front door if you need to use the restroom during your meal. There is an order form that you check off boxes, so there are no photos of the food. Service is mid. They act like they are really busy and don't pay much attention to you. This is typical of a Chinese restaurant tbh. Dumplings were great. I got the shrimp pork & chives boiled and fish pan-fried. They were both really great. They came with a small saucer of sauce that was vinegary. The beef noodle soup (clear) was good.
